If anyone is interested, my son's High School is doing a 5K fundraiser on March 16 7AM.
It will be at Sonoma State University. $25 includes a t-shirt and breakfast.
Unfortunately I will not be able to make it as it conflicts with a scouting event, but message me in sparkmail with an email address and I will send you the flyer. I don't think I can send attachments through sparkmail.

Just a thought. Is anyone interested in possibly getting a weekly hike together for this spring and summer months. If that's too often, maybe once per month. We could possibly hook up with the Landpaths (Sonoma County Group - They're online) or do our own. I'll keep checking here for interest.

There can be fundraising involved, my understanding is people can register as an individual or as a team. Here's the link for more info and they have a phone number & email as well

What are the other details? It sounds interesting to me. Do you have to sign up or join a team? Is there fundraising involved?

Anyone planning to participate in the Amer. Heart Assoc. walk on Sept 9th? Maybe we could wear Spark People t-shirts, hats, etc? Here's some info from one of the local coordinators for the Amer. Heart Assoc. office:
The Santa Rosa Heart Walk will be on Sunday, September 9th at Howarth Park in Santa Rosa. The route is a 5 mile around Spring Lake but we also have a 1 and 3 mile route options. Most people walk the route but we do have many runners and joggers (but we don’t time runners).

Anyone interested in planning a meetup sometime in June? I'd love to actually meet some live bodies - maybe take a walk at Spring Lake, the Joe Rodata Trail (a pre-identified portion of it), or another path for walking? Just to get started?

Note: I just joined Planet Fitness in Rohnert Park last night and went to my first workout in I don't know how many years (shoulders are a little sore, but otherwise it was okay)
Any interest in a weekly meetup there? I will try and be there every Tues and Fri about 6:00 - 7:00PM
Exceptions will be posted on this board, like this Fri I prob won't make it as I'm leaving 4:30 AM Sat morning to take a bunch of scouts skiing (and I will get plenty of exercise there) and next Tues I have plans so I will go Monday instead. But normally it will be Tues and Fri

Wow, quiet group? I know my groups go through phases.
Anyone in Northwest Santa Rosa (near Piner High-ish) looking for a walking buddy? I can't seem to get motivated to go out on the weekends like I used to. I'd love a walking buddy.

Apologies to anyone who tried to do this meetup - I drove up to the parking lot at 2:55 and couldn't find a parking spot.
By the time I drove down, parked on the street and walked back up it was 3:15, and since it was last minute, no one said they were coming, no one knows what each other looks like, I figured I was on my own.
Took a 2 hour stroll around the lake and found 3 geocaches along the way. Beautiful day!

Hey Santa Rosa Sparkers!
Seems like I'm not the only one who has been kinda quite on Spark these days. I am focused on getting re-involved with Spark, and love seeing the local group doing the same. Would love to hear about any upcoming gatherings -- could be fun!! I'm in Petaluma.

Yes this team was on life support for some time, but I'd like to resurrect it if possible....
Last minute suggestion: I will be at Howarth Park upper parking lot tomorrow at 3:00 PM for a walk around spring lake (and possible geocaching if interested) Anyone showing up will be welcome..
(note: I said walk, not jog, run or any other high impact exercise)

I think it would be great if we gathered as a group for my Zumba class. If you have tried it, then you know how much fun it can be! If you haven't, believe me, you'll love it!
Let's face it, most people don't like to exercise, but if you could find a workout that doesn't feel like exercise, then you'll stick with it!
The class is Saturday mornings at 9am in the Larkfield area!
Also, if we join as a group, we'll be held accountable to show up by the others.
Let's Rally to help each other reach our goals!!!

I like the idea of Wed. night market. We could meet in the grassy area, bring an appetizer (with copies of the recipe), get to know each other and then buy some fresh veggies. I would love to meet other Spark People.

OK, I am on a roll here...Thursday nights concerts on the Windsor town green (6-8PM) would be a fun way to get together, maybe have a picnic and if the mood strikes, do a little dancing. I like blues so I hope to be going July 30th to see Tommy Castro and August 30th to see The Soulshine Blues Band. I will be out of town July 23rd but Tom Rigney & Flambeau is really good (cajun/zydeco). Can you tell I love to go hear live music?

Another idea I have came from the City of Santa Rosa City Manager Weekly Message and there was a mention of the Levi Leipheimer’s King Ridge GranFondo cycling event, Saturday, October 3rd. I am not sure that I can do this event in terms of the length of it, I was thinking the 36 mile (PiccoloFondo - 36 miles on a beautiful course that passes vineyards and includes a medium climb that takes you into the gorgeous redwood forests of Occidental. The PiccoloFondo riders will be treated to a wonderful brunch by Forget Me Not Farm after their ride at the Finley Center). If I am not up to that length of a ride I am thinking of volunteering. Of course, it's over 2 months away so it some sparkpeople wanted to train together, we could get ready together. It's just an idea. For information the website is www.levisgranfondo.com

Sorry that I got into this discussion so late in the game. It looks like there may be a issue with everyone getting together at one time. I would like to put out there that maybe we should just try to plan activities and we can confirm if we can attend. I know it would be better to have us all together but that might not be realistic. Along the fair idea, if you like blues music you should check out the blues festival, Saturday, August 1st from 2-9PM. It's good dancing music and if you dance, you can eat! I love the pesto spaghetti too.

At this point, shall we just take into considerationn the dates that some people have said they CAN'T make it and pick a date? and plan to show up for just a walk at the park? Just a simple day to meet and laugh and burn a few calories together?

...b b bbbbut, my M.O. for the fair has always been to go once and splurge! I get a huge plate of pesto spaghetti, and an chocolate dipped vanilla ice cream bar!!! Wah! Ok...no problem cutting the amount of spaghetti in 1/2, but it's still my anticipated splurge!
I don't think 'healthy' is really what they have in mind when they rent out spaces at the fair. Though, wouldn't it be a nice change of pace!
It'll be interesting to look at the fair through 'Spark'ling eyes this year.

Back to Spark People for another try (my third!). Hoping that with a lighter schedule the next couple of months, I can get more involved.
Just a thought about possible get togethers. It might be fun to meet at the Wednesday night market in Santa Rosa and look for healthy food choices. Also might be interesting to do some sort of outing to the Fair. (Now THAT would be a challenge to find healthy food choices there!)

Heck yeah, I think that would be incredibly AWESOME!!
But......
I will be out of state June 17th - June 29th.....is there any way to pick a date that would not be in that range?
I would LOVE to come to this and help out any way needed...
I think this would be a great way to encourage our new livestyles and habits by meeting local people who all have one big common interest - our health!
Also, I think it would be cool to try to get together locally on a quarterly basis, think that would be a great local motivator!! I know I would be totally up for it - hopefully many others will jump on board too!!
Thanks ladies for taking the time to throw this out there for us!

How about some Sonoma County Fun????
The first SparkPeople convention is over, but the rallies are just beginning. What IS a Spark Rally? http://www.sparkpeople.com/resource/motivation_articles.asp?id=1229 For those of you who missed it, we've been called to Spread the SPARK in our own local communities!
CatherineKirby and I have communicated with each other and agree, this could be a blast. We'd like your help and suggestions for finding a way for Sonoma County Sparkers to meet each other, support one and other, and just celebrate our community and healthy lifestyle pursuits.
Let's put faces to our SparkNickNames!
A few initial ideas might be: Meeting for a walk in Howarth Park in Santa Rosa, possibly clad in our SparkWear. Perhaps followed by a "Bring your favorite SparkRecipe to Share" Potluck Picnic . We Need You and Your IDEAS!!!!!
We don't have a time frame planned out yet, though the SparkPeople suggested date of June 28th MIGHT be a bit soon. We welcome and need your feedback, suggestions, and volunteerism. We will start a Discussion Forum on our team page so that we can look at some ideas to see if we can work something out ASAP. Maybe we can do more than one over the Summer!
Help us to brainstorm, or should I say BrainSpark?
Let us know what you think!, login and post to the Discussion forum today! Let’s show the SparkPeople community the never ending Spark of the Sonoma County Team!
Thanks to all of us for inspiring and supporting each other!
Spread the Spark!

*** Below is the Healthy Lifestyle Blog that inspired this idea, Thanks Mary aka TLN-NOW for following up on this!***
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Excerpt from Your Healthy Lifestyle Blog: Kick Off Summer with the Show Your Spark Weekend
From now through the end of Summer, SparkPeople wants you to help "Spread the Spark" by taking pictures of yourselves in your SparkPeople apparel and going to SparkRallies in your area. Whether you are on vacation, strolling through your neighborhood, swimming at the local pool or getting fit outside, we want you to share your summer fun with us.
We've created a Spread the Spark Summer Team where you can post fun ideas and healthy summer activities. We’d also love to see pictures of you and your SparkFriends Spreading the Spark, so be sure to upload them in the Team! We may feature some of these photos on the dailySpark or elsewhere on the site (so you could become a Spark Celebrity)! SparkPeople is kicking off the Spread the Spark Summer with an official Show Your Spark" Weekend, Friday, June 26, 2009, to Sunday, June 28, 2009. SparkPeople members across the globe will wear their SparkPeople Gear and gather at SparkRallies. Join SparkPeople members across the country by hosting or attending a SparkRally this weekend show your SparkPeople pride. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
