THE LAW OF LIFE
Whatever you give away today or think or say or do
Will multiply about tenfold and then return to you;
It may not come immediately, nor from the obvious source,
But the law applies unfailingly, through some invisible source.
Whatever you feel about another, be it love or hate or passion,
Will surely bounce right back to you in some clear (or secret) fashion;
If you speak about some person a word of praise or two,
Soon tens of other people will speak kind words of you.
Our thoughts are broadcasts of the soul, not secrets of the brain;
Kind ones bring us happiness petty ones, untold pain;
Giving works as surely as reflections in a mirror —
If hate you send, hate you'll get back, but loving brings love nearer.
Remember as you start this day, and duty crowds your mind,
That kindness comes so quickly back to those who first are kind;
Let that thought and this one direct us through each day —
The only things we ever keep are the things we give away.

Therefore, each moment and every new day is a chance to begin anew."

Went out to Beaver Creek Park last night and cut a few pussy willow branches. Roads were MUCH drier than we figured and creek not running very high or fast. Only a couple of tiny patches of snow still left out there-mostly in shady draws. Supposed to be getting snow on Monday so we shall see?

I got several dozen of those fake eggs on clearance at WalMart last spring so I am having an Easter egg decorating party tomorrow night with a couple of my friends. It should be messy and fun. About as 'crafty' as I get...dying eggs and decorating Christmas cookies!! Beautiful Spring weather here. Middle 60's during the day and upper 20's at night! I believe there is one more big snow left for us and just hope it won't winter kill the trees that are starting to bud!

It's easier than you think to change your world. Success seems difficult, but it's not really complicated at all. In fact, whatever you want in life can be yours in three basic steps:
Imagine it!
Believe in it!
Reach for it!
Let your dreams energize you and watch them come true!

I'm the same way...mostly jeans and sweaters, then switch over to short sleeved shirts for the summer. Mostly Hawaiian-I am ashamed to tell you how many I have! But I do think I can whittle down a bunch of stuff. A lot of things I will never wear again and just need to accept that that part of my life is over. I also keep too many 'gardening/yardwork/harvest' clothes. Some of that just needs to go to the dumpster.

emoticon Nice idea!

I suppose that I am already half on board with this idea - my bottom half is almost always enclosed in blue jeans.

It's the top half that I usually have troubles with - you know --- What color T-shirt should I wear today? Mostly kidding, but a lot of truth in it now that the weather is getting nicer. In winter the question is what sweater to wear over the T-shirt...

But I still have too many t-shirts! (and sweaters!)

8 Reasons Successful People Are Choosing to Wear the Same Thing Every Day
Written by Joshua Becker ·

The capsule wardrobe movement continues to gain momentum.

Fast fashion deserves criticism. And our culture’s obsession with ever-changing fashion trends is an artificial pursuit manufactured by those who benefit from it.

The capsule wardrobe movement is far from mainstream. But, elevated in the social consciousness by some high-profile personalities, more and more people are applying minimalist principles to their fashion.

Many people outside the movement remain skeptical. They wonder why anybody would intentionally choose to wear the same outfit every day—especially when financial resources are not in question.

Evaluating my personal experience with a minimal wardrobe and studying recent profiles in various publications, I have created this list of reasons.

If you have ever wondered why some successful people choose to wear the same outfit everyday, or better yet, if you are considering adopting a more streamlined wardrobe yourself, here are 8 convincing reasons:

1. Fewer decisions. Decision fatigue refers to the deteriorating quality of decisions made by an individual after a long session of decision making. For people who make significant decisions every day, the removal of even one—choosing clothes in the morning—leaves them with more mental space and better productivity throughout the day.

This forms the basis for President Barack Obama’s limited fashion options, “You’ll see I wear only gray or blue suits. I’m trying to pare down decisions. I don’t want to make decisions about what I’m eating or wearing. Because I have too many other decisions to make.” Mark Zuckerberg cites similar rationale. One less frivolous decision in the morning leads to better decisions on things that really matter.

2. Less time wasted. We have no idea how much of a burden our possessions have become until we begin to remove them. But when we do, we immediately discover a new life of freedom and opportunity. It was almost five years ago that I first experimented with Project 333—a personal challenge of wearing only 33 articles of clothing for a period of 3 months. The project is simple, life-changing, and wildly beneficial. I quickly discovered one of the greatest benefits of limiting my wardrobe: the gift of time. Getting ready in the morning became easier, quicker, and more efficient.

3. Less stress. Matilda Kahl, an art director in New York cites both decision fatigue and less time getting ready as her reason for wearing the same outfit everyday. But she adds another: less stress—specifically, less stress during the day over the decision she originally made in the morning. “Is this too formal? Is that too out there? Is this dress too short? Almost always, I’d choose something to wear I regretted as soon as I hit the subway platform.” But now, in her trademark silk white shirt and black trousers, she has one less source of anxiety during the day.

4. Less wasted energy. Christopher Nolan has created several of the most critically and commercially successful films of the early 21st century. But, according to New York Times Magazine, he decided long ago it was “a waste of energy to choose anew what to wear each day.” Now, he settles instead for a dark, narrow-lapeled jacket over a blue dress shirt with black trousers over sensible shoes to wear each day.

Christopher offers an important distinction when he refers to “wasted energy.” Not only do large wardrobes require more decision-making, they also require more maintenance, more organization, and more shuffling around. Additionally, while a capsule wardrobe may not result in less laundry, it does result in both easier laundry and storage.

5. Feeling put together. Denaye Barahona is a young mother in Dallas, TX. This spring, she exchanged her full, disorganized closet for a minimal wardrobe of versatile pieces she loves to wear. She summarizes the difference like this, “Pre-capsule, my wardrobe was like the Cheesecake Factory menu. It went on for days and was overwhelming. Most of my options didn’t fit right, didn’t look right, or I just plain didn’t like. On the other hand, my capsule wardrobe is like a fine-dining restaurant. I have fewer choices but I can be sure all of the choices will be amazing. Not only do I look better, I feel better.”

Easy, versatile, and always put together. This is the promise and opportunity of a capsule wardrobe—and just one more reason the movement continues to grow.

6. Iconic. Alice Gregory is a writer living in New York City. Last year, her piece for J. Crew magazine brought a new word into my reasoning for wearing a uniform. She called it “Iconic. A cheap and easy way to feel famous.” She continues, “A uniform can be a way of performing maturity or, less charitably, impersonating it. A uniform insinuates the sort of sober priorities that ossify with age, as well as a deliberate past of editing and improving.”

Alice points out that wearing the same outfit everyday is a way of asserting your status as a protagonist. “This is the reason why characters in picture books never change their clothes: Children—like adults, if they’d only admit it—crave continuity. Adopting the habit of wearing a uniform is not unstylish—this is a classification that no longer applies.”

7. Less expense. Our closets are full of clothes and shoes purchased, but rarely worn. The average American family spends $1,700 on clothes annually. Which may not seem like a lot—until you consider that most clothing purchases are not based on need at all. In 1930, the average American woman owned nine outfits. Today, that figure is 30—one for every day of the month.

Living with a capsule wardrobe or adopting an iconic uniform removes most of the waste and expense from trial-and-error clothing purchases—not to mention all the time wasted shopping for items only to return later.

8. More peace. Last month, Drew Barrymore wrote an article for Refinery 29 highlighting her new stage of life and relationship with clothes. “For starters, I’m almost 40, and the 20s clothes don’t make sense anymore. And, after two babies, the 30s clothes don’t fit anymore. I am at a clothing crossroads, and it’s a painful one at times.” To counter these feelings, Drew put herself on a closet diet limiting her wardrobe and only buying items thoughtfully. Months later, her closet is “sane and happy.” Getting dressed is no longer a battle. And her fashion sense is “now calmer and more peaceful.”

We are a society drowning in our possessions. People are looking for freedom and rescue. They are searching for new solutions. No wonder the capsule wardrobe movement continues to grow.

Those who adopt minimalist principles in their wardrobe choices are discovering more productivity, less stress, less distraction, less expense, and more peace.

Maybe it is time you gave it a try.

Lots of falls around here too! I wonder if it's because we are not paying attention since the ice is gone? Sorry you had to pick up worker's comp. I don't even want to think what kind of nightmare that must be. Used to have to do the ones at the RR for every incident and it wasn't the least bit fun!

I just feel really lucky that it wasn't any worse. Didn't even take a pain pill. Just some aspirin and a good soak and some analgesic cream and i should be good as new in a couple of daze!
It's pretty muddy in the alley (where I park) but most places are drying out. Will definitely dry out if those winds they are predicting for Friday show up!!

Ouch!! emoticon (These won't hurt, I promise)

This has been a bad week for falls. The woman who shares my office fell and broke her ankle over the weekend, Then Monday another co-worker slipped on a snowy incline at work and hurt his arm (jammed his upper arm into his shoulder). And I was the one appointed to deal with work comp, which is really fun (sarcasm...).

I hope you feel better tomorrow.

On a brighter note, I was able to be out and about today without putting on my snow/mud boots.

Slipped and fell coming out of the back door yesterday! I soaked in Epsom salts last night. My knee burned like when I was a kid with skinned knees from a bike accident and my mom would put that pink Mercurochrome (?) or methialate (whichever one burned the most?) Had on sweat pants so the fleece was stuck in the scrapes and it was just painful. Later my left arm was so sore I could hardly lift it. I'm sure it's just muscles because I reached behind to grab the door frame. Hurt throughout my armpit down into my ribs. Couldn't use it to pat myself on the back for getting my first day of garbage bags filled, but the other one (right) works just fine!! Really felt blessed I didn't get hurt any worse and didn't hurt the cement because I went down HARD!!

I didn't see the comet, but did see a bit of the eclipse - in our area it happened just as the moon was coming up. It looked much like the picture on my banner - just a bit of dark on the north edge. It was a penumbral eclipse, so the moon was not completely darkened, the moon caught only the edge of the shadow cast.

Looking online I see there is a solar eclipse at about 8 a.m on Sunday, February 26. That's in a bit over two weeks. I wonder how often the Earth gets to experience two eclipses that close together.

Unfortunately, it will only be visible in parts of South America and Africa. We'll have to wait a while to see one here - August 21 of this year will be the next time we might have a chance.to see one. It will be partial here - best view of the total eclipse will be in western Kentucky.

Next one visible from this area will be in October, 2023 and will be an annular eclipse.

Lots of slush and lots of ice. Moon was great. Didn't see the comet or the eclipse but the moon was sure bright white! Hands are sore from chipping ice...to say nothing of back and shoulders. Today I'm just going to run out to Wally World and get some dog food and a chicken to make soup. Got my ironing done and working on Valentines.

Yup, it is a proper chinook, although kind of light on the wind (but that's find with me!). Most of my snow is gone, but there is a lot of slush...

One more day and my sidewalk should be clear.

Nice full moon tonight.

We didn't get snow OR rain but it's sunny and warm and melting. Piles sliding off the roof. Headed out to lunch. Roads look slick but not running with water the way they are in some places. It never got above 20 here yesterday but seemed to keep warming up all night as it was dripping when the dogs went out at 2 and 6?

No melting here in NE Montana, yet. Supposed to be warm and windy Friday, so we'll probably have lots of slush...

I heard on the news tonight that there are areas of the state where the roads are closed because of the water.

Was worried when the weatherman said 50% chance of snow last night turning to rain but so far it's dry. Very bright white sky out there. Still not above freezing so I'm gonna try to chip out some of the bigger hunks of ice and get them off the driveway area. Must easier than trying to sweep out water.

I kind of remember reading a blog or two of yours on the Montana team feed quite a while ago.

There's not a lot of interaction on this team, it seems to be more of a place where you can connect to Montanans and Montana aficionados.

The article I saw earlier was from Kalispell and it said they would get 30-50 inches of snow. Now there is a winter snow advisory on the weather channel. Looks like no one will be excluded. But I'm with you on the long johns. I keep thinking it will warm up. The sunny skies are so deceptive and tempting. But now it's gray and snow coming down again. I do the back, take a break, do the front! Keeps me above 10,000 steps.

Sunny here so far today so no new snow. Got 3-4 inches from Fri night to this morning.

I need to get out and sweep/shovel.

It's supposed to snow off and on thru Tuesday here and then the bottom drops out of the thermometer... -21F Tuesday night (and here I was hoping no more long johns...) Above freezing by the weekend. One thing about it, we certainly don't lack for a topic of conversation!

Saw on the weather channel that the western slope is supposed to get buried in snow by Tues! It's just been coming down here an inch at a time so I'm keeping up with my sweeping and shoveling. Slick at intersections and icy under the snow that wasn't shoveled. Winter in MT!
emoticon Sweeping and watching the Super Bowl commercials will be most of my Sunday!

Got to sweep off more snow today. Thought it wasn't even gonna come to us...weatherman lied again. I'm still stiff and sore from chipping ice...for all the good it did me. Just kept melting and filling back in. Still a skating rink under the snow. Treacherous to get to the dumpsters in the alley. Gotta wear my shoe chains!

My Christmas Wish To YOU
By Catherine Pulsifer

If I could wish a wish for you,
it would be for peace, faith, and happiness
not only at Christmas,
but for the whole year through!

I wish that there always be food on your table.
That you always give to those less fortunate.
May you always take time to share,
and thank those who have blessed you.

I wish for time, so you may reflect
on the blessings that you have,
and that you express your love
to those who are dear to you.

May you never feel lonely,
because there are those who care.
That you realize: you are special,
you are unique, you make a difference,
not only at Christmas, but all year!

I wish for your thoughts to be positive ones,
that you never quit, that you never give up,
and that you continue to learn.

I wish for the love, and peace ,
to be yours always.

(And Special thanks to BARBIEE52 for the basis of this lovely comment today!! She's my comment mentor and I appreciate all her help and being able to steal her great ideas and craft them into my own!)

And FERRETLOVER1 posted the cutest meme on her blog. It read "Money can't buy happiness but it can buy cows and cows make milk and milk makes ice cream and ice cream makes you happy." So that just seemed to fit right in with this.
P.S. I don't like ice cream, never have, never will???

You're so much better than 'good enough'! Maybe it's second nature for you to downplay all the gifts you were born with and the strengths you've developed. But there's nothing second-best or so-so about you! You're one-of-a-kind awesome and 100% special. Really!

This was copied from one of my Spark People Pal's blog. SPARKL3SUSAN posted it about how unhealthy venting and complaining are from a website...weorganizeu.com/shocking-consequ
ences-complaining-grumbling-killing. Thought it was a great goal for the upcoming week and wanted to share it with you. If it doesn't post, just go to the website weorganizeu.com!

Strategies to Cut the Complaining Habit

Track how often you complain. Awareness is the first step towards change.
If you catch yourself whining, add the word ‘but’ and find something positive about the situation. For example, “There is so much traffic, but I’m grateful I’m driving a comfortable car and listening to my favorite tunes”.
If you notice you are saying “I have to…” or “I should…” change it to “I get to…” You’ll feel more empowered and positive.
Complaining without moving towards a solution can make us feel victimized and powerless. Make a direct request for action to resolve the problem. For example, “Its cold in here, so could you please turn up the heat”.
Journal about what’s bothering you so you can gain a better understanding and come up with possible solutions.
Instead of complaining about a bad experience, ask what the lesson is and use it as an opportunity to grow.
Spend more time with people who uplift you and less time with chronic complainers – because complaining is contagious.

Change doesn’t happen overnight, but the less you complain, the more you’ll find to appreciate and be grateful for – and the happier and more peaceful you will feel.

Like many others, I have been on and off SP for the past several years. Now I finally think I'm ready to do this. I've logged in every day for the past three weeks and I'm establishing some better habits. Tracking what I'm eating... drinking more water... watching my portions... and I'm down five pounds. It won't happen overnight, but the weight didn't come on overnight either.

I'd love to have an "accountability buddy" if anyone's interested...?

There's no one who has dealt with the challenges you've faced, overcome the obstacles you've survived, learned the lessons you've learned and been given the opportunities that you now have. You do have an important mission that includes goals to achieve and problems to solve. But you also have gifts, wisdom and compassion to share. And the great thing about your mission and your sharing is that they go hand in hand. The timing couldn't be better.

emoticon No full moon so this will have to do.
For the first time since 1967 the summer solstice coincides with a rare ‘strawberry’ moon and, clouds willing, the 17 hours of sunlight will give way to a bright moonlit sky.

Despite the name, the moon will not appear pink or red, although it may glow a warm amber. The romantic label was coined by the Algonquin tribes of North America who believed June’s full moon signalled the beginning of the strawberry picking season.

Other names for the phenomenon in the Northern Hemisphere include Rose Moon, the Hot Moon, and the Honey Moon, while in the Southern Hemisphere it is known as the Long Night Moon.

“Having a full moon land smack on the solstice is a truly rare event,” said astronomer Bob Mernan of Farmer’s Almanac.

Hope you can get a good viewing spot tonight and relax and watch one of Mother Nature's great shows! Thank heaven we live where we can see the sky!
Linda

I bought a special t-shirt to wear to work that day, black with a greenish glow in the dark skeleton on the front.

I nuke mine usually.

You can steam them with just a bit of water in the bottom of a tightly lidded pan. Bake (roast) them with or without a spritz of PAM.

Or just eat them raw...

So I love veggies! I have about 2 servings every meal, but I use olive oil to cook them and it jacks up my caloric intake alot.

Am I missing something? is there an easier way to cook veggies without destroying your fat intake with oil?

I ,also am in a slump; tired after work with no motivation to exercise. Have to get some cardio in during the day to keep my energy on track. I'm starting small (just two days a week); hopefully it will start a trend. Glad the weather is still nice.

Hey guys!

I would like to ask for help/ motivation.

I have fallen off the wagon, I have for the past month or so, and Im stuck.

I had MRIs done on my back and I have some squished discs in my mid back.

It hurts to move and I have little motivation. I like to micro manage my life style and it drives me crazy.

I guess it's time to ask for an accountability buddy.

Hey all, I'm so glad the smoke cleared up!! I started some winter veggies a few days ago! I have spinach, tomato, beet, carrot, lettuce, kale, and radish seeds growing!!

I've lost 13 lbs this summer! I am so excited to finally get my health and weight under controll again!

I also started a new job! So that helps a bit haha!! I lift a lot of boxes weighing 10-20lbs so yay strength training!! lol

I'm so sorry for your loss Trish, *hugs*

WeezieJean I am sorry about your knee,

Prayers to all of you!

Been a hard summer for my spark journey. Grieving the loss of my brother who passed away this spring and although I am starting to have good days, most of them have just been grief riddled so I have had no desire to journey to better health. Not to mention the heat and smoky air puts a damper on any outside exercise plans.

I'm looking forward to the changes of seasons as Autumn begins her transition!

So sorry to hear about your knee WEEZIEJEAN. Injuries are not fun.

Hi, It was been a smoky August here in Western Montana. It is so sad to see all the fires that are happening across the Northwest. I injured my knee this summer and finally went to the doctor. I have bursitis of the knee cap and have to take it easy for a couple of weeks. It is a bummer not to be able to go walking and hiking. I still do my upper body weight workout. If anyone has any ideas of something I can do for exercise that won't stress my knee I would appreciate it. emoticon

Lehia, that definitely sounds like a heck of a time with all the teenagers. I hope you were able to enjoy yourself at some point!

I couldn't believe the amount of home fireworks either. We had the fire dept go by a couple times, it's sad that with it being so dry and all the fires around that people would push the limits like that. Billing's display was amazing though, and it was so nice not to have to leave our front yard!

Have a great Sunday everyone!

It's not going to happen because you want it to. It's going to happen because you worked for it!

Too many fireworks going off in our area. They are illegal in the city but everyone still shoots them off and I have a dog (originally from a reservation here) that is terrified of them so it was a rough night. Billings had a fireworks related death too. Sad!

The two big shows in our area are very nice though.

How is everyone 4th? I had the not so happy privilege of working with nothing but teenagers. Its so dry here on the rez that the only place that i am aware of that had a fire work show was Polson. Its kind of odd to not see any fire works this time of year. Just thankfully no one was stupid in part of my neighbor hood to set any off.

Yea, Kalispell has grown alot!! I'd move back if I didn't have a job and my mom here. My grandmother lives in Kalispell, and I know that town like the back of my hand. I used to walk all over that town, here in Msla I'm even afraid to walk around the block, so many people yell names and cat calls here. Which I dislike very much. On the other hand I do love my apartment and my garden and some of the people here are nice. Plus I feel you dont have to go too far to be in nature

I was in Kalispell about 10 days ago and I can't believe how much it has grown in the 2 1/2 years since I'd been there -- and I only saw the part from West Reserve south to downtown and then out #2 to K-Mart and up to Col Falls. The shopping center around Costco has grown tremendously...

Will be back later this month for a family reunion in the Eureka area and will probably pick cherries on Flathead Lake.

Lake Elmo is a small lake in Billings. I believe it is actually a state park.
