That's so cute about Flapjack and the turkey!

My cats had a big, old box to play on/with when we bought our new toilet on Sunday. I think they must be very sad today, though, because it went out with the recycling this morning!

That is too funny about Flapjack "stealing" the turkey. Good thinking on your part.
Vince, I am so glad you are doing better. Keep taking that medicine 'cause that's what's helping you feel better.I understand why you get all the turkey you want now. But you will get better and better...I just know it.

Hi folks

Hope you're all having a great Christmas with your fur babies.

My two have had a GREAT time.

Vince has been really well, not too happy about having to have medication each day, but happy to be appeased with chunks of turkey. He's been putting on weight over Christmas (turkey helps), and generally enjoying the empty Christmas boxes. Can't move in my lounge for boxes at the moment. I guess in some houses, they get to throw the boxes out after Christmas... but not if you have a cat.

Flapjack my other cat refuses 'offered' turkey, but I realised that as an ex wild cat, he might have his own way of getting food, so I've taken to leaving bowls of turkey in places he's not supposed to go and he's really enjoyed 'stealing' the turkey.

So happy that Vince is doing so much better. I pray he'll continue to improve and stays strong so you'll have a few more years with him anyway if his quality of life remains good.

Both my brothers and my nephew and his wife and my Sis loved their themed gift baskets. The company really does a nice job the the baskets look like they did the the catalog and on line. The all were a hit. Think I'll d the same next year but change the baskets around and pick out different ones.

Had a good service in church. Looking forward to our Christmas Eve service tomorrow night. It's also our 33 wedding anniversary. We were married at 9 pm.

Max sends his love and meows. He asks that you check out his latest blog and see what he's been up to that scared me very badly.

Hi Jen

you didn't sound judgemental at all. I would much prefer to keep him in. Happily he is primarily an indoor cat (unless I tell him he can't go out).

I've not had much time on the computer over the last two days what with shopping, and running other folk around to do their shopping, but I will sign up to the group you recommended when things quieten down a bit.

Hi all

The boy is doing well, and loving the arrival of masses of boxes. He can't wait for them to be emptied of their rubbish (presents), so he can claim them for their real purpose (a nest for him).

He's got a bit fed up waiting for us to empty the latest arrival from Amazon, so has squeezed himself in with the content, which looks pretty ridiculous, but he's happy. We had planned to finish the wrapping tonight, but it doesn't look as if he's going to budge, so it will be last minute wrapping tomorrow night.

He's not keen on having his meds via syringes and he's clearly getting a lot stronger as its getting harder and harder to administer it.

I have no idea where I'm up to on my diet. I weigh myself tomorrow...I have been trying to moderate what I eat but not really logged my food properly. I will be content if I've plateaued!

hope everyone's Christmas planning and sorting is going well.

LOL! (at the cat ripping the door apart) I had a cat that used to do that. If I shut him out of a room, he'd grab the bottom of the door and just *wham! Wham! Wham!* Mess with it until I thought it would come off the hinges! They are stronger than they look!

My cats have always been indoors, so I always default to that. I'm sorry if I came off as judgemental. I'm not. I know you love your kitties. :)

They can go back and forth when they have it, and it also depends on the cancer itself. I think joining that list will really benefit you. It doesn't matter what kind he has, but once you know and can share that, people will be able to give you tips, etc. I found it very helpful when my Aria was still with us. (She had chronic lympocytic leukemia--CLL). I'm still on the list, but I have it set to "web-only", because (Thank goodness!) I'm not in that situation right now.

Good luck to you! Just love him with everything you've got while he's still with you! :)

thank you for the tip - I had a quick look at the yahoo group and realised they hadn't actually told me what sort of cancer he has. He goes back to the vet on Monday, so I'll speak to them then.

- it certainly does feel very hopeful at the moment. He's been playing, eating, putting on weight and generally being his gorgeous self.

I have considered keeping him in, but last time we tried to block of the cat flap, our other cat ripped the whole thing out of the door. He is primarily an indoor cat (his own choosing) and just goes out for toileting especially in winter. Happily I have an enclosed garden, and as long as I keep the back door open he just goes out there rather than the front now.

So glad he's continuing to improve. This news makes me so happy!

You may actually end up having a couple of YEARS with him, depending on the nature of his cancer. For support, I can recommend a very good Yahoo!Group. It's called feline-cancer. VERY good list. I was on it for a while. Lots of info and support there.

Have you considered maybe keeping him inside and just getting him some kitty furniture, considering his weakness?

No downed trees in our house! I hang up a wreath instead. ;) Enjoy your holidays!

Glad you're back in favor now. It's hard when you're perceived as the "bad" parent eventhough you're just trying to help them. They don't understand. Max has really been good these past weeks now with the trees after I sprayed orange scent on them.

Hi folks

our boy continues to improve, although we know its only temporary it is lovely to see him bossing us around, demanding food, brushes and all manner of attention. He's also started to venture out, and I think is a tad irritated that we're still following him down the road (he's not very strong and nimble, so I do worry if a car or a dog came along, as I'm not sure he could run very fast at the moment).

How's everyone's furby's doing? Any wrecked Christmas trees yet? Flap Jack our other boy (1 year old), as had a few bats at the baubles on the tree, but seems to prefer clawing at the tinsel - worrying as he might catch one of the wires from the lights).

Happily I'm no longer just public enemy number one, with his renewed interest in food, he's remembered that I have thumbs and am 'keeper of the fridge' - I'm back in favour again!

Thank you everyone for your kind comments, tips and support. We've had a good day. He's eating for England...literally! I'm pretty sure he's put a bit of weight on and is generally a bit more alert.

I'm still public enemy number one, as I'm the one who has been giving him his medicine (its in a liquid form, so via a syringe. Tonight my partner is going to administer it, just so that he doesn't just associate me with medicine.

I hope all is well with everyone. I'm not spending a lot of time online at the moment, I'm just really tired. Hopefully now though we're turning a corner - I'm expecting to get a full nights sleep tonight!

If you're giving him pills, try Greenes Pill Pockets. I wish I had them years ago. We had to pill Max after surgery and it was so cool him wanting to eat (almost inhale) his meds. He didn't really mind the injections if he got his treat at the same time.

Thank you for your support Bittercat, and the tips Marthroid We will definately take those up.

Our boy (Vince) is much better today. I slept again on the sofa with him. He had other ideas during the night however, and took himself off to the bedroom for some proper rest. Our vet gave him an injection last night, for most of the raft of tablets he has to take at the moment, so we now only have to administer two lots, which is a lot less stressful for us all. During the night he got up at 1:30 a.m. and 3:00 a.m. and actually ate some chicken. This morning I knew he was a little better, when I went into him he gave his usual little 'good morning' chirrup and went into the kitchen for more food. He's sat on the sofa now grooming, so obviously feeling a bit more like his old self.

The main difficulty at the moment is I want to give him lots of love and cuddles, but I'm currently Enemy No.1 as I'm one the administering his medication, and my partner has been promoted to Best Friend No.1 (which is causing our other cat some concern as he 'owns' my partner.

This morning was my weigh-in, and I was pleased that I'd managed to lose half a pound. I really haven't given much thought to my weight loss goals over the last week, so it was a pleasant surprise.

Bless your kitty's heart. We slept near our cat (when she was doing poorly) and the vet had some interesting ideas for food, if your cat can do these: baby food (like chicken, etc); tuna juice poured on food, canned food that is really wet. My cat was having a hard time chewing...don't know if your kitty has this problem. I bought lots of different canned food for her to try...smorgasbord. If he's having a hard time leaning, we put her food on top of another bowl to make it closer to her face; and lots of clean water filled to the brim. I hope your kitty does well at home emoticon

Hello everyone

Thank you so much for your lovely messages. I'm not spending a lot of time on the computer but thought I would give you an update.

Our boy came home yesterday and was clearly pleased to be home. He did eat a little, but not much. He decided to sleep on the sofa last night so I joined him and it was lovely to be able to reach out and know he was there. He purred a lot in the night.

Today he hasnt really eaten much, and we took him to our local vet, who is an absolute treasure and really cares for him. She gave him an injection as we were struggling to get his tablets down him. He's comfortable at the moment, and purrs when we speak to him and stroke him, but still not really interested in food.

I think it's a matter of fingers crossed at the moment, I'm going to try him with a bit of food shortly and will sleep with him again tonight...goodness knows where, earlier he seemed keen to go in the bathroom and doze. The vet has said to let him do whatever he needs to do, so I might be sleeping in the bath tonight.

I'll keep you updated on his progress (I told him that his Spark Team is routing for him).

I hope your furry owners are well. Give them all an extra hug from me tonight (or morning if you're in a different time zone).

I'm glad that you got your little guy back home where he is more comfortable and you can give him hugs and kisses. Its sad that you have to deal with the cancer diagnosis but atleast you have this time to spend with him. Everyday will be special and a gift. He is lucky to have you as his pet parent as you are fortunate that he came into your life. Hugs to you both.

We are on the way to pick up our boy. I spoke to the vet this morning and he has been ok off the drip and has eaten . Although in the long term there is the issue of the cancer at least we will get some time with him. The vet says he is not in pain and will have to be closely monitored. For now I am just thankful for small mercies and will cherish whatever time we have left together.

Thank you all for your support. I will keep you updated on his progress. Xx

It sounds like he's telling you it's time as hard as that is to face. I hope he can come home and be with you for a little while longer, but if not I know you will do what is best for him. Your last act of love for him would be to let him go peacefully. My thoughts and prayers are with you as you make thiis decision,.

Thank you everyone for your kindness and support. Our boy isn't any better today, he's not been eating and the vet hospital say that there isn't a lot more they can do for him. They have suggested that we bring him home, and see if he will eat, so we are picking him up tomorrow morning. Tonight they need to take him off the drip and see how he is. If he is OK off the drip, then we can bring him home, but if he can't survive without the drip then they have advised that it is his time and we will have to let him go. That will be a difficult decision, but one that we will make. As much as I hate the thought of losing him, the thought of him suffering is worse.

I will keep you posted on how it goes. I am hoping he is home tomorrow, and have got our vet on stand-by so that if he comes home and needs urgent attention we can take him straight away.

thank you again for all of your lovely words of support. When things are a little more settled I will reply to you all individually.

I hope your furry owners are all well.

Sending positive thoughts to you and your furbaby. I understand the feelings of waiting, not knowing, and the emptiness. I have recently been through a long illness with my senior cat. Spending more than I could afford, and hoping I was making the right choices for him and not myself. It can be very painful. Fortunately, he is ok for the moment. I hope yours also has a good outcome.
Please keep us posted. emoticon

I pray he can be comfortable and have more time with you. Hope he can come back home and keep your home happy. I know how difficult it is to have a sick kitty. I think we've all been through this. I wish you all the best. emoticon from my Max and me.

it's been a really difficult 24 hours. My cat was listless and not eating on Sunday, so Monday morning, when he still wasnt asking for food we took him to the vet hospital. they kept him in, and we assumed it was a flare up of his old problems (he's had liver, kidney and heart problems and was quite poorly just over a year ago). However, this time they've identified that he has cancer. There's more tests to do, and they're saying that it is likely he has had this for a while and what may be making him off colour at the moment is simply a virus but ev3en then the long term prognosis isn't good.

The house feels really empty without our boy. Funny you don't notice how they just take over, but looking around there's his toys in one corner, his collection of carrier bags in another (we cut the handles so he doesn't get caught up in them, his blanket by the radiator (it was supposed to be mine but he claimed it immediately), and his favourite cushion on the sofa.

We'll get the results on Thursday, so it's going to be a really difficult couple of days.
