I am working on homework late, usually, with no extra calories to spare by that time. I figure that if I eat healthfully, or at least fulfill something that I was a few grams short on, fiber, protein, etc. and journal it anyway, especially if I go over for the day, it is motivation to stay on plan the next day. And I don't allow myself to feel guilty because 1)yes, I am actually hungry, not just craving, 2)it is good to keep your blood sugars in line, despite the time of night and 3)if I eat moderately, and choose healthy foods, it doesn't set me back too much.
Leahth, I know exactly where're you're coming from. I'm an administrator at an arts school, so I work 40+ evening concerts a year, and I'm always hungry when I get home. I don't have any perfect solutions, but here are the ideas I try to use. I try to keep lean sandwich fixings, pre washed salad stuff and fruit at home (or swing by the grocery store on my way home to pick it up.)That way, you have a relatively healthful and quick meal when you get home. If I had a full meal at supper time, I go for something like whole wheat crackers with light cream cheese or hummus - quick and not too heavy (and little clean up). Try to avoid flavored drinks (even caffeine free) - I think they stimulate the appetite. Hope this is of some help. Carren
