My Maine Coon is a rescue. I was told that she is small for a Maine Coon. She was named Peaches because she has peach colored spots mixed with the stripes. Before we got to the car, her name became Juneau.

I WILL have to go to a cat show!

I love cat shows, too. Peshtigo (the cat in my avatar) is a Maine Coon, and I showed him for a while (haven't lately, because he's kinda small for a Maine Coon :( ).

If you like the shows, some have a "household pet" category, where you can show non-pedigreed cats. They usually must be neutered, and have all their claws.

What I loved about showing:

1. FANTASTIC cats!
2. You meet a lot of other people who like cats. :)
3. You can see cats really CAN be trained.
4. Higher-quality toys and such (most of what you get in pet stores is junk)
5. Showing off my baby! ;)

Think a moment, though: all the cats there are trained to be used to the noise, and be handled by strangers (the judges), etc. Whenever someone tells me cats can't be trained, I tell them to go to a cat show!

If you want to find out if there are more shows in your area, you can go to:

www.cfa.org/exhibitors/show-schedule
.h
tml
(CFA shows)

or

ticamembers.org/calendar/ (TICA shows)

Especially on this cat lover team! Thor writes his own blog on my page when he goes to the vet for his blood sugar test about every other week on Fridays. He gets lots of human and animal responses too. Pretty cool!

I've never been to a cat show either. June, I'd love to see a picture of your Maine Coon. Please take one and post it in your gallery for us to see!

I've never seen a cat show. I've only seen (on TV) dog shows.

I've never been to either a cat or dog show live. I would love to go some day! All of my cats are rescues. I have an ADORABLE Maine Coon named Juneau. I don't know if her personality is unique or a matter of breed, but I am just nuts about her! I would love to have more Maine Coons! (I will never turn down a cat, anyway!)

I WAS AT THAT SHOW!!!!! (I live about 2 miles away from the convention center) It was amazing!!! I wanted to take home all of the rescue cats- some looked so scared and others looked so sad....

The Maine Coons were gorgeous- I liked that a lot of the owners let you pet them and would talk about them... I got to pet my first hairless cat- I had never seen one in person!!! they are so soft, but it still is very disconcerting to look at them...

I had a great time at the show- I am glad you did too!!!

I love all cats. Thorough bred cats are beautiful and have all the characteristics of their breed.

The only thing that concerns me about them is that sometimes people adopt a pure bred cat and don't rescue one from the APL/pound. Those regular cats then get put to sleep, or get taken by animal experimenters.

Animal shows are fun though. I've only seen them on TV, but they're worth it to watch. I do love the Maine Coon.

Hey all.

Can't believe this weather continues to be in the 90's!! I have MS so can't be out in it AT ALL. If I do it's a run from the building door to a car already running a/c and back. And what's worse, I can't take my cat out. We usually go sit on the benches under the trees. I read and she sits next to me. She's too chicken to wander yet. I just bought her a pet stroller so that will be better---if it would just cool off.

I just went to a huge cat show in Somerset, NJ. There were people from everywhere in the US. It was just so much fun and well worth the trip. Beautiful breeds that seemed flawless. I wanted one of each. LOLOL We talked to several breeders and got more information about the Savannahs and the other breeds that are not allowed. They are still considered on the wild side. (My friend has one and she says he's a very sweet boy. But she can see there's a wild element especially by how the other cats act. Hissing and fissing. She also has a spotted domestic with SIX TOES A FOOT!! 24 toes! LOL)
SO ANYWAY the Maine Coon was the favorite at the show. There were 6 arenas of judging so it was hard to see them all. One gentleman explained the breed with a little amusement. I was amazed at how they could stretch the cat out and the cat didn't care in the least. I saw one that could have been 4' front toes to back toes.

I hope everyone has had a chance to go to a cat show. So hard to see everything - lots of vendors, breeders, judging not to mention the huge section when you enter the center that have all the agencies offering cat adoptions, especially kittens. My state's SPCA was there with kittens. Yes--they have a whole section for the kitten explosion at our SPCA!! Mostly black or black/white and tiger stripe. BUT we all know that EACH CAT has its own personality.
