It was a very wild weather day. A tornado landed at the Frederickson Boeing Plant just outside of Tacoma, about 80 miles from here. It picked up a car and moved it a little ways and sucked two way radios off a workers side and also took his hard hat. It picked up a wooden fence and threw it against a house. There has been wind, rain and snow today in some areas. This is very unusual weather for this time of year.

Sam took Steve to the doctor this afternoon and he had taken a Perkaset (pain meds) before they left so he was higher than a kite and couldn't work the crutches. He may have to have surgery. I made a huge pot of soup so will take him some in an hour or so. Sam told him to expect me.

Tammy,

You continue to be a good mommie to the kittens. You will miss them when they leave. How long does the ringworm medicine take to get rid of the ringworms?

Have a good rest of the day everyone.

Bonnie,

Before I go to bed I fill my carafe with very hot water so when I make it in the morning the coffee stays hot at least until about 5 PM.

You are doing so well with your therapy. Congrats reaching your range goal and then some. I hope you get approved for the extra therapy.

Thanks for the good thoughts, and thanks for changing the thread. I think if we just go to the team page, we can find the new thread, is that correct?

BRENDA

Hope the Hospital has been able to help your friend with his pain. Boy, you are right, good time to stay inside.

I also have a coffee maker with a carafe. I love it. I sometimes fill it with very hot water and let it sit for awhile, and then it stays hot even longer. I will have to remember to make coffee the night before if I am afraid I will not have power. Great idea.

Had a good day of therapy today. Worked really hard. Aaron has me up to 7 minutes on the treadmill. At the end of the session, when he takes my Range of Motion measurement, I had pulled back as far as I thought I could. He said "Give me one more", I said, "I can't", He said "you will be very happy if you do", SO I DID! my measurement was 111 degrees. If you remember, his goal for me was 110. Guess I have learned a lesson about saying "I can't"

I am very happy about that. I am also very sore! That's ok. I am going to go to the pool again tomorrow. I think that was helpful also. He told me that when I came in today he could see how I had improved just by the way I was walking.

He is going to try to get me 3 more sessions from my insurance company for next week, that is the week before I have my right knee surgery. He and I both think it is a good idea that I have therapy that week. If nothing else, he can decide if he thinks I should not have the surgery done the next week. We will see!

Bless you all, and have a great week.

Brenda, how is Steve? Whose b-day are you celebrating this month?

The rain is heavy right now---I may not go to the pool this Tuesday morning. If not, I'll do a Richard Simmons tape.

It sounds like you are getting some of Michele's weather, rain and high winds from the typhoons. A good day to stay inside.

I hope your new neighbor is OK.

I have cut the babies back to 3 bottles a day. They don't like it and don't want to let go of the bottle when it is empty. I have to hold on to their paws and pull the bottle away quick before they get their paws loose. But they are eating the kitten food and drinking out of the water bowl so it is time.

Be well my friends. emoticon

Yesterday was wild with gale force winds with the tree branches whipping every which way. The rain came down in barrels and rivers are overflowing their banks so there is lots of standing water on many of the roads. Not safe to be on the roads. I made a pot of coffee last night just in case we lost power. It brews into a thermos carafe and it is still hot this morning.

Our new neighbor, Steve, fell in his apartment around 8 last night and broke his leg. He was in a lot of pain when they took him out. Poor guy. Mary and I had gone downstairs to move the BBQ closer to the building and check any lose patio furniture when the EMT's came.

Elinor has been out of her apartment more as she is feeling stronger. We have all told her to keep walking and her legs will get stronger. Her daughter's have been helping her with meals and groceries and laundry. That's the one thing I miss here is having our own washer's and dryers in our apartment but other than that this is a good place to be.

Have a good day everyone. I plan to stay in and watch the storm. Managers may not get here for our meeting and birthday party today. Traffic and freeways are a mess.

Monday Overate on 4 slices of bread with jam I was mad at DD's attitude, which the logical Me knows I can'T change. I am up 4 lbs. didn'T realize I could do that much damage with just 4 slices of bread! Now to fix it. And take care of me.

Glad you enjoyed the show. Sounds really fun.

You are welcome for me writing my thoughts. I realized a long time ago, and have forgotten that if I write these things on a thread, and can get input back from others, I find it does help me as well as sometimes it helps others.

Thanks for indulging me all.

Thanks also for the supportive words. I guess those old mountains I make do need to come down to size. LOL

I'm about to go walking with friend Sara. Didn't get one in yesterday after all. It's been a full weekend but with alone time, too. Darshan has gone to his cousins house today and so I won't see him until after work tomorrow.

The play I saw is the adaptation of the Groucho Marks movie of Animal Crackers. I don't know if I had answered the question yet or not. It was quite professional and quite true to form representing all of the characters in that movie. I think it wants to go to Broadway but we'll see.

BONNIE,
Thank you for writing out your thought process so well. It really reminds me of my own process. Quite a lot of what you wrote is what I do, too.

Good Morning Sparklers! The last few days have been just magnificent --- drier air and cooler mornings and evenings.

I went to what was supposed to be a farmers market yesterday -- only one person there with veggies, no fruit and no romaine. The rest was arts and crafts -- boo, hiss. I do like an arts and crafts show, but not at what is supposed to be a farmers market!

Bonnie, so glad you have turned your mountain into a mole hill. It is much easier to step over and move on. Blessings.

Dale, glad all is working out in your world. So much easier to think clearly when our minds aren't filled with the clutter of unfinished business.

I love it when I have a day that flows. They don't happen all the time, but are truly amazing when they occur. Life is trying to teach me patience. I am getting better at it, but have a long way to go.

Michele, Brenda, Sunny and Tammy enjoy the rest of your weekend.

I am so glad that things are working out to be better with your new tenant. What great news.

Sounds great to be able to ride the bike around a lake. You must have lots of lakes where you live. How wonderful

I agree that finding a maintenance team is a good idea. Just don't leave us! I too appreciated your saying.

I suspect that as you are relaxing a bit more about your life choices and stresses, your muscles will loosen up again. I truly think none of us realize at the time just how much being stressed affects so many other parts of our body I am sure the walking will help as well.

SUNNY

Sounds like things are going really well. Hope the antibiotics do the trick for your hubby.

Good for you.

DALE and SUNNY

please let me know about your play and musical and if you enjoyed them. I am missing a lot of stuff around here for this time of year everyone's season begins anew. That's ok, it is just part of the process.

DALE

I just wrote a post on my other thread that reminded me of how I lost 70 pounds in the first place, and kept it off for a couple of years before having so much pain and disability with my back before the surgery.

I was getting that back slowly before the old knees gave out and I backslid again.

It kind of begins with the serenity prayer. God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.

Using that, and working to recognize and debunk the terrible thoughts that I had taken in over my lifetime that so negatively affected everything I did, actually put me into a position to have so much more confidence in my abilities, to NOT always expect myself to be extraordinary, and to understand that we all make mistakes, it is natural, and to forgive myself and go on from there. Good old One Day at a Time, was also instrumental in my attitude.

I had lost sight of all of that over the past couple of years, and had forgotten how powerful it was in my daily life. Constant pain, and disability have the power to really distract your thoughts.

Even with this therapy, I need to use these thoughts. It is not my therapist who caused me to do too much, I was doing that at home, constantly striving to do more and more because that is just what I do.

The Doctor did tell me that I would not really be totally healed from the surgery for about 1 year. It is me who thought it all had to be done in two months.

It has been a long and difficult 3 years. But, I am seeing light at the end of the tunnel. I need to slow down so that I can see the actual light, and not the train coming at me!

From Nov 26, 2007 through about Dec of 2010, I was on a pretty good path. I would slip up, and have issues of course but was able to keep my attitude and my weight at about 263, or thereabouts.

Since the knee surgery, I am down to about 284, which is at least 12 pounds or maybe a bit more than I was before the knee surgery.

That means 8 more pounds will get me back to where I was after the back surgery before the knee issues.

It means that I am 21 pounds up from my lowest weight. It also means I have kept off 49 pounds.

I need to remind myself that in my past life, before Nov 26 2007, I would have gained back ALL of the weight I had lost, and then more. I am afraid that I would have been in a wheelchair for the rest of my life.

Even without keeping my attitude in the right place, just coming here through all of that trauma and pain, helped me to not gain it all back. I need to remember that.

Instead of taking in and owning all that I have "failed" at, I need to recognize all that I have succeeded at through a very difficult.

I guess this is kind of my day of epiphany. I needed this.

Thanks to you all for keeping me going through all of that stuff and for letting me know that no matter what the future may bring you will still be here. I am truly blessed.

BRENDA

Glad you were able to get your supplies in. Much better than having to make do or worry about going out in the bad weather.

MICHELE

I am praying that both you and Brenda see a little sunshine this winter. Actually I am praying that we all do! It does make a difference. We have been having some lovely days.

TAMMY

You are doing so well with your babies. Sounds as though more and better sleep is in your future! YAY!

JAROL

Good going. Glad you have good support from your Doctor.

Wishing you all a lovely weekend. God Bless

SUNNY,
GOOD GOING on watching what you're taking in with calories and putting out to burn them.
What musical will you see tomorrow?

BONNIE,
Recovery is a very slow process when it's bone areas. You are going to have to realistically allow yourself a full year to be totally right so please don't get discouraged so soon. Pace this stuff out for a longer haul. The doctors always say it will take less time than it does, and I'm not sure why they have such a different sense of the reality a patient experiences.

May I suggest you start reading the Ekhart Tolle books? The Power of Now really, really helped me deal with my hip replacement recoveries. I highly recommend you tune in and begin to read it, nice and slowly!

Scott and I split our UNOs dinners last night so we each had half a steak and half a piece of salmon. I hadn't had steak in years and loved the first bite but then it was over cooked (chew chew chew). I ordered medium rare, and Scott got the bigger and more tender portion. Just as well.

That quilt Mom washed for Darshan's room got decimated! It must have been very cheap to begin with. No stitched squares that each contain the filler. So now either Darshan or I have to buy a decent one. I told him to look into it and maybe take it with him wherever he goes next, but he would possibly leave the state and not want to ship such a thing. We'll work it out. He's way easy to relate to compared to Sharon.

Didn't get my morning walk in yet there's no time later. Mary and Nate will meet Mom and I after our Animal Crackers play finishes, so that's great. Yes, they made a play from the Groucho Marks movie. Hope it's really fun and not nose wrinkling humor. We're snobs that way. No cornball. From what I remember, he had a very sharp wit so I'm hopeful.

I'm pretty sure I'll be transferring my unused bike over to Scott's basement. He used to ride so it will give us the opportunity to do so together, and me altogether! ha At the very least we will ride around Lake Elkhorn, which his back yard opens up to. I don't go walking over there because it's fairly flat and offers no improvement to the two lake parks by my house.
Since Scott won't go on any walks with me (it hurts him he says, and sees no point in walking just to walk, but parks far from stores in order to...?) Anyway, it will be great to get it out of my office and used in the future.

Aches and pains (sore muscles I keep stretching) have increased considerably in the last month or so. I have to rotate my neck and stretch it from side to side often! And the same with my torso. What's up with that stuff. I'm only turning 65.

I know that my ideal body weight is just a few pounds lower than where I am holding, but that this seems to be just right for maintenance. If I'd join ANNE and do my strength training I'd be way ahead of where I am now. That aversion will have to be busted. Soon.

Happy Saturday,
Dale

I have been watching my fat calories and making sure I have snacks around that are fiber and protein. No wine with dinner either!!!! So my weight was down to 155 this morning. I am sure it is also the increased walking trying to keep at 4 or 5 miles a day. Throw in a few Spark videos and the scale was my friend.

Part of the reason for no wine is that my DH is on antibiotics and cannot have any alcohol and I hate to drink alone. We have a quiet weekend planned except for going to see a musical in Los Angeles on Sunday afternoon.

I have a check up in two weeks and I am hoping that the cholesterol number is back in the normal range. So I plan to be extra good until then.

up a half pound is all I need to be more careful today - I know it's that late bowl of cereal I had because that is usually the swelling conclusion (ha!) - well, maybe it was also the 3 very large pieces of toast throughout the day...

Thank goodness my sleep was good and long enough last night, which is what I had closed the window before getting into bed was to encourage. That traffic does wake me up now that school and work folks are into the swing of things.

I walked twice yesterday, one in the morning by myself and another at 6:30pm with Sara. And now I walked again this morning.

I'm thinking that I ought to look into a maintenance team now that I have several months at goal weight. It makes sense to do so. And I'm also thinking hard about how to deal with my weekend trip to the Catskills, whether to just ride up with Scott and so he can go off and have his own weekend somewhere, or go by myself and perhaps spend an extra night up there so I don't risk driving home during dusk and night hours. Sigh. Undecided. There are other variables to each choice as well.

Weekend, here we come! Tomorrow Mom and I go to our first play of this season in Baltimore. I'm hoping we can meet up with my son and Mary for a quick dinner in that neighborhood afterward.

Tammy,

You are doing a great job teaching the kittens and letting nature take it's course. It's good to hear you finally got a whole night's sleep.

Michele,

I don't complain about the weather, I just listen to the weather reports and plan my shopping trips accordingly. If I waited until it quit raining or cooled down or whatever, I would never leave my apartment most of the time. Sam and I went to the meat market yesterday and I stocked up on chicken breasts, a pork roast, chuck roast and 5# of ground beef so I am set for the winter. The butcher cut the roasts in smaller chunks and wrapped each one for me. They don't inject the meats with salt water to extend the shelf life like the chain stores do.

There's a huge rain/wind storm moving in today and we may get up to 3 inches of rain in some areas today, much stronger tomorrow and it is expected to hang around the next few days. I just hope the power stays on.

I will keep yo posted as I can.

Have a good day everyone.

Sunny, Japan, being an island, has a lot of rain. There are usually a lot of typhoons (hurricanes) in Sept. Japanese people in general, tend to "gaman" which means just put up with whatever life throws their way. They tend not to comlain & just get on with life. It was this way with the earthquake 2 years ago. If I let the weather predict what I was going to do, I would never leave my house!

Brenda your weather sounds similar to what my DD is saying about her weather in BOise right now. I love that kind of weather! My hometown of Michigan is much like that. I miss it!

Michelle I am going to start watching your weather more, you live in an area I am not familiar with. It sounds like it is difficult to get outside most all of the time? I really admire you for getting out there.

Dale I agree with Michelle you are filled with thoughts to ponder.

Yesterday I went out to do some shopping and bought a pair of pants 1 size smaller than the ones I had on. Although I hate to get out and do the exercise it is really paying off. Now I just need to keep up my commitment.

Everyone have a great day

emoticon I didn't have to get up at 3:00am this morning!!! I gave the babies some soft food before bed and I didn't set an alarm. They didn't wake me up till 6:30 this morning. emoticon When I had them at the vet I asked him if I should just stop cleaning the kittens to encourage them to use the litter box and he said "yes". So I stopped and all 3 used the box. Of course...the gray one...had to walk through it and make a mess but the other 2 were clean. emoticon

Now I am working on getting them to eat hard food. They have this food by Royal Canin that is teeny-tiny baby bites, little 1/4 inch squares that I have been softening for them. Today I put a bowl in the box with them and instead of giving them a bottle every 3 hours I have been making them wait 4 hours. They all have been in the bowl but I don't know how much they got in them b/c they are still trying to suck on it. I will soften it before bed so I know they got enough to get through the night. In a couple of days I will increase the time between bottles a little more and they should figure it out. They will be 6 weeks old on Mon. so they should be eating the crunchy food.

I hope everyone has a great day.

Be well my friends. emoticon

emoticon Jarol, It is nice to meet you. Post often so we can get to know you. In the meantime, you are doing great following doctors orders.

It is 43 degrees this morning, Fall is really here. I, too, love this time of year with all the leaves changing and falling and blowing around, especially now that I don't have to rake them up anymore.. However, I do miss doing some of the yard work since moving into apartments. I may have to turn on my little heater or put on a sweater. This afternoon it will be a high of 60 and clear skies. Yesterday we had 12 hours of daylight and 12 hours of dark, very unusual.

Today I need to go grocery shopping and stock up just in case the union workers go on strike over wages and benefits. I don't like crossing picket lines. They are not actually striking in our area but if the others do, our area will join them in sympathy. Yesterday I was rumaging through my freezer and put a half gallon of slow churned ice cream on the counter. Hours later I saw it still sitting there in a puddle of moisture. DUH. I put it back in the freezer but I am sure is it wasted. But think of all the calories I didn't eat. emoticon

Bonnie, S L O W down and be like the emoticon . I think you forgot that slow and steady wins the race. We have to remember that we are not as young as we think we are. emoticon You need to get your knee working right so you can have the next surgery.

Sunny,
I agree that the lighting is as good as the air quality in autumn. A fleeting 5 weeks worth before the dark months come into full play...

Michelle,
Thanks for the compliment. I have fun writing that stuff. And yes, I walked yesterday.

Early morning traffic sounds are ruining the great air I get when sleeping with an open bedroom window. It didn't bother me the first week, that I can remember, but today? Yuck. So I'll take a good long walk this morning. I walked yesterday to and from the restaurant where Scott and I ate a 4pm meal while he drove himself. We ate outside and I had Oliver with me, too.

Sunny glad you're enjoying the weather! We have so few of those days, glad when we have them!

Jarol good for you---keep going!

Dale, Love your phrases & sayings. They keep me going! Did you get your walk in today?

Bonnie, glad there was no damage. Take it slowly, dear friend, rememeber: moment by moment!

Today is piano lesson day. Because it's the last Thurs. of the month there is no tone chiime practice today. Have to bike ride in dreary, humid weather---ick! Can' t wait for Mr. Sunshine to come back!

I love Fall. The temperatures are lovely and the angle of the sunshine has a more indirect glow. Lovely views on the water with the clear skies.

Bonnie I am not sure if physical trainers and PT people realize how easy it is to damage something on someone who is a little older. I have stopped trusting, them and really get very stern if they try to push. One of my hot buttons. Glad the pain and swelling went down.

Off to clean more of the house.

BONNIE,
Life keeps showing us what our lesson is until we learn it. Funny that way.

MICHELE,
I'm glad you see rain as something natural rather than as an enemy. I found that when I shifted my attitude about inconvenient weather, that my spirits remained much more positive.

Noon already. Trouble sleeping leaves me in bed longer the next day lately.

I walked around with the dog on different routes yesterday (dinner time). I used it as visiting time on my cell with my L.I. friend Michael, so it amounted to an easy, pleasant outing.

Today I talk with Scott more about his possibly joining me next weekend. (yuck) For now I better concentrate on the next few hours I have for myself and see if I can get some things accomplished.

"Worry preoccupies so significantly that progress is always at a standstill...." (me)

Again a great day! Go get'um!!!

I had therapy on Monday and Tuesday, so I did not ride my bike on Monday morning. The swelling in my knee went down a lot. Guess I have identified that I was bending my knee too much when I was riding.

On Monday, I could only get my range of motion to 104 degrees. On Tues, with so much less swelling, I was up to 108, just a tad shy of that, but so much better.

I have moved my seat on my bike back a lot, and did just about 3 minutes very slowly this morning to see how it goes.

My PT has learned that for me, more is always better, NOT. I think he knows better how to proceed with me now.

I have to relearn this lesson over and over again.

Feeling pretty good this morning.

Sigh, just hoping I did not do any damage. Seems ok.

God Bless my friends.

I had the kittens to the vet today, they do have ringworm, the vet gave me pills to give them. At least I can crush them and mix it into their food. He said it is safe to put the athletes foot medicine on them sparingly. After the vet I had to stop at Wal-Mart to get a taller tote that has room for a small litter box. So far they haven't used it but they should start soon. As I was walking around the store I had the kittens with me in a duffel style carrier and they were crying. You should have seen some of the looks I was getting. I had to laugh at one woman, every time a baby would meow she would look around trying to find it. I finally had to tell her it was my bag that was meowing.

Michele
I hope all that rain is keeping it cooler there. I hope you don't melt in all that wet stuff.

Dale
I would love to have a park or lake or anything nearby to make my walks less boring. It's about a 1/2 hour drive to get to nearest nice park and I don't want to waste the gas, or drive that far every day to be honest. This time of year is the best for walking in a park with the cooler weather and soon the leaves will change to pretty colors.

Dale good for you that you are walking so much! I do that kind of walking (not for exercise but just to do the things I have to do in life!) a lot. Keep it up.

It is raining today; I have to go to Tokyo to teach English conversation to DH's cousin. It will mean walikng home from the train station near my house (20 min walk) in the rain--I'll proabably be soaked. Oh well. Here I go.......!

Made it home in the late afternoon. I stayed away from all of the food places, it really is a Fat-Filled Jungle at the airport. I fly into Burbank a smaller airport than Los Angeles which is always a zoo. However, there are not as many flights to Burbank so I had to wait around until one was available. Thank goodness I had my ipad and they have these lounging areas which plugs very nice.

Busy day today, got in a walk but now off to run errands.

Nice weather to eveyone

I WALKED BOTH LAKES yesterday. emoticon There's no time like now for being outdoors. Until we have our clocks change, I know conditions are green light for being outdoors. (Morning Wilde Lake park, and 6pm Centennial Lake park with Maria on that one.)

SUNNY,
How was your return home after that delay in the airport? It was good to find you posted to us while hanging out there. Walking the airport is a very constructive use of that hang out time.

SAMMI,
Walking 3 miles is great, and that rain was a factor makes me very impressed.

Breakfast time and second cup o java due.

Help. I have been at the DD's house in Phoenix again. They moved to a larger house and I have been trying to help them out by taking care of the grandson while they get the boxes unpacked and all the errands run. I won't be back until the end of October. I flew over from LA and my flight back has been canceled. So I am sitting in the airport for a few hours waiting for the next plane. It is nice that they have free wi-fi.

Bonnie you are doing well and taking good care of yourself. Healing and recovery from surgery gets harder and takes longer the older you get but you sound like you have been able to do some of the things you usually did before. I understand about taking care of grandchildren. I like to put in face to face time so he wants to be around me. Although he is now to that stage when he doesn't like his parents out of his sight, he will stay with me when they go off.

Michelle hope the storms aren't around for too long. The rain really impacts your ability to get around on your bicycle.

Sammi I should boil up some eggs and make breakfast sandwiches. I usually cook the egg whites in a nonstick pan but that would be a good alternative Would work for lunch sometimes too.

Well I am going to walk around the airport for a little exercise.

I'm glad to hear you got to go see the children this afternoon. It is good for your mental health to get out and do things, not to mention the extra exercise.

I cut the top crust off the Banana Raisin bread and slathered it with soft butter and it is really good. I put it away for tomorrow. If I don't watch out I will gain five pounds from all the tasting. LoL

Glad you and your husband had a treat together.

BRENDA

Sounds as though you have got the bread down now. After now using it for 10 years, I can see why it was a bit of a problem. But I knew you would preserver.

EK

That is quite a job going to school. Good luck with your studies. You are very brave.

Had a pretty good day today.

Went to see Max and Brielle this morning and had a bit of a visit. They got antsy and had other things they wanted to do, so I said that's ok, I just wanted to see you for a bit.

Went next door to see Ellee and Gracee, and they were very happy to see me. We spent about an hour together and I got tired and my leg got sore, so I went home.

You can tell that I generally babysit for Ellee and Gracee much more than Max and Brielle. They love me, and if I had been able to bring them to my house, they would have stayed half the day, but too much stuff going on at their house!

I was happy just to spend time with all of them.

Came home and got on my bike again, I did 8 minutes this morning, and 10 minutes this afternoon.

Walked about without the walker more today, so only doing 2 sessions on the bike.

It was sunny for part of the day today, but I am cold. Have had the furnace on for a bit, and will probably be turning it up again in a minute as I am now cold from having cold compresses on both knees!

Have a wonderful week my friends. God Bless

Brenda your banana raisin bread sounds delicious!

As for going to Starbuck's----we rarely go. I teach English conversation to Tad's (DH) cousin in Tokyo on Wednesdays, & we always meet at Starbuck's (her choice, not mine) & she always treats me to a black coffee. I usually end up giving the coffee away after the lesson to my husband or one of m y sons if they are in the plumbing office (near Starbuck's) b/c we don't pay those sky high prices, either. The movie star who was going to buy Tully's was from the drama series "Gray's Anatomy"---the dr. who is in love with the young female intern. I can't think of his name, either. And I didn't know he backed out of the deal. Too bad.

Have a good week! emoticon

Michele,

Yes, Tully's is in Seattle. It was just up for sale and one of the men moviestars was buying it (can't think of his name at the moment) but he recently backed out of the deal. I have never bought coffee from a coffee shop because I will not pay those exorbitant prices.

I have no problem baking bread from scratch. Back in the 'day' I baked bread every Saturday plus sweet rolls for the children.

Our state is called The Evergreen State so we do get a lot of rain but all these recent storms are unusual. Winter time is when we usually get them. Weather is changing all across the states.

It's nice that the Japanese honor their dead and parents.

EK,

I don't know if I told you emoticon . It is nice to meet you. You have a full plate with your college studies. Check in as often as you can. We are always here.

I made a loaf of banana bread and took it down for the potluck, then stayed and cleaned up the kitchen. We didn't have a big crowd but the food was pretty good. No vegetables tho. This last loaf of bread machine bread just came out and it is bigger than the other two. I made banana raisin bread so will take that down for our Monday morning coffee tomorrow.

It looks like the storm has passed now. The sun is out and wind has died down. It rained really hard for about an hour.

Have a good day everyone.

Brenda, keep practicing on the bread---I have done that & now my bread is perfect! And I make it by hand---no machine!
It seems you get a lot of stormy weather, or am I wwong here?

EK what is your field of study at college? Good for you! If you post more often, we'll get to know you better. There is also great support with this group!

Today is called, "O-higan" day here in Japan, a holiday (Monday) where people go to visit graves of relatives or friends to honor those who have passed before us. There is a ceremony at a temple where my DH'S mother is buried, & we are going to that & then onto her grave to lay flowers.

Yesterday DH & I treated ourselves to Starbuck's, something we don't normally do as it's just too expensive here. It was great to have such a delicious coffee!

Which reminds me, Brenda I wanted to ask you---i heard that "Tully's" the coffee shop which is here in Japan as well is from Seattle. Are you familar with this?

Have a good Monday, all! We are enjoying it first here in japan!

It's a dark and stormy Sunday Morning, just like the weather people said it would be. Looking over the posts, I thought I had posted about the second loaf of bread I baked but it may have been on another team.

The second loaf turned out perfect, as far as size and texture but it doesn't taste right. On further investigation I found I didn't put the salt in so that's the problem. So I am going to make another one this morning and pay close attention to the ingredients. I just read an article yesterday about making sure you have all the ingredients and carefully read the instructions before you start. Third time is a charm. LoL

Penguinmichelle,

I am a junior in college. Thanks for the sentiments. I am getting ready for church, soon. I had cream of wheat Cinnabon for breakfast. I hadn't tried this before. It was good. Needless to say, I ate too much yesterday after the funeral. There was so much good food brought in. It's time to get back on track! I am going to try to devote myself to getting up early everyday to workout at the wellness center on campus before classes! Send good vibes my way!

Well, my bread turned out to be half the size and more than a little dry but it is cooked! I put some butter on it and tried it. It is just OK. I don't know what I did wrong other than measure the sugar wrong. I thought it said 1 tablespoon so I put in three teaspoons. By the time I realized what I did it was too late to try to take some of the sugar out. I just thought it might be too sweet but it's not. This loaf will be done at 8 pm. It takes five hours to make a loaf of whole wheat. White bread only takes three hours. I have not used my bread machine for almost ten years.

Bonnie, how is your leg today?

EK are you in school? So sorry to hear about your brother in law. Cooking for everyone---that sounds like a lot of work! Do you like to cook?

Sammi, I have time for myself alot now, since my kids are all grown. Since I get up between 4-5 a.m. every monring, I always take a 15-20 minute nap in the afternoon. Then I read for at least 1/2 hour. Just love it!

Brenda, homemade bread---that sounds yummy! How did your bread turn out? I make bread now & then, but I do it by hand, since I haven't a bread machine. I too, am more of a loner. I do a lot of things by myself. I don'T like people telling me what to do---esp. younger people!

Have a good rest of the weekend, all!

MICHELE

Hope you are having another lovely day. You deserve some good weather.

Brenda

Home made bread, YUM. I am sure everyone will rave about it. Nice of you to make it.

EK

I am sorry for your loss, my sympathies Hoping that you and yours can find some solace and good in your together. God Bless

SAMMI

Thanks for the encouragement. I do get a bit worried, I can be pretty neurotic, but then I have to realize how far I have come.

Woke this morning, well actually it bothered me in the night too, to some pretty stiff muscles in my leg. Had a bite of breakfast, visited a bit with Scottie and his kids. They went to Dylan's football game, Dylan is the youngest, and very athletic, and Melanie, is older and loves being a girl. She is taking horse riding lessons, and is loving it.

Anyway, after they left, I went downstairs an took my shower and let lots of hot water run on the leg. Came upstairs and did 8 minutes on the bike. Had some Biofreeze, so put it on the muscles and it seemed to help ease the stiffness. Am going to order some over the internet.

Feels better now, and I just 10 more minutes on the bike. Doing well.

Have a great day my friends.

EK, breakfast sounds yummy. I tried a new Kashi cereal this morning, not as good as the Cinnamon Harvest which is my favorite. I do like a hard boiled egg sliced on a piece of whole wheat bread with a melted slice of Pepper Jack Cheese.

Dale, hahaha -- don't have skype yet. I'm better at animal stuff then people stuff unless I've had a personal encounter with something. The 19 years of cat rescue, dealing with almost 200 a year and lots of time spent asking questions at the vets office. I was actually right on a diagnosis on a kitten I took in. He was impressed.

Tammy, dinner. sounds wonderful.

Bonnie, you are doing so well! Congrats.

Brenda, you are a guardian angel to so many of your friends. Bless you.

Hey, all, I just wanted to check in before I get going for the day. I have to cook for my family for a funeral today. My step brother in law died and visitation and funeral are both today. I was up til 1:30 last night doing statistics homework, so I wouldn't have to come back home to homework tonight. I got 100% on homework. I don't know how that happened! Whew!!! I had a good breakfast of oats, apple, brown sugar (1tbsp) , 1 tbsp walnuts and cinnamon and some wonderful, aromatic coffee. The morning came too early after being up till 1:30. Have a great day, all!

Dale,

I don't need to go outside my building to socialize because there are plenty of people here to keep me busy. I am not prone to go to group meetings, I would rather stay in my comfort zone and do not like organized activities. I have been pretty much a loner my whole life and keep myself busy. Sam is the other way and needs to be with people most of the time and she is constantly talking on the phone. At the moment she is showing her sister around our state for the weekend. She picked her up at the airport yesterday morning and she has called me four times since she left to tell me where they are. Last night they were in Eastern Washington in Yakima on the way to visit family members back on this side in Oak Harbor. She will be moving to the other place in two weeks and yes. we will get together occasionally. I don't have friends outside the building that live around here. The ones I had at the other place have either died or moved away.

Yesterday I took Helen to two banks and then she decided she needed to go to Safeway for groceries. Our manager and I were going to make bread in the bread machines so I picked up the flour and Crisco that she forgot to bring and by the time we got back, Laurie had gone over to our other building that she also manages (where Sam will be moving). So I will just go ahead and make the bread myself this morning, using two bread machines. It needs to be started early because it takes three to four hours from start to finish.

Did you get your printer working? I have never had a problem hooking one up myself. Just plug it into your computer and insert the DVD installer and it does it by itself.

Have a good day everyone.

Bonnie, stay safe this weekend when you go out! You have worked so hard, you really deserve this! What a treat.

And by the way, Brenda, I just wanted to mention what a good friend you are to all who are around you! I wish there were more your type around our neighborhood here. It seems young people around here nowadays are so into themselves, always "Me first" type of attitude . It is rather sad. Have a good weekend. Is E any better? Is she going to the assisted living or will she be back with all of you?

You all sound pretty good today. Hope you all are!

Had PT this morning, and worked very hard, harder than we have been working, so I guess I am making progress. Pretty tired this PM. Did 8 minutes on the bike a bit ago, and will try to get a few more in this evening. Going slowly is helping.

Was a little disappointed that I only got my Range of Motion up to 103 today. Was hoping for 105. Aaron is not worried, so I am not either. His ultimate goal for me is 110. Hoping to be able to get there in the next couple of weeks.

I am going to try to see Ellee, Gracee and Max and Brielle sometime this weekend. I can drive now, so I don't have to have anyone take me. I won't stay long, but it will be good to get out Of course, I have to work around their busy schedules. LOL Looks like maybe Sunday afternoon for Ellee and Gracee, and still have to talk to Ang about Max and Bri's schedules. If possible, I would go out two different times because then I will get more attention from each of them. When all 4 are together, they get involved with each other. I want to be the center of attention Will do whatever works.

Have a good evening and a great weekend my friends. God Bless

Hi all Just checking in to say hi

Bonnie, did you get out as planned? Maybe it is time to get out again. Good for you.

Sunny, hope you're having a good weekend.

Tammy, glad you enjoyed your dinner. As long as you balance out your calories, yes, then you can eat that way once in a while.

Dale, I always get my walks in between 4 & 5 am IT is amazing! how many older people walk at that time! We are regulars, & always say "good morning" to each other.
As for my DH, yes, he plays jazz at 2 separate restaurants with his band, playing at each of the restaurants twice a month. We go for wallks, out to breakfast together a lot, & do our own things sometimes too. The balance is good. I love to sit at home & cross stitch or read, my all time favorite thing to do.
What Helen Hunt movie did you watch? Hope your new boarder is all you were looking for!

Time to teach english, then piano practice. Today our heat returns! Hmph! emoticon

It is a nice day today, I like the fall weather even though it is early for NC. We went to the Captian's Galley for dinner, a seafood place, I had the salmon and salad, Bill had all you can eat crab legs (I had a couple of them too). It was a little heavy on the calories but I had yogert and fruit for lunch so it evened out.

Be well my friends. emoticon

Friday 9/20/13
142.0

Good morning. Yesterday I walked myself around Wilde Lake yesterday with Oliver and stopped to visit with dogs and children along the way. The weather was really perfect. I guess I had a good day overall. Mom and I watched a Helen Hunt movie last night that I don't think went into the movie theaters. It was well done.

I do think Darshan will be easy to live with. (The emphasis is on the first syllable in his name.) Certainly there will be none of the crying jags and whining that Sharon sometimes relied on. May he stay a year or more!

Good for any of of you who walk right away in the morning! It's going to be too warm here today and I chose my coffee and HB egg on toast (and computer visiting) over heading toward the lake, when I took Olly out. We CAN do this. Morning is the freshest part of the day.

Tonight Sara, Mom and I go to our first foreign film of this season's series. AMOUR, which I think I already saw but am not sure is up; about the hard part of love and late aging.

BONNIE,
I think going out this weekend is a great idea. Even if you only last one hour, have someone take you somewhere else to lay down on a couch. Just take the pain pill before leaving and carry one with you in case you stay long enough to need it for your return.

And as far as wasting away, naw, I'm just returning to what a healthy body ought to look like. I can actually weigh 136 and still be curvy but trim. At my age, I thought I'd forget about the 130s and if I do get there, fine, but it's no goal. For me, thin was weighing 128.

BRENDA,
When I ask you about activities or friends outside your building, you don't give me any feedback, and I wondered why. Is 6 miles away too inconvenient for you to plan something with your friend who is moving, or will you definitely get together?''
emoticon TAMMY,
How was your birthday dinner? Where did you select to go?
SAMMI is a wealth of information about kitten care. I wonder if she can diagnose MY itchy bumps that came many days ago and flair up every night. Ha! I'd have to try to Skype my inner arm... SAMMI? emoticon

MICHELE,
Your weekend has one activity in it so far. Do you ever go anywhere for a few hours with your husband? What does he do other than work? I'd think that it's time for some socializing could be put into place, if not with him, without. Talk to us.

SUNNY,
You drive to Arizona frequently to be with or watch your grandson. Didn't you say it's a 7 hour trip? You don't have to reply here of course, but are there special needs your daughter copes with to warrant such heavy support? Regardless of the reason you go, I love that you can give her so much of yourself! I feel a draw to her energetically myself right now so I'm just listening to my intuition. May they be healthy and safe.

Have a great Friday,
Dale

Good Morning Everyone,

No, Elinor is not doing a very good job taking care of herself, that's for sure. She is so obsessed about salt that her potassium and sodium levels are too low, that's what her problem is. She may get out of the hospital today and go to the nursing home for therapy. They have been pumping her full of liquids and walking her. Her two daughters went to see her yesterday so that put her in a little better frame of mind. I just cannot stand her complaining every second. She needs to move down the street to the assisted living apartments where she will be monitored.

Today is food bank here so I will go down and help unload the van and put the boxes of canned goods on the shelf. Last month I had to rotate all the cases because whoever put them away last month didn't check the dates. First I need to take Helen to the bank to change her password. She answered an email thinking it was her bank telling her to put in her password so they can check it. It was from MSN, or so it said. I told her how foolish she was to do that and never, never respond to any of those because people are phishing trying to get information to empty her bank account.. She is 95 and now she knows better.

We have another rain/wind storm on the way for the weekend so I have no plans to go anywhere.

It sounds like you all are doing well and ready for the weekend. Have a good one.

Good Morning Sparklers! Yesterday was one of those where very little went as planned -- felt like I was chasing my tail. Finally settled down later in the day.

Tammy, yes the anti fungal, jock itch stuff works well. My vet in Scottsdale told me I could spend twice as much on the animal version or just go to the drug store and get the people product. My first encounter with ring worm was a kitten from the pound -- she loved to rub her head under my chin -- so top of her head and under my chin. Tinactin (sp) was the best one.

Have to run, have a wonderful day Spark Friends, Sammi

Sunny, how was the visit with your grandson?

Bonnie, you are doing so well! Sometimes it is really hard to be patient with ourselves, our bodies, isn't it? Enjoy your "boredom" It is good for you. Sometimes doing nothing so is restful!

Dale, you are doing so well! Keep up your good work! You are so inspiring to me!

Tammy, how are the kittens? Is the ringworm any better? Did you catch it?

Brenda, I agree with bonnie that maybe E. should be in a nsg home? You are so wonderful to take care of her!

We are having our 4th day in a row! of very nice, sunny weather. This is not going to last, so I am enjoying every moment that we have.
I am off to the pool today (Friday) as I haven'T been able toswim all week yet.

Enjoy your time with your grandson.

DALE

You are just fading away to nothing! You already look wonderful.

Girls,

You are right, that is what I did today, put on slower music. Did 3 sessions, one 10 minutes, one 6 minutes and one 8 minutes, but very slowly. Guess I am just too old for Rod Stewart anymore! LOL

BRENDA

Glad for your friend that she is getting a good deal, but sorry she will be leaving you. Good you have a car and she is not too far away.

Your other friend actually sounds as though she should be in a nursing home. She doesn't seem to be doing very well taking care of herself. You are so good to go and pick her up when she needs you.

Had a very lazy day today. The weather is not very conducive to doing much. Kind of dreary. Pretty warm and humid but I did sit on the deck under my gazebo and have my lunch and read my book for awhile. I am so glad that my bike is on the enclosed front porch. Lets me see what is going on in the neighborhood, and get out of the house, even if it is enclosed.

Keep telling myself that this is what I signed on for, but I am getting pretty bored. My friend came over yesterday to visit, and Diana went to the grocery for me today so visited a little. Scott generally spends some time with me in the evening. That all helps.

If I am feeling pretty good on Sat, or Sun, I am going to call and see what Ellee, Gracee, Max and Brielle are doing, maybe I can go out and see them. The problem is that I am not really physically comfortable anywhere but home.

Have a session with my PT tomorrow, and I know I am getting stronger. That may help too.

Really glad that I had the left knee done first, or I would not be able to drive yet. One of those things that works out for the best accidentally. Had left knee done because it hurt the most.

At this point, I am planning on having the right knee done on 10-15, that will be 8 weeks. It will also give me a bit of time to get out of the house as I am feeling better for a bit before having to be totally confined again.

Hope you are all having a great day, enjoy the evening.

Hello emoticon 's

emoticon

I had heard that the antifungul cream for athletes foot could be used for ringworm but I'm not sure it is safe for the kittens. I have an appointment at the vet for next Tues. that was the earliest appointment they had. Barbara will pay for it I just have to take them.

Michele
I am happy that you are having some cooler weather, the heat and humidity can be so draining.

Bonnie
It sounds like you are making good progress. Remember, slow and steady wins the race.

Brenda
Yes, I had heard about the dog that turned in the baby sitter. What a smart dog that is. Mine aren't that smart. Even though they smell and watch the babies all the time they don't like for the kittens to touch them, almost like they are afraid of them.

I need to feed the kittens before we go out to dinner so I need to get off of the computer and get moving.

Be well my friends. emoticon

Tammy,

If you do get ringworm get some athletes's foot ointment and apply that on the ringworm and it goes away in a few days. It is a fungus. I don't know what they give animals. I got it once and showed it to my neighbor and she took me to the drugstore and we showed the pharmacist and he told us what to get. One of the women where I used to live went to the hospital (and died a few days later) so I dog sat sitting in the lobby for a few hours waiting for the family to come get the dog. It was a perfect circle just above my right boob. The pharmacist was a little distressed when pulled down my shirt a few inches and I showed him. He was Middle Easterner. LoL

I'm surprised your dog didn't pick up the kitten and put it back in the bed. They are excellent babysitters. Did you see on TV about the dog that got aggressive towards the babysitter? They set up a smart phone under the couch and heard her slapping and yelling at the little boy and heard him crying out in pain.. She is now going to prison for three years. They did screen her and do a background check but that sometimes isn't enough.

Bonnie, Slow and steady now. Forget being gung ho. I know how you are when you have an issue to solve. Put on slower music. We tend to forget that we aren't as young as we used to be.

It's official that Sam got the night manager job so she will be moving in a couple weeks. I will miss her living here but she is only moving about six miles. I found out she only has to do the smaller building where she will be living. Piece of cake.

Well,, Elinor just called me at 7:30 am to tell me she went to the hospital at midnight and is there all alone (she told me three times) and the doctor hasn't been in yet and she is on an IV. She had mass indigestion. I have been telling her all along that it is probably her heart because of having that all the time, stomach pain, nausea and back aches. Her daughter Pam is busy taking care of her dad (Elinor's x-husband) and the oldest is leaving today for the ocean for four days. Oh woe is she. She said she doesn't expect me to do anything. She knows I don't wait in doctor's offices or do hospital visits. She needs to rest. I told her the doctor will be in when he has something to tell her. I do feel bad for her but there is absolutely nothing I can do for her other than go pick her up when she is ready to come home. I'm sure someone from her family will be visiting her. She has grandchildren that drive. Of course they are all busy too. I will call her friends at the Vintage and they will go visit her.

Have a good day everyone.

I laughed out loud when I heard you say that the dogs said "I didn't do it". So very cute.

Hope your friend gets you something for the ringworm right away. I don't think it is too hard to cure. Hope you don't get it as well.

Have a great birthday tomorrow. Enjoy your salmon. I love to go out and have salmon, or if I can get Ahi Tuna, I am in heaven.

MICHELE
So glad you are having some nice weather.

You deserve some good days that's for sure!

My PT told me today to NOT go fast on the exercise bike, and I think that is what I did wrong on Sunday. I had a couple of Rod Stewart cd's blaring away, and got carried away with the music.

Did 10 minutes this evening at a slow pace. He just wants me to work on the range of motion. I also found that I can put my leg up on the footrest of my lazy boy chair, and get a good stretch there. Could not do that before.

All is well.

Wishing you all a lovely Thursday.

emoticon Wow! I finally got caught up reading all the posts. I have been so busy I didn't even get my food logged til today for Mon, Tues and today. When everything revolves around feeding the babies it doesn't take much to throw off my schedual. The babies are growing fast. yesterday the gray one figured out how to get out of the clothes basket. I was upstairs for a couple of minutes and heard him crying, when I came down he was running around at the bottom of the stairs. The dogs kind of looked at me like "I didn't do it" emoticon I had to go through the upstairs closet and find a tote that had higher sides.

Now for the bad news. It seems like the kittens may have ringworm. It is a fungus, not a worm and needs to be treated by a vet. It is contagious and I hold them all the time and cuddle them by my face. My chin has been itching but I don't see anything there...yet. Barbara will have to get me some medicine or take them to the vet. I know she works with donations and can't afford it any more than I can but Bill would kill me if I took them.

I want to thank everyone for the birthday wishes. My birthday is tomorrow, on the 19th so nobody missed it. My DH takes me out to dinner for my birthday (and every other occasion) so I have that to look forward to tomorrow. All I have to do is decide where. I like eating healthy now and it is hard to find healthy food around here. Everything is deep fried or buffets. There are a couple of places I can get salmon so that is what I usually pick.

Dale

I too love your duck analogy. Very funny, but true.

DALE

I too am glad things are going better for you.

Had my Physical Therapy this morning. On Thurs, we got my range of motion to 97. Today after working hard again, we got it to 102. My PT is pleased. I am too. He wants to get it to 105 maybe by Friday or Monday.

I am sleeping some better, and that is making me feel better too. I always have ice after therapy. Today I had to walk quite a ways to get into the gym, and then back out. Came home and did another icing on my knees.

My friend Kate is going to bring me lunch in a little bit. That will be a nice break.

When I weighed this morning, I am down to 284.2. Down about 12 or 13 pounds since surgery, with 8.2 pounds to get down to my tracker. I will get there, 'cause I am not changing it now!

Hope you all have a lovely rest of the day. God Bless

Good Morning Everyone,

It is much cooler this morning and I feel like turning on the heat but it really isn't that cold.
Yesterday afternoon I took Lura to Safeway to pick up her prescription and didn't wear a sweater and I had goose bumps. As soon as we got back the sun came out and it was too warm. Wait five minutes and the weather changes.

I finally got Sam's pants shortened and dropped them off to her. She leaves Friday morning to pick her sister up at the Portland airport and they will go visit family members and take a some sightseeing excursions for the weekend. They are both excited.

Yesterday was Big Time Bingo and I won one game for $5 so came out $2 ahead. It was after the Cornfest potluck but I didn't go to that because I didn't like the menu of chicken hotdogs and corn on the cob and various mystery dishes and desserts. Then I took Lura to Safeway to pick up her prescription.

This morning I'm taking Elinor to the to see the PA because her doctor isn't there for the next few days. Yesterday I took her a dozen eggs that I had extra from the foodbank and she looks awful but her voice is sounding stronger although the complaining hasn't eased up any. She is having a lot of indigestion and stomach pain and I told her it could be her heart because that is one symptom for women. But the last doctor visit found nothing wrong with her heart. She claims it is the antibiotics making her sick so she quit taking them last. Before that she said it was the Beta Blockers so she quit taking them two weeks ago. I told her they should be out of her system by this time. Then she says she feels like just laying down and giving up. Maybe she should go to a nursing home for a while like she said the other day. Myself, I just think she is really depressed and told her so. Oh well.........................maybe they will find something today.

Bonnie,

You are doing so well so keep on doing what you are doing. emoticon

Dale,

You sound so much calmer now that you have all your ducks in a row finally. It is exhausting chasing them around.

Have a good day.

Whatever comes up, make your first thought:
"What Would I Do if I Knew I Could Not Fail?"

! good morning to all who are awake

Today I have a couple of client sessions and tomorrow one more. That income is SO welcome!!! And the sessions are mutually rewarding I'm pleased to say.

Darshan has just left for work (9:35) which means he wasn't bustling about too early for me prior. I guess he arrives by 10 and works into early evening, like Sharon did. He isn't into cooking (yay) so I should have an easy time sharing the kitchen. Today he prints out the lease since I can't get my printer to take instruction from the computer (still) even though my brother thought he corrected that. Hope signing it is smooth! I took all yesterday afternoon to type it out on a word doc so it could reflect the terms we agreed upon.

Later,
Dale

Daily walking sure feels good again.

SUNNY,
You do four miles or more. Wow. Centennial is 2.6 miles they say and it takes me between 42-50 minutes. I think it's more. Then my closer park of Wilde Lake is shorter and takes about 30-38 minutes. If I do a double around Wilde Lake and do the dog walking around the block, I get in my 10,000 steps per day. So I'm not sure that all these stats add up right.

BONNIE,
You just had to back off to rest up right now. I bet you'll be able to return to a decent bend and time working out in a few more days, just having learned to increase more gradually when you're giving it your all. I don't want to see you lose your momentum over a temporary setback. And uh, yeah, those pills enable you to do that strength training..

Clients tomorrow and Thursday. Going to watch tv in bed an hour earlier than normal tonight. When the weather cools down, and there's no company, my bed gets more and more enticing to inhabit.

sweet dreams, ya'all.

Hope you have had another even better day today.

BRENDA

You are right, it is important to keep ahead of the pain by taking the pills regularly. I just have this thing that I am stronger than everyone else, and don't have to follow the rules. LOL

Am better today. Still taking the pills on time. Actually need to take one in a minute, was due 15 minutes ago.

Made myself go back to sleep every time I woke last night, fortunately didn't wake as much as the night before, and did not get up for the day until 11:45AM. That did me good as well.

I moved the seat back about 2 settings from where I have been riding it, so my knee does not bend as much. Rode slowly this morning for about 3 minutes. Going to regroup. Have an appointment with my PT tomorrow and am hoping to be enough better that we can work a little more. Having to lower my expectations just a bit.

Hope you are all having a lovely day, God Bless

The Fall is bringing cooler weather in the morning which makes it great for long walks. I have been walking 4 miles most days and today we did 5 mi. It really helps with the stamina but does not bring down the numbers on the scale. I have been tracking really closely and gave up wine with dinner for the next few weeks. The number on the scale was down this morning. This is good because I have a wellness check up next month and I would really like all the numbers to be good. Going to finish cleaning the house today.

Michelle glad that the weather is good right now

Bonnie,

I read somewhere sometime that taking pain pills after surgery is a must because they help the body heal faster. Just a thought. I am really proud of you for doing your exercises. When neighbor Mary had her knees done she didn't do the exercises the doctor told her to do and it took her a long time to get back to "normal". She used her walker and leaned almost doubled over the hand grips and I don't know how she didn't wreck her back in the process.

Sam stopped by yesterday afternoon and told me some good news for her that I am bound to secrecy with the information. She was offered the night manager job at our sister building so would be moving there if she is approved by the head honcho (Tim) in Seattle. No pay but would get free rent which is just over $300 in value. Duties are to check lights and doors at night and just be available for any night emergencies. I am happy for her but will miss her when (and if) she gets hired. The woman doing it now is moving so the job will be available in two weeks. There's not many available to do that job being on call every night. It is a bigger complex, two different buildings and it is next door to the hilacoptor (spellng?) landing pad at the hospital. Oh well, such is life.

Michele,

It's good to hear the hurricane is over and you are all safe.

Tammy,

Is your birthday posted somewhere? I thought I missed your day but now found out it is the 19th. My daughter's is the 20th. She will be 48. Darn, is she getting old!! LoL

BONNIE,
Glad you are backing off some. Pacing vs pushing is a fine art you practice as you go along. It sounds like you are doing fine really.

MICHELE,
Isn't luscious weather the best? I'm so glad you are getting a slice. YUM.

SUNNI,
Enjoy your busy day. I hope to be productive around here to make up for yesterday's need to slack off. Waking at 4a.m. did change my game plan and so I napped the productive hours away.

My friend Maria and I got to walk Centennial Park after 6pm which really pleased me. And Darshan moved his suitcases in after work and set up his room. Scott has started his own move to the townhouse rental but isn't over there quite yet. His helpers turned out unavailable.

Happy Tuesday, wherever you are (and Michele, Wednesday of course)...

Thanks to you all for the birthday wishes. Had a nice day. Visits from friends, etc. Natalie brought me dinner and stayed late and visited.

TAMMY

Happy birthday to you on Thursday.

DALE

Keep forgetting to tell you how much I love your new profile pic. You look just great.

Yesterday morning I woke with my leg feeling much less stiff and sore. Thought that I had turned some kind of a corner, and since I had been working harder and more every day, thought it would be a good day to work hard. Well, not such a good idea. Last evening I was so tired, and my knee so stiff and sore that I just sat or layed around most of the evening. Did not sleep well last night, actually was awake most of the night every hour until early this morning.

Got up this morning and did some stretching exercises, did 5 very slow minutes on the bike,. (On Sunday, I did an 8 minute session and a 12 minute session, just too much I think) Took my shower, iced my leg etc.

Went to my PT and told my therapist " Well, I knew you were in trouble today when I cried because I could not get my sock and tennis shoe on". I hurt, so was very teary for the first part of the session. This young man, was so empathetic, without making me feel he was just giving me lip service. He had me do exercises that stretched and made me feel better, and talked me into such a better place.

Went to the chiropractor for an adjustment to my back, it was hurting too, and then home. Am just resting and icing my knee with a few light stretches, and expect to better in the morning.

I was very impressed with this young man.

I am not really upset about having a bad day, this was really my first "bad" one since my surgery 4 weeks ago tomorrow. He encouraged me to know that I had two more weeks to get much better, and that I would be better by then. I think I was just putting too much pressure on myself.

Going to take my pain pills on a more regular basis today, and then hoping to sleep well tonight. Think that will make a difference. I don't like taking the pills, so I spread them out. Not sure that is a good idea right now, so going to be a bit more vigilant with taking them for a few days

God Bless my friends have a great week.

Tammy,

Happy belated birthday! I scrolled back through the posts but can't find where you said when your birthday is. I am glad to hear the kittens are thriving under your watchful care.

We are having stormy weather the last few days. Lots of thunder and lightening yesterday but not a lot of rain. It is very dark this morning, cool air blowing through my windows. It feels good.

Dale,

I am glad to hear you finally found your boarder and am sure it will work out in the long run. When I first saw your new picture I thought we had a new member! Until I started reading and knew it was you in disguise. LoL It is a great picture and you look so svelt!

When I write about Elinor I just want you all to know that it doesn't happen on a daily basis that she calls and whines but it is wearing on me when she does. I have no patience for people who say " I can't".

Have a great day everyone.

Good Morning Sparklers! Welcome back Shanti. I love my yoga --- would like to go three times a week, but so far two works for me --- I like the 10:30 class --- we have such a nice mix of beginners, us that have been going for about a year and folks who have been doing yoga most of their lives. Love learning new poses and getting better at the ones I do now.

Happy Belated Tammy. Sorry I missed it.

Michele, hope you have a good day.

Ziggy as teacher
FROM dale TO You

The present is what slips by us while we're pondering the past and worrying about the future.
- Ziggy, cartoon foible

How do you keep everything in perspective?

Is there anything that Ziggy doesn't know? In the cartooning universe, he's often placed in hopeless situations, pitted against a world that doesn't make sense. He's an agreeable punch line for the quirks of human nature. Yet he's able to brush off his mishaps and focus on the opportunities that today brings. He can also look to the future with hope, knowing full well that more struggles may lie ahead. Most of all, he can look at himself and have a good chuckle.

Do you make yourself anxious about things that might happen or stew over mistakes you've made? Don't let a preoccupation with tomorrow or yesterday rob your ability to face that crazy world with a smile. For Ziggy, today is today. It's not a good day; it's not a bad day. It's a day. And he knows that it's important to give that day the value it deserves.

SHANTI,
Good to hear back from you. Sorry you've got all that bracing to put up with. Let the healing be thorough and ideal!
emoticon TAMMY,
Your birthday as well? I didn't know. HAPPY BIRTHDAY to you!

KATHY -- WHERE ARE YOU?

I'm fading fast. Was wide awake by 4a.m. and couldn't go back to sleep so I got up by 5:30. It's now 9 and I'm still drinking coffee, knowing I want to walk Oliver around the lake soon.

Today SCOTT moves into his newly leased townhouse with friend LANA, and I get my short term tenant tonight (DARSHAN). I certainly hope that I made the right long term decision on cohabitation. I both don't want to be miserably trapped in my own home by a companion with poor communication and I also don't want to be miserably trapped in isolation surviving on my own. Wait a minute. That's lose-lose thinking. No good comes from viewing everything from it's worst vantage point. Phew. I better go for my third walk in a row this morning and burn off some of my uncertainty. I have no control over the future and made the best possible decision based on today. I have to learn to live with that.

I do rely on relationships with others while I still want to handle my own life. Neither extreme is my goal. Okay, enough of that. It looks like rain might come in and that would damper my walk for sure, pun intended. I better get going. There's that peculiar lease I have to write up and also some tax credit forms I should have (!!!!!) completed and mailed in months ago. Pray that I'm not past their deadlines.

Dale

Shanti I just have to deal with this weather---have to make the best of it!

It is definitely hard on rainy days to keep small kids occupied! I was challenged with my 3---and there is a lot!!! of rain in Japan. One learns to do what one has to do despite the rain!

The typhoon has moved on; now there is a big mess of branches, leaves, & other debris to clean up! At least that will keep my mind off of eating! LOL! emoticon emoticon

Happy Birth Week! Didn’t make it to post on your birthday, I hope you can celebrate all week. So happy that your knee replacement is going well and that you feel ready for round two. You are doing all the right things to make a good recovery.

You asked me sometime ago what was with my knee, I haven’t had time to answer you. I broke my kneecap in a fall, seems to be healing well. I am still in a brace and told to keep the brace on day and night, with no weight on the foot for the first 4 weeks. I can take the brace off now while I sleep as long as I put a smaller brace on, I have been told not to bend the knee. I am still on crutches, and can now put weight on the foot.

Did you enjoy the time with your FIL today? I told DH that it is “Respect for the Aged Day” in Japan, he had a good laugh at that. TJ had a terrible day today! He was so hyper and disrespectful, even JR couldn’t stand being around him! It rained most of the day, so I couldn’t let him out to ride his bike and burn off some of his energy, tried to play a simple card game with him, poor kid couldn’t focus on it. It did clear up around dinnertime, JR took him for a long bike ride emoticon which made him happy for a little while. School day tomorrow!!!!! I think I would go crazy with your weather!

Wishing you a Happy Birthday, make that a Happy Birth Week! How are the kittens doing?

I agree you should write a book, or better yet write the script for a TV comedy show! It could be called “Brenda’s Place” I think some people start to get a little bit crazy when they start to get older because they do not have enough to keep their minds occupied or think they have a purpose in life. You are a lot like my aunt, she never sits still, she always is going somewhere, or doing something for others, we tell her she will never get old because she never stays still so old age can find her!

Back in May, I made a promise to go to evening yoga classes three nights a week from Sept until Dec, without missing any classes. I did miss last week, looking forward to going tomorrow, I might not be able to do many poses, but I will enjoy the meditation and relaxation! emoticon emoticon

Everyone take care and have a wonderful week.
