Extreme, but not unrealistic expectations. With our payroll and our line up, getting to the WS isn't enough anymore. We won't be able to keep everyone forever and we've pretty much cashed out most of our minor league system with the exception of a player or two. If we don't win it this year or next, we will have trouble getting there in the next few years to come.
Wow, those are extreme expectations, WS win or bust. Not very realistic, IMO, sounds like the Yankees. I remember too many lean years, I was a fan during those too.
I just like to enjoy the game. I was ecstatic that they were even in the WS, and somebody has to lose. That loss took nothing away from the Tigers season for me, I even got to attend my first playoff game at Comerica.
As good as our team is- we should really be able to win the WS at some point. I have to admit, I wasn't real pleased with them bringing him back, but we do need a closer. I hope he has a good year, not an up and down year- or a year that is decent until the playoffs, then a disaster. We don't seem to have much in development, so as far as I'm concerned, if we don't win it this year, both DD and JL should be gone. At least there is an improvement on the third base coach this year!
I think I might be the only Tigers fan who actually liked Jose Valverde. So he had an off year, he was great before that. I am really glad he is back in Detroit and (hopefully, should they need a closer) going to play tonight.
I also LIKE Jim Leyland. No, I'm not one of those guys that thinks they have to win the World Series every year to have had a successful year. I am a guy who watches all the games, and I like to see 2/3 wins instead of 1/3 (pre-Leyland). A playoff appearance is nice, a World Series appearance is awesome too. I have seen the Tigers in the W.S. since Leyland and I was 10 when that happened before...
