DH & I are trying to plan our veggie garden for the season. It's been pouring rain in Eastern Canada so it's going to have to wait. It's so nice to see buds coming out finally...
In the back of our yard there is a large concrete slab where a garage use to stand. We are considering building a raised -bed garden on top of it next year. I think it will be a great way to use the space, plus it would be easier to weed and tend. We'll consider making rows that are around 2ftx10ft with walking space between them.
Do any of you check out David Suzuki's website? There is some interesting info on building bee houses. I really want to do this this summer.
The kinds that are hardest to kill :-) I have a pretty big variety acutally b/c my uncle has a greenhouse/nursery/landscaping business in Maine so I get free stuff - yay! :-) But also a lot of stuff that was there when I moved in.
Main stuff I have (spelling errors aside): day lilies, hostas, daisies, roses, azalea, rhodedendrun, irisis, creeping phlox, astilbe, portialaca, cedum, lupines, tulips, daffodils, crocuses, lung wart. and then a whole slew of stuff that i forget the name of :-)
I had an amazing weekend. The Denver Green Festival was this past weekend. I had been anticipating it for a while since I served on the host committee since September. For me the best was to hang with other "minorities" that are part of the green movement. That wasn't the focus of the event, but it gave me a chance to connect and reconnect with folks from around the country that flew in. As per most green events there weren't many of us.
The best three things I got to do: 1. Use media pass to shoot some of the event, I got Denver's mayor to pose in his green foliage jacket 2. Hang with eco-chef Bryant Terry, he was also on NPRs The Splendid Table this weekend promoting his new book Vegan Soul Kitchen 3. Watch kids get really pumped about simple ways to generate electricity with a bike and play with compost worms
