I have the book "Spark, the Revolutionary New Science of Exercise & the Brain" by Ratey and it is fantastic, although pretty technical - but I just sort-of gloss over the stuff I don't understand and he does explain things so 'real people' can get it. I think the book was intended for professionals, grad students, etc, but it has SO MUCH fantastic information about how exercise affects our brains [and hormones, organs and all sorts of other things], it is really REALLY worth wading thru the other stuff.
For instance, did you know they have learned that a certain amount and type of exercise can actually GROW NEW BRAIN CELLS and not just slow or stop the progression of Alzheimer's or Parkinson's, it can actually START TO HEAL IT. He's not just blowing smoke wiht his claims - everything is based on actual scientific research that has been peer-reviewed and replicated so it's solid stuff. Anyway, I am fascinated and even though it has been a very slow read for me because it has so much information in it, I'm really enjoying it!!
I'll be very interested to hear how you react to that book and also more about the other one, which I have never heard about. Let me know!!
