You can't get the skinny cow here in Switzerland
I've seen the ads in American and British women's magazines and been wondering how would it taste. Here the only "light" ice cream is Mövenpick sorbet (0% fat, 1000% sugar)...emoticonemoticon

Sorry, Sari for mentioning those yummy treats. I'll stop now. :) I'm surprised weight watchers has a light version of laskiaspulla, though! How awesome.

RAKSIPULLA:

Hyvaa itaa Sari....mita kuuluu?

Anteeksi, en puhu suomea, (Sorry, I don't speak Finnish). I really wish I did.

Now Sari, you must promise NOT to TELL DIANA this, but what I did, was to go onto the internet.....I typed in phrases in Finnish.

Great fun.....I've tried it too with Chinese....for when I'm chatting with ARMLEYLASS, Danni....but SO, SO hard to follow.
The thing is, I bought my computer here in Spain and it does not seem to have the 2 aa's if you understand me....you know, the dots over ths a's.

Diana, or possibliy Theresa, suggested something for me to try doing on my computer, to see if I could get the dots, but it did not work for me.

I have two Italian friend's who lived for 43 years in Switzerland......Mina dresses to kill.....SO elegant, not like me. There are also two nice ladies that I know from the gym, who are from Switzerland too........All now living here in Espaa.

Now back to take a look on the other threads.
It's so good to have you here with us Sari.

Hasta maana!
Rosemary. emoticon

I got totally surprised by the finnish greeting of Rosemary. Rosemary, how did you learn finnish? you truly are a world citizen :-)

I have to agree with you Diana that Helsinki is probably the only city where I could imagine living in Finland. I studied at Tampereen Yliopisto so I have been a lot in Tampere but it's such a small place...

Switzerland is really lovely too - more cosmopolitan than one might think :-)There are lot of temptations here: chocolate, fondue, raclette, wine...that's for sure. On the other hand you can go hiking and skiing and climbing to burnm away the calories

This is not fair, now I can't help but dream of the laskiaispulla too - with tons of cream and marzipan :-) For those of you who don't know what a laskiaispulla is :http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Semla The nice thing is that I have found the weight watchers recipe to make a lighter version:http://www.yle.fi/genreportaalit/portaali.php?genre=terveys&osannimi=hyvaolo_reseptit&jutunid=1683

Oh, that's not all. There are laskiaspulla everywhere too!! I'm making myself drool. emoticon

My parents are arriving tomorrow and my mom always has to buy all the cakes and "mummo-pitko"s she can find. Then she takes one taste and leaves the rest. It's horrible!! Maybe this year I'll tell her to take her one taste and then throw the rest in the duck pond.. I'm sure there are tons of Swiss delights that must be avoided so maybe we should change the subject! :P

Hei Pulla- It's funny to call someone that but it's a really sweet nick-name. Will have to try a version on M (bf)!

There goes Rosemary showing off her Finnish. Darn it, she's better than I am and has never studied the language!! :)

When I was in high school in Florida I had a Finnish friend (guy) and eventually fell in love and moved here to be with him & also to study at Helsingin Yliopisto. He's orig. from Tampere, too. We had a little boy 3 years ago then split. Current bf (of 2 years)is in the army for the first time, and yes he will probably be there one full year since he has a master's from HUT and will possibly be useful at some technical center (I think the options are now 6, 9, or 12 months though I suppose it used to be 8 or 11?). It sucks but I think I'm coping okay.

So that was long, but that's why Helsinki! I can't imagine living anywhere else in Finland although it's such a beautiful country.

I'd love to visit Switzerland someday. Must be so beautiful.

Hi Raksipulla, welcome. As you can already see, this group is very chatty. And what DEDENE said is true: this team won't leave you alone. Trust me. hehe I'm Jen, an American living in Oslo, Norway. I've only been here 2 years, and I don't consider myself European at all. Maybe that will change one day? I don't know...

Terve.....hauska tavata Sari!!

"WELCOME" to the wonderful expats.

"BIENVENIDO". I'm Rosemary.....I was born in England, but moved to Ireland when I was 16.
My father is Scottish and my mother was Irish.

I lived in Ireland ,until just over 2 years ago when I came to live in BEAUIFUL Espaa.
I always consider myself to be an (Irish), world citizen. My culture is Irish after all these years.

I hate yo-yoing too. Years ago, (when I was 40), I was very thin/boney. My family and friends all think I look much better now, even though I weigh more.

Ahhh well.......jutellaan toistekin!

Hi all,

Thanks so much for the warm welcome. I'm pretty chatty myself so shoot - I'm ready emoticon

Moi Diana, thanks for adding a comment to my sparkpage!I love Helsinki (why Helsinki btw, if you don't mind me asking?) - my sister lives there so I visit her quite often. And partying is always good there too :-) I'm from Tampere myself, my hubby is Swiss (met him in Switzerland five and a half years ago). I've been living here (first in Basel and then in Zürich) for ca. four years so I'm slowly starting to feel like a real Swiss-miss...Oh, please don't even mention the Runebergin torttu to me: I'm starting to drool. I bet it would be huge hit to develop a low fat/low calory version of it. Is your boyfriend in army for the first time (three hundred and something days) or does he just have the re-rehearsing session?

Raksipulla is not something rude: it's a bit of an imaginary word, a pet name my hubby uses sometimes. I guess you could translate it as love-cinnamon bun. My hubby obviously loves his sweets

Tervetuloa Sari!
I guessed you were a Finn by your screen name. :) I'm Diana, from the US, living in Helsinki for almost 5 years now. Where in Finland were you from? We have Runeberg cakes ALL over right now, it's hard to avoid them, but so far I've managed. Not sure about this weekend, we might have to celebrate my bf's first leave from the army (he's 28 and just started a week and a half ago. YUCK!)

How long have you lived in Switzerland? Is your hubby Swiss?

Hope you like our team!

Hi all,

My name is Sari, I'm a Finn living in Switzerland (moved after my hubby). I've been to SP for a while now, have lapsed a bit in the meanwhile but I'm back on the wagon again. My main goal is to stop yo-yoing even if it would mean that my maintenance weight is higher than the weight I would like to be in... Any other Europeans here?
