This is the best time of the year for me and exercising by gardening. Tilling in the compost, making rows for seeding and transplants is extreme exercise for me! I get outside in the sun and get the reward of fresh vegetables to freeze, can, and give away to the neighbors & friends. There is a lot of satisfaction in gardening, especially the solitude when tending to the garden alone. I also got motivated enough to finally walk in the evenings with my grandson who is 4. I got out of breathe answering his questions more than by the walk itself!!
Thanks everyone for the replies. Hubby and I both found muscles hurting that we didn't know we had in the first place. Gardening is a workout on our 66 & 68 yr old bodies. haha We put out the hummingbird feeder today and hopefully our flock will be back this year. Luv watching them from the swing on the back porch. I always look forward to cleaning and putting my summer things on the porch. Don't know what color combo to use this year tho as my swing and rocking chairs need new paint. It's been yellows and greens for a couple of years but I'm ready to change it up. Hope everyone is having a good day!

Gardening is hard to measure, but my body knows when I use muscles I didn't even know I had! I love to work in the garden and this is the best time of the year. Maybe it counts as flexibility and stretching? Strengthening? Cardio? I know it is good for me, what ever it does! Happy growing and Sparking!

I love working out in the yard and garden; so glad it is spring! Going tomorrow to get tomato plants, and see what else looks good. I have such a problem with growing flowers because I live in the country in West Texas, and what the deer don't eat, the draught we have had for the past three years (at least) makes it hard to find things other than cactus that will survive with little water. In the summer it also gets to the 100 degree temp. quite often. After working outside in the yard for hours I am so sore and tired that I feel like I've really put in a good workout. We also raise Longhorn cattle, and lifting 50 lb. bales of hay and cow minerals is getting harder to do for this 66 year old! I love it though...
Gardening is great exercise, and you are rewarded in so many ways. I have a lot of herbs, and I like working in the garden because of all the lovely scents. Today I'm digging out an old and unproductive cumquat tree to make room for either flowers and or vegetables. Hopefully that will get my heart rate up long enough to count as exercise.
Gorgeous day today in W.Va. so cleaned out a huge flower bed. Dug, pulled weeks, shoveled grass clods out, etc... steady worked for 45 min.on my end of the bed. My hubby did the other half. Anyway, I put "gardening" in to track my fitness. Guess what only something like 200 calories. Gotta be kidding!! My back hurts, my legs are cramping and my shoulder is screaming. LOL Oh well it had to be done regardless and I'll have pretty spring flowers which are all up now :) Pretty tulips,, iris and some other heritage flowers that we don't know really what they are.
