emoticon Evening all. No little tricksters so bags of candy will stay closed until hunting season.
emoticon In 1991 we had snow that started Halloween morning with a forecast of 8-10 inches. The storm stalled right over us and by the time it finished on Nov 1st, we had 30" of snow. Needless to say, there was no trick or treating that night. Just really glad to have the kids home safe from school and hunkering down to wait it out. Nothing so severe this year. We had 3" a couple of weeks ago that melted in the next couple of days and flurries yesterday. today's moisture was just drizzle of rain. emoticon

emoticon Afternoon Everyone, Happy Halloween! emoticon Bought 2 bags of candy for passing out tonight. They say not to buy the stuff you like, trouble is I like it all. So I wait till the last minute to buy. emoticon emoticon We had about a 100 kids last year so I hope it will be enough. The census has dropped every year, more doing parties and other ways. I was reading about getting some stuff to eat that is more healthy while you pass out the candy, so I was thinking about spiced pumpkin muffins. I don't think I would eat one after another of them. Thought with some hot tea might hit the spot. I did my walk today and I am keeping track of my steps the place I work is doing a team challenge to walk for 2 weeks so I joined it. emoticon

Morning, I checked to see if I could get to work this morning. Fraid so. I got home last night so sick and sore, no way I could exercise when i couldn't breath. So my tracker says i got well over 15,000 steps yesterday and no exercise.

Good morning to all - I pray that you all have a successful and blessed Wednesday.

Today, I will work and clean my kitchen (truthfully, I think it will take more than one day as my cupboards and refrigerator need a deep cleaning emoticon ) I have to start somewhere. I seem to do real well with my eating and exercise until evening - then I tend to graze through the kitchen. I need to get my hands busy with a project and drink water. Okay, that will be my goal for today.

Have a great day!

Got home today after 2 days at sons taking care of tots so he and DDIL could have a few days away. I ate all wrong, didn't get enough sleep (little one wanted to sleep with Grandma and squirmed alot), didn't get any real exercise.... But wouldn't give up the Grandma time for anything. We are having snow flurries. I am so not ready for winter. emoticon

emoticon Have a great day all Halloween is getting near and the weather here has been getting cooler, no snow or rain yet. I went for my walk today and took the dog, Bailey. He actually seems to have built up his energy level. He made the entire walk with me. It did take a bit longer he had to smell alot of things and look at the birds and various other animals on the way.. Yesterday he and my cat Cleo actually stayed beside me on. I think he is finally adjusting to being with us. emoticon

MaryAlice - You are so funny. I have a black cat & orange cat so I will watch them carefully. Wouldn't want them to disappear. emoticon

It is suppose to get up to 34 degrees here today so I am looking for projects inside today.

We are busy cleaning up for Fall and putting everything away. I had some peppers and cucumbers left from the garden so I have been making Cinnamon Pickles and Pepper Jelly. Nice warm job in the house on a cold day.

I started the day on the treadmill and walked 1 1/2 miles emoticon , Had Oatmeal and Blueberries for breakfast and now I am ready to clean something.-- I think I will work on my back porch this day.

I am wishing all of you a great day - emoticon

Good morning, Yesterday I called Apple and asked them how to undo what DH did to my computer. They said they wouldn't because they were glad he had installed it. It was their new operating system and on all their new computers and tablets. They gave me a tour of the system and told me I could call anytime during the next 90 days for more assistance. I keep trying to do things the old ways out of habit, but this might work.

Wouldn't you knew, DH wants to for a walk, the mall, hike the trails what do I want to do. I have a splitting headache and well the little toe on my right foot doesn't hurt.

This is national cat day, love your kitty emoticon

Remember Halloween can be dangerous for pets, Chocolate is poison to dogs and sugar free foods can cause them to go into a diabetic coma. Black cats tend to disapper this time of the year and a new trend is for orange cats to disappear.

Sounds like everyone is busy with projects and setting goals.

The pumpkin patch is over as of yesterday and now I am trying to straighten things up and put my life back in order. The pumpkin patch was fun and a moderate success. We always set our goals very high emoticon and then feel disappointed when we don't reach our goal emoticon . I don't know why?????

At any rate I am now ready to get back to proper weight and exercise. Over the last two months in my absence, I have gained 3 pounds which I will chart today. I don't think that is too bad considering........

I hope everyone has a super day.

Good morning. DH spent 4 hours "fixing" my computer so it would work faster. I spent 6 hours trying to get it to do what i want it to do. maybe one of these days It will work. And with all that if it is any faster it isn't enough of a difference for me to tell.

I went to the Renaissance Festival yesterday. time wish I got a lot of walking in. Step wise not so much. I walked at DH's speed. DH has CP, walks by shuffaling his feet. It was frustrating to walk that slow, but felt good to walk with DH. I found another staff and DH found a cane. I don't need another staff, this make 6, but DH has trouble finding a wooden cane that feels good in his hand. the one he had was wearing out.

I spent a good part of the spring getting rid of sumac. It grows all over the place and is hard to get rid of and sumac breaks me out so bad. DH cane is a sumac root. After the root dries it doesn't cause reactions.

I hope the day has treated you all well. I spent most of the day outside, walking emoticon and helping hubby with the gravel and the gate. We realized after putting the gravel down we needed to raise the gate a few inches so it could open and close. Lots of exercise and fresh air.

emoticon Hi, just finished supper. managed to stay in my calorie range all day, just added up the calories and decided I can treat my self to a dish of frozen chocolate yogurt. I guess I am not cold here. The weather has been beautiful. Did a lot today, my walk and did some more raking of gravel and helping Hubby to adjust the gate because of the extra gravel we have. I feel happy we got so much accomplished today. Oh I also made a new record for myself 13912 steps today.

Make haste slowly, for one can easily become discouraged. One can become overenthusiastic. One can become in such a manner of policy as to let the little ends slip without proper consideration, as to their meaning with the whole undertaking.

Good morning, I have always separated intentional exercise from activities of daily living. The tracker records exercise. The tracker tracked an hour exercise while shopping in 10 to 15 segments. i walked the dogs for and hour and 1/2. so my day off I got 2 1/2 hours exercise.

The problem I have with the holidays is that I want each holiday to be separate. I don't like Christmas coming before Halloween. I still won't do anything for Christmas till the day after Thanksgiving.

Most of the vegetables have been removed to make room for the 'pumpkin patch'. We have one more weekend of the pumpkin patch and then we are done. Then we plow everything down. This weekend promises to be a good one. The weather is suppose to be beautiful and we have had a lot of inquiries about our hours and activities.

Progress report - We started with 992 pumpkins. I counted a couple of days ago and we have 358 left. We have hauled a lot of pumpkins emoticon

I have not been very good at charting, weighing, or exercising this month but I can begin anew on November 1. emoticon

We don't usually get any trick or treaters either. Only 2 small children within 4-5 miles and their folks don't believe in taking them out. I do buy a couple of packages of small candy as the guys like it for pocket candy for deer hunting which starts early Nov. We are often 100 miles away for birthday party/trick or treating with cousins as one of our grandbabies was born on Oct 30th. emoticon emoticon

Good morning, Today is an off day. I'm off work and it is an off day for exercise. That doesn't mean no exercise I still have 2 big dogs that need walked. I went grocery shopping, picked up some last min halloween things and DH drove so we had to go by best buy to see if there where any new tablets.

I might have 1 trick or treater, but most years I don't have any. I'll buy one candy bar and take it next door. One of the things about living at the end of a dead end road where you have to past a cattle ranch and horse farm to get to your house, no one comes out this far.

Mind if I jump in? I'm one week new and really enjoying SPARKpeople. It's been an amazing day here......the fog that has plagued us for the last week receded and the sky was a clear blue all day. The sun shone on all the Autumn colours in my garden.....blazing red, yellow and bronze everywhere. It was such a perfect day I got out and took a lot of pictures of the Fall colours. Funny how the weather can influence your mood isn't it.....today was as good as it gets.

Kattree, I've been on and off WWers for years and I found that whenever I tracked consistently, I'd lose weight consistently, so I'm sure your plan of tracking will speed you to your goal. Just remember....track EVERY bite before you eat it and you can't go wrong.

“Hard work spotlights the character of people: some turn up their sleeves, some turn up their noses, and some don't turn up at all.”

- Sam Ewing

Good morning. Yesterday I did it. For some reason I thought I was working 2P-11P Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday . Nope I work 2P to 11 Monday and Wednesday. Noon to 7 on Tuesday. I was an hour and half late for work.

Yesterday I was on a register most of the day. I got 9,000 steps on customer service in 4 hours. 5,000 working a register for 7 hours. Today the tracker says I haven't taken a single step. I even marched in place and counted my steps, nothing I checked yesterday and nothing is recorded for the last hour I was up. I'm off to see what SP has to say about this.

I gained 10 pounds after Daddy passed. Now I'm trying to lose it and it isn't working. I think it is Wal-Mart fault. I don't eat right, sleep right, as you can see i don't know when to do anything. I'm not hungry when I need to eat to go to work, then I get hungry at work when they have cake and donuts in the brake room.

I know exactly how you feel. Two years ago I lost 65 pounds and gained back 35 of it because of stress eating. I hate it, but I am an emotional eater. My prayer is that logging my food will help me stay on course for a healthier lifestyle. The good thing is that I did not stop exercising because I knew it would help the stress load. I feel better in all areas of my life when I am in control!

Sunday, it started snowing while we were at church and pretty much s noted steady until about 3:30-4:00 pm. We got about 3 inches which wouldn't be so bad but we were just ill getting snow last May. global warming is not hitting Minnesota. it is pretty much settled and melting some today. Our weather forecasters are about 100 miles south and they are saying high temperatures are going to be in low 40's all week. emoticon To all those making real progress on goals. Here come the holidays and I intend to make progress and not slide backwards. Halloween is the first hurdle, followed by Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years. My plan is to thinner and down another pant size by 2014. I am already on less medicine and my A1C is 5.2 so SP is working for me. My best to everyone changing their lives too. The funny part is, once I made up my mind to take charge of my life, eat healthy and put myself first, it was fairly easy. -Holly

emoticon Good news I am down in the amount of metformin I take from 1000 twice a day to 500 twice a day. I am going to have my A1c tested in November to see how it's holding. I want to get my walk done but I am having to wait on a gravel delivery, hope they come soon, think I will do some strength exercises while I wait as well as the house hold chores. emoticon
We/re having beautiful weather here, cool but the sun is out. Janille all that wood is definitely a workout and then some. Me I am doing some household chores while waiting for them to deliver gravel to our backyard. We have a RV and would like to park it back there without it sinking when it rains. emoticon

Good morning, walking the dogs is out. it is noisy outside. Raining off and on, but I don't walk in thunder.

I got another 8,000 steps at work. OK steps are good, but it is no wonder my feet hurt walking that much on concrete. I for one have a real problem with my eating when I'm in pain. My brain is sure sweets pastries will get rid of pain.

Good morning, Another cool day. I haven't checked but I'm betting my weather site will give will give this a 10 for dog walking.

Yesterday was the first day I wore my tracker to work. I left for work at 6P and got home at 11:45P. The tracker tracks by hour. Yesterday I wasn't behind the register as much as normal. When I got home I can in, sat down till my computed sinked. I got 8,796 steps sorting the things people left all over the store and the holidays begin.

I haven't stacked wood in years. I have always lived is the south and not much need for fireplace. Until 30 years ago we had a wood burning stove then we moved to town and got an electric.

spent most of today helping DH fill the wood sheds. almost 3 hours (in 3 sessions) stacking the wood. Some was green (wet) oak. for those who haven't stacked wood oak is heavy!!!
I not only got my cardio in, I got weight lifting in besides. Throwing 5-8#+ pieces of wood on the pile, sometimes over my head plus the whittle my middle bends to pick up pieces from ground got me needing the Alive. Probable another couple of days like this to be done for this year. then only smaller amounts to be stacked in wood room in the basement. Blessings abound to have health and strength to do this. emoticon

I'm MaryAlice and I have posting about the tracker. I haven't worn it in the pool. It looks like a hard piece of plastic and I don't see any seams. I know there has to be some because they talk about opening it to change the battery, but it appears to be very well sealed. I'm told you can swim with it, but it is too cold for swimming even in Texas.

I'm new here and was poking about reading blogs, posts etc. and I came across your post regarding the SP Tracker. I was just looking at it and had decided to buy one myself so it was good to hear someone using it and what they thought. I was surprised it worked on the bike too......awesome! I read somewhere in the information you can take it in the pool with you; is it really that waterproof?

Good morning. I'll be honest I kind of want to keep Duke and haven't been pushing to hard to get rid of him. I was just concerned about DH, he has been against having Duke, well yesterday Duke to matters into his own hands, or paw. DH want for a walk. later I took Duke out to met him. We met up with DH. DJ told us to go on ahead because he walked so much slower then us. Duke had other ideas. he pulled back to walk beside DH. DH asked for the leash. Duke still pulls and I was reluctant to let DH have it, but Duke never pulled.

With this cooler weather, I'm able to walk the dogs more.

My Fitbit One counts 2450 steps as a mile for me. This seems to be extremely accurate. I am short and have short legs so more steps per mile would make sense. I get an average of 7,000-8,000 steps each day with an occasional 10,000-12,000 steps. emoticon

Good morning, I'm late getting on because I've walked one dog, taken the old phone back, gone shopping and am back home.

Last night my SP tracker came in and I got it set up. It recorded almost 4000 steps while I was on my bike. The bike clock and the SP clock must be different. The bike says I rode 20 min SP says 23. No bigy. The tracker is set you with 2000 steps being a mile I did find a way ti change it, It would require walking to the end of the road and back without the dogs. I don't feel right walking without the dogs, the dogs don't like me to walk without them and the miles aren't that important anyway. This could work.

Yesterday I took a customer, everything went good as far as I could tell. As I gave him his change he asked me if I was OK. I said yes why is something wrong? No it's just you counted my change back to me. I told him I was old enough to remember that's what you do. He told me he was old enough to appreciate it.

The strongest pain med I can take is regular ibuprofen and then 1 pill at a time more then 3 pills a day bother me. Since I like one before bed for my arthritis that means I only get 2 a day. Even when I had 3 wisdom teeth pulled at once all they diid was say I could take 2 pills before bed to help me sleep.

MaryAlice. I would think that walking, standing on cement all day would be very hard on feet and legs. I think you must do all you can to stay active on days off and some days you just need to give them a rest. I know when we are butchering and I am standing in one place on cement while I wrap the packages, I really feel it after only 4-5 hours. Do any medications help. I'm not great on pill taking but an Alive now and then relieve some of the aches and pains. emoticon

Today I have been more energetic, did my exercises and took the dog out for a walk. Bailey is a older little dog and has trouble keeping up on my walks to we just went around the block, takes about 15 minutes he seems to love it. ( emoticon got tired of carrying him with my longer walks so on those days he stays home.) I also went and had coffee with my friend this morning.
Does the weather affect your legs MaryAlice? Hope they get to feeling better for you.

For as we forgive, we are forgiven; as we condemn others, we are ourselves condemned. Thus in patience condemn not, neither find fault; not condoning, not agreeing, but let thine own life so shine that others, seeing thy patience, knowing thy understanding, comprehending thy peace, may take hope.

Good morning, my feet, knees and ankle are killing me today, oh well I'm only working 4.5 hours today and am off tomorrow.

I've been thinking about getting another pedometer, since I've never liked the cheaper pedometers, I went ahead and ordered the Spark Activity tracker. I don't get the walks I use to and think I can handle that I won't hit 20,000 steps a day. I have been wondering how much I walk in customer service. I quit wearing a pedometer because when I was a cashier I had a problem hitting 10,000 steps and it upset me. I was use to trying to keep it under 25,000 step, above that and my ankle would hurt the next day. Now my feet and ankle hurt most of the time and off work I tend to stay off my feet. I am riding my stationary bike more, so if this shows that maybe it will motivate me to ride more.

I love walking in the rain too. I don't even bother with the umbrella. My walking buddy, mutt, thinks rain is for sleeping. My problem is here rain normally has has a lightning show with it and while fun to watch, don't walk in them.

Good morning, I got a message that Mom got home. I'm posting her e mail. Marge, DS #3, is a web designer when you click on the lick, you will see some pictures. Click on the piture to see the show.

I am home from my wanderings. For a few pictures of my wanderings go to www.wanderingalice.com I did not take most of the pictures. I was too busy trying to keep the appropriate parts of my anatomy in contact with the ground.
A word of advice before you plan a week of touring National Parks, make sure they will be open. The state parks were great and the whole trip was wonderful.

We won't have any rain until the end of the week, and the temps are in the mid-80s, so when I walk tomorrow I will need to do it early in the morning. Trying to get exercise in every day this week because I gained a pound last week. Not too bad considering we had our 40th reunion last weekend!

Good morning!

It's raining here and will be a couple of days according to all the various weather folks. Low to mid 70s. Quite nice, we need the rain. Not so great for walking. Will have to do videos.

I hope everyone has a good day!

emoticon Best laid plans I was going for a walk then realized the dog had a strange cough? Went to the vet instead. Apparently he has broncitis from allergies and his ears were irritated so he got a shot of steroids. He also got all his shots updated.. poor pup he has only been with me for a few weeks. he is acting better tonight though I went to mail a package for my daughter's birthday, went to the UPS store..not open, then went to the local post office.. not open, then drove to main post office 20 min. away...it wasn't open either. I figure it just wasn't meant to be mailed today. So I emailed her with a link to a happy birthday song and told her I would mail the package when something opened. She just laughed.

Haven't been on here in a long time, but am happy to report 12 days ago I started the "Niki's 5 day detox diet. No sugar, salt, bread, caffein. Fresh vegetables, fruit, and black and garbonzo beans. Must drink green tea unsweetened (no artificial sweeteners) and drink a cup of warm water with lemon in it first thing of a morning. I am down 10.2 pounds from that date. I had gained since recording my weight on here.

"We are not what we know but what we are willing to learn."

Good morning. I took both dogs out together last night. They say you burn 100 calories a mile walking. i think you should double that with two dogs. I tried to take them both out this morning, but my shoulder couldn't take Dukes pulling and I had to take him home after 5 min.

I went to a breakfast for dinner potluck. There were pancakes. I commented that I would love some pancakes, but non of the syrups were diet friendly. The guy I was talking to was from Germany. He told me that in Germany they put apple sauces on pancakes and he had brought natural unsweetened apple sauce. It was good I think better then syrup.

They told me my smart phone was defective, it has a hardware problem. It can receive calls, but that is it. My old phone works 75% of the time. They said that % will start getting shorter and shorter, but I figure it is the better of the 2 right now and since I have to drive the unlit country roads at 11:30 to night I'll carry it till the new one gets here.

Wal-Mart gives me 2 days a year off, I have to ask for then in advance, The 2 days a week I get off normally change every week, so it I happen to et 4 days off in a row it would be miracle. I think they do this so you are tied to them.
