How many aerobic (cardio) exercise sessions should you aim for each week?

When it comes to cardio, aim for a minimum of 3 days per week with no more than 2 days between sessions. Gradually work your way up to 5 or 6 days per week. Frequency is especially important when it comes to weight loss. The more you exercise, the more calories you will burn. But don't forget the importance of rest and recovery. Sneaking In A Few Extras



When I am waiting to heat something in the microwave or waiting for a printout at work, I will get in a set or two of simple strength exercises: wall push ups, squats, lunges, etc

Exercise While Watching Your Favorite Show emoticon


It was one of those days when I wasn't really feeling like working out, but I was feeling guilty for not. I was laying on the couch watching a movie when it hit me, my laptop was right there, so I brought a workout up on the computer (youtube), muted and did my workout while watching the movie.

MORE INFORMATION:
It worked out great, not only did I get to watch the rest of the movie, the workout flew by and I no longer felt guilty about not doing one for the day.

I have several little items that come in handy during commercials, or even during slow parts of a show...Thighmaster, jog trampoline, free weights, stability ball, WALL and FLOOR. Working in a bit of strength training isn't too hard!

Plan To Go Everyday


My daughter told me to plan to workout everyday not just 3 or 4 days a week. if it is a part of your DAILY routine it is easier to stick to it than if you go 3 or 4 days. now i go 6 days a week and if I miss a day once in a great while..no biggie!!

It's The Little Steps That Count



Even if I can't work out, well especially if it's a day I think I might not get to work out, I always try to add as many steps as possible to my day. I do not use a pedometer, but I follow these few simple things to add to my day, I park as far from the door as possible, I walk up every isle emoticon

MORE INFORMATION:
I always return my cart, every time I have to take steps i walk up and down at least one extra time, I vacuum each room twice, when bringing in groceries I only bring in one bag at a time, I water my plants with a quart jar (it takes me about 60) you'd be surprised how much these can add up emoticon

The way I keep myself exercising every night is I download a audio book onto my mp3 player and listen to the story. I get so involved in the story that I want to exercise and forget how long I have been exercising. In order to find out what happens next in the book I have to go and exercise.

Everything Counts!



Everything counts! That's a good secret. Not only every bite of food counts, but every single activity counts too! Stand when your hopping on the computer to track your food or check your e-mail. Walk in place while cooking dinner. Always take the stairs! Waiting in line? Calf-raises. In an elevator by yourself? Squats. Kids sleeping? Walk in place. Your hungry? Don't "test" the food that your cooking! Drink some water while you wait! Everything counts. Every single little thing we do COUNTS!

Make a plan of what you are going to do at a minimum AND stick to it!! Don't be afraid to challenge yourself with your goal for the day. When you do what you set out to do, you'll feel great about yourself and gain motivation to keep going!

emoticon If you are just starting out, it is OK to "Just" walk around the Block or "Just" to the end of the Driveway. It is OK to park "Just" a Little further from the Door when you go Shopping. You don't have to run a Marathon to Exercise, you just have to start where you are standing and do SOMETHING.

emoticon Even though by the end of the day, I sometimes think that I am too tired to get on the Bike, I always remember that after about 30 minutes I don't want to get Off Of It, LOL! One thing that definitely helps is watching TV on DVD while I do it. It portions my time, and sometimes I want to see the next episode so much that I just keep going!

To keep from getting Bored or Burned Out with your Exercise Routine, change it often. If you Walk or Bike to Work, change your Route often. Try an Exercise Class or a Sport that is new to you. Don't let the Fear of Stepping out of your Comfort Zone keep you from trying New Activities.

If you can't get in your 3 Mile Run, take a Shorter Run and Stretch. Or, if you can't get to the Gym, go for a Walk or do a Spark Exercise Video.

It can be your Balance Ball, Resistance Bands, Free Weights, Hula Hoop, or even just Marching In Place!! Just keep moving throughout the Commercial Break!

Question: Is it true that lifting weights causes women to bulk up?

Expert Answer: While on a weight lifting program, the right hormones (testosterone) are necessary in order to bulk up. Women's testosterone levels are much lower than men's, so in most cases, they are not capable of building large muscles. In fact, since muscle takes up less room than fat, women tend to lose inches when they strength train. So in addition to the physical benefits (increased metabolism, decreased risk of osteoporosis, increased strength), strength training will help you slim down too! Women, in fact, are more likely to tone up from strength training rather than bulk up. Research shows that women can add up to 30% lean muscle and end up looking thinner, feeling stronger and being firmer.
