My new flip-flops!

Today is National Flip Flop Day.

People have been wearing flip-flops for thousands of years, with the earliest wearers being the Ancient Egyptians in 4000BC. Since then, the sandals have been worn throughout the world and have become a favourite for people enjoying a relaxing day at the beach or walking around in the sunshine.

Although flip-flops can be great to wear on a fun casual day out, just be careful not to wear them for too long – the lack of support in flip-flops and their thin soles can lead to sore or injured feet!

As you may or may not be able to see in the pic, all of my flip-flops have a shaped footbed providing some arch support.

To celebrate and help raise funds for Camp Sunshine, Tropical Smoothie Cafe will give away a 24-ounce Jetty Punch smoothie to everyone who wears flip flops to their local café between 2 and 7 p.m.

The brand hopes to raise awareness and match last year's fund raising total of $1 million through donations. The effort is to help Camp Sunshine, the Maine-based organization that is devoted to providing a healthy, happy camp experience to children with life-threatening illnesses and their families.

You have a good attitude. All of us are going to slip at one point or another, and we need to just accept what's done and get back on track. Continue to give yourself credit for the 10 lbs you have lost and focus on why you want to lose weight to help you stay on track.

Hello,

Got a little crazy with pizza last night, but I'm trying not to let it undo all my progress and cause me to completely go off track. For now, it's just overeating on one meal, not a grazing or a binge. Any suggestions on how to refocus after a slip-up are appreciated.

In the meantime, I'm trying to concentrate on the fact that I've already lost 10 pounds. Here are some things that weigh ten pounds: a large bag of potatoes, a medium sized bowling ball, ten guinea pigs....

Hi there everyone, well I have had a few extra friend adds the last couple of days so I am thinking some of this team may be in there - still learning the SP names hehehe

Hope you are all having a good week, I am having a wee bit of drama on the family front but am proud of myself for keeping me first - something I have been working on this year

Sandra I don't think I could do it, I have no problem with needles etc but watching myself try to do something I know is going to "hurt" me ... maybe if I knew I had to do it for the greater good of myself I would overcome it but I think it is instinctive to not be able to hurt ourselves

Casey----if you go to a medical supply store, they measure the calf and that is how they determine size. I was measured at the medical supply store and bought one pair of the 30-40 mm hg. They were about $60 there. I have been able to purchase the same exact stocking on-line for $30 to $50 -- I just needed to know my size.

Thanks, Romantilly. I have worn compression stockings before but have trouble getting ones that fit. My calves are very large and the swelling make them even larger. I am looking for oversized stockings now.

I have to crow. I have gone 10 days without eating at a fast food restaurant. I used to eat breakfast every day and some days lunch. This is a big accomplishment for me. Yea!!!

Hope everyone has a great week. I'm off to a good start.

This is the day the Lord hath made. I will rejoice and be glad in it.

Hi everyone, I recently left a few inactive teams and joined this one - I am hoping to make some SP friends who are in a similar part of their journey. Some days I feel like I am still at the start line some days I think I am doing well I would like more of those days where I am feeling like "I've got this"

I am in The BLC and have just completed my third round and love it. Although my progress has been slow I love the challenges and the family I have found there but I am greedy and want my SP family to grow

Hoping to pop in regularly and "chat"

Deb

I have lymphedema in my left lower leg and have compression hose to wear. I wear them all the time when I am at work or even exercise like walking. You can buy them at any medical supply or on -line. They cost a bit - but I don't have hardly any swelling when I wear them. I started with one pair - bought from the medical supply place so that I could get the right size and compression strength then but 2 more pair on line since they were a bit cheaper that way. I wear the very strong compression - 30 -40 mm mercury. You can buy cheaper ones with less compression at WalMart but I noticed they did not fit as well or work as well. I did not like them at all. But it could be a good start if that is what you want to try before spending more money.

Any one have any words of wisdom regarding swelling in feet and ankles. I have arthritis and have constant swelling. I had a knee replacement 11 months and the swelling is constant now. I wear flip flops because I can't get shoes on. I sometimes have to miss going to the gym because I can't get sneakers on. I keep my feet propped up at home, but have to sit at a desk at work.

This is the day the Lord hath made. I will rejoice and be glad in it.

I don't remember if we ever had a specific name for it back when I started and was 265. I think I might have just referred to it as twoville, but I honestly don't recall. Perhaps you could come up with a catchy name or something creative???

Quick question. I know when you get into the 100's your in onderland. What do you call it when you get into the 200's? I'm getting close and I want to know what the nickname will be! Hopefully it's not the terrible two's. The terrific twos? I know most people wouldn't be excited to weigh 299lbs but I will be excited, Can't wait.

Thanks for the reminder about the videos, Romantilly. I'd love to do some classes at the gym, but am wondering if I could last for a whole class right now. The videos are probably a good way to work on strength and stamina at home first.

Thanks, Romantilly.

Yesterday my sister in law asked me if I want to do this "fit for summer" challenge at her gym with her. I am sure it's meant for girls who want to be in bathing suits, but am considering it. Will depend mostly on $$$$$.

Worried it will be too hard for me (it's a Boot Camp place) but I need to begin someplace. emoticon

I pop in and out of this board/Spark. Hi again.

Newly disgusted with myself (for the billionth time) after having to find a dress for a wedding and then being caught in the photos... bigger than I've ever been, seriously horrible looking, really really embarrassed.

So sick of the same old dance I do of losing 5 lbs, gaining 8, losing 10 lbs, gaining 15... it's too much and too tired of talking about it and thinking about it all the time. I just want to be on the right path already.

And so, I have "dusted off" my app and weighed in. With about the 100th horrible "Before" picture, for another try at losing weight. I think I have been trying to lose weight since I was 9 years old. Turning 42 in a few weeks. Would be nice to finally do something. And not be so darn pathetic about it. Geez.

Hope other people here are doing better than I! Really could use some support and accountability.

Hubby wants for us to get a trainer, don't see where that money would come from and don't really want to expose myself to some fit person that way. It's enough that my chiropractor gives me "helpful" little chats every few visits. Yuck. Not against getting into an exercise routine, I'd almost rather go to a therapist than a personal trainer. Kill two birds... ;-)

Be careful of the "fast foods" out there. Even the salad and McDonalds or Wendy's can be loaded with calories. The Berry Almond Chicken salad at Wendy's is over 500 calories. Many times they fry the chicken breast on the same grill as the hamburgers so it picks up a ton of fat -- and as you said, they pile on the extras. They have side salads which are smaller but which don't have all the junk on them. The baked potato at Wendy's can be the same, so take care. Good luck.

If I want a salad, I throw some salad greens in a Ziploc bag with cucumbers and tomatoes and keep in a chilled tote. I throw in the check breast that I grill at home and - voila', lunch in a flash without the calories.

Hi, I'm Promise, I just joined 100 Plus Club today. I'm on my third week of reset. I've had some success, 9 lbs gone, but I know that this is the long haul. I'm hoping to make some friends who are just as motivated to get healthy and we can share our journey. I'm using percents for my goals and I'm half way to my 5%! I can't wait to get there. Have you reached your 5%?

Promise :)

Progress, not perfection!

I am happy in the now. The past is behind me and the future is what I *MAKE* it. ~Me

Well I wasted January not meeting my goals. do not want to let this year go by without a good loss. I am a diabetic and on medication which makes it hard for me to lose. NO MORE EXCUSES. There are a lot of diabetics that can lose. I WILL BE ONE OF THEM!

Have a wonderful day and stay focused.

Hello to all. I'm fairly new here but am doing my best to track my food and activities. As another member wrote, I too am a stress eater, or emotional eater. My troubles usually start in the mid-afternoon. I am hoping that I will be able to eat the healthful dinner I've planned for today, and end the day having kept at least 75% to my eating plan. Tomorrow I'll be eating lunch out, and I've checked some nutritional info. Most likely I'll get a salad from McDonald's, taking care with the extras they sometimes pile on. Or I could get a baked potato at Wendy's. Hmmm.

Wishing everyone a restful sleep tonight.

I am a stress eater, and the stress of the kids the last month has really shown up in my weight. There is a psychologist on the hospital weight loss clinic I start in January, and I am looking forward to talking with them.

I joined SP Sunday and so far, I've just been monitoring my food intake while adding exercise into my day. First off, my exercise is has me getting up in the morning a little sore, but it's a great feeling that makes me feel like I've really accomplished something. :) Second off, I am absolutely SHOCKED by how many calories that I have been consuming unknowingly!!! Foods that I thought were healthy are NOT and what I thought was a serving size...not even close! I'm happy for this wake-up call and can't wait to figure out where else I've been making mistakes!

Finally getting back to what I need to do. I have had a lot going on over the past few months. I have lost two friends, one to cancer and the other they can't find why she died suddenly (it was my sisters sister in law). Also I seem to be the councillor for my friends and two of my family members who are going through stressful situations at the moment. I don't mind as I would rather them talk than keep it bottled up. I just needed to take a break from hear while trying to get my head around things.

I have managed to gain too much weight again so now need to lose it again.

I don't have a specific goal for weight. Right now I'd like to get to a size 14-16 by September (currently an 18-20, but closer to 18). I've found that choosing a number on the scale only makes me frustrated, especially since my body tends to weigh more than one would expect at my size due to muscle mass. My biggest problem is snacking. I tend to eat healthy, but I live with people who love junk food and I have a hard time not diving in.

Exercise is my Prozac.

Haven't posted in a while. Lots of things happening.

2-12-13 - broke my foot, 2-19-13 had surgery to put a pin in the bone, no walking for 12 weeks! Was in a boot and used a knee cart to get around. Because of the knee cart my arthritic knee kicked in full mode pain! I couldn't do much of anything. It hurt so bad all the time and was REALLY bad when I tried to ride my recumb bike. :( Went to see the ortho dr and my knee was at a 20 degree angle - normal is 7.
10-23-13 - had total knee replacement, weighed in at 268 (low was 234). Had problems with my blood pressure being too low so they kept me in the hospital an extra day with an IV. Came home dizzy and not able to keep anything down. Lost 10 pounds in two weeks after the surgery.
1-8-14 - dr put me on HP meds. Been running high since surgery - 142/92 average. I feel bloated most of the time but I have maintained the 10 pound loss.
1-31-14 - started at FitZone with a 6-week gift certificate. Haven't been going consistently but have been walking at work and using recumb bike at home.
2-24-14 - started tracking food intake again on SP, blogging daily on SP page the results of the day....holding myself accountable.

When I went to my bariatric surgeon in 10-18-13 I had gained again. She told me that the Bariatric Association had released that people 3+ years out should reduce their calorie intake to 1000-1200. She wants me to stay more to below 1100. No surprise there! I have to go back April 14 for a 6-month check-up to see how the weight loss is going. They were sympathic with all the issues thru the year last year but she wants to check my progress since having my knee replacement done.

With this weather my season disorder has been in full gear this winter - all I want is to cuddle in deep and not do ANYTHING! Full hibernation mode. Doesn't make it easy to keep yourself motivated when you are so BLUE. When I get cold, I get chilled to the bone and it takes FOREVER to warm back up. This morning it was -9 on the way to work.

I truly want to get back on the band wagon and get the weight loss going again. Everyone says that RNY is the lazy man's way out but it's not. It takes will and determination. It takes a want to. If I am to succeed it is up to me! :)

God bless,
Theresa

It is not really possible to lose that much weight that quickly without doing something drastic or something that isnt healthy. You would have to restrict your calories too muvh. Most women only lose about 1 to 2 pounds per week

Ok so I want to lose 40 pounds by April 4 th. Now I know that it is a lot of weight tip lose in that sorry of time but I am taking my boyfriend on a weekend get away and I hate what I look like in a bathing suit. If I lose the 40 lbs I would have a better self esteem.

So my question is what should I do more to be able to lose that.
