I went to the Spark People Convention in San Diego on May 2 and it was really great!
I met some of the coaches and the Spark Guy, Chris Downie, referred to hereafter as the Spark Team.
There were about 150 of us Spark People there. The Spark Team gave some lectures, we did some group walks/runs and stretching.
The Spark Team people really are as nice as you would think they are from what you see of them around this website.
They also talked about the book that is going to be published in December. Right now it is titled The Spark and I would guess about 40% of it has been through the final edit process.
There were five Spark People who presented their success story. The nice thing about the five people the Spark Team chose was that not all of them have reached their final goal. Some of them still have a way to go, but all of them indicated that regardless of where they are in their process they are going to continue with the lifestyle they have adopted that has led them to such a terrific change for the better.
Also, Chris Downie has a goal of Spark People in a local region starting a Spark Chapter with organized events. I met with the person who heads the San Diego "Chapter" and it sounds like she has organized several events, things like a day hike, bowling, playing in the park, etc. She stresses that her events always allow for people with different levels of physical abilities to participate.
Finally, there is a National Spark Day and for those of us who attended the conference, we have been challenged to get local people to attend an event on that day or that weekend. I don't remember what the date is, I'll post it under a separate topic, but the Spark Team suggested that people like you and me discuss with our team leader, in this case Namastemamma, ideas for an event and then plan to have it happen.
