some friends and I got together and played cards. I coudn't do too much at the time, but we had fun. We also played jeopardy, the home game. That was fun. I wish I could have done more. They celebrate halloween, most of them are christian, that's what I get for living in the south. Anywho...hope everyone's was happy.

Don't you love reconnecting with old friends. I have had about 6 of them that I have been in touch with for about 15 years come back into my life. I feel so blessed. Everyone have a wonderful, happy, and safe Samhain.

Okay, sorry it took me so long to get back into this, I didn't know WHAT my plans were! I think I may celebrate some small things with my daughters at home tonight and tomorrow, and then hold a ritual with an old friend I just reconnected with, after years, this week(! -don't you love that?) who also happened to be my first guide on this path. We would get together on the 2nd as well, I believe, because of the full moon. That's what I'm suggesting anyway.
Better night of the week too.

Hope you all have a blessed solstice!

My son is going trick or treating and I'm hoping afterwards we can go to our land and build a bonfire with the debris we cleared from beside the creek. I'm also hoping to camp out there if it doesn't get too cold. emoticon

I LOVE Samhain, although I did more to celebrate it when my daughters were growing up than I do with my sons.

We may make a campfire in the backyard, sometimes we do that. We always visit a cemetery and eat pomegranates and make an offering. We set a place for our dead too, and before we eat go around the table and everyone says..this is an example "I am susan jones, daughter of jane smith, daughter of (name as far back as you know), then finish with daughter of a woman unknown." Then when the last person does it, everyone says We Honor You.

Have you had any ideas for what you will do with your daughter? My daughter (3.5) has actually started wondering about meanings behind some things, and my son (almost 6) has started picking up on ritualistic things in other families (Christian) and is kind of wondering why we don't do the same things. I've tried introducing some topics through books and things, but get some resistance because it isn't snakes, dinosaurs, or dragons.

You know, the actual "day of" has been so hectic for me now for several years...for one thing it's the anniversary of when me and the hubs got together(we started the night out as partyhopping school-friends and well....you know it goes), I do trick or treating with my kids, we get tons of trick or treaters too. There's all the time spent on make-up and costuming. I have really been interested in celebrating it at the full moon correlating with the holiday, rather than the date of October 31st, but I'm sometimes unsure of whether it should be the moon before or after.

I want to start some traditions with my older daughter at least, she just turned 7 and is inquiring as to the spiritual aspect of things more and more... I just don't want my guy to think I'm a loon because he runs more atheist-ish/agnostic-lines

Since I live in a small community and don't have any trick or treaters I will probably spend my evening in my garden with my dog and kitties leaving offerings to the dead.

As is tradition, I set the table on Samhain and leave a place empty to honor the dead, especially my dad.

Do you have any special reflections or traditions for Samhain?
