Ur right, pedometers are inaccurate but to me it is just a number. I use the same pedometer everyday for years know so to me, the number it comes up with is only a guide that I need more steps for the day or that I got enough and I should be happy. Nothing in this world is gonna be 100% accurate. They are just guides for us.

Walk and try to do what every you can to push yourself that little extra and it all helps in the end.

No more excuses, making all healthy choices.

No one has mentioned the inaccuracies of some pedometers...I would walk 3 miles on a treadmill and my ped. would register 1200 steps! REALLY????

So I broke down and bought a GoWearFit armband. I wear it all the time except when bathing. So I know my steps are accurate.

I do the things everyone else mentioned: definitely some treadmilling or walking for exercise every day. I also take an extra lap around the grocery store and park further out. I walk to the end of the street to get the mail instead of driving. Will march in place in front of TV at the end of the day. As I've gotten fitter I don't ask DH to get things for me when I'm on the couch, I get them myself. I jump up from the kitchen table to get the salt, ketchup, etc. Yes, these are all little things but they DO add up!

I know if I want to make 12K ... I better get up early before work and get between 4 and 5 k (about 45 minutes of cardio)... at a minimum. I try to walk at lunch, weather permitting. I walk to and from my bus stop - sometimes getting off at an earlier stop.

I park at the last parking spot and walk it in... I print at the far printer.

It isn't always about getting all those steps during cardio but that I am being active throughout the day.. trying to not let my metabolism get too slow and sluggish if I can help it!

Now if I could just eat right lol

Congratulations on your 16K steps!! I'm with you - I just can't manage that amount all the time but sometimes I do really well & get over 20K (pretty rare though). You're doing great on your steps & moving quite fast really!

Keep it moving & stay healthy!!

well today I got to 16000 approximately. My pedometer was off as i was using another app, so I calculated the steps based on my averages of this whole month... Covered 11.98km about 16000 steps. I could not workout yesterday so to make up for that I did 5.6 this morning and another 5.3 this evening. However I do not think I can do this everyday.. just once in a while... emoticon

Maybe a few more months down the lane when I am strong enough to run a 5k...

I put my pedometer on when I first get up and don't take it off till I go to bed. When going to the store, I park far away from the store, or I walk if I am not getting much. When doing arrands I walk and I also so a 30 to 60 minute walk everyday and other exercises. My goal is 15,000 or more a day. The more the merrier.

No more excuses, making all healthy choices.

How do I do it???? Put my pedometer on first thing, monitor EVERY step. I get up to 12000+ on nights I work.....I am a nurse! I REALLY count all my steps there, and I do NOT walk casually either!

I remember when I first started out with my pedometer. I never got in 10k steps. Then I put the thing away for a while. When health issues came up, I dug the thing out again and took one day to find out what it took for me to get in 10k steps. Once I figured that out, it became easier. Before surgery, I was up to a min. of 15k and now I'm working on getting back to that. I like to challenge myself both with the reg. teps and the aerobic steps. You will get there and it will feel good!

The ped goes on the moment I get out of bed and stays UNTIL I go back to bed. Parking further away, taking stairs instead of elevator/escalator, etc. As others have stated, it takes time to work up to it but eventually, it becomes second nature. At my sit-down job, I would plut in 8,000 steps by noon! The job on my feet, it was an easy 15,000 or more.

I'm trying to be consistent but I think the key is to work up slowly, don't be too hard on yourself if you miss the target now and then, do your best to incorporate a few extra steps here and there - it all adds up but I'm finding that the more I do, the easier it is to do it and the easier it is, the more I can do!

I try to walk for 40 to 60 minutes each morning at a fast pace. In 10 minutes, I can easily get 1100 steps in for a total of 4400 to 6600 steps. I count this as my cardio because it's done nonstop to get my heart rate up. I also set up 30 minute breaks from the computer both at home/work to get up & do activities that require me to move for 5 to 10 minutes which is another 500 to 1100 steps. There are some days that I have a lot of energy & will do cardio twice for a total of 8800 to 13200 which doesn't even include all the other steps I do which usually add up to about 4000-4500 steps. I rarely reach 10K steps if I don't do my cardio walking.

Keep at it and you will achieve your goal. I walk all day long at work so it is sometimes easy to get in my 10,000 to 15,000 steps a day. At home,on my days off I can struggle at it but I try to add an extra 100 to 200 steps in the morning and at night.

Like Renee, I make it a point to walk everywhere I go. I will walk in place while watching TV (I feel less guilty that way!) It takes time to build up to 10K steps and above so don't beat yourself up if you don't get there immediately but work towards it. When I first started with this team I labored to reach the 10K goal but over time and by incorporating additional ways to get steps in I am now averaging over 20K per day. You can do it, just keep moving!

I get over 12000 steps most days. I walk everywhere I go, even the grocery store plus do at least a 90 minute workout. My workout is usually a combination of walking and Turbo jam. When I go on vacation it isn't unusual for me to get up to 30,000 steps. It took me a while to build up to it.

I've often wondered the same thing. Even when I walk for 30-45 minutes and workout at Curves in addition to just normal daily steps I rarely get to 10k. The only time I had a HUGE amount (nearly 20k) was when I was on vacation and walked all over Seaworld and The Riverwalk in San Antonio.

I cover on average 7000 steps per day (5-6 km) and finding it difficult to get to 12000 unless I were to run/jog the whole 90 mins I workout.
So how do you all do it? Do you actually workout (run/jog/walk) to reach 12k, 13k and more or do you workout about 10k steps and then the remaining steps are from your daily activities from morn till bedtime?

I am hoping that by May I can reach 10k... (feb 3k, mar 5k and apr 7k) working my way up to there and by June or july maybe 12k... that is if I can complete the entire workout in 90mins. I leave home 90 mins early (same time as DS and DH leave home so its easier) and workout on my way to work so that I can stick to it without having to find time for it during the day.
