Go out on our boat, play his favorite game with him, have him read to me while I cook, we always have dinner at the table as a family (sounds lame but we talk and talk).

I am about to post a new blog to my page. No surgery date yet.

Another fun thing to do with the kids...go fresh fruit picking. My daughter loves it. She likes eating it as we pick it more than bringing it home but has a load of fun doing it!

Oh cool. A baby elephant. Take a picture for us! I'd love to see it.

How'd the assessment go? Any date for surgery yet?

CJ,
Our family membership is already paid for lol. We went to the Pittsburgh Zoo 2 weekends in a row awaiting the arrival of a new baby elephant from one of the expectant mommas. She was born 2 weeks ago but they still won't let us see her until they know she gets along with the rest of the pack and has bonded with momma. This Friday after my assessment for my kidney/pancreas transplant in Cleveland we are headed to the Cleveland Zoo. With gas prices so high you have to do things like this as they are a real advantage.

Mel - I love the tick tock idea. That brings back pleasant memories with my kids! We used to play door shut with my son. He would stand, or we would stand, in an open doorframe, and we would spread our arms to block the entry. The other would have to 'open' the door by pivoting the other person. We would also play 'horsie' or 'this is the way the lady rides' etc. What fun! Thanks for the visit down memory lane!

Bridiek - that's a good idea as well. WE've done that: getting a membership to the local goose preserve, or the museum, which gets us discounts at other places. It's nice to have a place to go that isn't the same all the time, and we get to take our time or dash through, depending on the time restraints that day, but not worry that we're wasting money if it's a quick trip that day, as after the first couple of visits, the membership has paid for itself.

We like to do fun but educational stuff with our daughter. Like this year we bought a family membership to the Pittsburgh Zoo, so we can go as many times as we like. We did tell them we had 6 kids under the age of 18 (not true) so that we can take up to 5 of her friends with us. It also entitles us to either free entrance or up to 50% discount on entrance fees to 130 other zoos.

Baby J is becoming toddler J PDQ, so that has been a challenge. My favorite time is snuggle time, his favorite activity is reading or swinging... so we do those a lot. Also, "tick tock". Pick him up by his ankles and swing him back and forth like a pendulum and sing "tick tock"... it is great fun! (and strength training for me!)

Imperfection is important. If we were all perfect, then there would be no such thing as growth, and everyone would be extremely boring, which is, paradoxically, not that perfect.-- Dr. Matt

I love taking them to the forest preserve and walking together. I also take them to a park almost every other day. I just got a fence in my backyard so now I really enjoy chasing them around the yard and setting up the water slide for them. My dad got them a pool recently so I think I am going to break that out for them today.
But overall, I am outdoors with all three of my kids every day!!

My son and I read some of the same books too. I started doing this when he was in Middle School. It has been a good conversation starter.

I agree CJ. That was my individual times with the boys when they were little. Today, the youngest and I still read the same books so we can discuss them.

We take turns having what we used to call when they were little "Mommy -E" time or "Daddy - D" time or "Mommy - S" time. My son really enjoys hunting and fishing with his dad and grandfather and uncle. When they go off all day in the fall, my elder daughter and I have our time together. We go for brunch together, give ourselves manicures and pedicures, go to or rent a girlie flick, play games, etc. My younger daughter likes to go hunting and fishing occasionally, otherwise she joins us for girl time.

My hubby likes us to get outside a lot and we go for picnics, biking, hiking, walking, skiing, depending on the season.

My all time favourite activity with the children has always been and probably will always be reading to them one on one. We've read an entire library over the years! Even my teenagers still enjoy it. A good friend of mine once suggested that we never give it up as it would become more special as they got older. She was right! Sometimes that's the only time I spend with my kids individually during a day.

Our children are grown now, but our 20 year old and 23 year old still enjoy going boating with us. Actually, the 23 year old is a really great "captain" now, thanks to his dad's teaching. In our family, everyone was always running in their separate ways, but we always were able to get in our family time when out boating.

My son is older - 23 - I just spent a week with him. We went to several movies, I cooked for him, and we went shopping. It's different with adult children, bu I think it's still very important to spend time with them. oh, we also spent one evening playing a variety of Wii games.

I love to go to the drive-in movie theater with my kids. We are lucky to have one in the city we live in and they have so much fun wearing their pajamas and eating homemade popcorn in the car while watching a new movie!

I take my kids fishing and camping. We have so much camping. One time it rained so hard that we had to stay in the tent we played games and had the best time laughing. My kids made me laugh so hard I almost peed my pants. emoticon

We try to get outside as much as possible. If it's just me and my son, which is not very often, he likes for me to read to him and play with his blocks. Me and my daughter is a totally different story, she has to have "projects", but I have just caught on to the fact that she deosn't know yet what's "fun" and whats "work". She loves to paint and I have a shelf that I wanted to paint, so problem solved! I'm distressing the shelf anyway so it doesn't have to be perfect and she's thrilled to do it!

When it's me and my daughter she always want to hit the Build A Bear store and build a new bear. With my son we like to take walks down the road and just talk. It really lets him vent out his frustrations and praises and he really enjoys it.

Hi everyone:
Just for fun, was wondering if anyone wants to post some of their favorite ideas for mother/daughter or father/son bonding adventures. Or any ideas for alone time with just one of your children. Could be local, day trips, free adventures, whatever comes to mind.

My husband and son are off on their "guys roadtrip" this weekend. They are having lots of fun. When my son spends his alone time with me he always picks arcades. LOL!

I'm getting to spend time with my 4 yr old, just us girls. We decided our theme is perfectly pink (aka, all things girlie.) So, we're painting our nails, etc. We went and made a candle together, She loves crafts and so do I. We might have a tea party and dress up.

So, I thought it would be fun to hear from others out there and add to my idea list for the next time I get alone time with one of the kids. Thanks!
