The other advantages of the mask are:
1. It is inexpensive enough to be replaced.
2. It is small enough to fold in half and put in your pocket.
3. It prevents you from inhaling exhaust fumes.
4. It is excellent for allowing you to breath when going into a head wind.

5. It can be used anytime of the year, not just cold weather but anytime you are walking into a
head wind, or in the city with car exhausts.

What a great idea for a thread. These tips are very useful and proves how so many of you don't let the cold weather interfere with your walking goals. Well done.

balaklavas work on the same principle - covering the mouth & nose so you're breathing in warm air. If you're worried about germs, they're washable. I have 7 so I can have 1 to wear on the days I'm washing the others.

Great idea. I usually wear a scarf over my mouth and nose. I can wrap and unwrap it as I go and adjust the scarf to my needs.

I also wear long underwear on the bottom and extra socks. I layer the top and wear a cap and ear muffs.

That is a good reminder and good idea. I have problems in being outdoors in cold weather.

Wear a face mask,( like the ones sold for painting, to keep dust, etc out) this will allow you to breath in warm moist air; prevent breathiing in cold air into warm lungs. It will also prevent reathing in most allergens and pollutants floating around.

Yes, I do it all the time, especially, when I'm going into a head wind.
