I find SP meets my needs and more! It would take quite a bit for me to change!

The site still needs a lot of work. My understanding is that the main reason they made it was for women on the six week challenge could use it to enter their food online and not just in the book. That is why you cant really change your calorie goals and stuff, it is planned for you based on the Curves diet. However, I do agree that it costs too much.

I had a voucher for Curves Complete, so decided to give it a look. I too was very disappointed. I have been a member of weight watchers online and their site is a good site for the price. I wanted to get back to basics so that is why sparkpeople works better for me. Curves complete on the other hand is lacking in so many ways. The site is horrid. They wouldn't let me enter my voucher but I have been in contact with them through the email and will follow through with canceling on Wednesday.

It was a waste of time.

Just my two cents worth.

I understand and even agree ... with both of you.

I totally understand the constant endorsement irritation. Once in awhile I mention a product to a member. Usually not so much though. Especially not with clothes, socks, towels etc. If someone asks how to get a shirt hanging on the wall, I'll tell them. If they mention a symptom and seem like they are LOOKING for help, then I may mention our supplement ... but even then I always ask first IF they're taking ANYTHING at the moment. I'll tell them what's worked for me and what I like about our supplements, BUT my bottom line is to try something rather than nothing.

Ok, enough with my ranting. I'm trying to watch TV and the dog and type this all at the same time. I apologize profusely on behalf of all the great coaches for all the crappy pushy coaches. :D

gotta let the dog out.

I understand what you are saying, Mousemarie. We all have different references.

If I am going to buy a supplement, I will buy it at Sam's or Costco because I can get three times the quantity for half the price. Most of the people I know, and probably most of the people at our club, have memberships to one or both. I know the single ladies usually don't, but we are in a family-oriented area.

The Curves membership itself isn't so bad, but I really go because Curves is down the street from my house. I have a "lifetime" membership to 24 Hour Fitness for $50 a year but it takes too long for me to get there since we moved.

The Curves Complete, and perhaps Weight Watchers Online, I see those as perhaps for the person who isn't as internet savvy. Really, I don't know anyone who pays for any internet sites anymore (although I will donate to useful sites from time to time).

What irks me is when every conversation turns to buying a product. Example: with the new Curves Smart, we workout harder. So I say in passing, "I need to bring a towel next time". The response: "We sell towels over there!" "I am having hot flashes", The response: "We sell a supplement for that!"

I understand that Curves is a business, and the owner needs to make money, but I would like to have a conversation without a product endorsement from time to time.

The only reason I feel that Curves is a little pricey is because they don't offer the same "extras" as other gyms. I.e., no showers, no daycare, etc.

I like the workout, but I would really love to be able to jump in the shower and run to work. That is all I am saying.

First and foremost, let me say that I think Curves and all their products and services are "competetively priced." Meaning that they are reasonably within range of their nearest competitors. I, personally, don't think the membership is overpriced in any way as it is at least $10 less than anything else in my city ... and most of the other options have ZERO atmosphere.

Second, Curves Complete was designed to compete with Online Weight Watchers. I can almost guarantee that your staff had no idea the website was coming and was therefore uninterested in Spark. I knew nothing about it until the middle of November. Online Weight Watchers has a fee. To many this signifies a seriousness and determination that signing up on a free site doesn't require.

However, all being said, I am still ABSOLUTELY AND UNEQUIVOCALLY a Spark Girl emoticon who uses Curves for the workout.

WHy pay $5 a week - almost $20 a month, when SP is free???

Ridiculous! I love working out at Curves but my support ends there, no products, nada. They are a little pricey to begin with, I think.

I haven't been checking in like I should on SparkPeople, but I do go to Curves (for the most part) like clockwork. I thought I would stop in here to see what the thoughts were on the Curves Complete site.

I have gone into my club and mentioned SparkPeople several times. Some of the older ladies at the club are just not that computer literate. The management/employees were completely disinterested in SparkPeople. Perhaps they knew that Curves Complete was coming out and they didn't want to hear about SparkPeople.

Someone said above, Curves is about the money, and I have to agree. That doesn't mean I won't go three times a week but I am not going to shell out more money for their merchandise and programs.

I was told that you can get a slip of paper at your club that has a promo code on it, which you use for your free WEEK of Curves Complete. Then it is $15 per month to keep using the site.

So very true. I had to laugh I had a free week, so I can still go on until next week sometime. There were a lot of people complaining about the cost, expecially since you have to pay to be a member... It sounds like a lot of people on the site were very disappointed, at least from what I was reading in the message boards.

Jen, do you set up your own goals or anything ... somewhere secondary that you can tell ityou're breastfeeding and therefore would get more calories?

I just had to check this website out since my club just got the free week coupons. It sucks! You don't get 1/2 as much as you get here, they don't allow you to change calories, for people like me who are breastfeding and get more calories in a day. I was very disappointed expecially since you have to pay for it.

My owner already know not to suggest Curves Complete to me. I am a very proud sparker and talk about the challenges all the time. I also talk about the online support I get from other spark members. She do not really promote SP but she lets blab all I want. She is big on freedom of choice.

Mouse, thats funny. I love it!

So far this year I have bought a Curves membership, Kickboxing lessons, yoga DVD.

I have Fit TV Channel and have done some of their shows.

I have bought a wobble board, mini trampoline, the big ball, a set of hand weights with handles on them and you can unscrew the ends and change the weight, a kit that had stretchy bands, and I am getting ready to buy a 45 lbs weighted hula hoop.

Of course, I've lost all that weight for a reason. My poor husband though is like cringing every time I buy something else thinking, "So how long will you use it before it gets stored away".

Normally, he'd be correct. But I am on it!

Also, I have bought two food scales, changed all of the food in the house for almost a year now, and I've been doing online biggest loser type competitions for the past year now too so I am on a team that is active and we are all encouraging one another.

Hey, dropping 40 lbs this fast and keeping it off is not easy. Me thinks if I do gain any of it back, it should take a while since my health is of concern so that has been a lot of motivation.

Maybe the Curves Complete will have teams on them? If anyone does join Curves Complete, they should look in to setting up teams that compete with one another.

BARKSHIREWOODS - I gotta add. There is absolute truth in the "if I pay for it then I hafta" kind of mentality ... to make it comical, I knew a girl once who called this her "Fat Tax." When she signed up for something with the intention of using it to lose weight and then never did anything with it but kept paying for it ... that's the fat tax. The way she said it was always SOOO FUNNY!!

yep, just got the brochures at our place. if i didn't know about sparkpeople, i'd probably join. but it looks exactly like sparkpeople, so why join just to pay for something that i get for free?

besides that, i'd have to re-enter all my info! i'm already comfortably set up here!

My Curves owner gave me one of the vouchers for the Curves Complete free trial, and asked me to check it out and compare it to SP, because I am the techiest member they have. Well I just went to sign up for the free trial and I found out it's $15 per month!!! On top of that to get your free week you have to put in all your credit card info and if you forget to cancel your credit card gets charged automatically every month. Well I'm not signing up for that - maybe I would try it if I could think of anything it might have that SP doesn't but I can't. The Curves Complete is produced by Rodale - the publishers of Prevention Magazine, which I find VERY commercial. I am so glad I found SP first, otherwise I'm sure I'd be signing up and paying.

The trainers and I at my Curves have recommended SP to a lot of our members, and few have started using it. The members it doesn't work for are the ones who only have dial up Internet access, and in my very rural area that's most people.

One thing I love about my Curves is the tons of support and nice women that are just happy for each other when someone looses weight. I dont think I've ever heard of anyone being jealous!!

It's never too late to become what you have always wanted to be.

Some of the women at my Curves have watched me drop 40 lbs and are jealous.

I am like, "online weight loss site that is free, proper diet, and exercise" and they never put effort forth.

So this comes to mind that sometimes if you shell out cash, there is a chance that you might be more likely to do it. Guess it depends on the personality though. As we all hear of folks joining the gym and never going after the first month.

I have suggested it too. I have to laugh because why would you pay for something you can do for free. This is a great supportive site, with tons of different people doing different things. I just have to laugh!

I work for a Curves in WI and we will be upgrading ot the Curves Smart next week and my owner is WAY on top of what's going on. Curvescomplete.com is almost exactly like Spark, but it IS a pay site. I thought I heard $11 a month or something, BUT STILL!! I'm gonna have to watch myself at the club now because I have suggested spark to a number of people primarily because it's free.

There is a voucher, but i thought i heard 11 or 45 days. I took a voucher to check it out so I know what i'm talking about when the ladies ask ... but I am going to have a VERY hard time promoting that when I am so active here on spark and, I feel, I get so much more here than I would there. Who knows. I'll have to decide when I get there.

P.S. call me Mouse, that's what all my friends call me!! Marie is my middle name.

I saw this at my curves last week. I can't believe that they only offer a voture to try it out for a week. From what I was seeing they don't offer discounts for members. I like sparkpeople so much so I am not too worried about it now

I did an internet search on it and found out that it will cost $5 per week. I saw a discussion about this on a Curves discussion board. Someone in the forum brought up sparkpeople and told them to check it out.

Why pay for something that is the same as what you can get here for free? Curves already gets $34/month from me and I'm not willing to shell out another $20 on top of that!

It just sounded to me like something similar to this site - weight/measurement and food tracking. Message boards. I would not be willing to shell out extra cash to use it, though.

The flyers arrived today. My owner seems to know nothing. I hope they will find something out soon. I know you can sign up for a week trial. Though it says something about asking Curves Staff for a voucher. So I don't know. I don't want to sign up and find out as a member we have a good deal. I just think though it would be wrong if we have to pay to go to Curves and use there site. I would assume we get some kind of deal or at least I think we should.
