I would like to become a full fledged vegan. I want to learn to grow my own veggies and fruits. I want to become a better cook with all natural ingrediants. I'm working on cutting out all things (soaps, makeup, and all that jazz) thats been tested on animals, or (clothes) made from animals. I want to learn to really live off the land in an animal and nature friendly way, when I get a home I want to be one of those gals who would rather leave the window open instead of running the air conditioning. I want to learn how to make eco-friendly home-made candles, that way I can learn to use less electricity, unplug all the appliances when not in use. And eventually I'd like to invest in solar pannels.
I also want to start growing some of my own fruits/veggies. I don't own where I live as I am a live-in nanny, but I may be able to start something small. The family likes to eat fruits and veggies so I bet they would be open to it.
I'd like to grow my own fruits and veggies, but currently I still rent. This is the first year that I have planted anything, and have a small herb garden in a planter going, as well as cucumbers, tomatos, and sweet peppers. My friend and I have begun carpooling, and we'd like to make this a constant. I'll be going to the Farmers Market this year for my produce needs. I currently recycle, just wish there was a place that accepted the #5 plastics. When I own my own home, I have so many hopes for living green!
We just made an offer on our first home last night! Hopefully soon we'll be using more efficient faucets, start composting, & catching rainwater! & then I'll have enough room to expand our recycling from just plastics, aluminum, and glass & I'm also looking into ways to make my toliet more water friendly too!

I will be remodeling my house soon and hope to incorporate lots of green elements! Even small changes make a big difference! I purchased a rain barrel a couple of years ago and have never made the time to get it up and going, but this is the year! Maybe I will work on that today! I am also checking into the cost of an on demand water heater for the daycare house since we have to replace the one that is there currently! Money is tight, but I might just put it on a credit card!

This year I have many plans. I am putting in a vegetable garden. This is a challenge because the dirt has to be hauled in for it. We live in the mountains and the soil is mostly rock and on a steep slope. I am going to make raised beds in a tiered platform so I can get the most out of my space. I will be making a worm composting box for all of my kitchen scraps and maybe (hopefully) a compost tumbler. I also plan to explore making a solar oven, and solar para-boiler out of a used satellite dish (the small kind). A water collection system is also in the thinking stage.

Once we buy our house later this year I want to start hanging more of our clothes out to dry; I want to get rain barrels for the xerophytes I hope to plant; I'd LOVE to install solar panels; I want more energy efficient window coverings than the ones we've seen in the area; I definitely want energy efficient washer& dryer combo (the ones we're using in the rental unit is 15 y.o.& top loader-yuck!). I'd like some kind of efficient recycling system, too, and maybe a trash compactor, altho we have so little trash that may bee a moot point. Would love to get a worm bin or compost going agin. Things are so much different here in AZ thann in Seattle that I'm going to have to learn a whole new way to garden.
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, ... , body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO HOO what a ride!"
What is something you want to get/start doing that would be going even greener?? I would like to get a rain barrel. I will be hanging my clothes out to dry instead of using dryer soon. Want to start using Farmers Market in town instead of buying from store.
