Hi April,

Thanks so much for the compliment. I really don't see that much of a difference from my old photo to the new one. But I know I am making strides! I put on jeans the other day and I was able to pull them off without undoing the button or zipper.

Great job on lowering your blood pressure. That is awesome that you are improving your health!

And just last night I woke up at 5 a.m. with something poking at me--my pedometer!!

This past week I only made over 10,000 four days - but this coming week I'm working very hard to make that at least 5 days over 10,000, and preferably every day.
Sometimes my pedometer seems wacky. I walk 100 and it counts 140. Another time I count 100 and it counted 67. .. Well, hopefully the comparative numbers over time will all even out.?

Ponytrot, keep it up! The exercise really does help. And loosing those pounds really helps our overall health.

Once you are closer to goal weight, you can change to a diet that you can maintain easier.

In the end, the choice you make makes you.

Wow, another day with over 10,000 steps - 10,152 to be exact!
I'm so proud! I've also started on Atkins, as my Dr. suggested. This is only the end of day 4, but my determination is set and my exercise patterns are highly improved. I know there is controversy, but it seems the most likely plan of attack for me to follow at this point to get out of the obese range once and for all!
So, tomorrow, another 10,000, going one step at a time...

Sarah, is so nice that your mother is taking the time to walk. I'm sure that it makes her feel great and it is good for her too. Congrats to your mother and to you for sharing her story with us.

Sarah,
God Bless your 86 year old mother for getting her 10K steps in a day...especially easily!! I still don't make it to 10K 95% of days (and I am only 38)!
She must be in wonderful shape.

One of the things about the pedometer that makes me smile is now that I'm wearing one, my 86 year old mother wants one so she can make certain she gets 10,000 steps a day (she does, easy!) There's something about seeing the numbers that makes it a wonderful mind game.

I can live without my pedometer. I feel lost without it. It is first thing I put on in the morning and the last thing I take off at night. I didn't realize when I started wearing my pedometer that it would become one of my most prized accessories.

There are 3 Omron HJ112's in my house! LOL! I originally bought one for a back-up (and for my husband to use in the meantime.) And then my 14 year old daughter decided she wanted one- so I split the cost w/her to get one. But now I am the only one still wearing one. So if something goes wrong w/ mine there will definitely be one I can use!!

I have been known to go to bed with it still on! I love wearing one. Last month mine died and I had to wait a week for the replacement to arrive. Darn near drove me batty to go around without it!

Today I got a free pedometer at the local public library as part of an AARP program called Wise Walk. We have to turn in how many steps we walk each week for 10 weeks, and they have informative tips on Healthy aging. Geared to people 50 yrs. old and up, to start good health habits, including walking particularly.
