So despite a beautiful day outside, I needed to work on indoor projects. That's a bummer. So I texted a friend and scheduled a bike ride after work. My friend was running late, worked out well as I was able to get a pre ride on my own which doubled the time we were out riding. A great way to end my day.

A beautiful day of sunshine and weather temps cool enough that a light jacket is required if you aren't keeping busy. Feels and appears more like early Fall for those of us in the northern midwest. Leaves are dropping and in my yard that means either raking or mowing and also a game of exercise I call pick up sticks. Spent an hour doing just that yesterday. How is it that even your neighbors trees seem to drop all their twigs/branches and leaves in your yard?

Do you get some of your exercise like I do taking care of a yard/garden? Just wish these days came with the sun setting later in the day not earlier.

I'm inspired by the athletes every time the Olympics come around. I was inspired to incorporate some sprinting in my workouts, and to do some more weightlifting.

After the spotty internet this past week,I was just now able to catch up on emails and as I skimmed through one SP article caught my eye "are you ready to start improving your eating/diet, 7 things to check on first". SP has had some really good articles on improving health, so I scanned the article and it was a good reminder of things to take into account when attempting to lose weight and how challenging it is to maintain a weight loss.

I would like to think that by using SP's support system we will not only beat those odds but contribute to increasing the success in maintaining weight loss.

Where do the minutes go? Had a busy and funfilled day with errands, fishing for dinner and a new project this year being the one to clean the fish. Gives you an appreciation of all the effort and work involved when 'the boss' hands over the reigns of an activity (fish cleaning and fileting) not as easy as it looks. I can see why he was always tired at the end of our fishing days.

Indoor projects this morning and weather permitting and fishing this afternoon. Lets hope they are biting so we have dinner.

Today I will be attending the family "end of summer" (sort of) barbecue. I am the chef.

The local school board has the seasons all skewed. School starts the beginning of August, Labor Day is the beginning of September, it stays hot until the first of October. I don't know when summer really ends, I guess at the first snowfall but whatever, the barbecue is today. Chicken, ribs, brunswick stew a redneck's delight!

Goal setting: yesterday I set myself a small goal to work on the 'project', didn't shut down the computer till closer to midnight, which I admit was a little too late. However, I did the same thing that worked yesterday, gave myself a reasonable start time in the morning and worked throughout the day with short breaks. It helped that it was so warm today that I really didn't want to spend a lot of time outside, after my morning walk that is.

I am procrastinating this morning and frustrating myself. So I have given myself a time deadline in which to begin a project. I don't want to look at the end of the day and wonder what did I accomplish?

Do you have those projects that are just mentally tough to begin? Is one of them why you are on SP? They say small steps are the way to start. So with that being said, my goal is to start my project at 10:15 and spend 30 minutes focused only on the project.

Was good to see other people (even if it was in the dark) walking in my neighborhood this evening. Temps were good, humidity still high in the 70s but bearable and the stars were shining which always makes for a more interesting walk.

Out on the river kayaking this morning and the weather was beautiful. All kinds of nature to enjoy, exercise doing something I really enjoy and now time to get back outside for more sunshine.

Was watching a monarch butterfly feeding on of all things the butterfly bush in my back yard. Just when I went to snap a picture, the butterfly flew off and as I watched him/her fly around the yard, it made me think of how much some creatures have to work to maintain their survival. After all, you don't see an overweight butterfly emoticon

So maybe before we eat each meal/snack we should have to do some type of activity to help keep us at a healthier weight.....

A great way to end the day, music on the lake. Plus was able to get strength exercises done before we went. So many choices in the summer months of activities that it's sometimes hard to choose (there were two free music events we could have gone to less than a mile apart).

Nearing the end of the day and while it was a 'fun' evening after work, I need a little bit more accountability to myself at the end of the this day. So will look at Thursday as a a new day and challenge myself to be in line with nutrition. Which obviously means I was not today on track with nutrition, which in the overall of a week to have day off track I am fine with but I was coming off a weekend that was a little heavy on the calories so I need to keep myself in line so I don't start a spiral in the wrong direction.

A compromise day, had to study inside and it was beautiful outside. So I stayed on task with studying from a.m. to mid day and breaks were functional: wash dishes, laundry, eat and bathroom breaks. Did some strength training with resistance bands and now late afternoon, trying to use the computer outside to finish home work.

Do you have days that you have to compromise? I know that if I start off with the task that needs to get done, then I am much more likely to stay on task as well. So we will see how much I have accomplished at the end of the day.

What do you have to do when you have 'assignments' that must be done but it's a beautiful day to play?

Despite the menacing clouds a great day to be outdoors on the water. A combo of leisurely floating as well as paddling so we could enjoy nature in peace and quiet (some of the other paddlers were looking to party).
For me kayaking is about enjoying the surroundings the wildlife we can see, the call of the birds and being safe. That means no radios on the water and absolutely no liquor (unlike the guy with his 12 pack today.)
Do you have a part of nature that you enjoy? Hope you get to spend some time doing a fun activity outdoors on Sunday.

So what do you do when you don't have electricity, well cooking out on the gas grill is one option, another is out to dinner and being active such as walking and biking (unfortunately in the rain, but we did dry).

So in other words you make the best of it and are thankful when the electricity is back on, much appreciated fans for sleeping or ac as it was a little warm.

What do you do when life offers a challenge? I hope your answer was something along the lines of you work through it.

Did You Know ?


1. Your shoes are the first thing people subconsciously notice about
you. Wear nice shoes.

2. If you sit for more than 11 hours a day, there's a 50% chance
you'll die within the next 3 years.

3. There are at least 6 people in the world who look exactly like you.
There's a 9% chance that you'll meet one of them in your lifetime.

4. Sleeping without a pillow reduces back pain and keeps your spine stronger.

5. A person’s height is determined by their father,
and their weight is determined by their mother.

6. If a part of your body "falls asleep", You can almost always "wake
it up" by shaking your head.

7. There are three things the human brain cannot resist noticing,
food, attractive people and danger.

8. Right-handed people tend to chew food on their right side

9. Putting dry tea bags in gym bags or smelly shoes will absorb the
unpleasant odour.

10. According to Albert Einstein, if honey bees were to disappear from

issues of the past, negative thoughts or things you cannot control.
Instead invest your energy in the positive present moment.

27. Eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince and dinner like a
college kid with a maxed out charge card.

28. Life isn't fair, but it's still good.

29. Life is too short to waste time hating anyone. Forgive them for everything.

30. Don't take yourself so seriously. No one else does.

31. You don't have to win every argument. Agree to disagree.

32. Make peace with your past so it won't spoil the present.

33. Don't compare your life to others. You have no idea what their
journey is all about.

34. No one is in charge of your happiness except you.

35. Frame every so-called disaster with these words:
'In five years, will this matter?'

36. Help the needy, Be generous! Be a 'Giver' not a 'Taker'.

Don't wish away your summer. Tonight was out with friends listening to a summer outdoor concert, when one of the friends started talking about upcoming concerts in the fall and at Christmas time. EEKS lets enjoy the summer days we have left and look forward to fall events in the fall.

Have you been making the most of each day? Do you look back over the past 8 weeks and think I am happy with the choices I have made? If not, time to look forward to what changes you can start making. If you are happy with the past two months a big emoticon
