I reading some books on how to save money and be frugal. I have "THE TIGHTWAD GAZETTE" which is from 1995 but has a lot of good main ideas. I want to read some new books and will get them from the library. Pensacola State College has a large selection, as does UWF Library. You don't have to be a student to get a card there.

I've discovered E-reader where you can get books for $1.99 or less. I'm reading something that I cant even tell you the name of but it has hooked me in. I also finished another read quickly. Most of these cheapies are romance novels. Quick and dirty. The last one I read was about a Boston girl in the late 1890's who went to live in Montana and fell in love with the cowboy help. This new one is about a pastry chef who goes to France to school and work. It actually has published recipes that she is baking and also dabbling in a boyfriend in France and one in Seattle. This is the second in a series. I dont usually read this kind of fluff but it has drawn me in. Carol

Amy Tan, "One hundred Secret Senses". Of course, it was very good. Her book "Bonesetter's Daughter" was very good as I read it several years ago. "JOY LUCK CLUB" was a classic. Haven't read "KITCHEN GOD'S WIFE", but will.

Read "HUCK FINN" and it was pretty good, as I never read it as a kid. I hated Tom Sawyer as he was a "Dennis the Menace" in my mind.

I finished reading "ON THE ROAD" by Jack K. and hated it, but it was about the BEAT Generation after WW2, and not my kind of people. But it is a classic book.

I read The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, then finished the series (Girl Who Played With Fire, & Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest). I really enjoyed them all. I have Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter, but have not started it yet. I am currently working on Freedom, which is the follow-up to Deamon.

TheBriefWondrousLifeofOscarWaobyJunotDíaz This book is about the Dominican Republic and a DR boy who grows up in New Jersey. The author is a writing professor at MIT in Boston and he won the PULITZER PRIZE for the novel. Thus the reason I read it.

I decided to read every PP winning novel, and then go back and read the 4 other books that were up for the PP but didn't win that year, so I have a lot of books to read. I didn't care much for this book, but read it anyway, which is the reason I'm doing this: to broaden my mind. I'm a college level reader so these books challenge my ability. (Most books are written at an 8th grade reading level, like Danielle Steel, etc.)

I read "THE ROAD" by Cormac McCarthy. and hated it, but again it won the PP so I finished it. The story was made into a movie, and is about the world after a natural disaster (they don't say, but it is NOT a nuclear war, but probably an asteroid strike, or YellowStone National Park's Super Volcano has blown-up.)

I'm finishing "THE STONE DIARIES" by Carole Shield, which won the PP in 1995. She was born in 1905, 3 years before my mother, so I see the character, Daisy, as in the time frame of my mother's life. The book is boring, but that is the point of Daisy's life, as she is a proper WOMAN of the time. Makes u grateful for our time period.

My favorite book is "ANGELA'S ASHES" by Frank McCourt and by far the best ever.

I also, read, the PP winning novel "THE KNOWN WORLD" by Edward Jones, and it was good, as it is about "THE LAW" for that time period, since the lead characters are "free blacks" who own slaves in the South in 1840's. It isn't "Gone With The Wind" at all, nor is it overly cruel, but deals with typical farm life. It is well worth reading.

Thanks for sharing--I love recommendations. I recently finished a book by Carl Hiaasen named "Double Whammy". He is described as a comic crime novelist. It was written in the late 80's and my brother recommended it. He met the author who I think he said is also a friend of columnist Dave Barry. I don't like scary. This made me chuckle many times. It is graphic in places but I still enjoyed it. I have just started another of his books titled "Sick Puppy".

I used to read all the time and when I get started, I get nothing else done. But lately, I haven't read anything but magazines. I have several books laying there in wait including some Tom Clancy's that I bought ages ago, a couple of titles by Carl Hiaasen that my Brother just sent me and a couple of classics that I want to re-read.

Maybe your enthusiasm will get me started again.

Lately I've been using books as a way to wind down at night - I forget sometimes how much I enjoy reading.

I'm starting Digital Fortress by Dan Brown tonight. Anybody read that?

What are you currently reading or have read lately that's good stuff? I just finished a really weird book titled Kings of Infinite Space by James Hynes.

Please share!!!
