There used to be a commercial for hair color (Clairol, maybe) that said, "You're not getting older, you're getting BETTER."

Turning 60 may mean more Senior Discounts! LOL
I was excited when I went to a Wendy's restaurant in my area, ordered iced tea and a salad and got a 10% Sr. Discount because I am over 55. It PAYS to get older. emoticon

Having trouble with the idea of turning 60 in a few months. Feel like I am getting old. I was excited to turn 50, I got to join AARP and I married my younger, handsome husband.

Can someone share what is cool about being 60, or even funny? How about something positive. My mind needs help. thanks

Having such trouble with over eating for the last few days! Maybe a session with my journal will help. I suspect it's too much busyness lately, but sometimes life is just like that.
I hope that the rest of our correspondents are having a sparking good day!

Good morning!
Still in the holiday week... yesterday was very problematic with food - we had three different special cakes... one that my daughter, the pastry chef, made... oh well.
The positive side is - I walked my 5K every day! emoticon
And today is a new day. Started with an early morning outdoor walk, then SparkCoach, including blogging and tracking... then a healthy breakfast... very quiet here today, at least till the afternoon - so I think I'm just going to relax and cross-stitch for a while.

I went to a 2 yr old birthday party yesterday at chucky cheese. I try to stay away from wheat. Ate alot of vegetable tray, to small slices of pizza, and a piece of cake. I also stay away from sugar. Today I am home where that stuff isn't around. I danced with my two yr old grandson at chuckys and danced with chuchy too!

One thing I was told about holidays that helped me. Concentrate on the people around you not the food. Be helpful with the serving to others and the cleaning up.

If you are a believer, go to the bathroom and say a prayer!

Happy Sunday!

Colibri, Holidays are always tough - too much good food available! You will be fine, I'm sure, because you have learned how to handle these times. Eat a little extra and don't beat yourself up. Just hop back on track again afterwards emoticon

Diane, The weather here in AZ is beautiful but still a little warmer then normal for this time of year. Can't wait for those 80's and 70's to be here. Glad you had fun with your grandson and that you were able to control your eating for the most part. It never makes sense to beat yourself up over a deviation because we are all going to have them from time to time. It's what we do in the long run that counts, and we are learning how to handle those days when we have to follow a different drummer. I look at those days as good practice for the upcoming Thanksgiving and Christmas Eat-A-Thons that will present themselves emoticon

I deviated a little on Friday - nothing too horrible - but we went to the baseball game and I ate a half of a cold cut sub. It was my dinner and I had a very light lunch so I didn't feel bad. I probably should have skipped the ice cream but I'm only human and it's not going to make a difference in the long term, so what the heck! emoticon

Hope everyone enjoys the day and I look forward to a new month tomorrow! Wow - October already. Where does the time fly? emoticon emoticon

Afternoon All,

Hope your area is enjoying a perfect autumn Sunday -- as is the case in NYC.

True Confessions: since joining SP on 8/10, I've been dutiful. But yesterday (in keeping up with an energetic 2-yr. old grandson) I took a reprieve. No tracking, exercising, eating balanced means, downing buckets of water or posting on our SparkTeam Page.

Oddly enough though, somewhere in my brain was an automatic trigger that wouldn't let me stray too far off of the beaten (calorie intake) path. Nope, I didn't eat the homemade waffles and sage sausage; yes, I took a pass on the mall Food Court. I did, though, throw caution to the wind and sorta folded all of the days' meals into one. Nothing riduculous -- just didn't touch upon all of the food groups! And alas -- NO guilt. Here I am today with the same determination and purpose and back on my game. Guess it was all of this Team's angels perched on my shoulders giving me permission to enjoy the journey in a real-life way...

emoticon ~Diane emoticon

Genesis, love, love, love the hair cut!!! What a pretty woman! emoticon

Puggybug, your attitude and humor are definitely your strongest assets and will see you and your DH through this tough time. emoticon

Love to hear what everyone's doing - I'm trying to sell my house so I can move in town and so have a loooong TO DO LIST. The bad news is: my daughter lost her job last week...the good news is: she's coming over to help with my list! I'm sure she'll be working again soon, so I'm grateful for the time she's giving to me.

Dietwise, I started the Paleo diet last Sunday and have lost 2 pounds this week...lessons learned, I didn't realize how many things I was eating that had sugar in it! And I'm definitely feeling the withdrawl! emoticon

The air has cleared some (still see the smoke on the horizon) so will try walking outside this weekend. Send that rain my way, DACGARDENS!

Mornin' All...

It's raining buckets here in NYC this morning. But the upside is that it's happening on company time; come the weekend (aka "My Time!") the forecast is for dry and sunny!

Looking forward to tonight's sleepover at my house with the grands (soon-to-be 14 yr. old and 2 1/2 yr. old). My granddaughter loves Buffalo wings so that'll be dinner (I'll debone a few and add to my LARGE salad)! She also makes delicious home-made waffles. So for breakfast I'll be enjoying 1/2 of one with fresh fruit (compared to days of yore -- whole one with maple syrup!).

May today be the beginning of an easy weekend; and that we all find joy in the small things that bring a smile. ~Diane emoticon

THANK YOU SparkTeam members. The msgs posted yesterday came perfectly at the right time. Yesterday was difficult. Thank you for your prayers, I know when people are praying for me (and DH). I can feel it!

I am sure today will be better.

BTW - I know DH = dear husband, but DH also stands for dermatitis herpetiformis which is a condition that I suffer from so I don't use it much when posting. When I first saw DH used on msg boards a couple yrs ago, I just had to laugh. Every time I saw it, I thought, "Wow, there are more people out there with Dermatitis Herpetiformis than I ever imagined."

Puggy, am sorry to hear your husband got laid off. What everyone says is true. I recently read that we should be happy for our obstacles/issues for they bring us closer to God and we learn more about ourselves. They're another opportunity to grow and progress. I am able to get to that attitude for about a minute and am hoping I can look at my challenges more and more as opportunities.

I too will pray for you and your husband.

Puggy, I haven't been able to post much this last week but I did read your post about your DH being laid off. I'm so sorry. Keep the faith and, yes, God does put us in the right places and He also puts the right people in our lives - sometimes just not on our time-table. Stay strong and emoticon with Spark. All things will resolve themselves. I used to work with "dislocated workers" - which is just another way of saying people who were laid off. I've seen the worry and the frustration - and the hurt. Losing a job feels very "personal" and a lot of the men I worked with shared with me that they felt they were letting their families down. That's a big load to carry. Keeping a positive attitude will help your DH get through this with a lot less pain too. You will definitely be in my prayers, Puggy.

Diane - get a new mirror emoticon I have one of those Cheval mirrors - freestanding mirror - and I love it because if you swing it on a bit of an angle you look really thin! emoticon Not really "dishonest" because if you feel good about the way you look, you look better. Don't fall for the lies on those diet ads on TV either - those 50+ women in bikinis never were overweight or they've had "work". I know a lot of people who have kept active all their lives, never were overweight, and some never even had children - they still don't have the bodies of 20 and 30 year old's in their 50's and 60's. Besides, who are we trying to impress? I go to swimming pools 4-5 times a week and I am not seeing any great bodies on men in their 50's and 60's. There are a few of these guys that actually have the nerve to put on Speedo bathing suits! Someone should give them one of those full length mirrors emoticon It should be against the law to sell a Speedo to a guy over 18 emoticon

I decided I needed a change so I got my hair cut off today! It is short but I think it is going to be a lot easier for me to deal with because my hair is ultra-thick. DH is always telling me I hog the bathroom for 2 hrs. when I get out of the shower. I keep telling him that it takes me a long time to dry my hair and then I have to do the makeup thing, etc. What's with these men emoticon They all want wifey to look good but they don't want you to take the time in the bathroom to do what it takes. At least I'm doing "bathroom things" and not using it as a library emoticon

Have a good evening!

Hey PuggyBuggy,

I'm a FIRM believer that God puts people in our lives when we need them most... And this Spark Team shows up right on time. NOW I know where all that smoke was coming from that I noticed afar -- it was the residue from your negative junk box! Stay strong.

Yesterday had me off kilter and I wasn't able to track in my normal way. But today is a new beginning and I'm On It!

Wishing everyone an easy day. ~diane emoticon

Just want to say a big THANK YOU to all the team members who posted words of encouragement and support for me. This past week since my husband was laid off from his job has been a real rollercoaster ride. Lots of stress - will we have enough money to keep up with the bills until he finds a job, medical and health issues, helping to keep him from sliding into depression, etc.
Now I understand why the good Lord led me to Sparkpeople when He did. I found and joined SP one week before my husband lost his job. God knew I was going to need positive people and a positive, uplifting place I could interact with any (every) day, as needed.
With last week being so crazy and my normal routine completely disrupted, I half heartedly tracked. Got on the bathroom scale yesterday and it said I had gained 3 lbs. this week!!!!
But this morning I put the worry, stress, and negative junk into a box and burned it, mentally of course. I AM BACK and ON TRACK!!

Thank you dear SP friends for your support. It means absolutely everything to me.
Now I am taking the dog and going for a much needed walk.

Are you sure your mirror is a good one. The mirror at the gym where I do Zumba makes us all look fatter. If I look at myself in my refrigerator door (It is reflective black) I look skinnier. If your clothes are looser and the scale is dropping you are losing weight. Sadly not necessarily where you may want to. My wrists and neck lost a lot of weight so that my necklaces hang lower and my watch band was irritatingly loose. My wedding ring now fits on my right hand. That belly on the other hand seems to stick out more now that it is not as hidden in all the rest of the flab I used to have there emoticon

Answer please, anyone?? emoticon So I'm doing ALL the right things: tracking nutrition and fitness; eating healthy; drinking enough water to float a cruise ship; and exercising dutifully (sidebar: elliptical trainer arrives tomorrow - YEAH!!). The scale is moving south and my energy level is on the rise!

This morning I brace myself and take a look in the full-length mirror. To my dismay EVERYTHING looks just as it did on 8/10, which is when I began my SP journey. WHY??? I'm trying not to be discouraged but, geez...

Thanks for any feedback... ~Diane emoticon

Nothing like those yummy biscuits to derail a good diet! I've had to quit making them altogether; we eat bread with our soup now.

Today, may we all face our temptations with strength and our failures with gentleness.

Keep in mind there is no bad food. Track what you ate and don't sweat it. Fat is a necessary part of a healthy diet and as long as you only eat butter occasionally it will not derail you.

Hi everyone,
Friday I was discouraged because I had gained 2 lbs. Friday afternoon I had lunch with my friend, and former vegan turned cave woman. After 6 weeks, she has lost 10 lbs. and feels great! I want more energy and lose weight!!! So, here I am making a new start...Don't worry, my motto is: The worst it can be is a big mistake and I can always change my mind emoticon

So, I bought and read the Paleo Diet book, read it, went shopping and after only 2 days have lost the 2# I had gained. Again, don't worry, it's not like the Adkins diet; it has lots of fruits, veggies and nuts, as well as lean, natural meat. In only two days I've become aware that I've been eating cereals because of the sugar not because it was good for me!!! emoticon

AND IT'S RAINING!!! The air is clearing up and hopefully it will keep raining until the fires become manageable... emoticon

Keep up the good work and keep in touch!!!
Kathleen

We had what I thought was a good drenching rain yesterday so I was surprised when I went to work in the yard today, the rain gauge showed only a little rain and the ground was not as wet as I would have thought as I tugged on those pesky weeds. Winter weeds are starting to grow now so I need to stay ahead of them.

Hi All,

Hide those Cheetos, eh, Ginny? For me it's the Tostitos Lime Chips! And what good are the chips without the guacomle? Joined SP on 8/10 and haven't had either since then. But Hark! There's light at the end of the tunnel; once I'm 1/2 way to goal, I'll be celebrating with 20 chips (vs. 1/2 bag!) and a tablespoon of guacomole!

Happy Autumn... ~Diane emoticon

Puggybug, emoticon to hear about your husbands job loss. I will keep you both in my prayers for a new job and insurance for you.

Keykat, no, you aren't the only one gaining weight. I have gained 2 since last weigh in. But it is my own fault. The past 2 days I have been over my calories. DH is really trying to sabotage me. He keeps bringing in everything that I like. emoticon emoticon Which includes cheetoes crunchy, potato chips and york peppermint patties emoticon What the heck emoticon Have been doing all of my exercises so if I can just stay out of the kitchen I will be ok.

I hope everyone has had a good day and have a great weekend.

Hugs,

Puggybug, sorry to hear about your hubby's layoff. Been there, done that. Mine worked at his plant for 33 years before they closed it. In the meantime, he's gotten a job as "Barney" at a security co. emoticon , works with post high school kids at a calling center, is low key
(nice after his heart attack), and was asked to be the lead singer in a rock band! (Now this man makes a joyful noise and can't carry a tune in a basket...what a hoot!) emoticon

Just weighed-in and can hardly believe I've GAINED weight!!! Aaargghh...please tell me I'm not the only one to ever do this! I don't think it's muscle weight (but thanks if you were thinking about saying that). And I've been within the limits on my food tracker. But maybe I need to more something and less something else..??? I haven't been making 8000 steps a day (too much smoke here to walk outside and even inside it affects how I feel) but I wasn't doing 8000 before I started SparkPeople, either.

Pretty pathetic to be whining when everything else in my life is good...sorry...and really sorry about your hubby's job, PUGGYBUG. Prayers and positive thoughts for a quick resolution for this problem!

Have a good weekend everyone - I'll be doing a rain dance emoticon

PuggyBug - so sorry to hear about the job loss. emoticon

I'm on vacation next week and unfortunately have used that as an excuse not to do much this week eating or exercise wise. I've been getting my walking in, but that is it.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Mornin' All,

PuggyBug - very sorry to hear about the job loss. May you and your husband find the strength to get through any of the challenges that lie ahead. And as I've found, this SP team is simply the best; there are always listening ears a click away.

TGIF... I admit to lacking in exercise these past two days; in part because of time commitments. But I'm giving myself permission to add flexibility to my journey. I've been really good with my nutrition tracking and manage to stay on point (and even under) every day. And THAT! counts for something!

Wishing everybody an easy transition into the weekend. ~Diane emoticon

I can empathize with you. We were without health insurance for about 9 years. We both had part time jobs when my husband lost his FT job and there was not enough to buy insurance. Our needs were usually met on the payment plan. When my husband needed finger surgery, we qualified for hospital care, but not the physician. It took a long time to pay that bill.

Stay on the journey you started, tomorrow will be better. Use us as a sounding board. Everyone needs someone.

God Bless

My husband was laid off from work today. emoticon
Along with no income, we will have no health insurance, and possibly a long time before finding a new job. The economy is still not good where we live (which is why my husband was laid off).

So glad I joined SparkPeople!! I CANNOT afford to become depressed and frustrated now. I was just starting to feel like I am finally on the road to success with my overweight issues, and making really good changes and goals for self improvement. I MUST continue with my plans for myself, especially NOW! Maybe this new situation will actually give me more of a spark to really get me fired up about doing positive things for myself! emoticon

Thank you everyone for letting me vent.

We are having a beautiful day here in PA today. DH and I were outside putting in some solar lights in the small flower garden in the front yard. They are suppose to take 12 hours of sunlight to charge. Can't wait to see them lit up!

Was so stuffy yesterday it was hard to breathe. Still, I did do some aerobic walking last night. Today, I seemed to have relapsed a little but. Hope you all are having a great day!

Hello, All!

Wow! So many newbies. Isn't this great!

Haven't written for awhile. Changing furniture around one week. Have been ill with a couple of different things a couple of different weeks. Have not exercised since last Friday. Not well enough. BUT getting better. Seems like I lost out on a lot by not chatting on this forum. Hope to do better soon.

Be well and keep Sparkin'!

Good Morning,
Been a while since I have posted, so much life happening. DH's promotion (induction) is done and he is recovering. Have still managed to continue on my journey. This morning's weighin made me happy. I cannot believe I have lost 20lbs and halfway to my goal.

Welcome all newbies, you won't be "new" very long. This group is the nicest and warmest people I have ever encountered. Thank you all for being here with me.

All I can say is "Keep on Sparking" and have a wonderful fall day!

Evening All...

Another glorious day in NYC. Happy to New Year to those celebrating Rosh Hashanah.

Catspark57 - A Warm Welcome emoticon . I'm pretty much a newbie, too; entering my 6th week on SP and this phenomenal Team. Everyone has made me feel so welcome; I liken it to sitting around the kitchen table chatting with dear friends. It's amazing how huge doses of support and encouragement come from words (and emoticons) on a screen.

And LadyCarol -- emoticon Your feedback was JUST what I needed to take the leap! I've done my research and tomorrow I'll be headed off to the sporting equipment store to check out which elliptical trainer to buy!

BabysMama12 - emoticon Sounds like taking your walk, solo, was not in the plan. And so you did the next best thing -- change the plan! And 5 miles to boot! WoW. I don't think I've EVER walked that far. My max has been Leslie Sansone's 3 mile DVD.

Wishing you'all a good night. emoticon ~Diane

emoticon Catspark emoticon Glad you found us! As you said we are all supportive of one another. emoticon You will be joining in on the chats with all of us soon.

Help!!!!!! For the second time this year I have put a recipe in the calculator and the number of servings has come out wrong emoticon
I made a chicken apple salad and instead of 4 1 cup servings it says 1 serving emoticon I don't know where to go or how to change it. I tried but no luck.

Carol AZ, sorry your sleep number bed doesn't work for you. My sister has one but she doesn't like it either. Says it doesn't make any difference to her. I know they do cost a lot.

Today my gym buddy flaked out on me again emoticon so I decided to do a 5 mile walk instead. emoticon It has one really long hill and several more inclines. Took me 80 minutes which is a 16 minute mile emoticon At least it was a lot easier coming bake home. I took plenty of emoticon with me. I think I may start doing it 2 or 3 times a week.

Hope all of you are having a great day.

Hey Everyone,
I'm a Newbie to Sparkpeople and to your discussion forum. Still finding my way around the site and navigating how to work with all the tools. There is definitely a learning curve, and it does seem like solid material to work with. So far, I'm in love with the food tracker and the recipes. Just finished cleaning out my fridge, freezer and cabinets--I'm going gluten free to see if that helps with colitis and fibromyalsia. Tired of feeling tired. Any in your forum, you all seem so supportive and nurturing of one another. I was definitely attracted to that. I know I will need support on this adventure. And I know that supporting others is helpful to me. Hoping you all have a lovely night and I hope to be able to find my way back to this forum!! emoticon

Good Sunday, everyone,

We had a good day outdoors, enjoying this beautiful September weather. We went to Greenbrier State Park near Boonsboro, MD, and walked around the lake there. Stopped at a tavern for a cold drink afterwards. Texted my son to say that we were in a biker bar!! Hope your weekend was relaxing and enjoyable, too.

Colibri, the Mary Sutter book was very good. I'm reading another book now for the next discussion called "The Other Woman's House' by Sophie Hannah, a psychologica thriller, which I like. While we were in Boonsboro today, I got the first in the Boonsboro trilogy by Nora Roberts. It is about a fictional family that restored a hotel in Boonsboro. All the places that are mentioned in the series are real and places we see there. Makes it fun to read. Nora Roberts and her husband restored a hotel there, so must be based on that. Congratulations on the new baby! I would love to visit Jerusalem. We are working our way through the Bible at our study and seeing the places for myself would be wonderful.

Diane, hope your w/e was relaxing after your busy week. SP does indeed give us motivation. I'm still tracking my food. I'm totally amazed. I'm doing very well on my walking. I've added more steps this week, a personal goal. Wearing my pocket ped sure helps. I can understand you wanting to have the elliptical trainer in your home. There is something to be said for convenience. My sister has a treadmill in a room in front of the tv and I like to jump on it when I stay there. I could see that it would be helpful. Just have to be honest with yourself as to whether you would use it and do you have plenty of room. I'm thinking that you could always sell it, if you changed your mind later. Keep us posted.

Kathie, you are right in that it is the interaction with others 'who understand our pain'....lol, that is the true blessing of SP. I agree with you and applaud our teachers!! emoticon

Carol AZ, sorry to hear that your sleep number mattress isn't working. I thought they were supposed to be the best. I sleep with lots of pillows since my heart surgery. Turning to my left side still is not comfortable. I have one really long pillow that I love and lean on. You are right to investigate with having back pain. Getting a good night's sleep is so important. Good luck to you.

Ginny, your special yoga class sounds good. Wish you could show us what you learned. My chair yoga is working out well, too. I do feel more flexible even after just a couple classes. I should do the exercises at home.

Carol PA, emoticon Good job on being at the 140's. That is my goal, too, but I've got to get through the 150's first!! Wow, exercising before work. You are the smart one. Bet you are feeling more energized. Do you wear a ped at work? Chasing those kids around would be lots of steps.

Mennoly, I like your idea of taking a break from fretting about weight. That is probably the best attitude anyway. Just making the healthiest choices at the time and not obsessing probably works and might be longer lasting.

Greetings to all you other teamies. Have a good week and remember to take good care of yourself.

Blessings always,
Lady Carol

Evening... Another glorious weather-day in NYC. Hope the same applied to your neck of the woods.

How I got the resolve to go to a Barbeque last night and not be the least tempted to go off message -- I'll never know! But I did! Today, though, was slightly different. Having one serving of my favorite Tostito Lime Chips simply wasn't enough (6 chips). So I had two servings instead... Oh well. Maybe not so bad since I just finished day 4 of the 28-day boot camp DVD. Nothing left but to sorely fall into bed !

Wishing all a peaceful night. emoticon ~Diane

COLIBRI1
Last year I purposely took a holiday from fretting about my weight during the holiday season. For me they start in mid November and go through mid January. Thanksgiving and Christmas bookended by the birthdays of my older two children. I gave myself permission to gain 5 pounds in that period. I had a very enjoyable holiday season, gained 8 pounds but was back down to pre-holiday weight by January 31st. All in all just fine for me. I did not feel deprived and I made the holidays a part of my new lifestyle which again for me includes permission to over indulge occasionally as long as I am still in control. Everyone needs to find what works for them for these things, but giving myself permission made it a thoughtful decision and not an oops.

Good morning to all! 6AM here, before sunrise...
Tonight we celebrate Rosh Hashana, the Jewish New Year. It is followed by almost a month of holidays... a very challenging time for losing weight or even exercising...
emoticon
We have the whole family here for the holiday, and I haven't even really started cooking...
Yesterday was our son's birthday (22, but something acting more like 2 emoticon ), so I thought I could taste a little cake... not a wise decision, of course.
Well (sigh), it's a new day today.
I won't have a chance to do any SP fitness videos, with everybody here and all - but I'll certainly try to sneak out and walk!
AND REMEMBER TO EAT REASONABLY!

If you know you will use it then it makes a lot of sense. I have a treadmill but really prefer walking outside in good weather. I use an elliptical at the gym, I don't know if I had one that I would use it at home. There is something about going to the gym that forces you to do your workout. When it is in the house I seem to always have a reason why I shouldn't do it just now. But that is me. You can have a totally different mindset.

Mornin'...

Ahh, a crisp Saturday morning! Now that I've gotten my chores out of the way, onto my exercise (guess changing over entire closets from a mish mosh of hangers to the new ultra-slimline, velvet-line ones doesn't REALLY count as a workout -- vs. vacumming where you can work up a sweat!)

Genesis2012: About 3 yrs. ago I spent a Spa weekend at this decadent Inn in CT where the bedding was heaven-like. I couldn't distinguish between whether it was the linens or matress. It turned out to be both. Little did I know that commonly the Inn guests checked w/ Hospitality to get the 411 on their bedding. Long story short, I now own a Serta Garrett Super Pillow Top mattress, totally replicating my stay at the Inn. Not too soft nor too hard. Good luck w/ finding just the right fit for your needs.

Question/HELP: Right now all of my exercise routines are with DVD's (including Spark's 28-day Boot Camp!). I'm torn between buying an elliptical trainer (or not). I'd joined a gym a few years back and had the best workouts ever using one. A great part of the reluctance is price. So here I am trying to rationalize. Having the freedom to get in a 15-min, 30-min., or whatever (and whenever) workout would be perfect. I've converted my 2nd bedroom into an office where a spacesaver-sized one would fit just fine. And I visualize using it as a life-long tool. But I just can't move forward with a decision? Originally I thought, "o.k., look for a used one on Craigs List or Ebay." But my luck being what it is, I haven't come across any spacesaver ones. I welcome your advice.

Have a Great Saturday. emoticon emoticon ~Diane

Good morning to everyone. Sounds like a lot of you are enjoying the same beautiful weather we're having here in PA.

It's nice to see so many newbies on our team. emoticon to all of you. As you're already learning, SP is a great site and my weight wouldn't be where it is today (1# away from the 140s!!) if it weren't for the great resources and support here. emoticon

Still trying to fit in enough exercise each day, now that school's back in session. I'm doing the short cardio videos on SP before school in the morning, and I did some ST this week after work. But it's still a struggle finding the time. I figure, as long as I'm doing SOMETHING, it's a good thing. I'll just increase my time or # of days each week until I get where I need/want to be.

Speaking of which, gotta go make my oolong tea and get started on next week's lessons.

Keep sparking, all! emoticon

emoticon Good evening everyone.

Went to lunch emoticon emoticon with my friend Helen.

Today I didn't go to my regular emoticon class. Instead a friend and I went to a special class on yoga for your back. It is put on by the wellness center at our hospital. It was really wonderful. Most of the moves that we did I already do. The difference is that they were held longer so you got the full benifit of the pose. It was so relaxing! during the relaxaction phase I could have gone to sleep! emoticon It is a 3 session class. She also gave us a sheet of the poses that we did.

Carol AZ I was really thinking of you and wished that you could have been there with me. Just the time there really made a difference in the rest of the day.

Hope all of you have had a great day.

Wow, so much going on and I can't remember everything said in this thread long enough to respond to everyone! Must be having "Senior Moments." emoticon I'm going to have to start jotting things down as I read through the board.

Colibri, I was also wondering where you lived when you mentioned seeing the storks migrating! Israel - how fantastic! Isn't it absolutely wonderful that we can communicate with, and have Spark Friends, all around this big world of ours! I feel so blessed by this! You have had some great events in your life recently - the wedding, the new baby girl in the family. Congratulations on all that and your very positive efforts in reaching your Spark goals too! emoticon

Carol WVA, Glad you're back on target with your nutrition tracker. I don't know about you, but I can say that without my tracker, I am clueless emoticon I have this marvelous way of blocking what and how much I've eaten from my mind! I absolutely need my nutrition tracker to succeed - it is truly my lifeline. The book you are reading sounds really interesting. I'm going to see if I can get it on my Kindle. Unfortunately, I haven't had a lot of time for reading lately and I miss it.

Diane, I hope you will enjoy the weekend and get some rest in after that first hectic week of school. I agree that what you are doing for yourself with Spark is an excellent example for your students. This really takes a lot of self-discipline and a sincere desire to succeed, as well as requiring one to stay focused on the "prize." There is much to much of the "I want it, and I want it now" mentality floating around today. It's time to start teaching our kids that sometimes you just have to wait for things, and that good things are worth waiting for!

Okay - I've got a question. Who has a mattress they absolutely love? I bought a Sleep Number bed 5 years ago and it is not working at all any longer. The controller doesn't work properly and you can't even buy the one I have anymore - DH saw some on eBay and they were totally out of line in price! Anyway, I want to buy a new mattress and would like to get some recommendations. I like a semi-firm mattress - not soft but not a rock either. I suffer from chronic back pain and my right hip gets pretty stiff on occasion so if anyone else has a similar problem and found a mattress that is comfortable, I'd love to know what brand and model it is. emoticon

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Isn't it wonderful to feel that energy and motivation to keep moving forward with SparkPeople? The "Spark" is there for sure, but so much of the benefit comes from these great folks we get ot interact with through our Spark Teams.
Diane, you must be a teacher. Thanks for all you do! We sure need more excellent teachers who set good examples to our children, the way you are by losing weight and exercising. The kids will see your spark. The gift of a good teacher goes beyond the classroom. Good for you!

TGIF!!!! Thanks, all for ranking your seasons. I guess it REALLY makes a difference depending on where you live! I'm thinking of NY and Chicago winters compared to Arizona and California winters!

Colibri1 - much congratulations on the newest addition to your family! A baby girl -- I'm sure she is purely delicious!

I'm so looking forward to this w/e. This is the real FIRST full week of school and by the end of the day I'm feeling like a wet dishrag. But I manage to get in that evening exercise regimen!

I wonder if there's some chemical in this SparkTeam Page that has me hypnotized whereby I'm eating properly, drinking adequately, and sweating through workouts -- even when the temptation to do just the opposite can be a mere FINGERTIP away!

Hope you have an easy Friday. emoticon ~Diane

Lady Carol, the book you discussed sounds great! I didn't hear of it before, googled it now... I would love to read it!
Did you read "Shaman" by Noah Gordon? One of my favorites.

We are in Israel, near Jerusalem. Many birds pass here during their migrations. Storks visit each fall and each spring (maybe that's why the birth rate here is relatively high...)

Speaking of this, we were very excited to hear that my husband's niece gave birth early this morning to her first baby girl. They got married exactly a year ago. So of course all our kids, her cousins, are thrilled!
