I just joined Mason's Gym in Pekin this week and LOVE it! It's only $100 for 6 months and $180 for a year. They do have a few stationary bikes for warming up and cooling down, but that is about the limit of their cardio equipment. It is strictly a weight training facility. Hey, that's what bicycles and running shoes are for, right?

Following these two simple instructions will guarantee success:

1. Take a baby step forward.

Me and my boyfriend are members at Cardinal Fitness here in Peoria. It's only $20 a month - no long term commitments - and I believe they have a sign up special right now! You should check it out - they give you a tour of the place and let you work out the first day to see if you like it.

Hey everyone! I actually work at EastSide Centre and we have a promotion going on for the months of March and April - it's our "Stimulus Package" promotion!

For March and April we are going back to our old rates that we offered in July of 2005 and prior. This is for new members only, but the rates are incredible! It includes two levels of cardio and weight equipment, indoor and outdoor track, 3 indoor basketball courts, babysitting (up to age 12), and aerobics classes.

All memberships will have $25.00 processing fee and you can pay either by month (automatic deduction on the 1st or 15th of the month; it has to be the 15th of the month if you use a debit or credit card)or pay in full for the year. Either way you are signing a one-year contract.

Rather than listing all the prices out I want to include a link that will allow you to check out the prices and even view our website to see class schedules and such. (Note: the promotional rates are not listed online right now; please call the EastSide Front Desk at 698-5437 and dial zero for the operator (the front desk staff)).

Hope to see you come and try us out! If you are interested in a guest pass and haven't tried us out before, then go ahead and e-mail me by April 1st with your name and address and I'll put one in the mail for you! My e-mail is ahuett85@hotmail.com.

HINMIGHTY, contact the area's fitness centers. See if they have any student discounts. I believe many, if not all, do.

I go to the Riverplex. The only negative is their prices. Otherwise, they have everything that one could need for fitness. Very clean, and the staff is very approachable.

I go to Eastside....if you are a college student, it is cheap! Only like $20-$30 a month...there isn't a pool for exercise use, but lots of classes, and they are free. I love it. Lots of machines and resources. I remember that for a college student EP resident, it was $16/mo. You can also choose a 6-mo contract for college students.

Hi guys!!

I am a member of Cardinal Fitness (near Sheridan Village - right across the street from Little Cesar's/where The Bell used to be)

I only pay 20 bucks a month. It is a great place for me since I live a half mile away. The have day care available as well.(extra cost) If you are just looking for workout equipment (no classes, pool or extra amenities) this is a great place.

I try to workout with a buddy everyday during the weekday at 1:00p.m. You are welcome to join us! We end up working out twice as long since we talk so much we don't realise we just did the elliptical for 30min. So we then go 30 min on the treadmill. We then do some weight training...

I have found it is so much better with a buddy...if your interested I can get you more information. Just let me know!

My husband and I are members at World Gym, on North University, across from Steak and Shake and Dynasty. We really like it! It´s $45 per month for the two of us, a one year contract, and it comes out of our account automatically. The $45 includes unlimited everything, even classes! There are tan/gym packages too.

What college do you go to? Your college may have facilities for working out. You could also check the park district. Several of their facilities have work out equipment. I always work out at home, so I don't really know about prices. Perhaps someone else will know.

Hi,I am looking at finding somewhere to work out in Peoria that isn't expensive! My boyfriend and I are poor college students and would like a place that doesn't have an overly pricy couples membership but is still a decent place to work out. Any suggestions would be great! Thanks!

I've added some Fitness Resources to SparkPeoria. I don't use Fitness Centers, but I noticed this thread and posted the ones mentioned.

I have been a member at Landmark for the last 10 or so years. I never really went until a couple of years ago. Then I was only going off and on. I have been trying to get back into the swing of things now. I enrolled my son in the swim classes. My kids like going there too. The nursery and kids rooms are great. In fact, I have used a couple of the kid's room workers as babysitters when I needed one for home. The facilities are great and so are the trainers.

If you are looking into it, call and ask for Jan. If you have questions about some of the fitness classes, Kristie is the best person to talk to. On of the best trainers for help is Chad Smith. I hope this helps.

If any of you would like to meet up and workout together, let me know. I'll meet you there.

Gina

Cinnamon and Dark,
Thanks for the advice. I have been to Gold's gym with a friend (via a free one week pass) and it was nice, I just don't know if I could afford it. I have thought about Cardinal Fitness, but living in Princeville, it seems like someplace right off the interstate or right near where I would normally shop would lead to me going more.
I have thought about doing the weekend only membership at Landmark, as it's pretty inexpensive and there are a few classes that, as Dark said, members can take for free. I like classes, in that it seems like more of a commitment (at least to myself) to go at a certain time and day...
I am hoping the newspaper will have some good deals this next weekend, trying to lure in all the new year's resolution people!

I loved, loved RiverPlex, but if you're only going to use it a few times a month, the fee isn't worth it.

We're currently at Gold's (near the new mall) and I like it okay; for what it is it's great but deep down I miss RP. :)

If you're looking for inexpensive and clean, DH and I were members at Cardinal Fitness for probably a year and a half. Very clean, they have machines, free weights and cardio. No classes. I don't know if I've ever been there when they've NOT been cleaning the place somehow. It's kind of in the middle of town - by Lake & Sheridan - so I don't know how convenient they are but they price is very nice.

GL! :)

Hi, I am a member at Landmark and I know that you can customize you payments and plan according to how much you will actually use the facility. You should go in and talk to the person in charge of membership. They also offer a few (it use to be more) free classes to members throughout the week. Right now, they have a 3 week session where all classes are free to members. The new sessions begin Jan. 12. Hope this helps.

Hi,
Is anyone a member of a Fitness club in the area?
If so, what do you like about the facility you use?

I have been going to Landmark recently; I don't have a membership, but they have been printing coupons for a free day pretty frequently in the newspaper.

I'm looking for an inexpensive option because I live in Princeville and would likely only go about 4-6 times a month. (Sundays and anytime I run into town during the week.)
Thanks,
Jennifer
