Weigh in day

Week 4(05/20 - 05/26) 295 I gained 4lbs.

This has been a HORRIBLE week for me and, like a true emotional eater, I have been using food as a crutch. I've also stopped exercising, stopped using my food journal, and stopped logging in to SP. I know I need to get back on track but, I feel so overwhelmed that I can't seem to do anything - except eat.

Starting Weight for this challenge: 125 kg (275 lbs)
Week 1: 125.2 kg (275.4 lbs)
Week 2: 125.2 kg (275.4 lbs)
Week 3: 125.2 kg (275.4 lbs)

No change in my weight yet again. I don't know what is going on. I haven't been able to do much in the way of exercise but maybe need to change my foods around again too. I see the dietitian again this week so will ask her for some advice.

QUESTION OF THE DAY - FRIDAY:

How do you plan to stay on track with eating well and exercise this weekend?

I pretty well eat exactly the same food every day of the week so the food side is easy. I will attempt to do some exercises through the weekend but that usually depends on the level of pain I am in as to whether I exercise (apart from the normal day to day chores).

As for last weeks Friday challenge I did manage to do the knee exercises daily. I didn't always do them at each of my 6 meals per day but did do them several times daily.

Have a good weekend people.

Last Friday's challenge I said I would work on eating 4 stalks of celery a day, somehow. I did well until Wednesday and Thursday. I did get 1 stalk in on both of those days. I bought more at the grocery today.

Tomorrow is going to be easy since DH is helping at the Franciscan friary and I can get my WATP and housework done. Menu is planned with turkey burgers, salads, veggies. We will have the grandkids in the evening. Sunday is up in the air as DH wants to go on a date. I have movie passes we might use. Suppose to be nice we could walk the trail by where I work. It goes through a protected wetland.

MINI-CHALLENGE - FRIDAY:

Okay, time to check in with our one-week challenge from last Friday! How did everyone do on their 7-day streak?

My goal was to journal every day for one week, and I have done it! A couple of the days were quite brief entries, but I did take the time before bed each night to write a little bit about my day. Really helped to put my days into perspective, and kept me on track emotionally this week.

QUESTION OF THE DAY - FRIDAY:

How do you plan to stay on track with eating well and exercise this weekend?

I'm going to be travelling and then at home with family, which is always tough to stay on track. I'm going to make sure I walk some every day, and get enough water. I realize I won't have full control over WHAT I eat, but I will make choices around how much I eat, and what choices I make of what is served.

Loved reading all the advice - some really good things to hold in mind.

I'm going to post QOTD and mini-challenge for Friday early tonight, as I'm leaving at 4am to travel 8 hours to spend the long weekend with my parents and family. I've been homesick, so I'm very excited for this visit!!

Due to being far away and busy with family, I won't be in the nest much until Wednesday. I will try to post a QOTD and mini-challenge for each day Mon-Fri, still.

Have a great long-weekend, everyone!

QUESTION OF THE DAY - THURSDAY:

What gym/workout equipment do you have at home? And... which do you use on a regular basis?

Unfortunately I don't have any equipment at the moment. I am considering buying an exercise bike as I can't walk far and the muscles around my knees have deteriorated heaps so I need to rebuild these before I can consider my knee replacements.

I do however had a chair that I sit on to do chair exercises and I try to do that when I can.

Have a good weekend people. I am hoping I have managed to lose some weight this week.

I have a few things: a treadmill, resistance bands, and Wii fit, and a few DVDs. To tell the truth, I haven't used any of them in a while. I prefer the Zumba classes when I get there, and I do a fair amount of wheelchair pushing. It's almost the same exertion as lawn mower pushing, so I feel pretty good that I spend 20 minutes twice a day doing that.

QUESTION OF THE DAY - THURSDAY:

What gym/workout equipment do you have at home? Which do you use on a regular basis?

I have a treadmill, various weights, and bands. I use the weights on a regular basis. They are easy to work with while watching TV.

As for Wednesday's Question. I don't know who told me or where I heard it. "Take one day at a time for that's all you may have." I try hard not to drag yesterday's problems and failures with me and I don't fret about what MAY happen tomorrow. Like Dee - enjoy the journey.

I have a stationary bike, resistance bands, exercise ball, hand weights, Walk Away the Pounds DVDs, adjustable step (for step aerobics). Of all of these things, I use the bike and resistance bands the most. I do really like the WATP DVDs as well - especially during the winter when I can't get outside to walk.

This is going to sound a little silly because the advice wasn't actually given to me. Instead, it was something a character in a movie said. It has stuck with me, though, and it's something I remind my DD of every now and then, as she is going through those crazy teen years.

My mother gave so much wise advise as I grew up.
*Don't ask the question if you do not want to know the answer.
*You will be as happy as you make up your mind to be.
*You can be 1000 miles apart and still close or you can be in the same room and be a world apart

Glad the sleep challenge is for tonight. The night my son is on Dialysis, it is virtually impssible to get in 7 hours sleep.

QUESTION OF THE DAY - MONDAY:

What are you reading right now? Any recommends for summer reading?

Sorry I am not really a reader. I had a teacher in Grade 7 hit me over the knuckles with the yard stick because I went back to my desk and started to read after having my work marked and being told I could do anything I want. I really haven't read much since then, and that was many, many years ago.

MINI-CHALLENGE - MONDAY:

If you're like me, sometimes you can get caught in the past or future, and forget to really appreciate the present. Today's challenge is practicing gratitude. List 3 things you are grateful for today:

1. My Family
2. My relatively good health
3. Good, honest friends

QUESTION OF THE DAY - TUESDAY:

What are 3 items you purchase each time you buy groceries?

Every week all year round regardless of the weather I buy Tomatoes, Lettuce and Cucumbers.

MINI-CHALLENGE - TUESDAY:

Get an "extra" unplanned walk in today. Maybe that means a walk on your lunch break, or parking as far as possible from the mall doors and walking, or walking to talk to your co-worker instead of interoffice email... Find a way to squeeze in that extra activity.

I am not able to walk much at all but when I went to the doctors there were no parking spaces so I had to park down the street and walk to and from the doctor. I nearly fell twice (mainly as my pride won't let me use a walking stick, my specialist wants me to use a frame....no way).

MINI-CHALLENGE - WEDNESDAY:

I've read several articles recently which discuss the importance and impact of sleep on overall health in general and weight loss in particular. It is such a powerful activity for repairing and restoring our entire body. And rest is so good for our brain and emotions, as well.

Today's challenge is to make sure you aim to get at least 7-8 hours of sleep tonight. Perhaps that means that you forego a TV show, or you leave a few dirty dishes in the sink this evening... Make sleep a priority, at least for tonight!

QUESTION OF THE DAY - WEDNESDAY:

What's the best piece of advice you have ever received?

One of my sisters told me, "Single is not the worst thing to be. Some of the most unhappy, loneliest people in the world are married. Be true to yourself and stay single until you find someone who will respect you, cherish you, and allow you to be 100% yourself."

Seeing many of my friends' marriages, I am SO SO glad I listened to my sister and waited a little longer for Kyle. By the time we met, I knew who I was and he was solid in himself too ... and we have the gift of COMPLEMENTING one another's lives, rather than trying to COMPLETE someone who feels inadequate on their own.

Weekly weigh-in

Last week-258lbs
This week-253 lbs emoticon

QOTD - Three things I buy on every trip to the grocery store are:
1. Fresh veggies, usually cucumbers, carrots, and celery
2. Cheese, usually light string cheese (with wheat thins or triscuits makes a great snack!)
3. Food and treats for dog and cats!

Funny thing abut the challenge is, I already went for my walk today, but right afterwards, I was thinking to myself that I'm ready to step it up a little and add another 1/2 mile or mile, so I was already thinking about going out again this evening! Guess I'll have to now!!! lol

Oh Joann!!- Sorry to hear about all that stuff going on for you. Don't fight the sleepies, though, your body is obviously craving rest and you need to give it. Take care.

Things I am grateful for:
1 My God
2. My family
3. That I have a good job
All these make me feel valued.

QUESTION OF THE DAY - MONDAY:

What are you reading right now? Any recommends for summer reading?

Right now I’m reading “Heat Wave”. Mom-in-law was giving away books and since I watch “Castle” might as well read the books. I am waiting for the new Charlaine Harris book in the Sookie Stackhouse (True Blood) series to come out this summer. I

MINI-CHALLENGE - MONDAY:

If you're like me, sometimes you can get caught in the past or future, and forget to really appreciate the present. Today's challenge is practicing gratitude. List 3 things you are grateful for today:

1. The sunshine driving home from Indianapolis
2. Taking the time to stop in Anderson for some fun before heading on home. We have always driven by the casino in Anderson for years and never stopped. I suggested to sis to stop this time to check it out.
3. Just sitting on the coach talking to DH and watching something funny on TV.

QUESTION OF THE DAY - TUESDAY:

What are 3 items you purchase each time you buy groceries?
1. Lettuce or cabbage
2. Celery
3. Chicken

The Life Celebration for Roger was fun. That is what he wanted and everyone had good memories. Mom is literally throwing things away to get rid of Roger's extra stuff. Not sure what is happening, but at least she is donating and the college and writing colleagues are coming for his papers and books. I was afraid she'd just throw important research in the trash. Roger co-wrote many psychology books and papers. Probably somewhere in there is an explanation as to why mom is acting like this LOL. Off to clean and getting in my extra walking. Have a good day.

Joann so glad to hear from you. Do take care of yourself.

I have just finished "The Hunger Games" and the two sequels. It reminded me of "lord of the Flies". While there is violence, I did not perceive that as the main plot but more of focus on overcoming odds. I rather liked the stories and will probably read them again.

3 things I appreciate today

*my deep faith

Just a quick post here, as I have some other urgent matters to attend to.

QOTD (Monday, 5/14): I'm currently reading "The Story," which is the continuous story of the Bible written as a chronologically ordered narrative, most of the text coming directly from the NIV version of the Bible, with some interjection of text to form transitions. I've found it to be such an awesome book to read...I started last Tuesday and I just made it to the ascension of Jesus. Only a few chapters to go. If anyone has attempted to read the Bible from beginning to end, but was bogged down and discouraged with some of the more "boring" parts such as Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy, consider giving this a try. I'm so excited about the possibilities for using this book for Bible studies. We'll see where God leads me on this.

Now just a bit to fill you in on my latest adventures and those soon to come. In January I had core decompression surgery on my right hip to correct a condition called avascular necrosis. I spent a few days in the hospital, followed by a month in a nursing home for rehab, followed by several more months of home health care which continues to this day. Just two days after my surgery I was pain free in the right hip, and I remained that way until just recently. At my 12 week check-up I was cleared to "weight bearing as tolerated" status. I guess I got carried away and did too much, and I didn't tolerate it too well beginning the following week. I began having horrible groin pain, and it was feared that I may have damaged my pelvic bone by doing too much walking. X-rays showed that was not the case, however, and using my walker again for a couple of weeks provided enough rest that the pain has been absent now for about a week.

A few weeks ago I was having some right flank pain, which I suspected might be a kidney infection. Turns out it's my gall bladder that is causing that pain. CT scans and ultrasound studies show that my gall bladder is filled with gall stones, so I'm scheduled to have my gall bladder removed a week from Friday. It's a laproscopic procedure, so unless there are complications I'll be back home later that same day.

I see the orthopedic surgeon again a week from today, at which time we'll determine when I'll have the core decompression surgery on my left hip. I'm hoping to schedule it for mid- to late- June, so that I can be fully recovered by then end of the year.

I had part of my colon removed last July, so I have truly will have had "the year of the knife" by the time I get these next two procedures taken care of.

I don't know why I'm so darned sleepy! I slept for nearly 12 hours today, and then went back to sleep while sitting up watching tv. I think everything is catching up with me, right when I need to be busy getting prepared for my next big adventure away from home.

I will try to stay connected this week. I promise I'll do my best.

Hugs,
Joann

I'm so sorry to have deserted my team for the past week. It's been a hum-dinger of a week, and I've either been on the go or sleeping through most of it. I'm working on the numbers for the week right now, and I'll get them posted in a few minutes.

Thank you to Arlene for starting the nest for the third week of the challenge.

I'll be right back, unless I fall asleep again.

Hugs,

I hope she's ok. I am ready to start a new week.
We finally had our family discussion Saturday evening and made 2 lists. One- things to dump/donate, and the other things to have on hand.
I also restarted the "Lord's Table" to readjust my focus. I still plan to check in here, but if I miss a day or two, don't worry- I am good.

I haven't seen a week 3 nest yet, so I thought I'd give us a place to land for the week. I will post the QOTD and mini-challenge a bit later, as I don't have time before I leave for work.

I haven't seen Joann for a few days. Has anyone heard from her?
