We actually had a queen size air mattress in our storage facility and I did try sleeping on it. It was about the same as my Sleep Number mattress when I first got it. So, it was better but not significantly. I'm still not sure what I want to do as far as a new mattress. I just don't want to send a bunch of money on something and find out it isn't any more comfortable. Maybe I'll give the air mattress another try but put it on the platform (I have a platform under the Sleep Number mattress - not a box spring). When I tried the air mattress it was just on the floor in the living room.

Genesis2012 - Did you get the air bed at WalMart? If so, did it work for you?

I've been looking to replace my bed as well. I checked out the Tempurpedic brand but too expensive.!

I would also like the name of the foam topper...might help me.

Hi, Seniorswimmer - I sleep on a 5 year old Sleep Number Bed, which is essentially a high priced air mattress emoticon When I first got this bed it was great - but then that was before I fell flat on my back on a tile floor and broke my wrist and threw everything out of whack. Now this bed is just awful because the controller doesn't work correctly anymore to inflate and deflate and the only place I can now find this 5 yr. old controller model is on eBay for a ridiculously high price emoticon I didn't realize buying this bed was like buying a computer - they change the technology every couple of years on you so you have to spend more money. After reading your post, I'm tempted to buy a queen size air bed and just stick it on the platform I have already! This would certainly be a much cheaper option to buying another crumby bed that promises the world and then doesn't deliver. Thanks for the tip emoticon And, by the way, I don't give a hoot if it looks ghetto - if my back stops hurting, that's good enough for me!!

I have joint and back problems, and the best mattress I have found is the air bed you can buy at WalMart. They're about 50 bucks. Yes, it looks ghetto. Air bed on the floor, but I have slept like a baby most nights since we bought our first one 2 years ago. The ones we get are self-inflating. Plug it in and flip a switch. We put a well cushioned mattress pad on it. It's a little cold without one. Cheap and effective. What more could you want?

You can't beat a good mattress! I need to replace the matresses on our adjustable beds but don't know where to purchase them. These are Solenoid beds, not Craftmatic. If anyone can give me a clue it would be most appreciated.

Is there a brand name for this 4" "cool" pillow topper you bought? Did you purchased this item at a mattress store or department store??? Is it foam? Sorry for all the questions but I'm am having such a horrible time with my back and hips sleeping on a 5 yr. old Sleep Number Bed emoticon I have been thinking of buying a new mattress and getting rid of the Sleep Number Bed, but if I can save the money and get something like this that would work for me, that would be great. Thanks for any info you can share emoticon I'm so tired some days because I wake up constantly through the night trying to get comfortable. I fell flat on my back on a tile floor a year ago and have had back pain and sciatic nerve pain ever since. I went to a Chiropractor and he all but told me I'm going to have to live with this and I just have to use ice and heat. I do that and I also take a pain pill if it is really bad and I do okay during the day. This nighttime discomfort keeping me up is the part I'm not handling very well. emoticon I'll try anything to get a really good night's sleep emoticon

I recently got a 4 inch "cool" memory foam topper for the bed and it helps a lot (at a price I could afford.) With a lot of muscle spasms and some bad discs, I end up "tweaking" my mattress with pillows and pads. I did sleep on a pillow top at a friend's house that was just heavenly - and now I think a medium firm pillow top might be the best bed for me.

It seems the pillow is the hardest thing to get right. If I can get my head, neck, and shoulders properly supported and relaxed - then I fall asleep and sleep well. Right now I own 10 different pillows of various sizes and softness including a "dinosaur bone" chiropractic pillow. I move from one to the next and back again!
