Lots of good advice given already. I usually eat a good breakfast and lunch. If I get hungary in the afternoon I will eat a 100 calorie bag of almonds or a 90 calorie granola bar. Water also helps most of the time. Good luck with good food choices.

When I need a "life" I drink a carton of Activia, especially after a hard workout. I love the stuff. Also I drink a glass with FRS (look it up on the internet) or have 1/2 turkey sandwich on a spinach wrap with letture and tomatoes. If it is just a light lift I want, seedless grapes or cherries do the trick! Veggies, sorry....

When I get the munchies, I usually start out by drinking a glass of water. If that doesn't help, I try to take my mind off it by finding something to do in the house...if that doesn't work...I eat an orange or something.

Ohhhhhh those dam munchiessssss.....I hear you BIG time as well.

I agree with most posts as a stategy for the munchies can be muliti-layered to help in any situation.

My worse time is evening and I had to use some stategies for that.

First off are you having a good breakfast? If you are not your blood-sugar will fall in the afternoon -creating those nasty munchies. Try it as it does work.

I used to mistake thirst for food...dahhhhhh, so try the water idea as a delay tactic to seeing if it is thirst or hunger.

Chewing Gum is great when I need to just chew and have a little sweetness. I won't use the artificial flavouring sort as there is too much controversy over it. I use pellet gum.

Munching legally, I started to add munchies into my day. I like dip but now buy lisa's hommus dip which is much lower in calories and use rice crackers as the biscuit instead of rice crackers. I pre-pack the chippies in plastic bags to a calorie value and work out how much dip I can have ie 1 tablespoon. I don't just sit down and eat it from the pack...ooooooo noooooooooooooo I would eat the whole thing.

If it is sweet you want try an apple or orange, these are surprisingly sweet and filling especially the apple.

Try to prepare for this time by making a prepared list of calories so you can snack legally......

I found as I became more in control of my appetite by doing this things got easier.

In the early days I just could not keep ANYTHING tempting in the house. I cleaned it all out YES by eating it....LOL.......slowly though..........

Oh another thing I like is choc milk iceblocks......again ok if you know the calorie count.

Like everyone has said, healthy snacks are good, water may really be what your body is asking for..........otherwise EXTRA spearmint gum works for me and the flavor stays a long time and it's only 5 calories a stick.

There is nothing wrong with snacking in mid afternoon if you "budget" for it.

Try healthy alternatives for some of the stuff that lurks in most vending machines.

Try drinking more water, sometimes that is why you are hungry. We just think that our bodies are asking for food and it really is asking for water.

Thank you all for the great ideas. I made it through the afternoon with just the gum chewing! Dinner was healthy & great. AND I was able to stop myself from over-eating! Whooo-whoooo! Thanks for your support and encouragement!

I think you're onto something here. It started raining right after lunch - when the munchies hit!! I had wanted to be outside & now I can't!

I think I'll try exercising to a video & see if that helps!

I'm glad the gum is helping. I don't suppose you can go for a walk or do some other activity until the munchies go away. Usually when I have the munchies I'm bored and need to get my mind on something else. Getting up and moving helps.

I'm not hungry - so I don't want to eat. I do plan on healthy snacks - for when I'm hungry. I do enjoy celery & green peppers though. I just WANT to shove something in. So far the supermint gum has helped.

Okay - it's afternoon again and I'm not really hungry, but I WANT to munch on something. I've held off so far by chewing extra gum. I started with a fruit one, but it didn't last long enough. So now I'm chewing supermint. It's helping a bit, but dinner is still a ways away and I don't want to blow my plan of healthy eating today.
