I live just min from landfill, it is in my township so we get waste removal free as long as we deliver. they have 3 dumpster for us to use 1 for trash, 1 for cardboard, & 1 for recyclable. But I have been wondering lately if they really sort the mixed recycles b/c I have heard that some of the places really don't even when they are claiming they do. Can you believe that why wouldn't they? It really bothers me b/c last year they put a big red balloon up to show where the landfill was estimated to be at in 10 years, it was higher than my house which is up in the mountain behind landfill! The worse thing is we have more trash coming in off the PA Turnpike from New York & New Jersey then we do our own state trucks. I guess PA doesn't think it has enough of it's own trash we need to ship in from out of state!

Great news for my area! Our waste management company is now passing out covered receptacles for paper and cardboard! They haven't gotten to my street yet but I'm very excited. Not more tying, Only flattening cardboard and we'll be able to put in envelopes with windows and junk mail, cereal boxes, etc.

I wish we had that option! In my town you pay a flat fee along with your utility bill. So even though we do have weeks where there's not enough to throw out, we still pay. I know there are some places where you pay by the number of bags or by weight, but I'd love to know if this pushes people to reduce and recycle. Or do they toss their trash someplace else?
