The paper recycling containers have been passed out and my building seems to have been passed by. Called the township where a rep said they will look into it.

I live just min from landfill, it is in my township so we get waste removal free as long as we deliver. they have 3 dumpster for us to use 1 for trash, 1 for cardboard, & 1 for recyclable. But I have been wondering lately if they really sort the mixed recycles b/c I have heard that some of the places really don't even when they are claiming they do. Can you believe that why wouldn't they?
It really bothers me b/c last year they put a big red balloon up to show where the landfill was estimated to be at in 10 years, it was higher than my house which is up in the mountain behind landfill! The worse thing is we have more trash coming in off the PA Turnpike from New York & New Jersey then we do our own state trucks. I guess PA doesn't think it has enough of it's own trash we need to ship in from out of state!

I can't change my past, but I can change my future!

I don't know how these new containers will work for my apartment building but at my daughter's single family home, they have incentives for weight and give gift certificates.

Great news for my area! Our waste management company is now passing out covered receptacles for paper and cardboard! They haven't gotten to my street yet but I'm very excited. Not more tying, Only flattening cardboard and we'll be able to put in envelopes with windows and junk mail, cereal boxes, etc.

I think that's great! I wish we could get our waste management company to do that but we sometimes have a hard time just getting them to pick up the trash period. They don't even care about recycling!

"...I'd love to know if this pushes people to reduce and recycle. Or do they toss their trash someplace else?"

I think it would depend on the person.

I wish we had that option! In my town you pay a flat fee along with your utility bill. So even though we do have weeks where there's not enough to throw out, we still pay. I know there are some places where you pay by the number of bags or by weight, but I'd love to know if this pushes people to reduce and recycle. Or do they toss their trash someplace else?

Despite the fact we recycle everything possible, the amount of garbage we produce still annoys me. I would love to be able to reduce it.

I have my trash picked up every other week rather then once a week, a new neighbor that I thought had forgot to take their trash out, told me about this.

Check with your local waste management company, it's a little cheaper, and it really helps with how you throw things out!

I have yet been able to fill that trash can up even in two weeks time.

I'm happy with this progress.
