Good idea for a game!

Today was better, and Lucy is feeling so much better. Tonight she tried to jump up on the back of the couch from the floor, didn't quite make it and hung there by her claws until I rescued her. She's now asleep on my legs as I type this. It's good to see her healing so fast.

I got "trapped" at work until 6:30. The trip to Casa Grande went really well, and it looks like my class might fill. I'd like that.

Tomorrow we drive to New Mexico. It's supposed to be windy going, and wet and (in the beginning) snowing. I hope that it's dry here Sunday morning, as if it is, Falcao gets to go to the Saguaro National Park for a well earned trail ride.

I will check in as I can. Have a great weekend until I see y'all again!

Good morning, team.

Well, yesterday was certainly one of those! We are going out of town tomorrow for my mom's 80th birthday party, and I've been running around trying to get stuff done so we can leave. DH has to work, but he is not being very helpful in the evenings. Yesterday I had the guild business meeting (my last as president -- YEAH!), then had to deal with the vet as little Ms. Lucy had shown some liver enzyme problems when they drew blood before her spay surgery. The more intensive tests showed she only had one enzyme up, so they did the surgery, and today she is looking better.

I also had a doctor's appointment to check my blood pressure. Darn if I didn't have to step on his scale. It's up a lot from mine at home, and I hate to get on it. But I used it as a wake up call.

Today I'm taking a quilt up to Casa Grande. It's one I'll be teaching, then I need to get fabric for the Celtic one I'm teaching next. Then home to ride, then the final laundry and packing.

We'll be gone until Sunday night. So there's not a lot of packing to do.

In some ways I'm not looking forward to this trip. I have one sister that has a way of getting on my nerves and if I fall for it, I'll end up being an unpleasant person to be with. I am going to try to keep my cool and concentrate on my other sisters, and my brother that I haven't seen for a while.

So y'all have a good Thursday. I may check in tomorrow before I leave, and then will check in here as I can this weekend.

Have a good one!

Good morning. And it is a good morning. This morning I heard not 1 but 2 owls and a rooster. I don't ever remember hearing 2 owls on the same morning. Not even when I knew there were 2 out there.

I didn't get to play the card game last night. Beka had homework. We'll do it tonight. I thinking I'll change it up and do legs and abs tonight and arms tomorrow. Anyone want to join me?

Where can I get such a 7yr old? I need someone to watch over me and keep me focused.

Doctor's appointment went well, and meds are back under control. I am a bit frustrated because the demands of others have limited my "me" time, and I miss it.

I'll check in later tonight with how the day went.

Judy I'm behind you all the way. I need to lose the weight so I don't have to have my legs operated on. I enlisted the help of my family. My biggest helper is a 7 year old with self esteem problems(Her dad lives 2000 miles from here and for the 2ed time in a year her mom is in a woman's detox center). I told her she could be my trainer. I let her watch biggest loser to see what a trainer does. She is good at tell me "that's not on your diet" or "time to exercise". She has even found exercises we can do together.

We are doing her favorites tonight. The card game. That is where we give each suit an exercise. You turn over the cards 1 at a time doing the exercise for that suit, 10X the # shown on the card. So if hearts are wall push ups and you turn over the 9 of hearts you do 90 wall push ups. Then you see how many cards you can turn over before you can't go on. My highest is 13, but I lucked out and didn't get any face cards that night. Of course it helps if she picks exercises that are easy to do allot of. I have her pick out 1 arm, 1 leg, 1 ab and 1 cardo.

Good morning. Year end is here and all that goes with it. I don't know what happened yesterday. I drank my water before my walk,I drank my water after my walk and I took my 2.2 liter bottle of water to work. Then I drank the whole thing before lunch, I was so thirsty. I have no idea how much I drank during the afternoon because I uses the water fountain. I had 2 glasses of water with dinner and another 2 before bed.

YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I had an awesome ride this afternoon!!! We worked toward my show in March, and I managed to accomplish some things I had struggled with before. I can't wait! It feels so good to know that I have gained enough control over my body to be able to do this, and the abs weren't screaming afterwards like they have before!!!

Can you tell I'm psyched?

Lynda, Great start for your year.

PM, you think things are crazy there, try Southern Arizona. A lot like when the diamondbacks went to the world series. It is INSANE here!

Tomorrow is Super Bowl Sunday! Will watch the game on TV, but this are has been crazy all week. Parties everywhere & the fans are all enjoying being out of the ice & snow. Suppose to about 63 degrees at game time, low of 52, but wind chill makes it feel closer to the the 30's. emoticon emoticon

My NYG's were to be down this year. I have a hard time with specific numbers but I want to be down every month and not be dissappointed with a half a pound. If that's the way it is. In January I'm down 3 pounds and I'm very happy about it. I'm eating very healthy food and feeling better. I'm in the habit of exercise again. All in all it's been a great kick-off to a New Year! emoticon

I am just getting over a nasty head cold that knocked me out for a week. Haven't had a cold in years, but this one really got to me. Funny thing I had joined a fitness gym, gone to work out 3 days in a row and then got sick, so couldn't got all week. I am wondering if they would think I was a "germiphobic" if I brought some Clorox wipes to clean off the handles on the machines before I use them...

Ids, I hope you get out to see the sculptures. They sound neat.

I have discovered the possible cause of my problem with my workouts, it's a misunderstanding about one of my meds. We'll see how things go in the next couple days since we've corrected the problem.

I have a lesson this afternoon, and it's supposed to be in the 70's today. That'll be great.

I didn't sleep much last night. My persian went into season yesterday, and she's not scheduled to be spayed until Tuesday. Oh, well. That's the price of procrasination.

Have a good day, y'all!

Good Morning all.....
Well it is still cold here. Our Winter Carnival is in full swing. I am going to try to get out tomorrow to take some pic of the sculpture that have been done. Then I can put them on my site.

I will be praying for all that are sick and to get healing in the body.

God Bless

It's already warmer today than yesterday. I'm not feeling well, I have an icky stomach and coughing, but I think it's only a minor bug. I missed my workout this morning, but hope I won't miss tomorrow.

I'm busy cutting out a quilt this morning for my granddaughter. I'll have about 928 pieces to sew plus borders, etc. Love to sew as it means I don't even think about food. The weather started out at 45 at 6 AM but reaching 72 today. Have a great day!

Had a great day today. The sun was shining, and I got to ride again. After working in the arena, I went on a trail ride with Judy on her young horse. We did hill work, and I actually managed to sit the really going trot out there! Victory!!

Ida, I hope you recover from that virus soon. That has to be a real bummer with the lung damage on top.

I have issued a new challenge for February. We can do it!!! It's in the challenge threads.

Don't forget that Sunday morning we change to a new thread!

Hi Everyone,

I'm catching up on your news. I wish I could write individual letters to all who are sick, but I'm short on time right now. I hope I'll be able to get to know everyone better soon.

I was glad to hear Jan's positive comment about the no child left behind act from a student's perspective. Sometimes I'm too quick to give an opinion. I think their are usually two sides to every story.

I'm trying to get back to my good habits of writing down my foods. I'm going to stick to this program which makes good sense.

TGIF everyone and happy weekend after that.

Ida, you certainly are an inspiration for those around you. A positive attitude is a must! We all have down days but with a positive attitude and by the grace of God we can pick ourselves up. When folks ask my DH how he's doing he always tells them he doing fine as he woke up on the right side of the grass. Every day is so special as we continue our lives.

Went to the Dr yesterday and found out I have a Virel cold that is going around. She had Ex rays done of ny lungs and found damage to the right side one where I was having the radiation done.

Feeling a little better today. The Dr said that the lung is burnt from the radiation, not sure what can be done. Life goes on and mine will also.

Everyone always remember to keep a Positive attitude as there is someone out there that is in worse shape then you, I just thank God for each and every day he gives me. If I can help anyone to get through a problem I will with out question.

Kipster, congrats on your loss for your first 2 weeks. Realize that the recommended loss is an average of 1-2 pounds per week, so it may slow down a bit for you. But you are doing great so far!

It's cold here again this morning. It is 9:00 and only 38. Yes, I know some of you are a lot colder than that, but I am a hothouse flower, and its cold. I hope it warms up some more and then I can go ride. I also need to go into the shop today to do some computer work.

Have a great day!

Hello,

I just completed week two of being a spark person. At the end of the 2nd week I am seven pounds lighter. Of course I wanted more, but I am happy so far with the results. I have stayed with in my calory range to date and I am walking at least a mile a day. Couple of those walks were mighty cold. I walk two miles today. It was a little warmer (30 degrees) This is the longest I have maintain an exercise program. I think as long as I see results I will be able to maintain.

It was a productive rest day yesterday. Got the quilt top done for the model of the class I'm teaching next month, and I like it. I have to go out to buy fabric for the back today.

I have a lesson on Falcao in an hour, so I'm about to head out the door. It's cold here (for us, anyway), 39 at 9:00 in the morning, which means I'll get to wear one of my sweaters this morning.

My kitten is sitting on the arm of my chair staring at the covey of fat little quail taht are cruising my front yard. They look so neat all puffed up. I know Ms. Lucy would love to go outside to try to catch one, but she is so small, I'm afriad the hawks might mistake her for a rabbit.

Well, have a good day today. I'm off to ride.

Good morning. I didn't get my walk in this morning, I didn't mind that it was 38, but the wind and rain were a differant story.

I need a couple of 1099's before I can do our taxes. The thing is I asked my DH how many of them to expect and he said he knew there was 1 more, there might be 2, he didn't think there were 3 but there might be. Ok so much for his record keeping. He got the one from BMI, I can't remember the name on the second one, but I know we need it. I don't think we made enough from Sound exchange to get a 1099 and I don't think we got anything from Sony last year.

Our AC went out yesterday. The weather man says we will need the heater not the ac for the next 5 days. Yes we were useing the AC in Jan. South Texas

I did get out and walk two miles this morning plus my strength training which I haven't done for weeks. I plan for nothing on Sundays. I like to walk every day and do strength training two days a week. Hard to keep on schedule here as someone always wants to go some place. I have to try and get my walking right after breakfast.
Our high today was 81 but a promise of a northerner is on the way with light showers. Our home temps have been below a lot. Last Saturday they warmed up to zero.

Hello everyone.
Beth, I usually try to get 10000 steps in every day. I don't usually take a day off. Maybe that would be a good idea. So far today I haven't gotten very many steps in and I'm not feeling up to par. Today may be a good day for me to take a day off.
Ida, Glad to see you are feeling a little better again today.
Pat, Good to see you here. Congrats on the weight loss.
It's 22 here today so not bad at all for NY weather.
We took our taxes to the CPA this morning but apparently we still need a couple of things that we didn't get in the mail yet.
Have a good Wednesday everyone.

Have been AWOL for awhile, so just dropping by to say Hi!

The 2 lbs that kept coming & going, seems to be gone along with 2 more. Won't move my weight loss until it has been gone at least 2 weeks.

We got back to the mid 70's, which feels great, but the constantly changing (barometric pressure sure effect my breathing). Not complaining, just so grateful, able to do more & more every week.

You guys stay warm and well.

It was 68 when I went for my morning walk. The weather man says 38 at walking time tomorrow. That's cold enough for me.

I never stop walking. I do 4 to 6 miles a day. weather permitting. I have to take a day a week off from everything else, or my body just stops. I discovered it can't be Sunday. I have the toddlers at church and will be picking up children for an hour. I tell people I do my arm weights on Sundays.

Brrrrr, way too cold for me. I'll stay here, thanks!

I hope you stay warm tonight and tomorrow. Me, I'll just stay home and sulk.

You know it's funny. a few years ago, I would have said, Great! No exercise, I can do whatever I want. Somehow the thought of not doing anything, including riding Falcao tomorrow seems strange. When did this happen?

Stay warm, y'all. I hope they're wrong about the wind and rain tomorrow.

Well it is only 9pm and it is already -7 here in McCall. I think it will be getting lower then the -9 they say for tonight.

Having trouble keeping the house at 69 right now.

Going to get my posting done and then going to bed.

Good night all.

Oooh, I've broken ribs and they are NO fun. Take it slow, and use a pillow to hug yourself if you must sneeze or cough. It helped me.

Got told today that I MUST take a day off tomorrow. I didn't realize why I was tired, unwilling to want to get out of bed, sore, etc. Talked to my trainer, and realized that it's been 8 days since I've had a day off from exercise. Just a reminder to y'all that you MUST take at least 1 day where you don't work out any of your body parts. Your body needs that day to recover from the previous weeks' micro-injuries that we accumulate when we work out.

This has been my wake up call. I have to watch someone else ride Falcao tomorrow. But on the upside, I'll get some nice quilting done!

Hello,
I haven't posted in quite a while. I missed you all! I'm recovering from a cracked rib, caused by a malfunctioning chair lift at Okemo Mt. I haven't been able to exercise in 3 weeks. I'm going to try to get back into it slowly.

Happy Birthday Wilcoco (spelling?).

Hi Team,

Since Oct 2008 I lost 25 lbs and gained 10 back.

New Years Resolution: I'm ahead of the game.
Starting at about 180 I'm off to the races and plan on loosing another 25 lbs this year. If I do that, I'll be within my healthy range, although I feel my best at 145 lb. It feels so good to feel good and know what I know. SP is the best.

Hello everyone.
Willscoco, Happy Birthday. Hope you enjoyed your day.
Ida, Glad you are feeling better. Just take it slowly.
Today I went to church this morning. DH and I went to BJ's, Walmart and the Mall this afternoon so I got quite a bit of random walking in today. I did 20 minutes on the gazelle and the bootcamp and lower body stretching videos. I did go over my calorie range today.
Have a good Monday everyone.

I can't believe I have just read that is 15-20 degrees below. At the moment in New Zealand we have 25 plus degrees celsius. It is too hot to do any exercise unless you go early in the morning which I try and do. I am going to stay motivated this year and reading the posts and adding my bit will help I am sure

NJMack, sorry to hear the fibro is acting up.
It's hard in this cold weather to keep the energy up when the cold makes us so stiff.
I have it too so I know what you are talking about.
Hang in there and keep moving.

I had a good week. Although last night I went over my daily allowance of food I'm back on track today.

My son and I went out for lunch today and I got a chicken stir fry. Well I got half way into eating and I was full. I can tell watching all week my stomach is starting to shrink already. I brought half my lunch home with me and am going to have that for dinner tonite.

Reporting my food daily has been helping alot.
I even got some exercise this week. So I feel pleased with the way things are going.
I will not get on the scale for another week so hopefully the next time I step on the scale I'll have lost some lbs.

Thanks alot for your support.

jety

Having a lot of problems with water retentions and edema at the moment. Will have readjust the scale BIG TIME! Have been on a energy and activity buzz like I haven't been on in 6 years and LOVING it! I've been battling fibro and all the really bad effects of it for the last 6 years along with moderate to suffer depression. The lsat week I have turned my son's room into a craft room! Took longer than I thought as I had more yarn than I thought! Knew I had tons more fabric than I need, but didn't remember all the places I've squirreled away the yarn!
I've been trying not to sit at the computer too much, except to do my online classwork. This seems to helping me keep my energy and activity levels up.

I thought sharing thoughts in this way was a little hokie at first. But reading the feed back through out the day helps me stay focused on my goals. I survived 3 parties this week and even walked after I got home from one last night to get my 10,000 steps in for the day. You are all an inspiration to me. I leave in the morning for a girl trip to a hopefully warmer climate for a few days. Unfortunately my computer stays home. Don't know if one will be available to me at the B & B we'll be at or not. So please send positive thoughts my way. We will be biking and kayaking so I'll not be a slug for 5 days. It's the eating thing that's a challenge on the road. Have a great week!:)Leslie

Good morning. I've told people for years the best time to walk is when the owls are saying good night and the roosters are saying good morning. I had a screech owls that greeted me every morning. Then a few years ago they tore down the old house he lived in and I haven't had an owl. Well 2 days in a row a bard owl has greeted me. I haven't seen it, but hear its hoots. Yes I can tell the kind of owl by the sound. This morning he was very talkative.

Diana, The hard part was learning all the places they hid meat and all the different things it can be called. I spent a year with "maybe I can eat..." There is a lot of protein out there that isn't meat. We eat a lot of beans and lentils because they are the easiest to get. I've had digestive problems most of my live, but was 28 when they got bad enough that they put me in the hospital and found the reason. I think that is one of the reasons I got so big. I had gained a little weight after my son was born, but wasn't really big.

When I had to quit eating meat, most people that didn't eat meat, didn't eat meat for animal rights reasons and didn't pay much attention to the health part of it. Veggies only take about 20 minutes to digest, cards take 2 hours and protein takes up to 4 hours. I ate a lot of patatos and all the gooey stuff you put on them. It was either that or I was always hungry and hitting the snack machine. Learning how to eat and what my body needed helped me more then anything. It took a while for me to just find the info for vegetarians. The Dr thinks I should be vegan and I working towards that, but am having trouble giving up egg whites. I have been able to eat them, just not the yoke.

Tomorrow I will be 66! I can hardly believe it.

1. Spend quality time with my mom who has moved in while undergoing lung cancer treatment.
2. Learn about myself through living with her again.
3. Focus on one or two areas of my life so that I feel accomplishment and satisfaction.
4. Retire, and research where I would like to live.

Hello everyone.
Ida, Hope you feel better. Someone posted that if you are coughing a lot to put that Vicks on the bottom of your feet with a pair of socks and you won't cough all night long. Just a suggestion in case you have a cough.
Armymom, I use a pedometer and have 10000 steps as my goal now. Glad to see you are motivated to walk.
Beth, You do have a lot on your plate with the riding, exercising and the quilting. Don't know how you fit everything in.
Jo-Ann, Hope you enjoyed your surprise party. Keep up the walking. It's good for you. Yes, it is great to have freedom of choice.
Jan, You are an inspiration. I admire what you are doing in honor of/memory of your friends with different types of cancer. My Mom and Daughter both had breast cancer. Mom passed away at 82 years old but our Daughter is a 6 year survivor now. We usually do the Relay for Life here every year.
Paula, Way to go with the tracking you have done. Keep up the good work. Hope your back gets feeling better as you strengthen it.
MaryAlice, It must be hard not to be able to eat any meat. It must be hard to get enough protein. Hope you are feeling better.
Have a good Sunday everyone.

Barb, Way to go with keeping track of the food.

Paula,

You can track in a small notebook and then enter it on the computer later. Can you do some ab and back strengthening exercises? Take care of your back.

Be patient with yourself as far as your healing, and push yourself where you can.

Had a great ride this morning, then unloaded hay into the barn. Great day for me, and the weather was glorious! Even some rare fog this morning!

Sorry I have been AWOL. I wasn't doing to good for awhile. DH wanted to try a new restaurant. I can't eat meat. Meat causes my digestion system to close down. Well we went to order. I saw a shortage of vegetables and the ones I did see were fried. I asked the waitress if the green beans had bacon in them. She was very proud they did. I told her I couldn't have meat and asked her what I could eat. She said I could have pinto beans and rice and a dinner salad, so that is what I ordered. The salad was a very small bowl of lettuce with a thin slice of tomato on top. After I took about 3 bites if the beans I found the bacon.

When I got home I down a bottle of prune juice, more water then I care to think about, and a 3 mile walk. I got things working again, but haven't felt myself.

Paula - are you working with a PT for your back? Would some back strengthening help? The other thing which may be helpful for you - if you are working with a PT would be to strengthen your core so you get the stress off your back.

Just a suggestion.

Hi Everyone,
I'm having a hard time getting started. I track every couple of days. I'm just not getting into it this time, I think because my back hurts alot sitting at the computer and our computer is old and slow, like me. I am disabled with my back and have to lay down often. I wish that I had a desktop, that might help.

Thanks Barb. Recently, I had a conversation with a friend of mine, and we talked about - we are really our own biggest obstacle.

I think it is so important we set goals. Now I will admit, I have pretty big goals, and I did not intend to sound intimidating. I had a friend who went from the couch to a 5k. I have a friend who went from barely running to a half marathon. We have folks within Team in Training who will go from inexperienced to either walk or run a half or a full marathon.

Clearly these people are driven by family members with cancer, blood cancers in particular. However, you can be driven by what you want to be driven by. Your own health could be a motivator (that was actually how I got started - with my three digit diastolic blood pressure).

I am not here to tell all that they should train for endurance events. I want to share with you - set a reasonable goal for YOU and work towards it - and it doesn't matter if you want to walk 30 min - four, five, or six days a week - or it is train for a marathon.

The important thing is we get up and get going. Michael Roizen, the MD who is on Oprah and who knows where - advocate to walk for 30 min/day ... the goal is to get up and move. There are so many little things we can do and make ourselves healthier....

Wow! Jan, that's such an inspiration! My goal is to be fitter at 65 than I was at 55! I slid for 5+ years. now time for the climb back. I am so glad to see it's possible. Bless you! (And of course your niece)

If it wasn't for 'no child left behind', my niece would not be in college today!

When she reached 16, she got the idea it would be more fun to bag groceries than to go to school. She dropped out of high school. However, after a year - bagging groceries was no fun,and she signed up in one of the 'no child left behind programs'. About three months later - she was diagnosed with leukemia - but because of the flexibility of the program, she graduated last summer, and was able to go to college. She have a tough time while in school, because of her illness, but as her uncle I am proud to say that she received two scholarships and three awards when she graduated.

In April she will have completed her three years of chemotherapy, and she will be ready to move on with her life.

Last may I ran the Cleveland Marathon for Team in Training raising money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma soceity's team in training program www.teamintraining.org and it was great to have Amanda standing at the finish line, after she had spent almost two months in the hospital because of pancreatitis (caused by one of the chemotherapy drugs). I am running the Cleveland marathon and riding my bike around lake Tahoe for Team in Training - and in celebration of Amanda being done with her chemo.

My other goals for the year - may include a 50k run, a couple of half marathons, and a half iron man.

This is a message board for 50+ people. I want to let you know, I ran my first half marathon at the age of 51 and my first full marathon at the age of 54. I did my first olympic triathlon at the age of 54. Where there is a will there is a way.

Fun to keep track of steps with the pedometer. surprising how it adds up. I try to walk 2 miles a day and then let the rest of the steps add themselves. Usually gets to 5 miles on most days.
My DH had a big surprise party for me yesterday so am resting today. About 50 of our Winter Texans showed up. They become our winter family!

Have a great sabbath day in the church of your choice. Isn't it wonderful that we have the freedom of choice!

Hi, Y'all!

I was gone yesterday because I was working out, then because it was still raining (well, sprinkled enough it was uncomfortable to ride) all day, I went into my studio and got a lot of block building done. I hope to finish this quilt by Thursday as it is one I'm teaching next month.

I workedout, but it wasn't as good as I normally do. For some reason during one of the intervals I got an icky stomach even though I was sipping water. We backed off for the last 15 minutes. Not sure what happened, but today I still feel a bit disconnected. I'm supposed to have a riding lesson this morning, so I'm hoping that I can get that workout done.

Ida, I sure hope you get to feeling better. You've not had a good year so far. Hang in there.

Y'all are doing great with the motivation. I need to borrow a bit of it myself.

have a good Saturday!

Good morning! One of my goals for 2009 was to actually stick to the program (especially longer than one meal-length). Hooray! I have made it through my first work week and stayed on track! I almost feel like that Little Engine Who Could! I can do it! Thanks,

I am excited about tracking my steps, I just got a meter to be able to track the steps. I have to lose 47lbs to reach my goal weight. I am hoping to have a great Saturday with meeting my goal with exercise and eating all the right foods today. I am glad to see that it can be done. Thanks for submitting all your emails so I can see people can do it. That means I can also do it too. Thanks again

Hello everyone.
Today I ate within my calorie range. Sodium was higher than it should be. I stayed close to the right ratios in fat, protein and carbs.
I also got 12020 steps in for the day with vacuuming and random walking.
Tonight was date night so DH and I went out for dinner. I had a fish fry and the restaurant will give me greens instead of potatoes for a side and it comes with a salad bar.
Hope everyone has a great Saturday.

Kipster, staying motivated is a mind game. I stopped weighing, because it was too depressing. Measurement is also fickle. Just figuring that as long as the food stays within the chart, the exercise stays within the range, it will all be better, and a year from now, I will indeed fit into the jeans without lying on my back and using a shoe horn... I can feel muscles when I laugh, that weren't there before, I can feel muscles in my legs that didn't used to be there. There is even a possibility of a hip bone in there. It's not a diet, it's not "the Biggest Loser". This is life, and little changes along the way are going to make it better.
Cheating? we all cheat and fool ourselves in different ways. But, we learn, and given time, we realize where we are fooling ourselves. It is a learning journey. For me, I had to stop counting wine as part of my 8 glasses of water and many other things I can't own up to publicly. Give it time, forgive yourself. Miracles do not often happen. Focus on one thing you know in your heart is working against you. Give it time, weeks even, maybe months, then pick another. I think of the John Denver song, Inch by inch, row by row, I'm going to make this garden grow. So be kind to yourself, and revel in the changes, and the journey.

Here comes the weekend.

Hmmm do I work out harder on the weekend or cut myself some slack.

Cutting myself slack is how I got in this shape. So I guess I better walk and then walk some more.

I always have trouble staying motivated, does anyone have suggestions on how to keep the motivation up for the long haul?

I really enjoy this spark page group because y'all are around my age and battling the same stuff.

Feel yucky to put it nicely, as of yesterday and went to CVS for relief stuff. Came home from the Summerville Medical Center, in S.C. where I volunteer feeling like I died and came back again. I guess this is the price we pay for the changing temperatures down here.

Love y'all,

I haven't heard from anyone that does like No Child Left Behind. Mom was telling me about a course she had to take to give the test. She said the professor told the class that 10% would pass the test no matter what the teacher did. 10% would fail the test despite the teachers best efforts, 10% needed a little guidance, 10% would pass if you pushed hard enough and the other 60% needed the teacher. That meant 80% were going to pass the test. Then he said there was a % that would pass and no one could figure out how. He showed them, he gave them the answer page. The page that just has the little bubbles that you darken and told them to fill it out without the questions, just darken some bubbles. Then he graded the papers. 4% of the class passed the test.

Hello Friends,

I'm interested in bootcamp and found this link here:
http://www.sparkpeople.com/myspark/searc
h_results.asp
I think I'll need one of those big balls, right? I'm going to Walmart and get one today.

My dh and dd left on Saturday for the inauguration and a visit with my brother and his kids. The visit was complicated because the pipes at my bro's house froze, so we ended up at my niece's in Arlington.

Somehow everything came together and we managed to make it inside the mall with a million other folk. We walked our legs off. DD needed one more layer of clothing for her legs but other wise was good. We looked like 3 snowbunnies, LOL.

DD is 35 and met some friends. The four of them went to the Southern Ball and got to see the Obamas and Bidens dance. They were thrilled!

We are a family of teachers. Daughter is now a counselor, but spent one year teaching 24 kindergarteners without an aide or bathroom in the room. She spent all her time doing dibbles testing and was totally stressed out by the end of her year. Her kids scored well, but why test 5 year olds every week? We are not fans of NCLB.

I'm optimistic for our country coming together. We are being tested but we can work together for a common goal that is just.

Speaking of goals, I'm back here and will do my best to get healthy. I got my exercise in last week, but couldn't control what or when I ate.

Beth- good luck with your knee. I carry a ace bandage thingee for when my knee decides to act up. I also have one for my ankle.

Everyone else here, I enjoy reading your letters. Let's take it one step at a time together and move towards our goals.

Hi everyone.... I am back home. Hopefully for a while. I was not a happy camper as they did not tell me that I would be in so much pain I wanted to die. I am feeling much better today. I need to get a hold of the urologist sometime today as he wants to do surgery in Feb to remove the kidney stones and the stint. Just like I want more surgery. I want to try to get on the treadmill today for a little while to see how I feel.

Have a good day

Good morning. Several years ago I read something about weight not being the only measure of how your health is changing. One is your waist, You on a diet likes this one. A woman's waist should be 34 inches or less. Mine was 38. A woman's hip to waist ratio should be 75%. Mine was 84%. The scale hasn't moved, but my pants aren't fitting right. So I decided to measure myself again to see if the new DVD was doing anything. My waist is 34, right on the edge, but healthy. My hips are 44, giving me a ratio of 77. A little high, but much better. I don't think my hip measurement has changed and that is why the ratio is so much better. I makes me feel better about the scale not moving.

I wear a pedometer. I wasn't getting my 10,000 steps a day so I started walking the boys. Not a brisk walk, you can't do that with 2 year old boys, just walking. Looking at bugs, smelling the flowers, feeding the pony. Anyway it got my my steps, the boys mothers loved having them out of the house and the boys are 11 and still walking, or should I say running. They not only walk with me, but are on cross country, soccer and baseball.

Hi EV1
I've been so out of it. I went to Holiday Dinner Jan 20th. It was at a Chinese Buffet...I knew as I tasted this one item...OH NO!!!...that I had something that wasn't good. Even though I didn't eat anymore, it was just enough to make me very sick the next day. So my food (or lack of) has been off, there was no exercise and no water (that I can recall).
Finally feeling more like myself today and hope to get back into the routine. Still not eating my salads, but more soups at this time.

Hi everyone.
I have been trying for 10000 steps daily and most days I get more than that. I wear a pedometer and joined america on the move. AOM converts different activities into steps so I can figure how many steps I do in a day.
Yesterday I colored my hair and today I got it cut so I look presentable again.
I didn't get to the gym today but I did get on the gazelle for 40 minutes.
Have a good Friday everyone.

I have been on and off since arriving in Texas December 7th. I finally feel safe again on my computer. Last week after getting my security up to date and going to AT&T for service while in Texas I thought I was all set and then I kept getting security messages which I did not understand as my security said all was OK. Finally made another trip to Best Buy and he said to just close the messages and continue on. He must have fixed something to stop the messages as all seems fine now. I sure miss my family when I have doubts about what's happening on my computer but I have learned a bit this month.

I'm looking forward to joining in once again as I have missed my Spark friends. I need you all for motivation to lose this weight.

Yesterday, the only exercise I got was stress. Today it's rainy, so riding is out. We need the rain, so I won't complain too much.

Have a good THursday! The weekend is coming. Good going, MaryAlice!

I haven't lost weight in some time. I think one of the reasons is that since I broke my ankle there is so much I can't do. I have trouble finding things I can. I saw a DVD from Biggest Loser. Yoga for Weight Loss. I knew Bob was big into yoga and I didn't think it would put too much pressure on my ankle so I got it and tried it last night. It kicked my you know what for 35 minuets. I could do all the poses, it was changing from one to the other I had trouble with. 1/2 way though my legs were burning, my arms were tired and I was sweaty. By the end I was glad Bob said we were to lay on our backs, arms by our side, palms up, close our eyes and relax. The instructions are to do this 4 or 5 times a week for 2 weeks and go to the next level. I want to make it though this level.
