I don't have a rain garden, but I have a rain barrel (actually just a large tub).
I put some goldfish in it because I was getting mosquito larvae, and some aquatic plants to hide the fish and to help oxegynate the water.
I also use some of that water periodically to water the tomatoes, fishy poop water vs. fish emulshion.

I live in an apt so no chance for to do that. Not yet. We are planning moving (buying) a house next year and around here I do know of a company that installs a system to collect and storage rain water... It is something I definitely will look into when the time comes.

I'm looking into creating one in my front yard to catch some of the run-off from a downspout. Would love to hear any advise from someone who has one already!
