I have two big obstacles: 1) I love food and 2) I don't always get my exercise in. I'm hoping by joining this group that it will motivate me to work on controlling both.

Laziness. I can be honest with myself....I would rather get lost in a book or watch t.v. horizontal than work out. But I like the way I feel when I exercise. Once I get started, it takes injury to stop me so I just need to start again. Tomorrow I'll be hitting the gym for the first time in a year and praying my feet hold up.

Being on the go, not being able to eat at home. I am good Mon-Fri where I pack lunch to work and cook dinner. Sat-Sun when we are traveling from here to there and gone from the house for 8 hours is horrible!! Getting better at choosing the right things and only eating 3/4 of the serving but still hard on my calories and my fitness.

I'm in such a rut right now. The only reason I lost 4 pounds 2 weeks ago was because of starving. I didn't want to weigh myself last week for fear of how much I gained. I can't seem to get rid of this cycle...

I want to start off by saying I feel fantastic after losing tons of weight and making healthy food choices. My body doesn't seem to get the idea that I will not grow up and my mind will not get beyond that of an intelligent 30 year old. I am 71 and do not feel it.
Okay, so you are wondering what the problem is... I always want to keep up with the younger and fit gym goers. I just started this lifestyle shift less than a year ago. It will take time for all these changes to become a lifetime way of life. In the meantime I will slow down and go gently thru the process.

It seems like binge eating and emotional eating are big. I must admit I have suffered this week too. Today is Thursday and it's been gray and raining since last Friday, definitely an emotional downer - doesn't it seem like when the skies are gray - everything else just seems to be so gloomy.
I've been doing a lot of inspirational reading - searching on #inspiration on Twitter for short inspirational bites (no pun intended).
I keep saying that I refuse to fall victim!
What do you all try to do when you hit that emotional wall? Any best practices out there?

FABULISINMN- I prefer strength training over cardio also. That's why I'm focusing more on inches/body fat % this time. I have no idea how much I weigh (I guesstimated when I signed up for SP) and am not concerned about pounds lost. I'm doing everything I can to make sure I don't discourage myself!

ANAJCM--i agree with you completely! It's so hard to stay motivated when you go to the gym EVERY day and work your butt off and nothing comes of it!
My truth: when I work out, I don't lose weight. I'm serious. The scale doesn't move. Why? Because I prefer weights over cardio.
Truth: I'm building muscle at the same time as burning fat, so the scale doesn't move per say. But I also notice my clothes are looser and I feel better.
It didn't come on over night and it isn't going to come off over night.
I know you can do it! Hang in there. You may not see the benefits right away, but you'll see it. Keep it up and you'll see it!
Fab.

Lack of motivation and impatience have always been my biggest obstacles. If after a week of watching everything I eat and working out consistently, I don't lose any weight, I start to think all my hard work is pointless. If I didn't lose any weight after going to the gym for 7 days, I can skip today right? And since I skipped yesterday and nothing has changed, I can skip again with the same results.
That's why I'm staying away from the scale as much as possible this time!!

Dragonfly126,
I know that must be hard. When I was married, it was so hard - he loved to eat out. He kept saying he liked me the way I was - even if I wasn't happy with myself... He of course could drop weight just by drinking water for a day it seemed like.
Hopefully your hubby will eventually understand - I know that would be a difficult thing to argue over...

My biggest obstacle is my hubby. i know he means well. Does not want me to want for anything. Problem is he is a late nite snacker and is always trying to get me to eat something. I tell him over, and over when I say No, Thank you I mean NO THANK You! I do not want to argue about it, but sometimes we do and it just makes me feel so over whelmed.

Hi everyone, I am back after taking a few weeks off. I sensed I was obsessing too much about my weight. Guess what, I am not ready to go solo yet. I see my self as my obstacle. I realized i still need to use the tools, food tracking, measuring, & portion control, that helped me loose some of the weight.

My biggest obstacle is night time snacking. I'm EXHAUSTED when I get home from work and I do sooo little. It's a really hard thing to carry around this extra weight and when I get home I'm just depleted. I set small goals for myself, but usually by 7, I'm in front of the t.v. eating. Lots of times, I do make better choices, or just not eat at all, but teh times that I do I go way overboard.

My biggest obstacle is eating right! I love working out, but I know that's a small part of the weight loss journey! So far this week, I have been eating within my calorie range! However, I have to make sure I track everything I eat as well as being completely honest with myself! I want to continue to lose weight in addition to eating as clean as possible!

JENAE954: have you considered just starting slow? what about a quick walk around the block? I've found that on days I'm not motivated to exercise, I force myself to change into shorts and a T-shirt and put tennis shoes on. Then I say I'll walk around the block. Often times, I turn this walk into a much longer adventure/power walk around downtown and other areas of the city I don't spend a lot of time in - and walking is very good for you.
Also, have you considered just stretching while watching TV? I've found that if I start stretching, I start doing other strength training things and turn my TV-watching into a light workout... which is better than nothing at all, in my opinion :)
Do you have any ideas for portion control/how to remind myself to make better choices with regards to my diet?

Exercise motivation continues to be a problem. Just can't seem to get in a routine. Any suggestions???
