Berta, Thank you so much. I've been struggling with my sinuses for 10 years now, the last 4 have been the worst. The antibiotics should kick in soon. And I will be good for a couple of months. Someday they will find the solution, 4 cat-scans show nothing wrong. What really stinks is it makes it hard to exercise because I get so lightheaded. But tomorrow is painting the new den day so I think I will be getting some calories burned doing that! Hope weigh in goes well! I will keep my fingers crossed for you! emoticon

There is a song on a show that my Grand Kids watch and I think it applies : "Keep trying, keep trying, don't give up, never give up" I intend to keep trying and I will never give up till I reach my goal!

Nothing happens overnight. Remember one pound lost is one pound closer to your goal.

Get up every morning, take a deep breath & make it the best day that you possibly can.

MissG, Congrats on the weight loss! You are moving right along! 27 miles???? Okay I would probably have fallen off the bike at 1 ! LOL! GOOD JOB! You should be very proud! My sinuses started about 10 years ago,but have gotten worse in the last 4 years. I have had 4 cat-scans done which showed nothing wrong. The high dose antibiotic is supposed to help the meds get in where there is little circulation and help kill the infections.Uh-huh. LOL I joked with the doctor that maybe he should take a tiny vacuum & get in there and just vacuum my sinuses out! I use Rhinaris saline spray, a gel saline spray, mucinex and drink at least 2 liters a day. I've tried just about everything. Someday hopefully they will find a solution! Good luck with the first training ride tomorrow! I'll be rooting for ya! emoticon emoticon

Dee, Thank you for your good wishes. My spirits are getting back to normal. Now just wish my sinuses would! But the antibiotics should kick in soon! Glad to hear the party plans are almost complete! It is a lot of work but rewarding work! We just went to a 100th birthday for my husbands great aunt. She is the first in the family to reach that age. How amazing to live to be in your 90's or even 100's. What amazing stories they have to tell! Hope your back to work Monday goes smoothly, spring break went to fast! Take care! emoticon

Yesterday I biked 27 miles in 2 hours, 16 minutes. Today? I'm doing laundry, and that's about all I can cope with! Tomorrow is the first training ride for the Pedal to the Point teamI'm on, so I'm definitely taking it easy today. I also managed to drop another 2 pounds! I think I was holding onto some water weight.

Cricket, I'm sorry you are struggling with sinus infections. They are beastly to chase out completely, because there are so many little nooks and crannies where they can hide where there is very little circulation. Have they considered sinus surgery yet? Are you super-hydrating to thin out all those mucus membranes so that they can drain better? Good luck!

Dee, we're almost birthday twins! This is apparently the month for celebration!

Berta, I'm glad to hear that your treadmill was not wonky today. We have to perform some maintenance on ours (hubby uses it; I hate treadmills!) and just haven't gotten around to it.

I hope everyone is enjoying the weekend!

Kathy, my dad's party plans are almost complete, just a few small details to complete! It's a week from today!!! My brother is paying for the party, so I am handling the arrangements He consults with me, but I do all the leg work! My dad is getting greetings from President Obama and from the Pope Benedict!

Today my dad and I are going shopping to get him some new shirts, then lunch & a movie. I had a wonderful spring break and I am planning on making the most of the last couple of days of my spring break, because it's back to work on Monday!!! emoticon

Our weather here in Missouri is terrible it was 31F last night and froze my tomatoe plants GRRRRR! But now we will re-plant new ones and have a later drop so all is not lost! LOL

KATHY
Thanks.I have really been trying each day to get a grip on my eating.I feel I have done really well this week.We will find out Monday on weigh day. I should not have lost last week... so it may catch up with me this week we will see?

MISSG
I got on my treadmill today and it didn't do what it did yesterday. So I am thinking that when I tried to use the step programmer on it that I didn't know how to set it right? I have never tried useing it before so I am thinking that's the culprit!

With all the hugs and good wishes from my Sparkfriends I am feeling much better today! emoticon I went to my ENT and low and behold I do have yet another sinus infection. Very severe. This is a common thing for me. They can't find out why I get them but it's every few months. So I am back on antibiotics. 4000mg a day! They are horsepills. I will probably wind up doing a 20 day course which will put 80,000 mg in me in 20 days. This is the 7th time I have taken this course of antibiotics trying to knock this infection out once & for all. So I am on the mend, again. But I am smiling and sparking! Hope you all had a good day! It was so pretty out, hope you got out to enjoy the weather! I had my sunroof cracked open! emoticon

Patty - emoticon and emoticon to this truly emoticon team!! It's nice to have you here with us!

Berta - well done on the food choices! I'm sorry to hear about the treadmill problems, though, and hope it works better for you next time you use it!

When I was going to WW the leader was great lady who had her Masters degree in Nutrition and was always willing to share her knowledge with us. One of the things that she stressed over and over again was this... It takes your body around 7 - 10 days to catch up with everything that you have done to it during that time, whether it is over -indulging in the wrong foods / drinks, doing no exercise at all, or doing lots of exercise.

So don't get disheartened when the scale doesn't move the way you are hoping or expecting it to go!!!

Dee - also great job on the food choices too! Well done! How are all the party plans going for Dad's big celebration?? When my Mom turned 90, we had a big party for her too, and put my older brother in charge of finding out ( and arranging to have them done too) who send congratulatory letters for 90th birthdays - like local, provincial, and federal government officials. I forget now just how many he was able to get, but I know Mom was pretty impressed by most of them. Will they do stuff like that for you in the States?

Beulah - I 'm sorry you were having a rough day, but glad to hear that today was better! Keep smiling, there's another weekend almost here!

MissG - Your levels of exercise exhaust me just reading about how much you do daily / weekly! LOL I struggle every single day with forcing myself to get up and simply DO any kind of exercise. I sure am happy to hear that you are finally feeling better enough to get 'back in the saddle' again. You really had a rough go of it for a while there.

Gery - Being down in the dumps is murder!!! It makes it so hard to do anything at all, doesn't it. Try to find something to read, or watch (like a movie) that will make you smile, or even better that will make you laugh out loud!!! That will do wonders for picking up your spirits again! Until then, am sending you lots and lots of

emoticon emoticon emoticon

Berta and MissG I can't thank you enough for your hugs and good wishes. They mean more than you know. You are both so sweet! I am feeling a little better but on top of it all I think I have a sinus infection(doctor tomorrow) and I wound up with a migraine today! UGH! But your hugs have lifted my spirits, it is so nice to know I have the support of my Sparkfriends! emoticon

Patty, Welcome to the team! And thank you too for your sunshine and good wishes. As you can tell by the posts we are a very supportive team! I have about the same amount to lose as you. Patty, I exercise quite a bit. I am training to ride a two-day, 150-mile bike ride in August called Pedal to the Point, which is a fundraiser for MS. I'm also signed up for a challenge called 30 Days of Biking, which is to ride every single day of April, and which I've done so far, though yesterday's ride was only a mile.

Generally, I get about 30-40 minutes of aerobic exercise, whether biking, walking, or my ski machine, 5-6 days a week, and strength training about 4 days a week--I have it scheduled for 6, but some days I don't make it and so the next day I will double up. Mondays and Thursdays I have upper body scheduled, Tuesdays and Fridays lower body, and Wednesdays and Saturdays I do core exercises. I have free weights and a bench at home, so I don't have to go to a club, just roll out of bed, pull on the exercise clothes, and head for the basement!

With the training for longer rides, this will be kind of jumbled for the next few months, with a lot more aerobics from the riding and less ST work, but that's my usual schedule.

Of course I didn't start out working this hard, or lifting as heavy as I do now. You have to work up to it, and taking it slow at the beginning will really benefit you in the long run

Hope this helps.

Berta & Dee, Good job on the menu choices! It is so hard when you go to a restaurant with good intentions then open the menu and see all the yummy choices. But you stuck to your guns, you should be very proud!
MISSG CONGRATULATIONS on the 3 pound loss! So happy for you! You're doing great!
As for me I am in depressed mode right now. Walk around fighting back tears. I know it's hormones but it stinks. Just don't feel like me right now. Trying to shake it off. Gonna go downstairs where we are renovating the house and see what trouble I can get into. Hope you all have a great day!

Good Morning everyone! I am new to the boards. I joined sparkpeople in January and just ignored it until yesterday. I am 53 soon to be 54 and I need to lose about 170 lbs. I have come to the realization after all these years no amount of wishing, praying, hoping or thinking is going to make the weight fall off and stay off. I figure I have lost at least a 1000 pounds in my life (give or take a few) and gained at least that much.

Here is to a NEW BEGINNING and forgeing some new friendships emoticon

Dee and Berta, congratulations on making good choices! That's great!

BJUMPINGFORJOY, we all have those bad days. As long as you come back from them, you will be fine. This is a lifetime journey, not a race, so you've got time!

As for me, I was overslept today. I'm not sure what's going on with me that I'm in hibernation mode now--it's spring! We're supposed to be waking up!! But I am trying to listen to my body.

Only biked a mile yesterday, woke up today three pounds lighter. It's really true that our bodies aren't just machines with input-output = results.

Good Thursday to all,

Yesterday I got a manicure and I had a great lunch with my friend, Mary. We went to the Olive Garden & I had the salad, one breadstick, the Venetian Apricot Chicken with broccoli and asparagus( one of their healthy options) and for dessert I had one of the little miniature desserts. Not perfect, but so much better than my usual full of fat & calories choices! Then I got in lots of walking as a shopped for my dad's party and some other gifts for up coming celebrations. It was a good day! Today I need to pay some bills, do some cleaning, then later I am going to Zumba again.

Berta, emoticon You should be proud! It isn't easy to change our eating habits!
Bjunpingforjoy, we've all been there! Don't dwell on your mistakes. Progress, not perfection! You are still Sparking!!!
Cricket, we'll see how I hold up with the Zumba! It is fun though!
MissG take it slow so you don't get too sore! emoticon

Well time to get busy! emoticon

Abundant Blessings, Dee

I am sorta proud of myself today. We went out for supper after church tonight and I wanted a cheese burger and fries so bad.BUT I chose vegetable soup and side salad. It was very good too!

I have been trying to make small changes like Easter Sunday I chose a small steak and grilled shrimp instead of fried shrimp and a side salad. So far this week I have really been good.Sure hope it sticks for weigh in Monday.Last week I cheated like crazy and lost so lets see this week?Hope it doesn't catch up with me.

Jumping for Joy..... tomorrow is a new day.Hope it is better for you!

How's it going for you Cricket and MISSG?

Hello DEE DAY and EVERYONE ELSE!!!!!!
I looked up a Zumba video.OH MY GOODNESS. I would end up in the hopital

Good going Dee! I have never tried Zumba but it looks like fun. I love to dance around the kitchen to music while I make dinner. But like you I have to watch my knees. My left one especially loves to start it's "clicking". Have fun on Thursday! emoticon

Tried Zumba for the first time tonight! It was fun. I did my best to keep up....I didn't , but I kept moving! My knees held up, but my fallen arches started to bother me. I plan to go again on Thurs.

Today is was 38 here, and snowing a bit. But I rode my bike anyway! I'm committed to this riding every day of April. I rode 7 miles.

I think I need a couple "just ride around the block" days, though. My legs are starting to get sore.

It was 85 last week today it is 50.BIG difference.

Berta, sometimes our bodies seem to just hang onto weight for a while and then surrender it. I don't know why it happens, but I'm grateful when it does!

Enjoy your mushrooms!

Yes I know it was a BIG loss.I don't understand it...I was no way on plan at all??
But I am just hoping the scale was right.I guess I just have to keep at it and see on Monday how it goes?

Our friends had went fishing and some people ask them if they wanted the mushrooms and they don't like themWe had eaten lunch with them(they were one of the couples after Sunday services)and we had tlaked about the mushrooms. I told them how bad I was wanting some.Well anyway when we arrived home after Sunday evening service there was Jack sitting in his truck waiting for us and he gave them to us.He said he was the only one in his family that even liked them and he remembered our conversation so he gave them to us!!!

We had them for supper tonight.I had forgotten how rich they are.I am so happy the other guy didn't bring the 4 gallons. We would have been sicker than dogs eating that many LOLThough I was going to give a gallon to my daughter and some to our Pastor!

Hello Everyone
What a wonderful Easter we had! First and foremoost we atteneded church to worship our risen Savior! Then we went out to eat with ten other people.I am happy to say I had a very small steak and grilled shrimp on rice and a side salad. OH how I wanted the breaded shrimp. But I made myself order the grilled. And I was quite surprised at how tasty it was.It was very very good. I may just change to grilled from here on out!

We had wonderful fellowship and then went home and took a long nap until time for evening services!Talked to my daughter and just had a wonderful day!!!

I also was pleasently surprised this morning when I weighed in.I had lost from 274.8 to 269.8.
This is the thing that I don't undestand? I was ready to see a BIG gain as I did not keep track of almost anything last week and ate things I shouldn't have most of the time .Then had the big loss? I just don't get it but I will take it!

Well everyone keep Sparkin surely we will get there some day!

OHHHH I almost forgot. After we got home last night from services a friend brought us a small mess of Morels. SO we are having them for super tonight. Can't wait!!

We have no family in the area, so we end up having Passover with our best friends and then Easter is just quiet for us. We went to see Titanic in 3D and then I went for a bike ride. Hubby was having a fast day, so I ended up making a token Easter dinner for myself: an egg salad sandwich on homemade sourdough bread. It was tasty and satisfying!

Good Monday to all,
Kathy, I feel blessed that my Easter was spent just that way! The first Easter dinner at my niece's house was great! Everyone brought something. I ate more than I should, so today it's back on track. I'm excited to have the week off! So much I want & need to do this week. Friends to see and plans for my dad's big 90th birthday party to finalize!! emoticon
I am meeting friends for lunch. Then it's off to the gym!
Whatever you do today, ENJOY!!

Abundant Blessings, Dee

Hope all of you had a wonderful Easter today - with lots of good food, good conversation, and surrounded by those whom you love the most!

We all got together at my older daughter's home for our Easter 'Feast" and had 2 teenagers, a (newly turned ) 5 year old, a 3 1/2 year old, and a 4 month old baby - along with all the accompanying adults, too of course - so our "do' was loud, to say the least..... We were missing both sons as usual - one lives and works in the USA, and the other one was working - also were without his daughter who lives in Quebec with his ex. DH didn't make it either, he works midnights, so was sleeping.

It was a long day, but a good one! I am really enjoying being back home where it is lovely and quiet... LOL

Hi Everyone MissG, Cricket,Jumpinforjoy,Needtobeslim and everyone else.

Happy Easter to all of you!

We do not buy candy for Easter anymore since it is just the two of us.So i need not worry about that. But I eat everything else I can get my hands on.

It just I can't get myself to STOP. I was doing good at first then when those scales stop I stop.I know how you feel MissG except you keep it up and I give it up. Then I have a VERY hard time getting in the grove of things.I Haven't even tracked my food for three days!

Well maybe I can try again Monday. It has turned off cold here again this weather is crazy!
It is 45F and last week it was 85F. We had to turn our furnace back on and get out our bed blankets again! emoticon

Cricket, I know that is what's going on, it's just frustrating when you are EXTRA GOOD and you don't get the immediate reward. I am laughing at myself, and continuing to eat right and exercise! I'm in this for the long haul!

Berta, what a bummer! I hope you get them soon.

After losing 10 pounds in 2 weeks, I'm plateaued, bouncing around at the bottom of 250, top of 249. Intellectually, I know that this is to be expected after such a big adjustment, and I do just keep working out and eating right, and that I would keep living like this even if I wasn't going to lose more weight because I am so much healthier.'

But, dang! I feel like I should be rewarded for my good behavior! Last night friends were over, and they brought these amazing chocolate chip cookies and other snacks, and I didn't have any. I politely declined while everyone else was rolling their eyes in bliss. And when I got on the scale this morning, I'd still bounced back up to 250. Is that fair, I ask you?!!! The weightloss fairy is not doing her job!!!!

Berta, I am jealous of your morells! Such a lovely taste!

Cricket, congrats on losing that water weight! Yay!

I'm still fighting back from being sick, but I'm working out daily, so that part I've got down! Next week I HAVE to get back on schedule, though. This is just ridiculous.

Hello Everyone
Thanks for all the great advice! It's certainly appreciated emoticon
Well so far I have stayed within my limits. But it seems even though I have my menu made out when I go to eat my menue isnt what I want.?
But I try to substitute what ever it is on the menue with the same amount of calories.

I know for a fact tomorrow night I will not stick to plan as we are having a man bring us 4 gallons of Morell mushrooms emoticon We only get them once a year and I am eating them.I am giving one gallon to my daughter and we will give some to our Pastor and his wife. But the rest are ours !!!!!!! If you have never had them you do not know what you are missing. But they are fried! They were terribly expensive 35.00 a gallon but the man wanted 40.00 a gallon but we told him no and he said since we bought so many he would come down!

You probably think we are crazy for spending that much for them. But to us it is worth it not having to drive for miles looking for them since gas is so high and then going walking in the timbers for hours on end along with the ticks and snakes and whatever else is out there!

And like I said they are only out once a year!

I did eat a snack today before supper and did much better. So I think it will be a RF cheese stick and boiled egg from now on.That is Protein and will keep me feeling fuller longer than something sweet or Carby!

Cricket CONGRATULATIONS emoticon That is so awesome!!!! I doubt if I ever loose that much.I have tried my whole life. But at least I am persistant!
