i have not gained a pound in over a year.

i gave up sugar and grain products and lost 44 pounds at age 61.

my sister lost 105 pounds at age 63 by walking 15000 steps a day and has not gained a pound back either in over a year

Hi there BRDARTIST and welcome to the 50+ SparkTeam!

I started SP September 1, 2012 and not once have I starved.

I eat healthy as opposed to dieting.

Moderation instead of deprivation.

I follow my own food plan because SP does not have one for those Sparkers who are gluten free.

So I eat what I've been eating since I became gluten free - I just make sure I use my digital scale to measure (portion) the nutrition I'm eating and then track it in the Nutrition Tracker.

Every meal. Every single time. Every day.

I even make sure I get a treat (roughly 80-100 calories) every single day - it gets included in my daily total.

It's less about the number on the scale (weight) and more about becoming the healthiest I can be.

You can do it!

Hi and emoticon ! I think you will find what you are looking for here. We are all in the same boat in one way or another. I concur with what everyone has said, and I would also add that posting is important. Check in often.

For me, I find exercise imperative. I walk with Leslie Sansone's DVDs. You can work as hard or easy as you need to, and you can decide how far you want to go. No matter what the weather you can exercise. What's not to like?!! emoticon

You don't need to starve yourself. You do have to make wise choices, and filling foods and eat slowly and exercise does help.

Mary Alice is right. With the food tracker you will see where calories are coming from. you can set up a nutrition plan that will show you where you should be for calories in one day. Also set up a fitness plan.

emoticon The Dr told me not to count calories. He controls the calories by saying no fat and not concentrated sweets, get use to that, go for portion control then start deleting unneeded calories. translate low fat. I put my foods in the tracker to stay accountable and have noticed that I'm within the calorie range. I do recommend that you track your foods. Weather you are counting calories or not. It helps to see what you have eaten written down.

Still finding my way...I have always hated counting calories. Will this site work for me??? I am 58, and always been a little overweight. Lost 35 lbs for first time in my life 3 yrs ago and kept off until I was diagnosed with a rare disease that makes me take prednisone! I have gained back the 35 lb...and am more than depressed about it. Will I find hope and help here? The way (only way) I lost the 35 lbs was my hubby did it with me. We walked every day and starved ourselves on meat and veggies, some fruits...but very small portions. It worked, but was very hard.
