Hi everyone! It's almost 2 am so just a quick check in. I actually spent like 20 minutes last night typing a post and answering everyone...however for some reason when I went to post it wonderful Sparkpeople said I had used "Profane language" and it wasn't allowed! HUH???? So I went back to see if I possibly misspelled something, cause there was no profane language, and POOF my post was erased! So I have no idea what I did or what happened. But I was too tired to re-type the whole thing so I will try to catch up with everyone tomorrow. Just wanted to fill you all in on what's been happening. It has been a very emotional weekend starting with Friday. As you know my dear friend Jim is battling lung cancer. He is thankfully doing fine. However 4 am Friday morning he found his live-in girlfriend dead on their kitchen floor. They think it was a cerebral hemorrhage. So it has not been a fun last few days. I am emotionally drained. I will catch up with everyone tomorrow and I promise happier news. Just wanted to let everyone know why I haven't posted in a few days. Hope everyone is well. Have a great Tuesday! Love 'em and hug 'em while you can! Hugs!

There is a song on a show that my Grand Kids watch and I think it applies : "Keep trying, keep trying, don't give up, never give up" I intend to keep trying and I will never give up till I reach my goal!

Nothing happens overnight. Remember one pound lost is one pound closer to your goal.

Get up every morning, take a deep breath & make it the best day that you possibly can.

With you all in spirit everyday.....Gery

Tammy - What a great visual I had of your cat landing on those balloons! Thank you so much for the huge smiles and chuckles I got imagining it's reaction! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon Your jams sound awesome, and I bet the salsa is great too - but the hot peppers would not do well with my system..... My sons both have loud voices most of the time, but it's the older son's 2 little boys that I find hard to take. They make their Daddy and Uncle Shawn sound like whisperers!

Dee - 'Granny Dad' is great, but I did enjoy it when Emily referred to him as "Uh - Oh" too. I'm sure that he will eventually get 'Grandad ' from her, but for now 'Granny Dad ' is hilarious, at least to the rest of the family if not so much for my DH.
.
Welcome to August everyone!!!

Dee,
My DH is out of town for a week so I am trying to get as much done while he is away as possible, that way I can enjoy the clean house for a day or two at least.
I know I feel bad when the kittens look at me after I spray them but they need to learn and it is working so its all good. I had a cat that used to get in the trash at night so I ended up filling it with balloons and the cat jumped in it that night and popped the balloons and it scared her so bad she never got into the trash again, and I have used double sided tape on counters and tables, and that works to keep them off also.

Kathy that sounds like my DH family, I am quiet and when they get together its all I can do to spend an hour with all of them because they are all loud and fun, but I get overwhelmed after a bit. 11 that’s a lot, I bet you were ready for some quiet time.
It sounds like you had a lot of fun with little Emily, I love that age, they learn so fast and its so much fun to watch that happen.
The kittens found a piece of bubble wrap from a package and they really like it. It’s a work in progress, they have done ok today with me just removing them from my desk.
I made raspberry and blackberry, and mixed fruit with blackberry rasp, and strawberry, all of it sugar free. And the salsa was peeled tomatoes and green chilies and onion and jalapenos and garlic, and cilantro, and vinegar and sugar substitute.
Lori has one that has no vinegar in it, I will see if I can can it or not. I made SF bread and butter pickles yesterday, they turned out really good. I tasted the raspberry jam yesterday and it is really good, It didn’t set up like the ones from the store but it tastes so much fresher, it was worth the work picking the berries.
Great job on your 30 day streak, that is impressive.

Sandy it looks like you are busy as usual, I have been getting a lot more exercise in because I am on another team that has challenge's every day of the week except one. So I try to do my part and it is really helping me to make it a habit. I used to think it was impossible to do that much exercise but I am getting the hang of it.

Sbibl great job on the weight loss and sticking to it, it gets easier over time just hang in there. And continue doing what works for you.

Judy yes I agree about worrying about the important stuff, I wish I would have learned that when I was younger, I was a slave driver, and I made myself and my family crazy trying to keep a clean and pristine house.
Summers here are always nice and warm very few storms during the summer, in this area a nice cool down for a storm would be welcome, we had 30 days of over 90 last month and 12 of those were over 100. I think it was hotter than normal though. I love the winters here, they are not as cold as the other part of the state I moved from, so I have to take the good with the bad, the summers in Eastern Idaho are absolutely wonderful but the winters are cold and long.
Well I think I am caught up on the posts, I guess I should go do the few dishes in the sink, or not!
Have a great day

Happy Saturday!

Kathy, Glad you enjoyed the movies and some family time. My how fast they grow...I love that she calls him Granny dad.

Sandy you are doing great getting your exercise in.

emoticon SBIBLE emoticon Slow & steady is the way to go!

Gery, that's good news about Jim. I hop you have those nosebleeds under control.

Berta emoticon so glad you found something that works for you. You can do this....no insulin for you!!!

Beulah, I pray all went well with your son's CAT scan.

Judy, I'm sorry to hear about your espresso machine. I hope you can save and find one that is not too expensive soon.

Tammy, I have a friend ho had great success with the spray bottle. I know just what you mean about your house always looking lived in. I feel the same way. Unless, I'm the only one home, I just cannot keep up with it. It seem no sooner to a clan something, someone goes behind me and undoes what I just did!!! I don't get much company either but it still bothers me. I can hear my mother saying, "You never know when someone may drop by! "
I seem to be losing the battle!

It's cloudy here in NJ with showers on & off. First a little cleaning then DH & I are going food shopping.
I hope whatever you do you have a great day!

Abundant Blessings, Dee

A big HELLO to everyone tonight, especially to the newest members of the team -- WELCOME!!!

It's been a busy week here, more than usual. We had company for dinner on Monday as well as Wednesday too. DH's birthday was Monday, so we ended up with 11 of us at the table, just missing were our DIL (working) and the 2nd youngest offspring who lives in the States. We had a lovely time with everyone, but it was nice to say so long to all of them too - they are LOUD!!!

Youngest DD Meaganne and I took the old coot to a double movie treat on Thursday afternoon, for his birthday . We saw Red 2 which was almost as good as Red - lots of great laughs and action. Then came The Heat - which he had not seen before, but DD and I had. These are both movies that we will definitely buy when they come out on DVD.

With such nice weather here most of the week, I've been able to spend a lot of time enjoying our deck and back yard, Today I spent the better part of 3 1/2 hours outdoors weeding, pruning, tidying up, planting a few new perennials, and best of all... just simply relaxing on the deck for part of that time.

Our precious little Emily is all of 20 months old now, and her vocabulary is growing by the minute - sometimes with hilarious results... She has finally figured out that Mike's name really isn't "Uh - Oh" and now calls him 'Granny - dad ', which is almost as much fun for the rest of us. LOL She wished him a 'Happy Barfday" and when questioned about how old he is now she smiled and said ' millions', only it came out sounding more like "minions" Cracked us all up - except him of course..... She loved being out on our deck when she was here, and spent most of the time smelling all the flowers in the pots on the deck - including the green peppers and tomatoes... but the dirt smelled best apparently. She's the only person I've ever met who can make "smell" have 2 syllables when she says it.

Berta - How wonderful to see you again! You have been sorely missed, my friend! Congratulations on the success with your new food plan - maybe this is the one that will really work best for you, so you won't require taking Insulin!!! I sure hope so! You bread sounds very tasty! My DD Meaganne has a bread maker and loves to try all sorts of different things in it during the cooler / wintery weather.

Beulah - That's great that you have been able to use the pool again! I wish that I had access to one myself. I would really love to be able to go swimming ! I hope all went well with your son's CAT scan today!

Judy - I'm sure you are missing the coffee machine, but since I hate both the smell and taste of the stuff, I think you are far better off not replacing it! emoticon emoticon The whole problem with laundry is that it REPRODUCES itself on a regular basis - either being dirty or needing to be folded and put away - with nary a break between both sides of the story... emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Sbible - Just keep taking things one small step at a time, and it will fall into place! Don't give up on yourself. We all have setbacks - some that feel insurmountable, and some that feel more like a small pebble in our path. Congratulations on the 2 lbs gone! Well done!

Sandy - You remind me of those old commercials for the Everready " Energizer Bunny " - that kept on going and going and GOING!!! I don't know how you accomplish all the things you do on a daily basis. You are truly amazing to me!!!

Tammy - That is a whole lot of peanut butter!!! It would take us years and years to eat that much of the stuff. What kind of jam and salsa did you make? What about trying some bubble wrap on the counter / table/ keyboard ? I have heard that cats do not like the noise it makes when one of the bubbles snap. Or perhaps rattling a pop can that has a few pebbles / marbles - anything that will make a loud noise - inside it (tape over the opening so they don't fall out). Again, it's that whole "startle" effect.

Dee - You have had a busy week my friend! A 3 day seminar on teaching Algebra - yuck! LOL (Not a math fan here, obviously.....) Congratulations on still managing to get in your 10,000 daily steps too! That is so awesome!!!

Gery - Glad to hear that Jim has a bit of a break in the treatment! Did we know that Mike and Jena share the same birthday? (Only he's really, really, REALLY old and she isn't! LOL) What are Olivia and Gabriel up to these days?

Kathy

Hi Team,
Sorry I've been missing this week. I had 3 full days of professional development workshops on strategies for teaching algebra. It was very informative but I left my house at 7 am and didn't get home until 4 pm at which point I started reviewing my notes and visiting websites. I was on information overload! Since I was sitting all day I had to also get in my 10,000 steps. Today is Day 38. With summer half over I had to do some reflecting, I wrote a blog on my progress and what I need to do from here. www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_jo

Busy day at work today (once/week at my husband's office). I got home late after not having lunch. Hopefully my sacrifice will be rewarded on the scale!

Tammy, hopefully the spray bottle will work. My mom, and then me, was adamant about not having cats on counters and tables because of the germs they bring. Her method was a rolled up newspaper, which was about as tough as a noodle, but it scared the cat so he would abandon the behavior immediately. I never tried the spray bottle, but I would think it would deter them. If not, you probably have a newspaper handy! ;) I'm so much less concerned about my house and clutter than I was when I was younger. I guess we just learn to worry about the important stuff and let the other stuff go.

More beautiful weather for us today. It's supposed to continue for a week! What's up with that?! It's August in IA! I sure hope the corn doesn't start drooping! Have a good evening!

Sibibl we are glad you didn’t give up either. There is a lot to offer here on SP I just find the things I need and ignore the rest of it. if there is something we can help you with just holler.

Judy yes my son and DH eat about a jar a week of these smaller jars of PB, and it lasts for about a year so its all good. The kittens do try to attack the dogs, my mellow dog just sniffs them and then ignores them. The other dog gives them the look of watch it, he has actually snapped at them before. Today I was trying to do some online banking and the kittens got up on my keyboard so I got the spray bottle and sprayed them. I really don’t want them up on the keyboard so maybe this will deter them. They were getting up on the kitchen table so I use the spray bottle for that also. I don’t like cats on the table or counters.
That is funny about your laundry being on the table, I am almost to the point that I will admit that I just can’t keep up with the joneses house. My house looks lived in no matter how much I clean and de clutter it, its seems to just appear again, I spend so much time worrying about how messy it looks, but I don’t get that much company so I don’t know why I get so crazy about it.
Have a good evening.

Another beautiful day in IA. We're having some terrific weather! Not sure why!

Beulah, glad you have access to a pool and also wish I did. What great exercise! Good luck to your son with his test.

Berta, it was good to hear from you. Glad you're doing well on SB and that you're liking what you're eating! I think that's half the battle. I don't have a bread machine, but wish I did. Someday....

Gery, my machine is a Gaggia. I have been looking, and have seen an older model (newer than the one I have, though), and it's still $700! With some money saved for impulse purchases, hopefully I won't have to wait too long. Not sure which machine I'll get. While they're still all very similar to the one I have, there are differences that I'll have to think about. I had a friend over for lunch today, and realized as I was leading her through the dining room out onto the porch that a recent basket of laundry was sitting in the dining room, unfolded. Pesky laundry! Even when we do it, it's a problem! Good news for your friend, Jim! I'm sure he'll be glad for the break.

Sbible, keep it up! Slow and steady is the best!

Sandy, you're so good about getting the exercise in! I sure want to emulate that when my feet will cooperate!

Tammy, 36 jars? Wow! Your group must love PB, and .99 sounds like a terrific deal! My espresso maker is a residential one, but a superautomatic: not excellent espresso, but complete ease with only a push of a button for a shot, or a cafe crema or a regular 5 oz. cup of coffee. I am spoiled! Not sure what your kitties want, either. It has been too long since I've had one. They sure are cute, though, and fun to watch! Are they playing with the doggies? I always loved to watch those games!

Hope everyone has a great day tomorrow!

Great job Berta and so glad to hear from you. emoticon

Geri so glad Jim is getting a break, I went shopping today, one of the stores had Jiff PB for .99 so I bought 36 jars! emoticon It will go good with the SF jam I made yesterday and today, I picked the berries for it and everything, It had better be good. I don’t eat many pbj sandwiches anymore, but my DH and DS do.

Isn’t it nice to have a place to let your hair down SBIBL? Slow and steady is the name of the game if you want to maintain the loss I think anyway.

I have never heard of Saturn peaches Sandy. Good job on getting you exercise in. I did some extra walking at the store today so I could get some exercise in also.

Bjumping good job on getting in the pool, I wish I had one available, I should check the price of the rec center but I don’t know if I would use it.

Sorry about your espresso machine Judy, I have a cheap one I never use I should get it out and try it sometime, I just use a regular old coffee maker now. It sound like it lasted a really long time, was it a commercial one?
Yes I am wondering what I was thinking sometimes with the kittens, I need to look online and see if I can figure out what they want, they will jump up every time I get on the computer and meow, I will try to hold them but they don’t want that, and they don’t want to just roam around on the computer desk. Not sure what they want.

Cat good to have you back, I am finding that one bad eating day is not the end of the world. You did very well if you only gained 2 lbs in a couple of weeks, you are getting the hang of this whole deal it sounds like. Good for you. emoticon
Well I guess I should go do the mountain of dishes I made while making jam and salsa. I needed a break so I thought why not check in with my favorite group.
Have a good evening.

Hi Berta!!! Just saw your post! We were posting at almost the same time! Glad you are doing so well and you are liking the new diet. You just may have found what is going to work for you. I am praying for you that this will do the trick so you won't have to use insulin. Keep up the good work. You are doing great! I have a bread machine too, haven't used it in years. Hmmmm...maybe I should get it out again! Take care & stop by again! Big hugs!

HI everyone.....Well today I got my laundry done! Still can't believe somehow I missed Monday! Total sinus fog!!! Jim got the good news that he gets no chemo for the next 3 weeks only radiation. So he gets a little break. He also informed me that he does NOT want to talk about cancer for a while. Soooo..he got a huge long email from me about everything I haven't told him since he started treatment! LOL Should take him a few days to read it! emoticon Hey..what are friend for? emoticon emoticon No nosebleeds for me today, took my antibiotic. So it was a good day.

Beulah....Will be thinking of your son Friday...hope all goes well. Good for you getting in the pool! Must feel good to get back in there!

Judy....What was the brand of espresso machine? Have you tried looking on Amazon for it? Sometimes they have stuff you can't find anywhere else. And sometimes they are cheaper. You forget your laundry too??? Shame on us!! LOL It was funny though. I was standing with my dresser drawer open saying to myself "Why is my underwear almost gone? Wait? What day is it? Holy crap it"s Monday!!! I forgot to do laundry!!!" emoticon Good luck looking for a new machine!

Hope everyone else had a good Tuesday! Tomorrow is grocery shopping day! Yooohooo! NOT! Oh well can't forget that one....I have none on "MY" foods left! LOL Hugs!

Hello Everyone
Just stopping in to say hello .I have made it through my first two weeks of my new lifstyle. I lost 6.2 lbs. So today is my 2nd day on PH2. So far I am really enjoying eating healthy.I didn't think I'd ever say that.BUT I don't want to take insulin so I have to like it!But honestly eating good carbs abd good fats I had no idea would taste so good!

We had fresh green beans and fresh tomatoes and cube stks for dinner tonight, followed by Sugar Free Pistachio pudding with lite Cool Whip MMMMMMM Good!

I made a loaf of bread machine whole grain bread from white whole wheat flour. As I am not to eat any regular white flour.I added sunflower seeds, flax seeds, and chopped walnuts.OH MY it is wonderful!!!!! Not hard and heavy like most wheat homemade breads I was amazed! I am only allowed one starch a day for this week and one fruit a day.But next week I get 2 starch and one fruit then the next week two starch and two fruits.

I will be happy, as then I can have a sandwich instead of a lettuce wrap all the time emoticon . I am supposed to add more in as I go along but I am going to stick with the 2 starch and 2 fruit for most of the time.

Well it sounds like everyone is doing good. And I seeyou have some newbies.

Please take care and I will pop in again one of these days I think of all of you often! emoticon

Hi everyone. My son is going to have a CAT scan on Friday. Today is my 3 time in the pool in 2 weeks hoping to get two more days in before the end of the week.

Hi everyone. I've had a busy several days trying to figure out what to do about my failed superautomatic espresso machine that I have had for almost 10 years. It died on Friday, and a repair has been ruled out. I've spent hours trying to figure out whether we could reasonably (which means affordably) have it fixed, but we don't live near a repair center. Only certain places will repair these machines. Driving for 2.5 hours or shipping to NY is not in the cards for a 10-year old machine. It worked hard for us, making a total of 19,346 cups of espresso, or crema, or regular coffee, so I can't complain too much. Now, though, I have to save to buy another one (expensive), and I'm going through withdrawal (of the ease of having the superautomatic). Whine, whine, whine (right, Tammy??) emoticon I've spent hours on the old machine and now I'll spend hours figuring out what I'll buy when I've got enough cash! Oh well, at least it's not the refrigerator!

So many posts while I've been busy! I won't be able to get through all of them, but I do wish a warm welcome to those I haven't 'met' before!

Tammy, I sure am glad I don't have the kitten! I love cats, but going through the early stages of training either a cat or dog doesn't appeal right now. Maybe once my kids are all gone!

Gery, I hope your friend gets through the chemo as easily as possible. Laundry, schmaundry. I 'forget' all the time to do ours!

Back to my coffeemaker work. Have a good day!

Hi everyone... Started off my day with a nosebleed. So I called in a refill on my antibiotic. Jim had a 10 hour day of chemo/radiation. His big load for the week. The rest of the week is 3 hours a day. I was in such a fog today with my stupid nose I forgot to do laundry! emoticon Good thing we have extra undies emoticon Guess what I will be doing tomorrow? Spent the day watching the kids. It was my daughter Jena's birthday and a friend took her out for the day. So between that and my nose I am ready for bed!
Tammy...thanks for the welcome back. There are so many posts to catch up on. I did see that you made out pretty good on your garage sale! I was out on my deck this afternoon and noticed that one of the cucumber plants that survived the heat wave in my window boxes has a 4 inch cucumber growing! Couldn't believe it!
Hope everyone is doing well. And to all the newbies welcome again! I will slowly try to read and catch up with all of you.
Well I think my bed is calling early tonight. Have a great Tuesday everyone! Hugs!

Hi all,

I have been away for awhile - spent June doing the 4 week Spring Bootcamp and was successful at losing more pounds there...have lost 28 lbs since January, however, I did take the last few weeks off - no tracking but I did continue activity. Happy to say I only gained 2 lbs back...and now back on track again today. I have lost the same weight over and over again, another 8 lbs and I will be in new losing territory - yeah!.

I do feel I am getting better control overall as activity staying up and not going too crazy eating the bad stuff and large portions that got me here. If you fall down and get back up on track quickly I am finding the damage is not as bad and you are in charge of your weight.

All the best everyone - enjoy the rest of summer with all that yummy fruit!

Hi all,

I am tired today but glad that I got 30 minutes of heavy cleaning done at work. Plan to do strength and cardio tomorrow. I am loving the new fitness and nutrition tracker combined. The more you workout, the more you can eat. I still try to stay in the origninal range.

Hope you all are doing well. Five days and no fibro fog.

Hello everyone, I'm back again having regained the weight that I had lost and probably a bit more too. Oh dear, my eating is out of control at night so I'm going to be firm with myself and try very hard. I was thinking of going swimming in the evenings a couple of nights but I feel self conscious to be seen in my swimsuit. Wish I could hypnotise myself or something. XX

My God loves me, he shelters me from harm.

Welcome Aunt of course you belong here, we are glad to have you.

Good to have you back Geri, I feel so bad for your friend, I had a procedure that was compared to a very mild form of chemo and I hated it , I was so sick on the days I had the treatment ,so I bet he is absolutely miserable. But if it helps keep him alive it will be worth it.
I don’t know if I could keep up with 2 little ones anymore, it would take practice and a lot of patience.

Kathy yes the beasties are much happier, I was hosing them down for a few days, then I took them in to get shaved down so it is cooler for them but the A/C feels wonderful. That heat just saps my energy and makes me grumpy. Yes I am bad about exercising the dogs as much as I should, I walk them to the mail about once a week and it is such a chore because they get tangled up and have to stop and smell and pee on everything , it takes me twice as long to go the distance. But they enjoy it. I should make it a goal to walk them more. It would help all 3 of us.
Time to get off the computer, have a great day today.

Hi everyone! Sorry to be MIA for so long. I am doing okay. I have been spending pretty much every night talking to my friend Jim. Chemo is starting to kick in now and he's not feeling too well. He is facing another 10 hour chemo/radiation day on Monday. Every Monday will be like that for the next 6 weeks. Then Tues-Fri he has 3 hour sessions. Monday is also his first evaluation to see if the tumor is responding. On top of everything else the caretaker for his elderly father is in the hospital so he has to stay at his Dad's and take care of him. So I have been trying to cheer him as much as humanely possible. By the time I get done with emails and talking to him I am beat. I am so far behind on posts I am not sure I can catch up.
We took the grand kids camping last weekend. They had a blast. We took them out for the beloved pancakes on Saturday morning. Then shopping. Oh and our tv blew in the trailer...oh what a disaster! NOT. But between them and DH whining we went a bought a new one. They played at the playground, did some mining for gemstones, and then got to see Santa! We made Smores for desert after we got back to our trailer. And Grandma was exhausted! But it was fun too. Today my daughter Jena and I took them to Lowes. They have free workshops for the kids on Saturdays. Today we built a wooden replica of the RC car on Toy Story. Wood, hammer, nails and a 3 and 5 year old....need I say more??? emoticon But we got the job done and they have two cars to play with! Then we went to a car show put on by our fire department. It was fun. All in all I walked 3 miles today! Tomorrow we are celebrating our daughter Jena's 27th birthday. Her actual birthday is Monday but we figured we would do it on Sunday since Billy is home from work.
So life has been busy. I haven't even taken the time to weigh myself but I am staying on plan and doing fine. Hey...maybe I'll get a big surprise when I do?
Welcome to all the newbies!!!!
I will try to catch up with everyone during the week! Too many posts to read in the wee hours of the night...right now my bed is calling.. emoticon Hugs to all...

Kathy....I am here!!! emoticon All is well south of the border! Life is just crazy right now! Hugs!

Evening friends! I hope you are all enjoying your weekend!

It has been a cooler (compared to all the extremes in heat and humidity that were seeming to be never - ending just recently) and very damp day here with lots of rain, which means that all my joints are achy . The fact that I definitely overdid things in the garden yesterday, as well as with all the shopping / walking / lifting heavy things today.... just may have aggravated all the stiff, sore, achy bits too --- duh!

Silver - Just try to take things one little baby step at a time, make your immediate goals as small as you need in order to feel successful. I always find that a small time frame - even if it's only 5 minutes at a time - make it so much easier for me to feel / stay positive. CONGRATULATIONS on weighing less than you did 30 years ago! That is truly emoticon emoticon emoticon

Sandy - You are one amazingly busy lady - you always make me tired just reading of the things you accomplish in one day, even when you aren't feeling so great!

Tammy - So good to know that you finally have you AC up and running again! You will really appreciate it all the more with those hot, hot, hot temps! The beasties will certainly thank you for the cooler lodgings!

Judy - Do stop by and check out beastie pics, especially if you are in need of a smile or two. There are a number of "holiday" shots on my page....... We're bad about NOT walking the dogs these days. With multiples it is all too easy to simply shove them out the door into the securely fenced in yard and let them get their exercise by chasing each other, as well as all the DANGEROUS wildlife like squirrels and birds......

Sbible - This is definitely the place to connect with others, so a big emoticon and emoticon to our friendly family!

Dee - Hope that you are feeling better!

Gery - Where are you?????

Hello all,

Thank you so much for the praise Motel mom. Hope you are doing well.

Silver- Get rid of the tapes and buy DVDs. LOL. I remember a quote from D E Dubois. If you are enslaved in your mind, you are enslaved forever. Free your mind and you are free beyond imagination. Silverhair, try to change that reel to reel tape that is going on in your head, you can do anything you put your mind to. I hate that tape I threw mine out and I feel so much happier without that constant negative voice in my head. ( not actual voices btw) emoticon
Give yourself a huge hug for weighing less than you have in 30 years, that is wonderful. emoticon emoticon emoticon
Maybe just start with 5 min of any kind of movement to get yourself started, and do that until its habit and then slowly increase it. And for sure give yourself a hug each time you do something “right “ I think we are our own worst enemies for sure. Sorry if I lectured you, I just know where you are coming from with the negative self talk.

I finally got my A/C fixed today, emoticon it feels wonderful, its supposed to be in the 90’s for awhile so I do appreciate it.

Welcome sbble7 yes you can connect with us and great job on swimming emoticon that is a great start.

Kathy I know what you mean I can’t let those coupons go bad. I have 2/ $25.00 coupons to use and they have really good chicken nachos, and like you I hate to think how many calories are in them, I may have to look or just give up counting for the day I go there. Thank-you all for being ok with my venting.

Sandy you are awesome, I have found that stretching feels so good for all my aches and pains. I need to find a few more.

Dee that is great you are working through the pain, have you tried stretching? Sometimes it helps my back pain. That is great your DH is doing good after his surgery.

Judy thanks, I just feel bad when I vent on you guys, but it is a place to share ups and downs I guess,
I forgot how much work kittens are, one of them woke me at 3:30 this morning crawling all over me meowing, and they are into EVERYTHING, its like having a toddler again! I am lucky I can just take my dogs out in the back yard and then of course I have the pooper scooper but I don’t like walking that much so it’s a good trade off.
Have a good night everyone.

Hello all,

Had a very busy day loading and unloading the van of supplies and clients for 4 hours. In between, I powerwalked in the stores to do grocery shopping. My watch went off and I found out that doing all of this registered as cardio exercise so that was my exercise for the day.

Right now, I am sore and tired but I will move on. I will get to bed extra early to face a 13 hour work day tomorrow. I know that God will give me the strength to get through.

So proud of all of you.

Tammy, I'm so sorry about your a/c troubles! I'm especially sorry since we're having absolutely gorgeous weather here in IA. 70s, dry, just great. I wish I could send some your way. Don't worry about whining here. Remember my refrigerator and mice? You all bolstered me while I whined and moaned. We'll do the same for you! I sure hope you get a weather break instantly!

Kathy, I will stop by your page sometime and have a look. Doggie pics are always fun for me. Did I say I haven't had a dog for 13 years now? My husband wants a year for every year we had dogs. He is not a dog lover. Our last dog lived to be 18 years and 2 months (miniature dachshund), so I've got at least 5 years to go! --sigh-- However, I am now spoiled with no walking dogs in the rain, snow, freezing temps, etc., so I'm not sure how I'll feel in the future about getting another one. When we travel, we just go. With a dog, it's not that easy. They sure are wonderful companions, though.

Sandy and Deedaye, your perseverance is to be admired. As you point out, we all need to keep moving. It helps so much.

Silverhair, welcome! This is a great place to come for support and encouragement. Try to stay positive and make the best choices you can, one day at a time.

Must make dinner now. I have a new mandoline that I am going to attempt to use tonight to make ratatouille. It's a terrific recipe and definitely on my meal plan, but I'm not sure how much I'll have to wrestle with the tool. Hopefully I won't be missing any skin when I'm done! Have a great evening.

Hi! I've been checking in regularly with a different group, but I come here occasionally just to get inspired. Needing to lose a lot of weight and hearing constantly that it is harder to lose weight "as you get older" discourages me. But seeing so many here actually making progress inspires me.

Last couple of days I have been overeating the "healthy" foods just like I overate the junk food. Fortunately, that does help keep the calorie count down. But I missed last week's weigh in and I don't trust my home scale to be accurate. So I find myself hearing the old tapes of "See, I knew you couldn't do this!"

I weigh less now than I have weighed for 30 years, but I still don't feel this is something that can keep going. [I've been doing it since September, but I overate for 45 years.] Exercise is still not regular, and I am beginning to experience some of the skin issues that can develop with sagging folds of skin. All these things keep me spelling fat "B*A*D* and defining myself as fat.

So thanks for listening to me, and keep posting. More people are encouraged by you than you know.

Tammy - This is the place to come to if you need to vent about something! Don't stay away because of that my friend. Our temperatures have gotten much easier to bear the last few days, enough so that we've been able to open the windows and turn the AC off for a change. Our last place did not have AC, which meant that we just plain had to suffer in the heat and humidity of the summer, so I can feel your discomfort right now.

Dee - It's great that your husband has done so well post- surgery! Sorry you have to 'break' your holiday time up with a course - and " they" say teachers have it so easy...... Nobody ever gives thought to all the courses etc. that most teachers take on their own time!!!

Sandy - it sounds like you had a good day today!

WE got a bunch of errands done this afternoon, then since it was late AND I had a $10 off coupon, DH, DD Meaganne and I headed to Denny's for supper. The food was very tasty, but I shudder to think how many calories, carbohydrates, etc. I ingested..... Good thing tomorrow is another day! emoticon emoticon emoticon

Hello all,

Dee- I love your determination. I feel the same way. I was in so much pain on Tuesday but still did stretches. I will not let my RA or fibro stop me either from reaching my goals and losing more weight.

Did 35 minutes of circuit training today and plan to do cardio tomorrow. It has been a wonderful week of weather.

Good Thursday,

Cool & cloudy today in NJ but I don't mind after the extended heatwave. I love being able to open the windows! My husband is doing well 3 weeks after his knee replacement surgery. Thirty days ago, I got my Fit Bit and began my 10,000 steps a day streak. I have managed to get my steps in despite back & hip pain. Everything I've read said that you should try to keep moving with back pain and I am determine to keep my streak going! The muscle relaxants help when the pain gets too severe & I have an appointment to see the orthopedist on Aug. 6th. I have three-day algebra workshop next week so I couldn't get in to see him next week. I need to catch up on all your posts. Have a great day!

emoticon

Abundant Blessings, Dee

Sandy - I am so glad you are feeling better today! Thanks for admiring my yard! Did you have a boo at my photo gallery, or did you just like the little bit that is visible in my current profile pic?

DD Meaganne and I finally made it up to the movies this afternoon to see "The Heat" with Sandra Bullock. Despite the violence and swearing that was pretty much throughout the whole thing, it was definitely one of the funniest movies that I have seen in a while. There were some scenes where you couldn't really hear the dialogue just because the audience was laughing so hard. I think we're going to try to get DH up to see it tomorrow afternoon or Friday. There are a whole lot of new movies just out or coming soon that the 3 of all want to see, so I guess we'll have to do some real planning.

"Monster U" which we watched a couple of weeks ago was also great - lots of laughs there too.

Where is everyone else this week??

Hello all,

I am feeling better after a day of rest. Did 90 minutes of heavy cleaning today. I am so grateful that I am now able to focus and move. Plan to rest for the remainder of the day and later work in school work.

I switched my food tracker to motivate me to exercise more. Will let you know how it works. I need to up my exercise since I have been stuck in a rut due to family issues. I need to make exercise a priority.

Hope you all are doing well.

Hello all,

I am sorry to be MIA but I have been working some long hours. Now I am in full fibro fog for last few days. Yesteday I was in total pain and even aspirin did not help. I guess that I am not getting enough rest with long work hours. My mind is a fog after working so I have not been able to do my studies which is a bummer. But I know that God is good and He will see me through this season of pain and fog like He always does. I am off today so I will get some rest.

Motelmom- Wow on your garage sale and sprinkler fun. Hope things are going well.

Jo- Sorry about your basement. Been there and done that. It is not fun. Hope you do not have damage.

Judy- Welcome to the group and I know that you will enjoy it. Everyone is so supportive.

Kathy- Your yard looks awesome. I am so jealous LOL

Have a great job,

Sandy

Evening everyone! I hope you have all enjoyed your Monday today! It was overcast here, along with hot plus some humidity, but definitely NOT the extremes of both that we've been suffering with for the last couple of weeks.

Judy - Yes that picture is in our back yard - my DD Meaganne took it for Canada Day 2011. This is her lad "Phoenix" sitting behind his 'jumpies' with our flag attached to it. There are lots of shots of our beasties on my page - both those who are gone now, as well as the 3 that are still with us. Stop by and check them out if you are in need of a couple of smiles and chuckles!

Tammy - $350 profit from your yard sale is AWESOME indeed!!! Running through the sprinkler does sound like fun - well ambling through maybe, since I don't run! emoticon emoticon The Collies would definitely NOT like going through the sprinkler at all, nope not those frail, water soluable creatures - they might get wet and melt! DD Meaganne and I also worry about losing Phoenix and Arwen close together, as they are barely a year apart in age and she is VERY bonded to him. They are already 8 1/2 and 7 1/2 years old respectively, so we are now on the shorter side of their life spans Even our young fellow is already 5, so in just 2 more years we will have not one, but 3 old dogs.....

Jo - That is such a shame about your basement leaking. Our last house had that issue every time we had a heavy rain. or several days of rain in a row, or with the spring thaws.... we suffered for 7 years with no one being able to find a permanent fix to the problem. I learned very quickly that anything stored in the basement had to be in waterproof sealed containers. I hope Erica's beanie baby collection is salvageable!!! emoticon emoticon with your 8 lbs gone this week!

Sandy - Did you actually get your planned rest before doing that huge 13 hour shift?

Gery - How was the camping weekend with the kidlets? Did you all survive to tell the tale?

It was fun to run through the sprinkler, I decided to try to make a positive out of a negative and it was fun.

Welcome back Judy, I should have thought about dragging my dogs with me. If it gets that hot today I will do that. I think it will be about 5 degrees cooler today, and it cools down really nicely in the evening's here, so I open all the windows and let the cool air in, that helps a lot.

I got my dogs within a month of each other and they are only 6 mo apart in age. I didn't think about them dying when I got them, now I am starting to worry about it they are about 8 years old so in a few years I will have to deal with that.

I want to run through the sprinkler to. It sounds like so much fun.

Today ends my first week back. I love first weeks because you always have a good weight loss. 8lbs gone.

That's the good news. The bad news is our lower basement flooded and the carpet has to go. Erica's beanie baby collection not looking good. Otherwise life is good.

Have yourself a great day emoticon s. Day 8 for me.

Hi everyone! I have a few minutes tonight after tracking, journaling, etc., and can spend it posting!

Thank you (!) for the welcome back wishes! I so appreciate it! As I've said to newcomers many times already, this is a great group!

I spent all day today working on syncing data between my phone and pc. Very frustrating.

Tammy, good for you on the garage sale. I don't do them anymore; not my strong suit, but I admire those of you who can make a go of them. Really sorry about your a/c troubles! I know how it is when one doesn't have a/c (old house, a few window a/cs). Miserable! Good idea about the sprinkler, though! You could just pull the dogs along with you as you run through, right? Saves a step? LOL

Berta, I'll miss seeing your posts. I'm sorry about your new health concerns. I hope everything goes well for you and that we see you here again soon!

Jo, I hope you're feeling better today. Staying positive and happy is hard sometimes, but it sure is better for us!

Kathy, love your new picture! Is that in your yard? Our anniversaries are one day apart. Mine is the 11th. One of my doggie's birthdays used to be on the 12th, though! emoticon She was a miniature dachshund, black and tan, and was so cute. She died years ago, but her birthday in the middle of everything else meant I had to spend time getting her a little gift, too! (Chew toy, squeaky toy (the favorite!)) With her gone, life is just a little more manageable! emoticon With respect to your hot weather, do you remember that, just a short time ago, we were all complaining about our cold, rainy days that wouldn't end? How things change!

I hope you are all having a wonderful evening. I am (now that I'm not working on the phone problem anymore!)!

emoticon Kathy, WE did well on the garage sale, about $350.00 total, a lot of it was game stuff my husband had, D$ D books that were new and game pieces, and we had some collectables. The things that did not sale are separated into going to an auction to be sold and the goodwill store so none of it is coming back into my house.

Today I feel like a kid again, to keep cool so far today I am running through the sprinkler, I turn the water on for 5 min. run through the sprinkler and I am good for an hour. Wed. or Thursday is when the part for the A/C will be here and its a ways away so I have to get creative to stay cool with the temps we have. I have been pouring water on my dogs every hour or so to keep them cool also, they just look at me like what's up with this mom.

Dee good job on your streak and a loss is a loss, good for you.

Jo It sounds like you and DD hand a wonderful evening despite it being a sad day.

Hope you all have a good day, time for the sprinkler again.

Evening friends - hope you are having a lovely weekend!

We finally got a break today in the intensive heat / humid weather we've been suffering with for almost 2 weeks now. It was still hot out, but did not feel any humidity at all, which was wonderful. I got to spend close to 3 hours outside tidying up / dead-heading / weeding all the potted / hanging baskets on the deck as well as some of the gardens too. Oh, and of course there was some just plain sit and enjoy being outdoors without melting into a big sweaty puddle!!! Bad news is that it looks as though the humidity will be back on Monday and just keep getting worse as the week goes on.

Gery - I bet you are all having a lovely time with your usual Santa summer camping experience. I think you love it even more than Olivia and Gabriel do! emoticon emoticon I hope this is just allergies you are having issue with right now and NOT another one of your sinus infections!!!!!

Berta - I am so sorry that you feel you won't be able to be here much any more, but please DO check in when you can and let us know how you are doing! We will miss you my friend!!!!

Tammy - I am sorry that you are without AC - hope it doesn't end up being an astronomical repair bill! It sounds like you had a decent yard sale day - hope the second day goes just as well! I shared in one last weekend with my oldest DD plus a couple of friends who all made about $30 - $40 each. Youngest DD and I came home with a whopping $157.50 in our hot little hands - it was "a good thing! " The best part, for me, was that the stuff that came back home at the end of the day only stopped here long enough to pick up the rest of the stuff from the basement that DH had been getting ready, and it ALL straight to Value Village ( similar to Goodwill, but this store raises money for Diabetic research). Anyway, it's all out of my house now!!!!

Judy - Like Dee says, just come when you can. I'm always welcomed back whenever I go missing for a while, and you will be as well! I think from reading your earlier post that we just might share our anniversary with you. Ours was the 12th.

Sandy - You are always sooooooo busy! You deserve a really good rest!! I hope you enjoyed your quiet day.

Jo - It's so nice to have you back here again! I was so sorry to hear about your parents It was hard enough losing first my Dad, then my Mom and they died more than 20 years apart. I can't imagine losing both your parents within just a few months of each other. I'm glad that you had such a lovely time with Erica last night. It sounds like she was 'just what the doctor ordered' to offset your sad day. I remember that you were moving to the Niagara region, I think. Whereabouts are you? My folks retired to Beamsville back in the early '70s and lived there for many years. It's a beautiful part of the province!

Dee - I am so impressed with your 10,000 steps streak! That is AWESOME!!! How is your hubby doing now? Is he starting to get around more easily?

Letha - hope you have had a great week!

Hope I haven't missed out on anyone - didn't omit you on purpose if I did....

Kathy

Happy Saturday!

Berta, avoiding going on insulin needs to be your primary focus. We will certainly miss you here but look forward to your dropping by to check in with us.

Tammy, I am so sorry your AC quit! I hope you can stay cool until it's repaired. the cubby doesn't sound too comfortable! emoticon At least you made some money with sale so help with the cost of repairs. The heat wave here in NJ is suppose to break after storms this weekend but will still be in the upper 80's.

Gery, I hope you have fun. Tell Santa I'm trying to be good!

JoJo, glad to hear you blood work was fine. Mine came back fine too! So now we just have to keep moving in the right direction!

Judy, we are glad to see you whenever you can drop by! Life has enough stresses, no one should ever stress or feel guilty about not posting. I know from experience, since during the school year I rarely have time to post, but when I drop in the people here old & new are always glad to see me and very supportive.

Sandy I hope you get some well-deserved rest!

JoJo, I am sure you will have other sad moments but you are wise to look for happy. It sounds like you & Erica really made the best of what could have been just one more upset for your day.You honor our parents memory by not giving into the sadness. They wouldn't want that for you. I know I love spending time with my daughter. We always find something to laugh about! I am glad your day ended on a brighter note.

Day 25 of my 10,000 steps streak, other that that I've been a couch potato. I lost just 0.6 of a pound but with my record any loss is a good one!

Enjoy!

Abundant Blessings, Dee

I love garage sales. I must admit I don't usually buy anything but it is fun just to go and visit with the neighbours. Bring them coffee or ice tea. Almost $300 not to shabby.

Yesterday was a sad day for me. It started great till I received a letter to my mother. They needed a copy of hers and dads death certificate. So dads was easy to get because he only has been gone a few months, but mom over a year. I looked in dads wallet and he had photos of him and me taken in a photo booth. I could not have been more then 3.

The good part of the day was my daughter came home after being away all week. DH working midnights. So just the two of us. Big storm came took out the power, and my daughter and I played crib with candle light and laughed. It was great.

So I am always going to feel all emotions but I just realized if I dwell on it I would have missed the time with Erica and that would have been terrible.

Sorry for the long post, just to say, "It is all right to be sad, just remember to look for the happy" It's there if you let yourself find it.

Have a great day team.

Nice to hear from you Sandy and Judy.

Jo maybe just start small with something you will do each day and build from that.

Geri, My garage sale went well for today I made $294.00. I am sure tomorrow won’t be as good because all the good stuff sold today! Our A/C won’t be fixed until next week, they have to order a part, its around 100 here also and supposed to be a couple degrees warmer tomorrow. I found out the coolest part of the house is in the cubby hole under the stairs, I may end up spending some time there before the weekend is over. emoticon
Ok I missed something somewhere along the way, what is this going to see Santa?

Hi all,

Tired from running errands in the heat from work. Will rest the rest of the day due to 13 hours of work tomorrow. I have to get back on track. Will do that on Sunday. Luckily, my weight has remained the same.

Hope you all are doing well

Hi, all..... I'm sorry, but this is just another drive-by. I have been so swamped with birthdays and other things that I have barely had the time to do my tracking. Some days I didn't, or was so tired I forgot. Things look really busy until sometime in August, but I'll be here as I can.

Since I last posted, my scale broke, so I don't have a clue what I weigh now! That certainly was good after our three family birthdays and my (our) anniversary. Now I would like to see how I've been doing. I'm back on track with food and have a scale ordered. I hope it isn't too scary when I step on the first time!

I'll try to catch up at another time with everyone. I hope everyone is okay!

Good morning Spark Friends!

Isn't it great when your blood work comes back and you can take a sigh of relief? It certainly makes the rest of the news a tiny bit easier to deal with..

Today is Day 5 for me. I am doing well. I need to moving again. It is hard to move after sitting on my butt for a couple of months. I will do a few flights of stairs and see how I feel after that.

Put your best foot forward and have a healthy day.
hugs

Dee....Hmmm...never thought about the itchy palm old wives tale! Have you bought any lottery tickets lately? I ran a few errands today too...it was 101 on the thermometer in my Trailblazer at 2pm! Supposed to be hotter tomorrow! UGH!

Tammy....Best of luck with the garage sale! I hope the weather is good for it! I would try picking the peppers now. I know my neighbor used to grow them, I always thought they were those ornamental pepper plants but he told me that no they were ones you could eat. So they may be the same kind. Just watch they may be HOT! LOL.....kinda goes with the temps! Hope you get your a/c fixed! What a time for it to act up! Try to stay cool!

Jo....Hope all is going well! You got it....one step, one day,one pound at a time...we will get there!

Berta.....I am so sad that you won't be here anymore. I will miss you my friend! But I understand totally. You do NOT want to go on insulin! Stick with the plan you are on. It must be what you need if the doctor recommended it and it is working. Please stay well and take care of yourself. Check in from time to time if you get the chance to let us know how you are doing. Sending big big hugs and lots of prayers for your good good health!

It's been a busy busy day for me. I cannot believe how much extra stuff I have to pack for two little kids! And I'm not done yet! Tomorrow we have to pack all their blankets and pillows off their beds...oh...and all their stuffed animals they sleep with! Lord...don't forget the stuffed animals! emoticon emoticon emoticon It's been a while since I had to pack all this stuff when my daughter was little! So tomorrow is supposed to be between 98-105! I am sooo glad we have a/c in the trailer! So tomorrow evening we are off to see Santa! Everyone stay cool and have a great weekend! I will have my netbook with me so I will try to check in if I get the chance!

Berta, sorry to hear about your insulin and hope you rSB works for you, we will miss you.
Jo I had heard that also if your palm itches it you would get money, I had a few episodes when it itched so I bought lottery tickets, no winners though so that doesn’t work.
Geri, thank-you for the words of encouragement, yes the coffee did help. I may have to pick the peppers now then, I already can’t wait until the garage sale is over and it isn’t until tomorrow!
Our A/C either froze up or quit all together, and it around 97 today, we turned it off to see if the line will unthaw, and then if the blower will start, we called the repairman but it could be Monday before they get here. Its been so hot for about 10 days so the poor A/c may just be tired.

Hello Spark Buds
Well I have not been here for quite someTIme but I have thought of you all every day.

I told you I had to have blood work done since it had been four years. So I had it done and my bad cholesterol was good and my good was bad.My blood sugars were good also. I was having alot of phlegmn at night so they did some tests.I have adult onset of asthma and my Dr has given me a machine that I have to use and take a treatment every night before going to sleep. It has been helping. ALOT!

My vitB12 was only 30 so now I have to give myself vit B12 shots.

Also he told me my pancreas was not wanting to make insulin like it should and he gave me STRICT orders to go on the South Beach Diet For LIFE, or take insulin! So I have been doing South Beach since this past monday.I had gotten up to 252.2 and this morning I was 247.2.

Anyway I wanted to tell you all that I won't be here very much any more but wanted to thank you for being such encouragers and helping along the way. I plan to stop in from time to time to see how every one is doing if you don't mind.

But since I am on SB now I am on a thread there and haven't the time to post to both every day. But please hold me up in your prayers. This has to be a lifestyle and not just a diet for me now or I will have to start taking insulin and I do NOT want that.So it is a matter of my life and health now not just a matter of wanting to loose weight!

So again a GREAT BIG THANK YOU TO YOU ALL..... AND AS USUAL A GREAT BIG HUG!

P.S. I have not changed my ticker and won't for two weeks.Ph 1 of SB is 2 weeks. We are to weigh once a week but I cheated in that area emoticon When I started as I posted above I was up to 252.2.So my ticker is not correct at all!

Happy Thursday!

Jo, my mom used to say the same thing. With all the itching I had I should be getting a big pay-off! Wouldn't that be nice! It isn't bothering me right now. It comes & goes.

Gery, I hope your allergies are better today.

I hate to go out in this heat but I do have a few errands to run.

Good Morning team! Hope everyone is having a COOL Thursday. One step at a time and we will get there.

Hey Dee, the kids get hand and foot disease Can't remember what causes it or even if adults get it. I am wishing for you that it means you are coming into cash. Mom always said if my left palm was itchy it meant that cash was coming in. You have both hands and feet itchy, maybe you should buy a lottery ticket. emoticon

Hugs all around.

Hi everyone! Checking in! Haven't felt too good all week between what I think is either a cold or allergies AND my stupid lip which I keep re-biting! I've been falling asleep in front of my computer almost every night. I hate that drowsy feeling you get with a cold!

Kim....OUCH!!!!! In the boob??? I would have said a few choice words myself! I think the worst one I ever had was when I was a kid. I was helping my Dad by holding the ladder while he climbed up to fix something on the house. Well he came down the ladder, I lowered my arms not knowing there was a wasp on my underarm!! Yep, closed the sucker right in my arm pit!!! I do hope you are feeling better! That had to have been really sore!!

Jan....Welcome back!!!! Glad to have you in the group!

Tammy....Maybe the peppers are those little hot ones that only get about an inch long? Might have to pick them as soon as they are that big. I hear ya with the garage sale. I have a ton of stuff downstairs to price but we have no a/c down there right now and it is too blazing hot to work down there. I hope this heat breaks soon, I would like to have the sale before fall. Don't worry about the 2lbs. It could even be water weight from all the heat and humidity. My fingers were swollen the other day for no reason. Now my rings are really loose! You sounded just like me with having a bad attitude atm....I get like that, sometimes you just need to step back and take a break from whatever it is..did the coffee help?

Kathy!!....Could it be?? Is it really you?? emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon Sounds like you are having the heat that we are!!! It is supposed to be over 100 F tomorrow. We are taking the kids camping this weekend to see Santa. Thank goodness we have the a/c in the trailer! I remember you telling me about the roof. Sorry to hear it finally let loose! Not an easy fix in your house. And a mouse on top of it!! Just what you needed. Thanks for asking about Jim. He starts chemo and radiation on the 22nd. The port-catheter has been installed in his chest for chemo and he has been tattooed for radiation. Seven weeks of Mon-Fri radiation. 4 week long rounds of chemo. First week is chemo followed by radiation for 5 days. His first chemo session is 6 hours long, the rest will be 2 hours. I am trying to talk him into getting a netbook or laptop so we can Skype while he has chemo. It's a long boring treatment & I could keep him company. Can't imagine sitting there for 6 hours! UGH!!!! Sending big hugs right back!!!!

Sandy...So sorry to hear about your Aunt. My mother-in-law and father-in-law both passed the same way. My mother-in-law was in a coma for a week,my father-in-law three days. So I know exactly how you feel and what you are going through. Hospice was amazing with caring for both of them. The one thing that I found comfort in is knowing that they were in no pain and sleeping peacefully. You and your family are in my prayers. Sending big big hugs.

Jo....Welcome Back!!! I am so sorry to hear of the loss of both of your parents. It is hard enough but to lose both in a year? My heart goes out to you. But I am glad you are back. To be among friends and getting support is a good thing! Hugs!

Dee...Hope the bloodwork turns out okay! You have me puzzled as to what could cause just hands and feet to itch. I was thinking maybe a new soap or shampoo you might be using but it that was it you wouldn't just itch on your hands and feet. Hmmmmm...I'm stumped! Hope you find out what it is! Feel better!

Well I think I caught up with everyone! Berta, Letha, Beaulah & Patti ...Big hello! And to anyone else I missed! Have a great Thursday!! Stay cool!!

Hello all,

Did 90 minutes of weed whacking yesterday and of course I have been in and out of fibro fog all day. The blessing is that my mother is really at peace with her sister's death and I have not been bingeing. It is extremely hot in PA. I believe that it really triggers my fibro fog. I am able to get around but will rest today from exercise and make up tomorrow.

Welcome back Jo, so sorry to hear about your parents. That would be very hard to handle.

Dee, that is interesting, about the itching palms maybe being caused by a fatty liver, I also have one and my palms itch sometimes.

I am taking a break from chores, I have a bad attitude, atm so I need a break. I am tired and want a nap but I don’t wan to take the time to have one. So I am having a couple cups of coffee to see if that will help.
I decided getting ready for a garage sale is a lot of work, its been years since I had one and I can see why now, I have been working on this all week. We have a lot of new collectibles we bought to try to sell on e-bay but that didn't work so I want to try to sell them.
Time to look something up on computer so see you all later.

Happy Wednesday,

Welcome back, Jo! I've missed you! I am so sorry to hear about your loss. To lose one parent is a heart-breaking, life-changing event, but losing them both in one year is devastating! Please don't worry about"boring" us. This a good, safe place where you can share you feelings. We know all what happens when we try to stuff down our feelings! We are here for you as you go through the grieving process and journey towards a healthier you!

Tammy, it's disappointing to see that scale go up. I bet they they'll be off next week.

I went for blood work this morning. I hope the numbers are good. My BP was a little higher than usual. I have been bother recently more & more with itchy skin particularly on the palms of my hands & feet. The doctor had no idea what is causing it. I read that fatty liver, which I have, the non-alcohol related type, can cause the itching. The doctor didn't seem to think it was the case since previous blood work all shows normal liver function and many over weight people have a fatty liver. This was my first time seeing this doctor since he took over the practice for my doctor when she relocated out of state. I can't say I cared for his "bedside manner". I really loved my doctor so it will be hard for anyone to compare to her. She was one-of-a-kind! If the itching is still an issue & the blood work comes back normal, I will try the dermatologist next. In the meantime, I'm just going to focus on developing healthy habits & attitudes!

Abundant Blessings, Dee

Well I am up 2 lbs this week, not sure why unless it was yesterdays fried foods. Oh well I will just have to move forward.
I am trying to get some stuff done today, so just checking in, I will read more posts later if I have time. Have a good day and try to keep cool.

Good Morning spark team! It has been almost year since I have been to sparkpeople. Lesson learned do not leave sparkpeople. I gained 75 lbs while I was away. My life as I knew it came crashing down. Not going into the details to long and boring, the short story is I lost both my parents in a year to cancer.

So although my life is not back to normal I can not afford to gain anymore weigh back. So day three and positive!

I have read a few days of post and I see a lot of new faces. I want to tell you all this can be done. The support here is great. Log every bit you take. At first it is a royal pain, but then you will see how those trips to the kitchen and grabbing a bite as you walk by add up.

Nobody thinks of that piece of roast beef you take while putting the leftovers away add up. Or finishing off your childs/grandchilds plate because you don't want to waste it. Waste it or it will be WAIST on you!

Have a healthy day! Looking forward to being an active part of this team. Who can? We can!
hugs to all Jo

Sandy, so sorry about your aunt. That is hard and I also use food as a mood stabilizer, and for everything else, it is so hard to learn to not do that, it’s a daily struggle for me. I totally understand and can sympathize with you.

Jan good job on the work and walk, and I agree with Dee be careful around the cookies. For me they are very dangerous.

Kathy, that sounds terrible and hilarious at the same time. It reminds me of the time when my sister went to pour something out of a box and a furry critter came with the contents. She and I both freaked out.
Sorry about the roof, I know how that goes we had to put one on the motel a few years ago, still paying for that for a few years, we were able to get a loan for it, that may be an option for you.
I am trying to get the energy up to sort some more stuff for my yard sale, I thought if I sat in front of the computer it would help me. emoticon

Happy Tuesday!
Welcome Kazzie and welcome back Patty! Hi LastChance!
Beulah, continued prayers for your son.

Letha, emoticon I see you have a new blog on Snacks. I will read it as soon as I ma done here!

Sandy, I am so sorry to hear about your aunt. I know I have a food addiction as well.Everyday day is a struggle. God will see you through. I am happy you are managing your addiction during this sad and stressful time. My prayers are with you & your aunt.

Jan, it sounds like you had a very active weekend. Nothing wrong with giving yourself a day off! Cookies are a challenge, proceed with caution! emoticon

Kathy, your poor DD! That would have sent me screaming. As one of the old cat cartoons used to say, " I hate meeses to pieces!" We've had one or two when the weather changes. My husband know he needs to remove them swiftly and if possible without my knowledge!
I am sorry to hear about your roof, $15,000 oh my! We've been in our for 21 years. It has needed new windows since we moved in but we could never afford it/ Last week a contractor was in our neighbor giving estimates. we told him we couldn't afford to replace the windows but he said the estimate was good for a year so we were curios how much it would cost so we sat through his sales pitch....$20,000 for 14 windows! It's never happening! We will just have to deal with the energy inefficient windows until we hit the lottery! Night time is my worst time for eating too. I have been getting my steps in by marching in place in front of the TV. Day 21 of my 10,000 step streak!

Kim..OUCH that is a heck of a place to get stung! Enjoy your vacation! Safe travels! Use caution when heading into Margaritaville! I wouldn't want you to pop your flip-flop! emoticon

Tammy, Keep up the good work! I need to get some organizing done myself but just can't get motivated to tackle the job! Like you I take vitamins everyday too. I hope they are doing something!

Gery, I am sorry you weren't feeling well and hope you are doing better today especially with all this heat.
Judy, you have a lot to celebrate! I hope you had a lovely anniversary celebration with your DH.
Two weeks after surgery and my DH is doing well with his knee replacement recovery! The staples are out, he is moving well, even driving short distances. He will start his out patient rehab next week. Right now the therapist is still coming to the house. Hopefully since he is doing so well, I can get out a little more an even spend some time at the pool. My main focus is to get my eating under control. I need to track & stay with in my calorie range.

Well stay safe an as cool as possible! emoticon

Abundant Blessings, Dee

Hello everyone,

I am back from VA. My aunt is in hospice and dying from complications of a stroke. They are just getting her comfortable. She is in a coma right now and we are waiting word of her passing. I have backtracked but it has not been easy to focus on Spark doing this time but trying to stay strong with God's help. He is really empowering me.

I am also doing the celebrate recovery bible series. I know that I have a food addiction. I use food as a mood and stress stabilizer. By confessing this to my Spark Friends, I am following the plan. I have been really focusing on my mood and with the stress of the present time, I am blessed to say that I have not been binging on food.

Thank you all for the support

Sandy

Felt like a slug yesterday. Probably because I overdid it on Saturday with spending 3 hours on a yard project picking up heavy blocks and making an edging. Then on Sunday I went on long (for me) walk up and down hills. Today's challenge will be to limit the number of cookies my son made to 1 for my snack emoticon

Evening ladies! Don't quite know where I've been lately, but apparently it has not been here where I should have been....... maybe all this high heat and humidity have fried what little brain cells I had? The forecast for the next several days here is disgusting - 43 C , including humidex, pretty much every day . For those of you who get to use Fahrenheit that works out to 109.4F. My poor ancient central AC is struggling , that is for sure!

We've had some leaky roof / living room ceiling drama with about a 2 foot section of the ceiling coming down, and then a couple of days later a mouse dropped out of the hole while youngest DD and I were watching a movie...... which freaked her out, especially when it jumped up and scared her a whole bunch more while she was trying to scoop it into a bucket..... didn't help that I was having a hard time not laughing at her..... long and short of it is ----- the hole now has a piece of chipboard nailed up over it, and the poor little critter ate one too many pieces of cheese to finally spring the trap about 3 days after it arrived.

The best estimate for a new roof (including replacing any of the sheathing or insulation as necessary) was $15,000 so that won't be happening any time soon.

It's been too hot to do much of anything physical lately, so I've tried to do things like walk up and down every aisle at places like Costco, just to get in the extra steps, along with some chair marching too. The nighttime watching a movie while snacking has not improved at all, so my weight is still bouncing all over the 10 lbs range between 245 - 255.

I'm going to take some time now and read everyone's posts here so I can get all caught up with all your news. I hope the last couple of weeks have been good for everyone !

Welcome to all the newcomers to the group! I'm looking forward to getting to know you better.

Gery - hope all is still going along in the right direction for Jim!!!! Sending you lots of big old hugs!

Kim that sounds very PAINFUL, a sting in the boob! Good job burning those calories. Have fun on your vacation.
Welcome back Jan I hope we can help you on your journey. WE all have resets at one time or another.
That is crazy Geri, and it sounds pretty painful also. It is not only supposed to feel like 100 it is 100 or so here all week, I never turn off the A/C it kicks off when it cools down. I would hate to work in this heat. I feel sorry for your DH. That to bad about your zucchini, mine looks like a jungle. We don’t have the humidity maybe that’s why mine isn’t dying, but I would think that would help it. I bought a little pepper plant, I am not sure what kind of peppers, the lady just said they were hot, but they are drying up as soon as they turn red, and they are only an inch or two long, not sure what's up with that.

Welcome last chance and kazzie, I may have already said that to you but I have old timers so I’d rather be safe than sorry, so welcome.

A quick good morning as I'm heading out the door to work - last day of work, then off for the rest of the week... yah! Almost ready for our trip - supposed to be in the 100's all week here and in IA, so no escaping the heat.

Yesterday's walk was good, freaken hot and humid and sticky, but we still did our 4 miles...so 4.5 on Friday and another 4 yesterday!!! burning up those calories girls... then spent about 2 hours in the pool yesterday afternoon - all was well until I got nailed in the left boob by a wasp!!! SOB!!! (and no, not crying swearing!!!).. LOL, I haven't been stung since I was 6 years old! ouch! My inner Navy brat came out and all the bad curse words came pouring out... lol My sister took the call and was laughing her head off at me. Its a bit sore but ok now. I managed to burn a few more calories in the pool as well.

Well, better run, have a great Monday everyone. Will more then likely be missing in action the rest of the week while travelling - can't wait for tomorrow nite - we are stopping in Cinci on our way to Iowa to see a Jimmy Buffet concert!! Sort of taking a hour or so detour to go there, but well worth it I'm sure!

Take care everyone - keep tracking, keep progressing and WE GOT THIS!!!

Hi everyone! Been a so-so weekend. Not feeling too well. Don't know what it is, feel like I'm getting a cold. I bit the inside of my upper right side lip Saturday night chewing on gum. Took a big chunk out of the inside of my mouth. I woke up this morning looking like a prize fighter. UGH! Kind of hard to eat and when I drink I drool! YUCK! Hopefully by tomorrow the swelling will be gone! It was briefly cool here Saturday morning, briefly, cause by afternoon the a/c's were back on. Hot humid yuck. Very little rain. Just a spot shower now and then. All this week is supposed to feel above 100. My poor husband has to work outside in this heat. I wish this heat wave would end!

Kim...Send some rain up here! We need it! I am right on the Northern NJ border in Suffern,NY. Pretty much about right in the middle of the top of NJ. The border of NJ is about 100 feet from my house and the other end of my street is NJ. We get spot showers that don't last long. We live in a valley and all of the storms go around us a lot of times. Sounds like you have really been busy with friends and family visiting!

Kazzie...Welcome! Glad to have you join us! Sounds like you have been doing very well! And yes...we are a much friendlier place.... emoticon

Letha....Wow....another 3.2lbs!! Way to go!!! Good job on the exercise! You are doing great!

Patty....WELCOME BACK!!!! You have been missed! Okay, so ya start at the bottom again. You will be back up to the top sooner than ya think! Glad you are back. Hope all is going well.

Tammy.....My husband told me tonight that our zucchini and yellow squash plants are drying up. He waters every night but with this heat and hot sun nothing is helping. So sad. We are getting a few grape tomatoes now, which my grandson promptly pops in his mouth! UGH. He can have anything he wants but I would love to have just ONE make it to the kitchen! LOL We need some good soaking rain and some cooler weather!

LastChance....Welcome! Glad to have you join us too!

Hope everyone has a great Monday. Stay cool!

Dee yes it is a big loss, but it’s a re-loss, I gained 6 lbs while I was a way from home, and once I got home and got back on track, it was easier to lose. I just hope I can get the rest off now.
I am not going to change my tracker either, I am getting better at exercise, but my food is still not great so I don’t want to add any more calories.
Bjumping, I hope they find out whats wrong with your son.
Judy you will be very busy with celebrating, have fun and Happy Birthday.
Geri, We planted a couple of weeks early and I tried several growing tricks and between the two it has worked. It is very hot here also, I have to water daily. Or should I say eveningly. I do it when the sun goes down.
Letha great job on the 21 day streak. And congrats on the weight loss.
Welcome Kassie.
Berta, I take a few vitamins everyday, I don’t know if they help but I have almost always taken them. I don’t get sick very much so I think they help.
Have a good weekend everyone.

I am back after being gone for 7 months.....I have missed this group of encouraging friends. I just looked at your blog Gery from January and I feel like the guy at the very bottom. I am starting the climb over again and praying that this will be my last re-start. Have a wonderfully blessed day.

Patty

Wow – this thread is very active right now. That’s great. Let me say thank you to everyone who left me a supportive note. Congratulations to everyone who is celebrating accomplishments. Hang in there to everyone working to overcome a challenge. And welcome to everyone who is new.

I just wanted to check in. Today is my 21st day in a row of doing my SparkPeople 11-Minute Seated Cardio Workout Video. I believe this is the most consistent I've ever been with exercise in my life.

Today is weigh-in day for me and I'm down 3.2 lbs for the week which I'm very pleased with. I just need to repeat this about a hundred times and everything will be hunky-dory. Hope you all are having a great day!

I've decided not to read Fifty Shades of Grey. The book title sounds exactly like what's happening to my hair!!

Nice to see everyone's happy, smiling faces!!! Busy? Yah, seems we all are... I'm running my normal summer b&b - all family and friends visiting every weekend until end of August.. no kidding, last weekend in June brought my 2 sisters, then we just had a last minute, Wed to Friday (they left a few mins ago) from my oldest step daughter and our two awesome grandkids (7 and 10) who live in VA. So very very happy they got to visit us - they looove our pool, and I'm also pet-babysitting a bunny and a guinea pig, so the kids had lots of fun. Now I'm getting us ready to go to visit in-laws (Iowa), leaving Tuesday and coming back on Sunday, we are having a friend come and stay at our house while we are gone, so I have to get the basement ready for him, and once we come back it is literally every single weekend until the end of August we have someone coming... lol - busy, oh, and everyone coming to visit loves to walk sooooo, I'll be kept busy walking and doing laundry!!! lol

This morning was wonderful - no rain, no humidity! My friend and I met at 6:30 and by 8:10 we had walked 4.5 miles, I burned 1111 calories!!! Feeling soo great! Geri, not sure how you guys are missing all this rain we were having the last 3 weeks, in the Pittsburgh area - (I'm thinking you are over the other side of the state?), it has been absolutely miserable here with high humidity and thunder storms almost daily - maybe not all day, but most days... this weekend is supposed to finally be clear.

This week I stayed the same, I have to admit I'm still not tracking and I need to start again, just being busy - yah same old same old story... but I'm still logging in almost every day and if not posting at least reading.

Have a happy Friday - and take care everyone,

Keep tracking (yah telling myself that), keep progressing (we all are) and we got this!!!

Happy Friday everyone! Yep after midnight again! I have got to get back to posting here everyday! My head has been in 10 different places lately. But I need to get back to checking in

Dee...Yes I am truly blessed that my grand kids like veggies! I can actually make them a bowl of salad for lunch and they love it! Today they had tomatoes and cucumbers from the garden with their lunch and they were in heaven. My grandson will eat the salad before anything else. Thank you for posting the link about the trackers. I didn't know about it. I will have to read it when I am done posting.

Berta...Boy the doctor gave you a real going over! My cholesterol is out of whack too. All my levels are normal or below except all of a sudden my LDL is up! But my sister has the same problem so it might be a family thing? So he started me on Lipitor every other day. I have to go back in three months for a check. Once you get your B12 back to the right levels you will probably need to take the vitamins to keep it there. We take a LOT of vitamins and supplements everyday. Omega-3, Flaxseed Oil, Vitamin D3, Multi-viatamin Plus I take one for hair, skin & nails! I hope it works out with the breathing treatments. You will get much better sleep that's for sure! I get the phlegm too but only in the morning when I wake up, sometimes. But mine is sinuses. Keep at it girlfriend! It will all get straightened out. Hugs

Letha...I checked out your pictures on your SP page! I have to tell you they are all great! But I left a comment on my favorite. emoticon You have such a great attitude. I STILL have not posted a full length picture of myself nor will I let anyone take one! emoticon I have no doubt that you are going to do this!

Tammy....CONGRATS on losing those 4.2 lbs! WOW you are getting a good crop of zucchini! We had that a few years ago. I LOVE making stuffed zucchini with dinner. I think I used zucchini in just about everything! So far we are just starting to pick cucumbers, tomatoes and one lonely yellow squash! This weather is not helping any. Hot,humid and no rain. Everything dries out so fast!

Beulah...I will keep your son in my prayers. I hope they figure out what is going on with him. And I hope he is not still in a lot of pain. Sending good thoughts.

JUDY....HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!! emoticon Wow that's a lot of celebrations in 5 days! No wonder you've been MIA! LOL How's those tootsies doing? Hopefully better? Just in case I am MIA on Sunday.....HAPPY BIRTHDAY early! emoticon emoticon

Phew! I think I caught up! Everyone have a great Friday! Tomorrow is cleaning day for me! UGH. Hugs everyone!
