Ok...even though I slipped up over the weekend, I still lost 2 lbs. I worked my butt off to do it but, I did it.

Ugh. I sure know that feeling. Right now in fact.
I feel like this:
emoticon
My aunt is in town from England this week and we took her to the park for a long walk and then to lunch before going shopping for her to buy the children some presents.

I ate at Tim Horton's at lunch (had a sandwich and a hot chocolate AND a donut). We then went to McDonald's for an ice cream after shopping. I feel grotesque. It doesn't help that it's over 90 degrees here for the first time in ages. I feel like a beached whale! My hubby just asked what I wanted for dinner - I said nothing but vegetables, otherwise I'll explode!

You're right that you (we!) can't do anything after, except not beat ourselves up about it. Although, we can think about what we could do next time and plan things out better (next time I'd have just water with lunch instead of hot chocolate or at least a tea). Also, I didn't need to have an ice cream, I could have shared one with my hubby or just had a lick from his instead of a whole one. Also, we can resolve to have a better day the next day.

Here's to a new start for both of us and more fresh fruits and veggies and less fast food and treats!

Ok...I did really great the first week. This week I didn't do as well with the exercising and all that good stuff. I also cheated on Friday and Saturday. The humidity has been pretty bad but, still doing the best that I can. Friday I was bad...hubby ordered Pizza Hut Friday night and I gave in and had 4 medium pieces...Saturday, I took the kids to a church picnic...made my potato salad, chicken caesar pasta salad. I ate like 2 or 3 tbsp of each and 2 hotdogs. I'm not beating myself up because, I can't undo it but, I still feel pretty bad about it.

Help Me!

You're very welcome!
I'm sorry that you are feeling poorly.

And you're right - you have to do only what you can do, given your limitations. I, too, have asthma (mild and well-controlled) and when I started I had a lot more trouble exercising. You just do what you can, when you can.

I agree that 1720-2070 seems an awful lot of calories (although I admit I sometimes get that many and I shouldn't!).

Good luck! I hope you feel better soon.

Thank you so much CJ...today I am just under my goal. The goal for SP is 1720-2070. That is way too much calories for me. I didn't really get to exercise today...I am not feeling good at all. I am dizzy and very tired. I was in the hospital over the weekend for swelling in my legs and feet, chest pains, shortness of breath (I have COPD & Asthma) and dizziness.

Yesterday I felt great and felt pretty good on Monday. So I was able to exercise a lot more. Today I didn't do anything I said I was going to do and I am not upset by it because, I have to go by my limitations.

Thank you for the help you're the best. emoticon

Hey Honeylou. I just visited your nutrition tracker. At first I thought, "Well, no wonder Honeylou's calories are too low, she's not eating dinner!" And then I realized that I was looking at today's tracker and it's not even dinner time yet probably!
emoticon

You seem to be eating a variety of food, fruits and veggies, whole grains, meats, dairy products. That's all great. I've found an article here on SP that talks about boosting your calorie intake, without sacrificing health or weight loss. I ahve no idea how to create a link to put in a post, so I put it in my favourites. In order to see it, all you would have to do is go to my page (clicking on my logo beside this post), and scroll down until you saw my favourites. Click on that and you'll be there.

Within the article itself, there is also a link three-quarters of the way down which gives you a Q and A session about why it's important to not eat too few calories.

I hope they're helpful!
What is your calorie range as suggested by SP, anyway? I am assuming that 1800 is the lower limit? (If it is, I'm a little jealous. Mine is 1210 - 1620 right now. As you lose weight, your limits go down as you burn less just sitting when you weigh less. You also burn less from exercise as you weigh less. Nice reward, huh? You get close to goal and have to eat less, work out harder and for longer in order to make sure you don't gain again!).

Thank You CJ...I was thinking about that last night. I will probably go in and change that this morning. I am going include my nutrition tracker, I would appreciate it if you could give me some advice there. My calories are still coming up short. I did 1546 yesterday.

Well done for the fitness success!!

If you are working out a lot more or less than is listed on your fitness goals, you may want to go into the "change fitness goals" section of your fitness tracker. Without changing anything, just hit 'save changes'. This may alert the system to the fact that you are burning more or less calories than you thought you would when you started. Depending on about a million factors (that I don't all fully understand yet), this may alter your calorie limits.

Good luck and keep moving!

Wow...thank you so much for your support. I looked back at my tracker and reworked a few things and it worked out so much better for me today. I am also exceeding my excercise goals. Despite my emphysema and asthma, I went for a walk to the park with my son David. It is 10 blocks away...the best part is I walked 5 blocks before I took a break. I am so very proud of myself.

It really helps to write down what you are eating that way first you are aware of what you are eating. Then by slowly replacing some foods with healthier choices, but don't try to do it all at once or that will frustrate you...also how are you doing with exercise? Also how much water are you drinking? Drinking water really helps with not eating as much.

I agree with maybe changing around what you eat. I too will finish up a box rather than leave a small amount which is less than a serving. I will eat alot of raisin bran which I do for fiber. Also I would try the more higher calories items for a day or two and see if it helps you. I try to find things also higher in protein like peanut butter snacks. Let me do some research and will see what I can find.

I always eat before I am hungry so I will not overeat. I make food appetizing to the eye and great for the taste buds. If you feel you are not getting enough nutrients add shakes (protein shakes). They will kick up your calorie counts and allow you to feel food. Hence, decreasing the possibility to overeat.

I'm not sure what to say that will help. I'm a person who floats very near the upper end of my calories each day and often goes over. However, for me, I've found that if I go over occasionally I actually lose more weight and faster. Either my metabolism is higher than I thought, or else I fit in more activity that I don't log all the time.

What you could do is just continue to track everything you eat, making sure that your serving sizes are accurate (measuring everything really helped me), and as the other posters said, making sure that your choices are healthy ones. Then, if you find you don't reach your lower limit and are not losing weight very effectively, try adding more food to your diet. Conversely, if you lose well and yet have good energy and don't seem to be losing muscle mass or whatever, then keep doing what you're doing. There are some great articles and Q and A pages on here if you search 'starvation mode' as that is the real problem if your calories are too few to maintain your basic physical functions throughout the day. Your body on too few calories will hang on for dear life to every pound of fat to ensure that you don't starve to death.

Watch yourself and see what happens.
Would you consider sharing your nutrition tracker so if you have further questions we can take a peek and see if we have any suggestions?

Also, this is the sort of question you can ask the experts on the general nutrition boards. The resident nutrition experts can therefore answer you and give a much more complete answer than I can.

i went through this too. so instead of worring about how many calories i eat i worry about what kind of calories i eat.
white bread has fewwer calories but multigrain is better for you.
fruit has more cals then most veggies but a balance is good.
stuff like that.
when i tried to eat the recomended cals i gained 5 pounds. some of us can function on less.
watch your serving sizes and make the calories you do eat count.
good luck

I would say look at what you're eating when you ARE hungry. Maybe switching to something that is higher in calories but not in fat or sodium etc. I had a 1.25 servings --I was at the end of the box and not going to save 1/4 cup of cereal...lol-- of Post Trail Mix Crunch mixed into 1/2 cup (1 serving=1 cup) of vanilla yogurt (by the way, it tastes out of this world and full of stuff that is good for ya). 388 calories.

I honestly don't know how I m going to eat 1800 calories a day. Today I only ate 1,117 calories. I only eat when I am hungry. I don't know what to do...do I force myself to eat even if I'm not hungry?
