I bought my Diva Cup online last year. Even though I'm closer to Menopause I figured- better late than never... Here's a link to a company that was cheaper than most (and in my state) www.southcoastshopping.com/?page=sho

Thanks for sharing all this information! I've never heard anything about all this options... they're harder to find in my country. But I'll try, I'm very positive about it after all this hints!

Thanks!

I have definitely considered my options, tried the keeper, etc, but in the end, I have stuck with organic cotton applicator free tampons. The waste is less, and there isn't the chemical burden of rayon and pesticides. It was a compromise for sure. All cotton tampons are also compostable...

I'm not afraid of the blood, I'm afraid of the germs. Public restrooms are nasty! I'm away from the house 11-12 hours a day too.

Anyway, thanks for the answer to my question. Perhaps some day... ;-)

about public restrooms, like i said you most ladies can go about ten hours without needing to empty it, if you come to the rare time or two that you need to empty it, just empty it into the toilet, wipe out with toilet paper, re insert. the next time you have privacy you can wash it in a sink when you get home. its no big deal its not like its dirty or anything. It's just healthy blood, don't be afraid of it! emoticon

I couldn't deal wit the Diva cup but Gladrags sells natural sea sponges that work very well. Around $12 for two and they last for a year if taken care of properly.
For the public restroom question, clean sponge in a leak proof bag and just switch with the used one. Rinse it when you get home. This works well for the reusable pads as well.

Wash your hands before you go in, remove, dump, reinsert, rewash hands, no problem.... But I hear you - it's a very individual decision.

I do a lot of crazy stuff for this planet but I'm not sure I can ever do this one. Don't get me wrong - I love that so many of you do it but I just can't quite get there. What do you do in public restrooms? Thankfully my period is super light and stops at night so I use very few products... but I do still feel guilty. Not saying I'll never change my mind on this... but... back to the public restroom question!?

Hee hee - this thread comes around once in a while - always w/ a big LADIES FILTER attached. Absolutely 100% on board with you on this one. LOVE my DivaCup. A quick word of warning though - it may take a couple months to get the hang of it, esp if you have a tipped cervix. Use a backup pad but DON'T GIVE UP! I am never going back to the dark side....

I totally agree. I've heard excelent things about the Diva cup. Personally I use gladrags. I've never been fond of tampons, and prefer the way they work like pads.

The water from soaking them is also good for the garden.

Okay gentlemen, if you're reading this, I suggest you turn back now. I'm fairly certain you don't want to know about us gal's monthly friend. If you do, all the power to ya, either way, that's what this note is about. you've been warned!

Okay ladies, here's the thing. I've become an advocate for re-usable female hygiene products. It would do our earth some good if you gave it a try.

Back in High School, my friend Marie, was the first one to try these things. I wanted to because I knew how good it was for the environment, but at the time I chickened out because I worried they wouldn't work as well. But the longer I used common methods of feminine hygiene, the worse I felt for what I was doing to the environment.

Did you know that, the average woman creates about TWO TRANSPORT TRUCKLOADS FULL OF FEMININE PRODUCT WASTE??!

think about that. that's a lot for one gal, now think about how many women DO that. The facts are mind boggling.

That's why I'm Urging you to do the switch. Because we can't just set up camp somewhere else once we've destroyed the earth.

When I started talking to friends about switching to cloth pads, I mentioned to my friend Christine, my preference for tampons. That's when she told me about her Diva cup. A reusable menstrual cup, that can last past a year! I got mine...I'd honestly NEVER switch back to disposables again! So comfy, and really reliable. you can wear one for 10 hours before emptying!
And there is no risk of Toxic Shock Syndrome. Unlike tampons, the cup can't absorb your harmful bacteria and send it back to you, it's made of silicone. And it's approved by health Canada.

I'm begging you not to be afraid of change. If we don't start to change together, there won't be a world for our children to grow up in.

Blessings

-Cynthia
