TUFF Phase 2 (weeks 5-8)

Week 5 of 12 (Jul 28 to Aug 3):

Sun - I am excited today to "officially" report body stats as a whole since starting TUFF heavy lifting program on July 1st! I took preliminary stats on Friday but should have waited at least 48 hrs for my body to adjust (swelling of muscles to decrease).

I've lost 2 lbs so far, decreased body fat from 34.1% to 31.7%, lost 4.75 inches in all areas of the body but increased 1/4" in the forearm (must be from that offestting of weights I use..lol). I have progressed in the amounts of weights lifted, too. What is more important to me than weight loss is to see a decrease in Body Fat. Ladies, this should be the area that is important for you as well. It is not unusual to maintain weight or even gain when lifting heavy but still decrease your body's fat composition. It means you are leaning out...muscle replacing fat....so PLEASE focus on measuring and calculating your body fat. Happy dancing today!!

My water consumption is a little better than months past...lol. At least I do consume on average of 4 cups per day. I will plan on bringing that up to 5 cups per day during next month...lol.

To weigh in @ 152 on the 30th. This morning I hit the scale and I came up @ 156 so I've got a ways to go.

To walk/run/bike/ 550 miles---467.72. Yesterday I ran the hills course( 6.2 miles) at a very slow pace that's twice this week because of the humidity it was brutal.

To walk/run/bike/ 550 miles---318.33, this early morning I ran the "hills" with a group of about 14 runners, I guess we all are a bit nuts to take on this type of challenge in such an oppressive day well it's done. After the run I went to the gym to cool down on a recumbent bike and pedaled for two hours. Taking it nice and easy, I feel great.

To attain 750,000 steps---440,503. That's not counting today.

My goals remain the same: 30 minutes of exercise at least 5 days/week. So far ben doing pretty well. Since i've been in 'plateau' mode for some time now i'm trying to jump start the old metabolism by doing fewer reps with weights but lifting heavier. Can see my arm muscles! Will check the scale later this week. emoticon

Well today was supposed to be my day off but I ended up walking for a long time. I put 74 minutes but I was there for 3 hours.

So I didn't take a day off like I was supposed but
I didn't do any strength training and
I didn't do any cardio exercise so

Did I or didn't I make my goal? emoticon

This am I ran the Hills it was exhausting, I did the 6.2 mile course in 77 minutes, what a workout, I've already gone through 4 shirts and its only 12:00. emoticon

I checked my measurements today. Everything pretty much stayed the same except my arms, down .5 " and neck .5". I couldn't lose in my waist or hips, no it has to be my neck. emoticon

Sat – Official rest day from exercise.
Non-Scale Victory… I updated body stats this morning. I am pleased to see decreases in my chest, waist, thighs, and BF % since starting this heavy lifting program on July 1st. I won't weigh until Sundays since it gives my muscles two days after the last WO session (Friday) to release the water that causes them to swell. I'm not expecting a change in the scale. But, I am lifting heavier each week in some exercises and leaning out with a little more muscle.

Of course you can join. Go to the beginning of the post and it will tell you how. The beginning may be a couple of pages back. Basically you decide what you are going to challenge. Some are challenging a certain number of steps. Someone may challenge drinking water. I need to form a healthy exercise habit so my challenge is to exercise every other day cardiac and on alternate days I do strength training and I rest on Sunday. Have fun with your challenge. emoticon

July Goals 11th,

To run/walk/bike 550 miles--212.56---This am I ran the hills with an accomplished runner who is in training for the NYC marathon, she was an awesome runner , gave me a few tips that I will work on, she had to stop twice to catch her breath, however she stood with me inspite of my slow approach.

Yesterday I did eat my planned-for bagel and cream cheese. But I let a slight scheduled change convince me that I also needed some mini chocolates too. But I stayed within my calorie range. emoticon
Tonight I am putting those mini chocolates into my plan plus I am having some cherries. emoticon

Yanks - yeah...you do need the calories to fuel the kind of fitness that's performed. Most people tend to eat way to little calories to fuel their bodies and see results. Everyone should know their BF% and use that number to help determine their BMR, TDEE, and Daily Calorie Needs to Lose Weight.

I eat close to 2000 calories per day now and losing weight, inches, and gaining leaner muscle mass.

Today was cardio. I performed Skimble Trainer Max Tabata Test (11 mins) which was an intense fat burning workout and followed with an interval type of walk outdoors for 22 minutes. I burned more calories in the 11 minute workout than the 22 minute workout. Tabata is a fast and efficient way of getting in great high intensity interval training cardio! I will be adding it to my cardio routines.

I asked my Dr. the other day if it would be alright to shoot for this # he said it would bring my BMI levels a bit below where he would like it to be, then he said go for it. I'm eating like a horse, well over 3,000 calories daily, I need that type of fuel when exercising as much as I do. emoticon

Yanks - I tend to agree with you that the heat may have affected your latest performance running the hill. It can be a beast of heat sometime..whew! We hit 100 today but thank goodness all of my fitness was indoors in the a/c.

Cindy - come up with a "healthy" snack idea when you get those "urges".

This morning I used CLX Push Circuit 3's warm-up and cool down routine with the TUFF Lower Body 1 Workout. By time I hit the 3rd set of most exercises it was tough/cardio effect. I felt like I could go up in weights for the Standing Calf Raise and the Side Bends but not my hands holding it..lol. Wonder if a wrist strap would help with this? Need to inquire and get one a.s.a.p. Finished this workout in approximately 65 mins.
DB sets in use: 7.5, 15, 16.25, 20, 22.5, 23.75, 25, 27.5, 28.75.
