Good morning friends! I'm a bit down right now and I just can't get out of this funk. It's not good because it makes me want to eat bad! I need to find a way to get out of this rut soon!! Work stresses me out, stress stresses me out and then I eat and don't workout and that stresses me out! This is obviously why I am not losing weight but it's making this rut really hard to get out of.

Just a quick hello from me this evening. I am doing awesome even though the scale at this morning's weigh in showed a 0.2 pound gain. I don't believe it. Yesterday was amazing. I started off with Qigong. Then I decided I would do my Hatha yoga class at 12:30 since I hadn't done it for a while but I didn't want to miss out on my Kundalini yoga either so I ended up with nearly 4 hours of activity. Then when I got home last night my dog, Marv, had escaped the yard and was missing so I got in quite a few steps looking for him. I could feel it a tad today. Thankfully my neighbor helped me look for Marv and he did find him so the night ended on a good note. I took it easy today only walked Marv and did water aerobics this evening.

FITGIRL - it is okay. Tomorrow you can get right back on track. Don't beat yourself up. I didn't do so well with food the last two days either. pizza and soda after Friday night's football game and today at the barbecue couldn't resist the pie.

Good evening friends! It's been a rather quiet day today. I had my grandson come over and help me move the bed so I could vacuum under that and vacuum the bedroom floor. I also moved a bunch of stuff out of the living room to make it easier for the carpet cleaners who are coming on Tuesday. Then my grandson and I went out for lunch and shopping at Lowe's for stuff for the yard. This afternoon I went to the neighborhood barbecue. I was tempted not to go, but my next door neighbor came and invited me to go with them so I did go. It was actually a fun get together. The man who was hosting it had smoked and grilled a bunch of meat sausage, ribs and chicken. He has a garden and made homemade barbecue sauce and grilled a bunch of veggies. Others also contributed salads, chips, etc. He had blueberries and he conned one neighbor into making blueberry pies and one man made peach cobbler. I visited with a couple of ladies that I already knew and the host also sat at our table and chatted. There were a couple of little girls there and they were very cute.

Hi friends! I have had a pretty good week nutritionally until today. We had a "pizza" party at work and then someone brought ice cream! Then tonight I talked hubby into Mexican. I didn't want it at first and felt really guilty and then I decided "screw it, I'm going to go anyway" I've had a stressful week yet again and yet again food won! UGH! I am so sick of letting stress dictate my life! I did manage to get some type of exercise in Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and yesterday. Today, I did nothing but work for 9 LONG hours! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Good morning friends! Today was weight watchers. I had a loss of 2.2 pounds which brings me back exactly where I was three weeks ago. I am happy with that and feeling good about nutrition right now so am hopefully it will continue to go down. A little cooler this morning so Marv and I just got back from a short walk. Time for a quick lunch then church quilting group, a trip to Costco and finish the day with Aqua Zumba.

Dana - sorry to read about your knee. I think resting it is wise. I hope it will feel up to Jazzercise by Saturday. Way to go on focusing on fitness that doesn't involve your knee.

I've been doing great. Yesterday I started back to strength exercise. I went light and started with one set of 10 reps on each machine. I struggle with strength because I do such a variety of other things that also involve strength that I never can figure out when to do it. Yesterday was aqua zumba in the evening. Today I got up and went to my Qigong class and I had yoga this evening as well as walking Marv a couple of times.

My Mommy suggested that I take the rest of the week off and allow my knee to really get back to normal. I am going to focus on core and upper body. I may be attending a Jazzercise class with a friend of mine on Saturday. So I want to make sure I keep my knee in good working condition for the class Saturday.

How is everyone doing?

I am pretty bummed out about my knee. It was swollen off and on for the past couple of days. Today was the first day that I didn't experience any swelling. So I haven't been doing any of my cardio workouts and it's driving me bonkers!!! I am going to try to go for a little walk tomorrow and see how that works for me. I got a bit cocky and missed my arthritis meds a couple of days and I believe that's what did it for me. Note to self: TAKE YOUR MEDICINE DAILY DANA!!!

Wow, Dana sounds like you have a full weekend. Enjoy! I had a terribly stressful week at work and worked a lot of long hours. I'm afraid that I didn't do well on the challenge last week.

I had 4 bad days of overeating, I"m sorry to say. I bought a Fitbit today and I'm excited to see how this helps me.

I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!

Just popping in to say hello. I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend. I am going to a women's conference that my Mom is having. I am looking forward to fellowshipping with women older than me. Most of them I already know.

I picked up a couple of movies from the library that I reserved. So I will be watching movies this weekend with the boys and my friend. We are going to watch ALL of the Back to the Future Movies, Son of God and About Last Night (the last one is for me and my friend to watch together).

Tomorrow I am picking up my nephew and my boys step brother to spend the night with us. We are going swimming since the pool will be closing. I am wondering if our pool will close the same that everyone else's does seeing how it is the pool of the apartment complex and our apartments are privately owned.

Anyone else have anything going on this weekend?

Thank you Dana.

Today I had an awesome yoga class, so restorative and felt so great afterwards. I had a good time at the football scrimmage even though I got lost trying to find the school. Thankfully I went early so I wasn't too late and my son and daughter in law were able to help me get to the correct school. The town has at least three high schools, North Valley, Hidden Valley and Mid Valley. I had accidently looked up the address for the wrong school. Oops.

My comment on the sleep tracking this week. I am retired and almost never use an alarm clock to get up and I consistently get the same amount of sleep which is right around 8 hours.

@ Dana - thank you for your comments regarding my blog.

I had a great day today even though I was in a lot of pain. I went to Weight Watchers this morning and the scale was not all that nice, as I was up a pound from last week, but I am not giving up. I wasn't scheduled to do yoga today, but my friend said she was subbing for the other teacher so I thought maybe it would help with the pain. It was an awesome class and did help some. After that I spent most of the afternoon being super careful not to make the pain worse. Then I went to my aqua zumba class this evening and swam about 15 minutes before class. After all of the activity I actually felt quite a bit better so we shall see how I feel come morning.

Barbie, I am glad you had a chance to meet up with your friend. That is something I need to make more of an effort to do. I am actually meeting with one of my former co workers this Friday. She had a baby several months ago (her first) and I haven't seen her in person yet. So I am looking forward to warm cuddles and that heavenly baby smell. :0)

Good evening friends. Nice day here again with the sunshine out early. Got in a nice warm walk about noon. Had dinner with an old friend whom I hadn't seen for a while. It was nice to catch up and we plan to get together much more regularly again. We used to see each other almost daily before I met Bill then we both just had other commitments, but her mom passed away not too long ago and now Bill too so we both want to start spending more time together again. I also spent time this afternoon and evening knitting for the crafts for my grandson's fundraiser. This afternoon I had another weight room orientation so now I am all set to start with weights again.

@ FITGIRL - woo hoo on the sleep and way to go staying on track at the Mexican Restaurant. That's a big challenge for me. The popcorn shouldn't be too bad of a binge hopefully. Keep up the good work.

@Barbie - I had an awesome day yesterday! Today was great with activity. I had over 90 minutes of moderate activity. I walked over 8500 steps. Last night I slept 8.5 hours. And yet, despite that I stayed on track today at the Mexican restaurant, I binged on popcorn a bit tonight. I don't really have a good reason but it's over now! emoticon

@ Dana - woo hoo on your workout. So glad you are improving on your jogging.

@FITGIRL - I hope your day was awesome!

I had a beautiful day. I woke up to beautiful sunshine so there's no way it could be too bad. I went for a nice walk about 11 so I didn't take Marv and I was afraid he would burn his feet or get too hot. My yoga class got canceled, but I did a little strength to make up a bit.

Barbara, Thank you for your feedback regarding the weigh in. I am so glad that people are liking that we are only weighing in twice a month. All the best to you with your goals for the week new friend. :0)

Today I went for a 85 minute walk. I did 15 minutes of jogging (3 intervals) and 70 minutes of walking. It was really nice. I am glad that I am up to jogging 5 minutes straight already! You know Thursday was my first time wogging in 2 years so it's pretty awesome in my book to be able to jog for 5 minutes straight already. I am going back later this week.

Good evening friends. I am so excited to be starting our Fall challenge tomorrow! I don't have a problem with sleep, so it's a good way to start the challenge on a positive note! I too am glad we aren't weighing every week as my weight fluctuates a lot. I have been having a couple of not so active days over the weekend so I have my goals for the week printed out and I am ready to have an active and successful week.

Hi Dana, and thank you for the encouragement. I love the idea of weighing only twice a month. I'm still prone to getting discouaged. But I'm really proud of staying within my SP range.

Good morning ladies!!! I hope you're having a fabulous Sunday!!!

@Barbara - you inspire me!!!

@Dana - are you having a wonderful weekend as planned? I hope the weather has been nice. I am loving the crispness in the air that fall is coming!

I got up this morning and had nice walk with hubby! emoticon I am increasing my stamina because we made it further in the first 15 minutes than we have been. It feels great! Maybe sooner, rather than later, I'll be able to get back to wogging too! emoticon

@ Dana - thank you for your encouragement and the reminder to weigh in.

Today I had trouble getting motivated to get out the door, was feeling my allergies greatly, but today is day 29 of every day fitness which included walking Marv, shopping, and yoga, 6284 steps, 125 minutes. I also ate all three of my meals at the kitchen table today which is a huge accomplishment for me. Now to just remember to continue that habit.

Go Barbara!! You are so awesome lady!! :0)

Sara, Lol about the Kale in your teeth.

ABELLE, You will be just fine! We are only weighing in twice a month, so you won't have to face the scale weekly. My goal was for this challenge not to focus a whole lot on the scale. I mean it matters, but NSV are just as awesome and rewarding. :0)

***Don't forget to weigh in tomorrow ladies!***

@ Sara - I have trouble buying avocados too. Too often they are not good so I don't buy them very often even though I love them.

@ Belle - that is awesome that you are going to exceed your goal of burning 5,000 calories!

Dana and Barbara - I agree completely. I had to get over the "work" associated with making a smoothie in the morning, but now that I have my routine down, it is the best decision I've made.

I really cannot taste the spinach! I keep trying to get my boyfriend to try it, but he is so averse to it, he won't budge. I, however, like green smoothies, so I could just be used to the taste. It's MUCH milder than kale - in fact, while I generally like Kale, I have found that my Ninja blender does not blend it nearly as well as spinach, so I kept getting little bits stuck in my teeth... and, well, that's just not attractive.

I've had avocado as well, and really like the texture. My issue is mostly that I'm still a novice with buying avocados, so I've always bought and inadvertently used them under-ripened, and therefore made a mess of using the inside. I also slack off when buying fresh produce because my boyfriend won't eat it, and I seem to never finish before it goes bad!

I need to try almond milk again. I had it years ago (chocolate unsweetened) and was put off by the taste, but I now feel like I could put it to better use, at the very least with smoothies!

Happy Friday, All!

I'm still on track but still scared to weigh. Yikes. emoticon I'm on pace to make it well past my goal of 5,000 calories burned. By Saturday night, I should have about 5,200 calories burned. emoticon .

Here's hoping we all have a great weigh in for the beginning of the challenge!

Today was day 28 of every day fitness- swimming, aqua zumba, shopping, 5686 steps, 122 minutes. The scale was not a friend to me this morning at Weight Watchers, but that is okay. It only makes me more determined. This week I am going to focus on eating at the table (haven't been doing that since Bill's death in November) and also to focus on healthy snacks or no snacks. emoticon

Thanks Barbara and Becky!! I am so happy to be back!! :-)

Sara, I love adding PB to my smoothies when I make green smoothies. I am still getting use to the spinach taste. My boys swear they can't taste it (spinach), but I can. Lol, so the PB helps a lot. I have NEVER used milk in my smoothies. I just started using the Silk Almond milk. Before I used OJ. There are so many ways to make smoothies. Thank goodness for options!

@ Sara - thanks for the smoothie recipe and tips. I have also used avocado in my smoothie and it is really creamy and awesome, but has a few more calories although you don't have to use much. I have tried the PB2 powder and it is great and much less calories which is a plus.

I use water in my smoothies, and find it to still be delicious. The fruit in my smoothies brings the flavor and sweetness, and using a banana helps with obtaining the creamy texture. For extra creaminess, sometimes I will add dairy in by using a few spoonfuls of greek yogurt, or, depending on the flavor I want to achieve, I'll use peanut butter.

For those smoothie lovers, not sure if any of you have seen, heard, or tried the powder peanut butter, but it's great. Because there are no oils, it is much less fattening, but still has the same taste. I bought 2 16oz containers of PB2 on Amazon for a reasonable price, and because you are only using 1 or 2 TB, they seem to last forever!

With that, I typically use a combination of these ingredients:
1 - 1.5 C water
1 - 2 handfuls spinach (usually freeze this)
1 C frozen fruit (usually berries so it has some sweetness)
1/2 - 1 banana (usually freeze this)
1 TB flax seed
1 scoop protein powder or 1 - 2 TB PB2, powdered peanut butter
a dash of cinnamon
1 - 2 spoonfuls of greek yogurt
If I need more sweetness, I'll use some honey.

You won't miss the milk, even if you cut out the yogurt due to dairy concerns. What's even better, as I mentioned above... I'll cut up my bananas ahead of time, and divide into freezer bags: bananas, spinach, and fruit. That way, in the morning, I can just dump it in and add the other ingredients to save a little time. Spinach can get a little crunchy, but the nutrition is still there!

@Dana - I like to use Almond milk with my smoothies. Sometimes milk does the same thing to me as it does Barbara.

@Barbara - look at you go! You did awesome with your steps yesterday!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I had a decent Wednesday. I ate around 1300 cal and was able to get about 30 minutes of moderate activity just while I was at work. I didn't do any of my strength last night though. I was really tired. I worked a 10 hour day. I was in bed around 8:30. This morning I'm feeling refreshed so I think that sleep was just what I needed.
@ Dana - milk doesn't always agree with my tummy and I just like the texture and taste of the coconut water.
I had a good day. Slept good last night, even woke up an hour early so today felt much longer. LOL Got my kitchen floor mopped, bank account balanced, walk with Marv, and yoga, 9454 steps, 143 minutes of fitness.
Barbara, someone else said they like the water instead of the milk. Can you tell me why please?
Becky, It could be a number of reasons why you are up for your weigh in. Reevaluate and try not to let yourself get frustrated. Remember, you may not be where you want to be, but you aren't where you use to be right? :-)
@ Dana - good for you for trying out a green smoothie and woo hoo the boys liked it. I have tried them in the past and I do like them, but I have to make sure I use coconut water rather than milk of any kind. I made one I liked and it had kale and pineapple in it as well as the coconut water.
Today was day 24 of my every day fitness and I had a very nice hot and sweaty walk after church, ended up with 9704 steps. I have been keeping a running list of things I hope to get accomplished for the day. I include fitness, fun, and house chores. It is working fairly good so far. Today I got both bathrooms cleaned (which I really hate doing), repaired a flower pot gift my daughter made for my birthday (in May), got the bank account balanced for the Distinguished Young Women group I belong to, got in my walk, played with Marv, and got half of one dish cloth completed for the craft fair. Feeling accomplished!
Barbara, hang in there friend things will get better for you. I am glad that you are venting and that you are finding healthy ways to cope. That is a plus!
I have sent an email out to those interested n the Fall Challenge. If you did not receive an email it is because you didn't post on the Fall Challenge topic that you are interested in the challenge. Please sign up there so that I can know who all will be participating. The 22nd is the last day to sign up for the challenge. There will be NO new members added to the challenge after that time. If you have any questions feel free to contact me via sparkmail.
On another note, I am trying green smoothies out. I made my first one today. My boys loved it which was very encouraging. It was really good! I have always been interested in trying one, but was afraid that it would taste like spinach or greens. I used spinach for mine. Does anyone else like green smoothies and if so, what type do you make?
@Barbara: That's a real victory, Barbara. Good for you. It's hard enough to keep an exercise routine without having to battle those emotions. emoticon
I think I'm giving the walking a rest today, I've been going at it pretty hard. My feet and legs are sore. I'll do an hour on my exercise bike today and try and keep my calories on the low side of my range.
Besides, I have a lot of housework to do and that counts too! emoticon
I started the day off feeling lonely and sorry for myself, but I made myself get out anyway. I had a good day. Went to a quilt show (alone) but it was nice. Today is my day 23 of everyday fitness - biking (6.5 miles), strength, housework, and shopping, 9004 steps, 110 minutes total. I also had time to knit and make a cute little soap gift bag/wash cloth for a fund raiser craft fair.
I tracked all my food the past 2 days on here. This is a VERY big deal for me as I usually only track on MFP and not Spark. But I wanted to compare the two and see who was the most accurate. Plus I am trying to get back into the habit of tracking my food again.
I do feel better when I workout but sometimes sleep is important too. Last night I went to bed at 7:30am and slept until 6:30am. I feel great this morning. emoticon
Good evening friends. Today ended up being pretty much a rest day. My grandson came to mow the lawn and we went out for lunch. Then I had my hair trimmed and it was muggy outside so I didn't feel like doing much. Marv and I did get in a short walk, but not much. This evening my friend was supposed to come to pick me up for Aqua Zumba but she didn't and I didn't really feel like going so I didn't. It was rainy, thundering and windy so I just relaxed and knitted and tried to calm Marv down. My day 19 results ended up with 5939 steps, 45 minutes which is still good in my book.
@FITGIRL Thank you for your kind words. Way to go getting in your workout when you didn't feel like it. It is AWESOME to feel better afterwards and I find that is almost always the way it is.
@Barbrara - that's AMAZING progress! #whataninspiration
@Dana - the fall challenge looks like it's going to be a great one! emoticon
Yesterday was good for me. I did not want to work out but did it anyway and you know, I felt better afterward. Isn't that the best feeling? You feel so accomplished and strong when you finish a workout that you didn't really want to do in the first place! emoticon
@ Dana - thank you for your kind comment. 16 people is a great way to start the Fall challenge and hopefully we'll get even more interested in the next two weeks!
Today was Day 18 of my fitness streak. 5 mile bike ride, housework, and yoga, 6195 steps, 105 minutes. Now I just need to get my nutrition under better control. Trying to figure out motivation to cook for one and not very successful so far.
Oh my Barbara I am really impressed! Thank you for posting such a motivational post!
Well, we are up to 16 people interested in the Fall Challenge. I think we can hit 20 before the official start date (8/25). If you know someone that you think could benefit or who may be interested in the challenge, feel free to send them over. The more the merrier right? ;)
Good evening friends. I had another nice day. Got woke up early by my grandson for a ride, went to church, went for a nice walk with Marv then went to a church social gathering. It was a small group this time and we were very chatty so it lasted almost twice as long as usual so that took up most of the day. I then came home, had dinner and knitted for a while. I am on Day 17 of my every day fitness streak. Next challenge for me will be getting out of the sweet snack habit.
Day 17 - walking, 6870 steps, 55 minutes
Day 16 - walking, 6343 steps, 50 minutes
Day 15 - walking and yoga, 6970 steps, 124 minutes total
Day14 - 75 minute biking (15 miles); walking, 10479 steps, 145 minutes total
Day 13 - 4 hours of yard work, 6094 steps, 58 minutes exercise
Day 12 biking( 5.5 miles), swimming (250 yards), water aerobics, walking, 6939 steps,
154 minutes
Day 11 - walking and yoga, 6925 steps, 120 minutes
Day 10 - walking, 4852 steps, 32 minutes
Day 9 - walking, 7041 steps, 79 minutes
Day 8 - walk and yoga, 8185 steps, 136 minutes
Day 7 - short walk, house work, and yoga, 7,842 steps, 132 minutes
Day 6 - nice walk, yard work and house work, 10356 total steps, 93 minutes
Day 5 - nice walk, 8925 total steps for the day, and 9 minute strength, total of 86 minutes .
Day 4 - nice walk, 10128 total steps for the day, and 60 minute yoga, total of 143 minutes
Day 3 - walking the dog and just walking around 48 minutes
Day 2 - walking dog and shopping for a total of 75 minutes
Day 1 - walking plus yoga for a total of 141 minutes
Hey everyone! Whew - I've been miserable feeling all day. But, wait for it, wait for it, I did my WHOLE shoulder workout today! My trainer has me doing five sets which is usually REALLY hard but I watched a 45 minute show and completed my workout. YAY!
emoticon Feeling strong today!
Hi all. I am doing well with exercise, but still struggling with food. It is the pits to have to cook for one and eat alone, but I will not give up. While I have kept up with my fitness pretty much through all, I just recently started working on a fitness streak challenge, and I am currently on day 11 of fitness every day of some sort.
Way to go FITGRL on your lost pounds and doing so well with staying on track! Keep it up!
How is everyone doing today? I have a busy day planned for today, since I was in the bed most of the day yesterday. Had a tooth pulled, was in a lot of pain. Today, need to get the grocery shopping done, get my hair cut, clean house and wash clothes. Today is beautiful outside, but looks like it will be a hot one again!
FitGrl, I am here! Let's kick some butt. It will be a good week this week!!! emoticon emoticon
Hi All ..........
Hope you had a good fourth and are having fun on this longer weekend!
I am glad to have gotten in a good workout today ........... Then got grocery
shopping done; went out to lunch w/ hubby, got some great deals at stores
since the sales are on!
One thing I am doing is ............ I watched a video on how to make an indoor
terrarium and so am gathering the essentials; I want to make a couple and give
one to my secret pal at work.............. Love fun hobbies ............. Any of you
have some FUN hobbies besides Sparking?
Happy Sunday Team
I am sorry I have not been around for quite sometime. I have no excuses. I havent done well food or exercise wise. I am probably the most I have ever weighed currently. I am finding there is very few clothes in my closest that I fit into anymore and that depresses me. I have two jobs now. Full Time during the week Mon-Fri 9-5pm pays $15/hr emoticon . And I have my weekend job that I do Sat/Sun from 12-4pm pays $16/hr (just got a raise at that one last week). Also graduated from my college program at the end of April and my grad convocation ceremonies is on the 18th emoticon . So I am doing well financially for the first time in years. I hope my FT job stays because its temporary for one month but if all goes well maybe the company will hire me on permanent.
I weighed myself this morning. This is emoticon yet again but I will make it work at some point or another lol. I already did a 30min walk this morning. Tracked everything i have eatten and drank thus far which has been to much yet.
I promise I will be more active on the discussion form. I am even considering changing my homepage to the start page of Sparkpeople. Then I wont have any excuses for not tracking.
I posted a new blog about my first week of June. I didn't do so bad, but I could of done better. I am going to try to start focusing more on what I am doing well and not so much on what isn't going right. Often I am too hard on myself about the "bad" and not giving myself enough praise about the "good".
