Every Thanksgiving, there are hundreds of groups who get together early in the morning to burn off calories before "The Big Dinner" - these events are called Turkey Trots and the ones I've attended are tons of fun!!
This year some of my SparkFriends and I are going to participate in the 4th annual Plymouth Rock N' Run Thanksgiving Day Turkey Trot at beautiful Yorba Regional Park in Anaheim Hills on November 24th, 2011. I know this is short notice and probably not a good time for many people but I would love to have as many SparkPeople join us as possible - I apologize if this is a duplicate message but I'm posting on more than one OC group in hopes of reaching more active Orange County SparkPeople.
The Turkey Trot is structured as a Run/Walk event - I am not a runner so will be walking the 5k route. The 5k event starts at 8am, registration starts that day at 6:30am and I'll probably get there by 7am - if you want to run the 10k and meet up with us later, that event starts at 7:30am - there is also a 1k Kids Walk starting at 9am - and there will be loads of festivities throughout the morning.
The registration is open until November 20 at their website www.plymouthrocknrun.com
or you can register in person at A Runner's Zone in Anaheim Hills [corner of Santa Ana Canyon and Imperial Hwy, right off the 91 Fwy] during packet pick-up OR you can register the morning of the event. The days and times for in-person advance registration are:
a) Monday Nov. 21st 12:30 p.m. - 6:30 p.m.
b) Tuesday Nov. 22nd 12:30 p.m. - 6:30 p.m.
The proceeds from the registration fees are donated to the UC Irvine Spinal Cord Injury program - but if you just want to join us and do not want to or can't afford to pay the registration fees, please just come anyway and join in on the fun - without a 'bib number,' your time won't be counted and you won't be eligible for the drawings but you can still have a good time burning off calories, meeting some other Orange County SparkFriends and just enjoy yourself.
If you want more details about the event, where/when to park, how to find other Sparkers, etc, send me a SparkMail. Hope to meet you in person before too long!
