I also am thinking about joining a gym, and I have heard good things about Planet Fitness. I'm still unable to join just yet because of costs (and lack of money, I have heard about the "bare bones" of Planet Fitness. Just make sure you bring your own towel!!!
Hey I am not sure if you already got your answer but I would DEFINATELY recommend Plant Fitness over Body Renew. I am pretty savvy when it comes to work out equipment, I've been working out off and on for years now BUT I couldn't figure hardly anything out at Body Renew.. Also, the treadmill is like 2 feet off the ground, kinda makes me uneasy LOL. Planet Fitness is more of a real gym.. (((you dont have to take your street shoes off when you walk in,,unlike body renew))) and I feel pretty at home there.
Next time you think you're perfect try walking on water.
Oh and I forgot, Powerhouse has a student discount. It's a good gym if you like fitness classes. Let me know if you end up at Planet Fitness; we can be workout buddies! At least until I leave on Aug. 27th for Juneau.

I joined Planet Fitness a few weeks ago and am happy there. I've never had to wait for a cardio machine even during peak hours. It just sucks if you forget to bring your own headphones for the cardio cable or towel. It is bare bones as far as amenities---as you prob noticed on your visit. Also, free bagel morning on the second tuesday of the month! :)

how about the Y ? The Anchorage YMCA is a full service YMCA facility. It includes a gym, indoor track, full cardio and weight training equipment, program rooms, a childcare program, aerobics studio, and a saltwater pool.
I know they have a great Aquacize program - if I still lived in town I would be there! www.ymcaalaska.org/

Taken a look at the Alaska Club? Their new month-to-month membership fits a lot of people's lives better than the old contract. And there are swimming pools, racket sports, and a HUGE variety of group fitness classes, including Zumba, the latest fun Latin dance workout. Although I know some people like to work out alone on their own terms, being in a class is really motivating and helps you progress and stay consistent. They'll let you try before you join.
What would you do if you knew you could not fail?
