STOP DON'T EAT IT
Cookies are my down fall. The package I bought yesterday started an all out binge. For me and my Hubby. We ate the whole package in less then an hour. I can not have cookies in my house. I need to remember that and if I must have a cookie just buy two at the bakery and eat them there. Forgive but don't forget.

I wanted to lose 20 pounds by our vacation. That would be my halfway mark. I've been dropping anywhere from 1-2 pounds a week - I was up to 7 lost.
BUT, drats ... after walking 88 miles with Leslie and 6 miles outside this December and tracking every bite that went into my mouth, except for Christmas Eve supper and Christmas Day, staying in my SP calorie range and drinking water to beat the band, I stepped on the scale this morning at the clinic where I weigh in about once a week and I gained two pounds. Can anyone tell me how that can be??? Sigh!
I also measured, and I did lose one inch in the waist and a little on the thigh and arm. That's a plus.
I've been on so many different kinds of diets over the past couple of years. I have done this same thing with each one ... I will lose right at 7 pounds and then the losing stops and those pounds come right back on. I was sure being on Synthroid was going to make a difference for me this time. I guess only time will tell the true story for sure. I'm a bit discouraged but I will .

Thanks for the welcome
Sharon~~ I love my nuts too, walnuts with fruit and cheese YUM
Kathryn~~ I still can’t control myself with cookies, usually one turns into DAYS of overeating, but today I only ate 1 ½ cookies even after baking them.
Dakota~~ chocolate … yum and nothing can satisfy that but CHOCOLATE. How much weight do you want to lose before the cruise?
Many times at night, I have curbed my overeating with dry fiber-One cereal; I lie on the couch and snack on a cup of that. Mindless munching for 120 calories and all that fiber.
Lately another strategy that has been working is upping my daily veggies to 6 servings and usually 4 of fruit. Not much room left for desert.
Tonight around 4pm I made a 4+ cup smoothie with 2 cup veggies 2 of fruit and right before dinner I will finish the last cup.
I welcome you to this team, too, Karen! It's great you are here, and man, can I just say on your weight loss?!! Fantastic! You can be an inspiration to the rest of us!
Thanks for your input, Miss Turtle and Sharon. Appreciate all your comments. I do like nuts, and I find they do fill me up better than popcorn or other snacks, just have to be sure and measure them and not eat out of the bowl. Sometimes I suck on a Hershey's nugget and get all the goodie out of it! Chocolate ... yum!

Karen
Sharon, I also eat a snack of nuts to hold me over until dinner. I like your idea of having a sweet as part of your dinner. I think I will go to the store now and get a little some thing to have, some thing like cookies or pudding
update 30 minutes later, I got reduced fat cookies, will have two after dinner with coffee.

Absolutely, Karen! You could be 1 lb. to 100 lbs. and still be welcome on this team.
DAKOTA, I also have a snacking problem. I get hungry in the afternoon and found a few nuts help hold me over until dinner. I have also found that if my dinner includes a small sweet at the end of the meal I do not have to snack for the rest of the evening. My sweet treats are a serving of cookie, a diet pudding or jello, or a serving of ice cream.

Yesterday, went well with a lunch date of Salmon, salad, and 1 bread stick. Finished my hour of cardio, ate 6 servings of veggies, and drank my water.
Today is DH’s birthday so mom and I will be making chocolate chip and peanut butter cookies for him.
OOPHS I am 10lbs to goal weight so can I still visit???

Christina, on getting a rowing machine, you should get a good work out on it

I can't say it is easy, but I'm persevering. (Did I spell that right?) My hard time is late afternoon and evening. I want to snack the whole time! So far I've managed to keep it pretty good and stay in calorie range. I read a SP motivation article and it said that is pretty normal ... sigh ... good thing. I posted a couple of pictures in my kitchen to help me stay motivated, and I've got a calendar I'm marking off posted too. We are taking a vacation with our kids in February, and I want to be back in my size 14s by then!

Too much candy and not logging was my big downfall. Also, my portion control is out of control. Getting back on track today! Bought a new rowing machine and will go on it every day. Starting with 5 min intervals so I don't get hurt. Good luck to all us 50+ ers!

Good for you, Miss Turtle! It's good to have a plan in place.
These two days since Christmas have been good ones for me. I've stayed in my target range for calories, and I've exercised my hour each day. I didn't weigh in this week. I drank some diet soda over Christmas, and it has sodium. My weigh-in day is Wednesday. I was afraid if I stepped on the scale and I gained, it would throw me. I'll weigh in next week. Come January 1 I'll use the tape measure and see if the inches are down.
Here's the of hope for all of you!

Hi everyone! Had a great Christmas with family. Everyone left this morning after breakfast, and I put my exercise DVD in after the table was cleared and the first load of laundry put in the machine. I love holidays but it is always nice to get back to "normal". Now it's time for more laundry, fixing lunch for DH, and then cleaning up a bit more. It's cold here! The trees were covered in diamonds this morning. Beautiful!
I didn't accomplish my goals completely over Christmas, but I'm satisfied with how it all went, and now it's time to just keep pushing on.

good read this morning- reading all the posts here. Christmas day- quiet, telling myself that I will eat better today and from now on. It seems as though I am not the only one who gives in to the temptations. It really bothers me that I start with one piece and the next thing you know, I fall right back in to the bad habits....how does it happen so quick? Too many days eating way over my calorie range. I feel sluggish, my gut is off, I have a zit!!!! Merry Christmas everyone

I know what you mean, I have not been staying in my calorie range and have seen the scale slowly go up. Last night it was birthday cookies. I was baking them I did not have to make so many. I sure did not have to eat so many. I was sick when I went to bed thought I was going to throw up. Today is a new day I can start out right and think before I eat.

It's sunny and lovely out ... but cold. I walked 5 miles this morning with Leslie. Took my shower and now I need to clean a bit and wrap some Christmas presents. I'm thankful that DH and I have been healthy this holiday season. Our pastor has influenza A, and at the clinic yesterday 11 more cases were confirmed.
Had a caroling party at church last night ... those who love to sing went out and shared the music with the town people. It's a yearly tradition that people look forward to. After the caroling had subs at church ... I did very well and stayed within calorie limit.
I weighed in and lost a pound but was hoping for 2. Makes me know I need to keep better track of food going into my mouth! No more going over the daily calorie limit! I do so want these pounds to come OFF!

Hi everyone. I haven't been around much recently as I have spent the last 6 weeks for the most part on the recliner trying to get the swelling out of my feet and ankles. Yesterday at our 3 month diabetes checkup I finally got to the bottom of my foot issues. I was finally diagnosed with gout in both ankles. I had previously had gout in my big toes, first one foot and 6 weeks ago in the other. Sometime in the past week it gravitated into the ankle. Needless to say, with gout in both feet walking is extremely painful. Most times gout is related to your diet.....too much red meat, asparagus, etc.....but in my case my own body is doing this to me. The doctor said that either my body is producing too much uric acid or I am not drinking enough water to eliminate enough of it. Since I drink between 8 and 12 cups of water a day (plus other fluids) and eliminate my water approximately 8 times a day (and let me tell you, climbing a stairs that many times a day is no fun when your feet are sore!) it appears that my body produces more than I can flush away. So I am now on two medications for it, one to reduce swelling and inflammation and another to try to slow down the production of uric acid in my body to prevent these frequent bouts of gout from recurring. I sure hope it works 'cause I am really tired of the constant pain. So if you don't see me around much know that I am in my trusty lift chair/recliner thinking about all of you and wishing I could be here more. HUGS to all.

Hello, All! Haven't checked in for about two weeks and wanted to say Merry Christmas to Everyone. Of course, we are all busy like everyone is this time of year and I have left down on blogging, but not charting and trying to keep up with the walking.
Over the river and thru the woods, there's lots to eat at Gram's, It's portion control, and eat it slow, so we can have the ya--ams! Over the river and thru the woods, it's pumpkin pie for me, Hooray for fun, and when we're done, Spark People works, you'll see!
Over the river and thru the woods, now I'm the grandma here, reducing fat and sugar, too, while spreading lots of cheer-eer! Over the limit of calories, well maybe just one time, but only when the fudge calls me, it really is sublime!
Enjoy your time with family and friends!

Today was a good day. I caught up on correspondence and on farm book work. I exercised for an hour doing LS new 4-mile plus surges DVD. Lots of new things on it. It was a workout! I finally stayed within my calorie limit and will try to do it the rest of the week too.

Got in to the candy I bought to put in the Christmas stockings last night. Not to much but enough to go over my calorie allotment again. Need to get a hold of myself. This season gets to me and I find myself wanting sweets.

Bad days for me too Turtle. DH made homemade cinnamon rolls!!!! He still is buying candy that I like too! Maybe I will be able to get hold of this thing while I am in CA visiting my boys for Christmas and New Years. Then again maybe I will just have to recommit when I get back home again. I am leaving this Sat. and coming home on the 5th of Jan.
We have our first snow here in Prescott. About 4 inches. The sun has been out most of the day so most of it is melted already. I took the dog out earlier and it was beautiful. About 35 degrees. It certainly does feel like winter now which I love.
Best go finish the laundry. Have a great day everyone.

I went over my calorie allotment last night. I found this bag of candy corn and ate half of it. I need to get a hold of this junk food buying and stop it. can't eat it if i don't buy it.

, Ms Turtle!
This week I've been over on calories at least three days, but I've upped the exercise. I had a note from Spark that if I'm going to keep exercising that hard, I'll need to re-evaluate the calorie range, so I guess all is well in the end.

I had a really nice day yesterday, ate with in my calorie allotment and only went over on the salt. Weigh in today I was down 2.2 pounds. I am pretty happy about that. Nothing much planned today For dinner tonight I am making pork chops with onions and apple. Also having home made potato salad and a green salad.

The omega 3 tablet added 'fat', but I guess it is ok, since it's the good kind. I'm trying not to worry too much, as I have just started and know that there will be days when things don't add up perfectly. I am struggling with my carbs - or the lack of. I feel that once I start eating carbs I'm hungry all the time, so I'm watching it closely. Today I will reduce some protein (yesterday was higher than the goal) and add a bit of carbs. But in all, I'm doing well, not craving anything, energy level is getting a little better.

I have been having trouble staying in my calorie range since Thanksgiving. I started a new streak today to stay in my calorie range for 100 days.

Hi everyone, tonight was my Christmas party. I thought about how I was going to track the things I ate. I asked those who made something how they made it, and then I came right home and started posting it all. I took a Fiber One 90 cal. brownie, a Fiber One 90 cal. bar and a cheese stick just in case but didn't eat any of them. I did pretty well at the party by picking and choosing. I didn't do so well last night when we went to a steak house for hubby's birthday, but it is done, and I'm moving on. I weighed this morning and lost, so I'm happy. Good luck to those of you who still have parties ahead of you!

Jane, Was the omega 3 tablet a good thing or a bad thing?
