Some people do get a little carried away. I knew one couple a few years back or never celebrated major holidays (like Christmas or whatever) with gifts. They tried to concentrate on treating each other well every day, and not just buying things.

You prefer plants, huh? I can understand that. I don't mind the odd cut flower, though. I kill plants anyway, so they last as long as the flowers do. *gigglesnort*

Interesting article, but Valentines day is sooooo over rated ... to me one day of the year that is so blasted commercial is annoying that we observe it yes, but do not so anything major for it we wait for a few days after it or before it to treat each other its cheaper makes more sense to us and well its got nothing to do with all the commercialism that surrounds the 14th - that and he makes every day I am with him special in its own way that I don't need or wont just one day of the year that is suppose to be devoted that idea.

and the authors comment "PS – If you celebrate Valentines day early or late, make sure to have some roses sent to your wife at work on the 14th. Better yet, use your lunch break to deliver them yourself. Major brownie points!" ... if my hubby did that to me I'd be asking what he did wrong and where because I can't stand the dead things, gags and he well knows it - actually any dead flower gets me not pleased he knows to get me a potted plant if he wont's to get my a flower.

Good one.

And I totally agree about the, "a single rose is just as romantic". Apparently, according to Dr. John Gray (Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus) and Mark Grungor (Laugh your Way to a Better Marriage), men score just as many points for the little things they do (clear the table without being asked after dinner, picking up dirty laundry lying on the floor, getting their wife a drink without having to be asked, buying a single rose, or making a card) than for the huge ones. We just appreciate the thought and the gesture!

I would add that instead of one day of huge things to celebrate Valentine's Day, many days of little things may actually mean more, as it lasts longer.
