Yeah I'm kinda the same. I prefer support from afar for now. I'm still finding it a little hard to deal with support around me because the people around me aren't in my shoes and never have been. So it doesn't feel right to talk openly about what's happening in my world as far as weight loss goes.
Whereas on here I feel like people on here who are of a similar age and weight 'get it'. They get how exciting it is to be able to run 1km without stopping or whatever... They've been there, done that and know exactly how that feels. And there's a real comfort in that. A comfort that I can't get from my friends around me.

I've only seen 1 of the leaders chatting on here too... there's obviously people out there doing stuff... there's plenty of blogs on the team stream.... so where is everyone?

Yes it would be nice to have more join in a challenge... I can tell from the "Team Stream" we're not the only ones in this group still active on Spark... I dunno, maybe it's a case of being absorbed in oneself still to look around for comraderie. I have been like that for ages, it's only just recently I've started with the team boards... in any team. I don't know about you but I feel more at home in a group filled with people my age and (kinda) weight, than with say a locality group, which could have someone who lives around the corner in it, but they could be a stick thin fitness nut that may not be much use in helping out sometimes. *shrug*

I think 10/14 days is pretty good considering you weren't feeling well during that time. It's pretty hard to stay motivated when under the weather. AND! You and I seemed to be the only ones doing it sooo that makes us winners from the start.
Another positive is that some of those days you did far more than 20 mins exercise in that day which is super awesome!

I feel like I failed minorly (instead of majorly!) with this challenge!

Friday, I had a day off exercising, and caring about exercising. It was my birthday and I just didn't want a care in the world. I stayed at home and did nothing much ALL day. Didn't even go out to dinner when it was suggested. I just blobbed. (Didn't help that I was knacked from the 'hike' on Thursday).

Saturday was my brothers birthday party. All the exercise I did with that was climb down/up his cliff (a drop of about 12 meters over a distance of 3 meters) to the party tent and walk around the paddock taking photos. I had intended to do more, but the weather was pretty crap, and the party time took up more time than I was expecting.

Sunday I didn't feel too good (even though I watched what I ate at the bbq!) and again suceeded at doing nothing.

So that was something like 10/14 days success in the 20 minute challenge. Here was I thinking it was going to be an easy one! Tell you what though, I'm almost gagging for hockey season to start back up for the man, that'll be at least every other Sunday out at the grounds pacing it up watching him play - most days it's not raining so bad I can't go round and round the turf! Granted, the only other people who do that are kids on their scooters and bikes, but who cares!

Tuesday was 2 hours at the gym, and a bunch of walking around town.
Wednesday was with the trainer at the gym, walking there and back.
Thursday was a walk to the (apparent) windiest point in NZ for 2010, Baring Head. 4.4km over loose gravel and stones, heading into the wind on the way to the headland, made it a hard slog! It was about 90 minutes round trip taking into consideration stopping for lunch.

Sorry to hear that emotionally things aren't good. A work out will help that to some degree. I like having that time to myself to push my body but also just focus on myself for a bit. I hop eyou feel better soon!

Today's workout was a 45 min walk. It's so nice n sunny here today

Sunday managed 25 minutes around the mall. Yesterday I ventured back to look at clothes without being hampered by the man and did a longer 30 minute circuit before ducking into any shops. Yesterday was a really crap day emotionally, and I'm feeling it today, really tired and not wanting to trek all the way into town to go to the gym even though I know I need to! I've got to go in anyway to meet up with a friend who is determined to make good of part of what set me off yesterday. And then have a beer. I haven't had one of those since lunch New Years Eve. So I've got to earn it methinks.

Thank you :) I beat all my colleagues in the swim (I was only doing the swim leg) so I'm really happy with that :)

I went for a walk to the shops and back on Saturday which was about 25mins. Sunday I did the swim (9min swim) and went for a walk last night for 30 mins.

This morning I went to the gym and did a 40 min workout. I think I'm going for a walk with my friend tonight which brings me up to date.

Looks like we're the only ones doing the challenge.... nonetheless you're doing great!

Good luck for the Tri tomorrow!

Friday I got to the gym, but I didn't make all my goals, but I guess that's fair enough after the Thursday I had.

Today I walked to my all day lecture which took me just over half an hour, and by the time it finished it was persisting down with rain and I was unprepared so I caught the bus back to the train and got a lift.

Tomorrow will be my challenge. I am mentally and physically tired and I'm going to want to laze about all day. If the rain stays, I might suggest a trip to the mall for some indoor walking and window shopping!

I think I'll stay away from the spin class a little longer - a guy died of a heart attack in Porirua City Fitness in the middle of spin class, but they're putting a big spin (sorry!) on the article of not to let it put people off exercising, but that it was going to happen, but he put it off just somewhat by going to the gym.

Yesterday was a failure. The tummy problems I'd been ignoring earlier in the week came to a head and brought a migraine with it. Most disgusting day I've had in a long time. I couldn't even get myself back up stairs to get back to bed, I had to wait for Mr Man to wake up and help me up.

Today I'm not feeling as bad, but I'm not feeling the best. I'm at work, and going to see what the next hour brings and I may pop off to the gym for a leisurely work out. If not, I've done some walking today already so no big loss.

Hope everyone else is doing better than I!

Wow you're a machine! Yesterday's workout looks awesome! I bet you slept well after that!

Today (Thursday) I had my session with kate. 30 min circuit training with personal trainer.

Any other people out there doing this? I'd love to see what you've been up to.

The spin room in my gym gives me nightmares. But knowing my luck it'll be something I do in the future, but I'd have to get there early to hide in the back :P I struggle to stay on the normal cardio bikes for longer than 20 minutes if I want to still feel below my waist.

This morning I have done:

Walked 1.4km - 16minutes
Walked 4.23km - 53mins
Personal Trainer session at the Gym for 30mins
Walked 1.25km - 20min (can you tell I was tired then???)

I dearly want to walk home the long way around the harbour again today, but I have to pick up my enrolment form for my upcoming course, which will be about a 1.35km route back to the train. And I'm going to try my hardest not to beg for a ride at the other end! Ideally, I should have another walk around the block once I get home, to reach my step goal for the month (thanks to slacking off big time on the weekend!)

Hey, I think it's great that you made time for it.

Yesterday, I simply walked to and from class (about fifteen minutes each way), and did one of the ten minute sparkpeople workouts.

Today I started with the Day 4 of the sparkpeople Bootcamp video, and I'm going to dance class tonight. I haven't been in a week, so I'm pretty excited to get my salsa on. :)

So much for going hard today at the gym to make up for yesterday. I got to work early in anticipation of heading off for a workout at about 11am, but got told what I thought I had till 4:30pm tomorrow to do, I have to do before home time tonight. So after being here 11 hours with about half an hour break, I'm heading home. And I went the cheats way to get it done, meaning I've got a busy day ahead tomorrow too, but at least gym occurs BEFORE work on Wednesdays :)

So far today I've walked 33 minutes (2.7km - but I have to stop for cars all the time :P) as part of my commute to work. Yeah, I count my commute because I don't have to walk more than 100m a day if I wanted to with bus stops REALLY close by work and home. I'm going to walk the 2km way to the train along the waterfront(instead of 1.3km) tonight to make up for no gym (and because it's so nice out!), and the usual 1.4km after the train. [Edit: I didn't do the last 1.4km as I had one of those 12 hour type tummy bugs strike and I needed a toilet STAT!]

Because of the way the train timetable is, tomorrow before the 30 minutes at the gym I have time to get in about a 40 minute walk, first thing in the morning when it's fresh and quiet and not many about along the waterfront... I love Wednesdays :)

Anyone else out there participating in the challenge? Love to hear from you!

It's now Tuesday... My workout this morning was 40 mins at the gym combined cardio and strength training.

I didn't get my walk around the block in :( But instead I did a lot of pacing around the lounge and up and down the stairs many more times than necessary. I put on a load of washing, which I could've carried down the stairs in one go, but I split it into four. Same carrying it back upstairs. Same for putting it away, did a quarter, paced the bedroom twice, came back downstairs, paced the lounge and kitchen twice, then back up, repeat! My partner said I was driving him dizzy and when I explained he suggested I go to the dairy to get him his cigs (it's close enough to not get too wet going there and back)
So I think if I didn't quite make 20 minutes, I did more than I HAD to, if I was made to be stuck inside all day :P But poor effort anyway, I should've braved the rain more. Will make sure I pay for it tomorrow, extra gym time for being so naughty (hahah I LOVE that kind of punishment!!)

Aaaagh! It's Monday already and because it's a day off work and the weather is CRAP I'm sooooo discouraged to get outside. I'm going to check the rain at about lunch time, and if it's eased a bit, I think I'll brave it enough for a walk around the block, which is pretty much exactly 20 minutes.
Hope ya'll have better luck at getting your 20minutes in!

I think we all do XRAYGRL2004!
How about a 14 day challenge. Lets commit to doing a minimum of 20 minutes exercise, every day for 14 days.
Let's start on Monday next week (24/01/11) which gives us all time to plan what we're gonna do and how we're gonna fit it into our schedules.
Come back here each day to post what you've done.
By doing that we are giving each other ideas for exercise options and can help each other along.
What do you think?
