We have one cat that we rescued 3 years ago he is a Maine Coon/Persian that we named Tiger not because his fur actually has stripes which it does now but when we got him he was solid black and if you ruffled his fur you could see his skin has stripes on it like a tiger :-) Some people think I am silly because I have two kids who even though they are 11 & 8 I still call my babies and well I don't consider "pets" (ugh I hate that word) a pet I consider them a member of the family and as such Tiger has become known as my fuzzy baby so some people think I am weird. Oh well he is happy, well taken care of and loved beyond words and that is all that matters....not what people think of me :-)

We have nine cats. All are rescues -- a few of them started out as fosters that we adopted rather than see them stressed/confused by yet another change of environment. My husband had a climate - controlled cat room built, featuring steps for climbing higher up the 12-foot walls, leading to a walk-around ledge about 9 feet up. Each cat has its own cozy cubbie. The cats are not confined indoors 24/7. They are free to roam our fenced back yard during the day and even visit in the house if they wish. Currently our youngest cat is 6 years old and the oldest is 17.

I still find each day too short for all the thoughts I want to think, all the walks I want to take, all the books I want to read, and all the friends I want to see. --John Burroughs

We have four at the moment. Bailey ( 12 yr old orange tiger, female), Dudley (7 yr old mackerel tabby, male), Minerva (7 yr old gray and white, female), and Sadie ( almost 13 yr old gray, female). All were adopted through the local Humane Society. Each has her or his own personality and all make me smile every day. emoticon

I have 2 rescues. One from the Humane Society and the other from the SPCA of NV.

Chloe was only 10 months old, just had a litter of kittens that she weaned, and had just gotten over being Spayed when I found her. She actually picked me out among other people in the open cage area. So how could I resist?

Then a month later I found Bella at the Humane Society, and she was 1.5 years old. Two other families had her before, and she was only in there for 2 weeks. So I feel in love and brought her home.

These were the two I was meant to have.

Their pics are on my page. They get along great, and they are so smart, funny, they understand some words, and have me trained!

Hi, I just joined the group today and figured this was the perfect thread to start with. I have 6 cats. Dune (16) a handsome orange tabby, Penny (4) a beautiful domestic short hair with extra toes, Loki (3) a shiny black cat with a white spot on his throat and tummy, Dobby (2) an eccentric looking beauty who is part Siamese and part calico, Hermione (2) a chubby little tortie, and Zazzles (1) Hermione's kitten he is a black and white tuxedo kitty. Even with this full house, I also have a dog Keira (1.5) aussie/black lab mix, and I am taking on two more cats for a week and a half for a friend while he visits family out of state for the holiday. The more the merrier at our house, and they are all rescue babies either from local shelters, or our own backyard.

I have 9. I had 3 older ones. Then my neighbors house burnt down and they left all their cats. There were 5 kittens that were displaced and kept going over to the burnt out hull, and trying to find shelter. I started feeding them, and the next thing I knew they were staying in my yard. But they reached the 6 month mark and kittens started happening. I ended up with 2 Mama's and 4 of their kittens (whom I wouldn't trade for the world) Chaplin had her only litter I brought her in the house, and I have her daughter Lily from that, 2 Tuxedo's. And Boe was more feral and wouldn't let me touch her, She ended up with 2 litters, I have 3 kittens I kept from her, Samantha (My love) Meimo ( my Siamese linebacker) and my little Tigger, who was limping the first part of his kitten life, he's ok now. And they are all indoors I live in an area where predators are abundant, coyotes, cougars, Owls and even 2 eagles. So they are not safe, I had lost one to I am sure, a predator, when I let some go out, I brought them all in at night, but my little Bella didn't want to come in that night, and I never saw her again. emoticon The only problem I have with this many cats, is all the litter boxe's I have to maintain, it gets backbreaking sometimes, but if one chooses to have this many, then roll with the punches.

Technically I have 4 but only 3 live with me...Turtle a pretty and dainty little calico with a Diva complex, Rocky who is her little adoptive Tabby cat sister with an attitude to match her name (her collar tag has a skull and crossbones on it), and Gandalf their big little grey tabby adoptive brother who is an absolute sweetheart. Gandy is literally twice the size of Turtle, but although she is small, she is mighty and holds her own and then some when they play.

My oldest cat is Tyler, a buff colored tabby, who lives with my son now. I moved to France last September, from Michigan, and since Tyler is a senior cat (12 years now) I was afraid he would not do well on the airplane so I gave him to my son. It turns out I was right, Tyler freaked out on just the one hour drive to my son's home and had to be treated for tearing his paws up trying to get out of his carrier...and then had to be treated for anxiety for a month because of the stress of the move and living in a new home. He already knew my son for his whole life (my son was moving at the same time to his dad's house) so at least he was spared that stress of being around strange people.

Currently three in residence, my own--Solomon--and two visitors--Rhiannon and Pooh Manchu.

The boys, Solomon and Pooh, and black and white bicolors while the girl, Rhiannon, is a drop-dead gorgeous silver tabby with a dark gray skunk-strip.

Audrey, 11 cats??? I'm so glad your husband loves cats. I did have three (Morris passed away 2 yrs ago) and my husband thought three was enough. Wait until I tell him you have 11 and so do I! Welcome.

Hi everyone! My name is Audrey. I'm new here but I wanted to share that I have 11 cats, all indoors. Yes, there is fighting from time to time. Yes, I have a couple "trouble kids" that pee in weird places. But I love them all, ranging in age from 17 to 3 years old. Their names are: Dexter (17, grey tabby), Digby (13, orange tabby), Simone (13, Siamese), Hobbes (9, ragdoll and tripod), Kiba (7, white DSH), Patrick (8, brown tabby), Jelly (8, brown mackerel tabby), Miss Kitty (7, calico DLH and tripod), Otis (7, brown tabby), Choji (4, black and white tuxedo), Rory, (3, black and white tuxedo). Phew! I also have a very understanding husband who also loves cats. :)

It depends on what you mean by "have." There 7 living in my house - Mizuno, Nike, Datsyuk, Scrappy, Feisty, Maya, and Maui. Then I have one that was born a feral, but since I have fed her since she was a baby, she let me pet her and pick her up. Her name is Diva and she comes in and out of the house on demand (hence the name Diva). Diva's mom, MammaKitty, was a stray or someone dumped her. She lived in the house for awhile but got run out by one of her sons, Datsyuk, so she is back to living outside. Then there are 4 completely ferals, Princess, Rho, and Rho's unnamed daughter and son. So that's a total of 13 between the indoor and outdoor cats. Whew! I guess I am the crazy cat lady.

Actually I signed over two of the indoor cats to an adoption agency and even though I have had then since they were 2 weeks old, they are fosters.

We have fourteen cats (and one dog). All are rescues.

About two years ago the latest and youngest one was dropped out of a car window in an ally - my stepdaughter saw them do it and brought the kitten to us. The poor fur baby was so flea bitten she didn't mind the bath I gave her.

Four others were supposed to be fosters, but that didn't work out. It was a stray momma cat with kittens that a woman trapped and saved from a neighbor that sics his dogs on any strays that he sees. These four never not got over their fear of people so they really weren't what potential adopters were looking for. That's fine ... we love them the way they are and they're safe and comfortable with us.

The others all have their sad stories, too. But they're in their forever home and we love them all for their individual personalities.

I live in a house of 3. Only one is actually my cat, Athena. She loves my fiance more then me. She's too prissy to be loving to anyone really. She'll let you pet her on her terms. The tom of the house is my fat Blackie. He's my mom's cat and Athena's son. He's always been my cat. I was the first person to hold him when he was born and He's been mine since. Lastly is Small Fry, she's a tiny little thing and Athena's baby from another litter. Like her mom, she only accepts lovings on her terms. Its okay for her to curl up in your lap but heaven forbid you pet her. LOL I love my kittens!

Now you are getting closer to our little (?) family. We currently have 9 indoor only fur babies. 3 of these are rescue kittens that came to us at 2 days old. They were part of a family of 7 not including a feral mom who got shooed away before they realized she had 7 babies stashed away in an upstairs closet. By the time mom was captured, we had already been feeding the itty bitties for at least 36 hours. She was not happy to see them. We lost 3 to an underdeveloped respiratory system and one to an infection he had when he was born. The last 3 are now 6 1/2 weeks old and are in the process of joining our family of 7(correction, 6 we lost one of our oldest last week) adult cats and 2 dogs. I didn't realize how old I was getting until we went back to round the clock feedings! LOL

I have three right now. My oldest, Patches, is a female shelter long hair who is about 9 years old. When we had her tested, she had feline leukemia. She was our only cat for a while and an indoor cat only, so it was good they didn't find this out at the shelter, or she would have been put down. She was about 9 months old when we got her. After about 6 months, the doctor did more bloodwork and noticed that she appeared to be changing the infected blood cells.Within that first year, her blood cells coverted into normal cells. The vet has been amazed. They said that only 3% of cats ever do that. She is my miracle cat! Between that, she also ate a spool of thread and was fortunate to have it pass without problems, and then she was one of those pets that were poisoned with the China ingredient scandal. We had 2 pets in my town that was affected by the poisoned food. The other pet died. Patches had to be on a strict diet for while, but is now fine. Like I said, miracle cat!

Then we have a 3 year old grey tabby, Baby Bop. My hubby and oldest daughter were waiting along the highway getting ready for the homecoming parade and someone passed by and threw 2 kittens out the back. My mom took one that was hurt to the vet and we took the other one home. Our neighbor was the animal control officer. I asked her to look the kitten over and if there was someone that would be willing to have a kitten. The kitten was about 10 weeks old then and she said they just got a whole bunch of kittens, so she could only give 3 days to this one. There was no way I was going to let a perfectly healthy kitten be put to sleep after 3 days, especially since it was Friday and 3 days wouldn't be enough time to even look for someone. So we took her home and cared for her while looking for another home. Then...the kids named her, and we just couldn't let her go. She has been a great kitty.

Our third cat, Pumpkin, is the last of the litter from a stray we adopted. The stray disappeared and this one male yellow cat is the only kitten left. He is 2 years old and just loves kids! He likes to visit the kids walking by as they go to the bus stop that's half a blook away. When I took my kids trick or treating last year, he followed behind us the entire way. He is the best outdoor kitty I have ever had. I also don't have to worry about pests from the outside. He is a great hunter (sometimes to my chagrin). He has caught numerous birds, a couple bunnies, a squirrel and about a month ago he caught a bat. Don't worry, I have had all his shots kept current and make sure his is de-wormed.

I have one little guy, his name is Edward. I was never a "cat person," in fact I never even liked cats at all! Two weeks after I had to put my dog and best friend of 13 years down because she had cancer, this kitten started waiting on my porch for me. When I came outside he would walk with me down the sidewalk.
When I went inside, he would sit on my porch banister and wait for me. One day I just said "fine! you can come in!" He came in and jumped up right on my lap. At night, he sleeps right next to my pillow. It's like we've been friends forever, he's been such a blessing!
I found a picture frame to put his picture in at work and it says "who rescued who?"
It's so very true! emoticon

I currently have 4 indoor cats (one abandoned kitty is working her way inside our house and our hearts!, which will soon make 5) but sadly one is 17 and has bad arthritis and thyroid issues, so I don't think we'll let her go on much longer. Poor little thing . . .

I have one, a Brown Tiger,,,, with a mix of LaMar and I forget,, the short legged one. She's very, very tiny for 2 yrs in Nov. Weighs in at barely 9lbs and looks soooo small, but the vet says she's fine. her name is Isabella, but is called Izzy, after a dear friend of mine who has moved from Vermont to Maine to enjoy the ocean. In turn,,,, now a few yrs later,,, LOL I am moving from Maine to Colardo to enjoy the mountains.

Izzy is so CUTE and ADORABLE ! She's also been certified as a ADA cat. I have 2 Dr's that have done this ,,,one for "emotional Support" and the other "becuase its been found people who have the back condition you do (Spondylolsis) when they hear the "Purr' at once start to relax,,,often smile,,,,, and it changes the chemicals of the brain/body and hence the spondy does not hurt as much. Its in the New England Journal of Medicine for reference. :)

Izzy Picked ME just an Hr after I had lost Princess (all black ME Coon) and I was at the shelter looking for a kitty who needed a home, as badly as I needed a kitty to love. I did not want a kitten, I have to many disabilities to start off with a baby gal or boy. She was TOTALLY IGNORING EVERYONE who'd come up to her cage,,,,she has white paws, whiskers,,,,,bib, stomach,,,,,zipper down her belly. She's soooo PRETTY !!! She just didn't care for them. No other cat was interested in me,,,,and I was going to take a 2nd look,,,when as I 3 cages from hers,,,,,, she and I met eyes,,, and she SUDDENLY STUCK her PAW OUT UPSIDE DOWN and MOVED IT side ways, over and over again,,,motioning me over !!! I KNEW She WANTED ME !!! And I WANTED HER !! From there on,,, we've been together,,, that was in Nov,,, she was just a yr old. :)

At first she'd NOT play, clean herself,,,,,,, for the first month. I was sooo concerned. The NOT play was soooo strange. Finally I put her under water to clean her,,,, this kicked in her into cleaning herself. Than she slowly realized she was MINE and ME HERS !!! She started to play. We are a TOTAL MATCH now. She PLAYS SO MUCH Now,,,, meets EVERYONE at the door, as if she's a Dog. Sits in EVERYONE's lap.

We are going to move,,,,live with my fam for a few months to many months. I am sooo frightened she'll get out. I am soooo scared. When we get out there,,,, I'll have her tagged,,,, so she'll have that thing in her,,, so if she does get out,,, HOPEFULLY she'll be found and returned to ME !!! IF someone doesnt KEEP HER ! Of course her collar will be on also.

I LOVE her so.

We have 6 inside and a colony of 5 ferals. Inside we have 3 males (Stonie, Rory, and George the baby who thinks he is king!) and 3 females (Dusty- the Queen, Lily our shy one, and Harmony, our special needs kitty- her back legs look like bunny legs, and she has allergies to every food except the limited ingredient ones...code for the expensive stuff!)

All of them have very distinct personalities, and interact with each other in different ways. Some times it is fun to sit back and watch the "fur fly" so to speak as they play and chase each other!

Two furbabies, Ebony and Cleo. Ebony is mostly black with a bit of white on her tummy. Cleo is a Himalayan/Tabby mix who thinks she is the most beautiful girl around. My mom says she never met a conceited cat until she met Cleo. Both are indoor cats, though Cleo gave me a few gray hairs 4th of July when she escaped without us knowing and had to spend a little time in kitty jail.

One, Princess turned 1 on June 12, 2012. She is mostly an indoor cat. Last night she got out at 4:30pm and stayed out until a little after 4 am. The whole time she was in the next door neighbor's backyard, in the trees. Funny, today she's acting extremely tired. Actually, the whole household is pretty tired. We are going to make a genuine effort to keep her indoors. There are too many raccoons, skunks and even coyotes around our home.

Greeneyes, Your Gabby is adorable.

I have one cat, and he is Max. He turned two in April but we have had him almost 4 months now. We lost our beloved Thor on March 15 and adopted Max on March 25.I couldn't stand not have a cat around. I saw Thor everywhere I looked. I still do sometimes.

I have two inside kitties, Rufus and Sadie. They are from the same litter. Real sweeties. I can't remember a time I didn't have at least one cat. See my spark page for their photos.

4 indoor feline fur babies here! They belonged to my boyfriend & I until we broke up. They now live with me & he has visitation rights.

*Lucky - "The Prince". 6 1/2 year old half Aby & half street cat (one of only 2 to survive from a litter of 8)

*Sammy & Benny - "The Twins". Almost 7 years old, short hair Tuxedo brothers who were rescued from a junkyard in Kentucky & shuffled around a bit until they found their way to me.

*Smokey - "Sir Scowlington". 4 year old gray tabby with the cutest little scowl you've ever seen. He came from a local cat rescue.

Mirror image of my home: We have 6 cats, one of them being foster. Our two youngest kittens are in my profile pic - Frodo and Mr. Fuzz. The foster cat, Anastasia, was rescued from a hoarding situation - part of a rescue shown on Confessions of an Animal Hoarder. Our adults are Magic, Snitch, and Max. Haven't had a mole problem since...

I currently have six cats, although officially only five, one's a foster that I've made a very poor job of getting adopted [it's just so great to have a kitten around again!]. My five cats are Avocado, Ginny, Serenity, Ender, and Felix Felicis, and the foster's name is Elijah. Avocado and Ginny were supposed to be my only two cats, I adopted them about five years ago from the same shelter, although about six months apart [Avocado's adoption anniversary is actually at the end of this month].

Avocado's the loveable troublemaker, he's cost me thousands upon thousands of dollars in emergency vet bills and is always trying to sneak out of the house [especially towards the end of winter... I take him and Ginny outside regularly when it's nicer out, on their leashes]. Ginny's the lone ginger and is my "grumpy old lady" [although she's not old, she just acts it!], she prefers to be by herself or just with me, she's never been one for playing and she growls if one of the other cats so much as looks at her the wrong way. She spends most of her time sleeping or following me around the house.

Serenity was supposed to be a foster that I took in, but it turned out that she was pregnant and by the time the kittens were born and weaned, Avocado had fallen in love with her. I had also fallen in love with one of her kittens, whom I named Ender, so I gained two cats. Serenity's still pretty meek around other people, but she does enjoy screaming at me for food 22 hours of the day. Ender looks absolutely nothing like her mom: Serenity's a short-haired gray tabby, Ender's solid black and long-haired, and definitely part Maine Coon; Ender's also twice the size of her mom.

Felix is the lone survivor of a litter of feral kittens I took in; the rest all had FIP and as a result, I got my heart broken and know way more about that disease than most people [but that should help me in vet school!]. Felix, named after the liquid luck potion in Harry Potter, truly was lucky to survive. She was supposed to eventually be put up for adoption but since I was focusing on trying to save her brothers, I didn't spend much time socializing her so it took a long time for her to be considered non-feral [and by then, after losing her brothers, I was so protective of her that I couldn't bear to part with her]. As it is, she's still extremely human-shy, she loves my cats and allows me to handle her but if anyone else comes over, she's immediately in one of her many hiding spots and won't come out until they leave. She's a /slightly/ smaller version of Ender, a black long-haired Maine Coon mix, to the point where I get them mixed up sometimes or have to spend more than a few moments telling who's who.

Elijah is a long-haired gray tabby kitten I found in my shed about three weeks after moving into this house last summer. He was also only about three weeks old, so I like to think that his mama was offering me a housewarming present. ;) [His mother, by the way, was a stray that I would feed... until the neighbors across the street took her in at the end of summer.] He's adorable and playful and loves to cuddle, and he gets along with all the cats [even Ginny, and she notoriously hates kittens]. He's a cute little fluff ball but he's picked up a few "bad habits" from Avocado, whom he follows around all day and constantly tries to imitate.

So, that's my clan. Moral of the story: don't get involved in rescuing cats if you're not prepared to possibly get stuck with a couple. ;) But I love them all, they all love each other [even if Ginny is reluctant to admit it], and we're very happy with our family. Also, I should mention that each cat came over for affection as I was writing about them. They even know when they're being *typed* about!

Challenge yourself every day to do better and be better.

My partner and I have four cats:

Trouble, a black-and-white shorthair male
Pickles, medium-length black fur with a white spot on his chest
Van der Rohe, a calico shorthair
Edo-Chan, a snow tiger siamese female

They all look very different and have distinct personalities. The crazy part is that they all came from the same litter. We found them where they had been dumped next to a bike path in a pet cemetery (isn't that just sick?). They were in pretty bad shape when we found them - half-starved, infected with parasites, and one had been hit by a car (broken back leg and missing half his tail). We took them to the vet immediately and he said he guessed that they were about a month old. Now they are a little over a year old and all are happy and healthy members of the family. We wouldn't trade them for the world.

(and yes, I even set my SP username after the name of one of my cats)

I have five...accumulated over the years and out of the goodness of my heart...Cirrus (formerly my ex-husband's cat, who I rescued from a life of abuse, along with myself), Saint (an ocicat, we believe, found out at St. Jude's Ranch for Children by Canyon Lake, rescued from being an outdoor cat with no claws - yes, someone neutered him and declawed him and then left him outside!!!), Luna (my most recent acquisition, just last year, who is a lovely 9 years old this year...she is a pure-bred Tonkinese that someone was trying to get rid of), and Puss and Boots (my twin fluffballs of 5 years, whom I procured on a blind date...had a nice dinner, and kittens!).

Pastorjo, I hope your cats get to where they can sleep together. Mine are all over the place. A few are just loners and don't want another cat around but want to be petted lots. I have one that does not like people but loves any cats attention. After 5 years and feeding her where ever she is I can finally pet her. Did pick her up once and she did not fight and that was to get her to safety so maybe she knew. She also got into the basement one time and took over a week to get her out since she would not come to a human and I do not let the cats down there. Scary time for me and I am sure her. Ahhh the stories of life with cats!!

ok...so now I know over 100 is in the 'hoarding' zone. emoticon

We have just two...Hilary, who has been w/us 5 years, found abandoned as a kitten in an apartment window well with her brother and sister. We found the sister a home and had her brother, Hanson - a lover, dumber than could be though - until he died in August from a urinary tract infection. Broke my heart...should have taken him to the vet. First symptoms Sat, dead by Sunday evening.

For my Sept birthday, we got a 'free' kitten we named Oliver from the county animal shelter...after shots and neutering he's cost close to $500 - yeah, we could have gotten a reduced rate for neutering, but that was only about $65 and he only had 1 testicle drop so the vet cut him open and rutted around for the other...wasn't one. Olie just got his stitches out Friday.

We thought Hilary was lonely and would 'mother' a kitten though she was spayed and never had kittens. Hah! She is getting used to Olie, now sits w/in inches of him...no sleeping together yet though...and not sure if their play is really play.

My husband is allergic to cats, so he takes allergy meds and keeps me limited to a 2 cat household....I'd take more, or foster kittens, if I could.
