I went totally sugar-free for almost two years once - soing so helped me curb any sweet tooth tendencies I had entertained. Now I allow myself to have half a cup of Jell-O on occasion, Then, for a few days recently, I had 1/8 teaspoon brown sugar on my morning oatmeal - I soon put a stop to that added sugar & don't miss it.

I don't tell myself that I cannot have any sweets, I just prefer to forgo them.

God bless!

Well I have had three deserts while out but they did include fruit. Two were at a Tangi where you are waited on and the plates are put in front of you and it would be rude to not eat it. I have not had any cakes, biscuits, lollies, added sugar, or anything sweet so I feel I am doing well. I can't say I am liking it much. There is the odd day when I could really do with eating something like a muffin with an afternoon cuppa

Good for you! I am not a sugar user for the most part. I am an avid label reader & I am shocked as to the amount of sugars easp the "hidden sugars" in our foods. We need to remember that the carbs = sugar too.

Right back into it.
I have decided to really get back in to tracking and doing this properly for the start of June and hopefully I will start to see results again.

I know if I don't both to do the trackers I am not even accountable to myself. So Wish me luck

My eldest and I are going to do the no sugar for June.
She will be coming to visit on the last weekend of June so we will compare notes

I'm on day 3 of no caffeine! Hoping to alleviate headaches- a friend told me she'd given up caffeine 10 years ago and her headaches went away. Sounds great to me- I thought my headaches were from my sleeping habits (I work 3-4 nights a week and flip back to sleeping nights on days off). So far, no headache. The sugar fast may be next for me. emoticon

I think I'm making headway on eating less sugar. Although, If I counted the wine on Sunday and Margaritas on Monday with the family, I probably am not! emoticon

well yesterday got the best of me, I ate all the mini candy bars in my home, I couldn't believe I had them here as long as I did. Oh well, another lesson learned, don't think I will be getting a bag of those in the near future.

I had a friend visiting for the weekend and yesterday was the Annual Spring Festival and Auction where I work. I avoided the homemade pie and homemade ice cream, but did go for the fresh baked soft pretzel. I also "indulged" in a couple glasses of wine the last two evenings. Now it is back on the wagon until Friday when I leave on vacation. While gone I will try to be fairly good, but.....

Just got back from a 75 minute walk with the doggers!

Hi all~ emoticon I just started with SP recently, and REALLY like it! I found this team about Sugar Fast and wanted to share how my using Jorge Cruzs' plan amazingly reduces (almost eliminates) my sugar/carb cravings! When I have either, I will indulge in a little dark chocolate, almond butter and/or popcorn. They are my 'go to' for cravings. The little amount of fruits that fit in the plan, are blue/black & raspberries.

He calls it the "Belly Fat Cure". I like the easy point system counting sugar and carbs for the day - no calorie counting! (I've created a small easy excel list to fill in throughout the day to stay on track - will email to anyone interested emoticon

I fill up on healthy fats (avocado/olive oil/hemp hearts) along with vegs and protien. I LOVE my low carb fix of Ezekiel Sprouted Grain Tortillas. They are seriously filling - and I use the small ones!

If anyone would like to do this plan with me, I'm game and we could share what works!
Here is the site I jump to for some food inspiration: www.meandjorge.com/2010/06/what-i-ea

Here's to losing our sugar/carbo cravings and getting healthier!!!

todays sweet treat was a mc D ice crm cone. 150 cals and the end of it tastes like a sugar cookie, yum. Not much room for any more sweet cals , almost at 1000 already , only 500 to go for dinner. Oh life is good,.

I haven't been active on this site so I thought I'd check in and found this topic! I thought I was the only one that dreaded holidays b/c of the sweet snacks and chocolates that abound!
Mother's Day is coming up so I have to start trying to remind folks that I don't want any chocolate. It is nice to have a few pieces in the freezer for those moments when I just can't stand it any longer, but all in all, I'd rather not have it around.
If I have an attack, I get out a tablespoon and dip it into the Nestle Choco Chip bag and dine on a few chips. Usually once I see the fat content it stops me in my tracks.
I've been trying to eat as cleanly as possible.

Tonight was the final session (of 12 weeks) of Fit by Life offered by the local Health Dept. We learned about "Mindful Eating," "Keeping Active," Etc. It was well worth the time and money! I was so excited that I lost 21 pounds, brought my BMI down 4 points, and reduced by body fat 4%. I don't like "bragging" on myself, but just so pleased with the results. This is only the "beginning of the journey" to a more healthy life long life syle!

If I can do it -- anyone can do it!

well I went into abit of panic because I was really hungry after tennis, inbetween going to my mtg, I had only 2 dollars on me and went into the 7 eleven and looked for a snack that i could eat to keep me until my meeting snack time, they always have fruit.

I picked up the chz puffs, 2.5 servings, I knew I would eat them all! I did this with a few things, than found a mini pack of cookie for 50 cents and it was only 1 serv. I got those, 210 cals. When I got to my mtg it was a bday mtg and they had fresh brownies, I had 1/2 of one, so I raced home to put in my cals to see where I was, and ate a quick banana. Luckily I am under 700 so I have up to 800 for diiner. woohoo. My sweets are done for the day. off to make a big salad! Happy Tues all!

You are right - it really isn't as bad as I think it is in my mind!

Well, the month is pretty much over and all in all, I have done quite well.

Most of all, I have learned that I can go without sweets. I can go to the store and get just what is on my list, no extras. I can pass up a sweet treat, even though my husband is having one.

Lessons learned, one step at a time.

Roxy what I find helps me is tracking my spurts of sugar snacks. I always find I didn't do as much damage as imagined. My goal becomes to eat healthy around it to stay w/i cals. My cal limit is 1500 a day, and I can usually still make it, even if it's a big salad for dinner. Try it, it feels alot better than beating yourself up! Tomm you can always do better.

Remember girls we are gonna mess up, we are foodie friends, if we wern't we wouldn;t be on sparks in the first place. We sometimes need to give ourselves some slack, and work on making the best choice daily.

Todays sweets were a big hunk and a Mc D cone. Still w/i cals. woohoo!

Yesterday was a seriously bad day for me. I have been able to, during this entire month, rely on the tools that I have put together to help me eat good-for-me foods and not replace my meals with cookies, candy and such.

After I got back from an errand yesterday, right about noon, I got that 'I am hungry and I need to eat something right now' feeling. Instead of stopping and taking care of myself, I felt it was my duty to soldier on, it was chore day after all! I must get the chores done!

Then I started to get angry inside. Angry about a whole lot of things.

Instead of sitting down and sorting through this mess of mad inside of me, I opted to eat. It is a good thing that I don't have much for sweets in the house, but what little I did have are gone now.

And now, on top of still having the mad feelings inside, that of course the food didn't make go away, I have an upset tummy.

The good news is that I did learn something from yesterday.

Today I am going to spend the day sorting through this mess and work at mentally being nice to myself.

At least the chores are all done!

Well, it was half a serving and not 1/2 a scoop - lol. It was one scoop. They were doing huge portions!!!!! I did turn down cake at a reception last evening after a local choral concert. Didn't need the sugar and 9:30 was much too late to eat.

kat- no i dont' think benefit ice crm counts! teehee. Hey I am impressed, only 1/2 a scoop and you didn't figure out how to get another one or eat someone elses. Great job in my book! I bet that's the first time you ever only had 1/2 a scoop!

My sugar munchies is a 1/2 a cookie for bkfst and 2 licorice vines at the hockey game. The 1/2 a cookie is a miracle because I shared my cookie w/2 other people,. (usually I would just sneak eat it alone) and only 2 licorice vines is amazing because there were more and I only had 2! That's a first! I told my SIL, the only thing I want at the game is licorice and I know if I have one I will want 10 more, than 10 after that! only 2 woohoo!

I blew it today!!! I went to a benefit school auction and got a scoop of homemade ice cream. On the positive I told them to only give me half a portion, but...... Food purchased at a benefit doesn't count right???? Well maybe it does, but tomorrow is another day! First dessert I have had in 3 weeks!

Here it is, April 22nd and I have done a whole lot better than I thought I would at the first of the month.

I had my treat of ice cream and a glass of wine over the weekend.

I have lost a few pounds.

My next challenge for myself is starting to get back to my yoga and a bit of cardio.

Have the BEST day ever!

Yesterday,I had a few butterfinger choc easter eggs at a pot luck than said to myself "no wait for the cake" I had one pc, no seconds, that's really good for me, I wanted the biggest pc in the middle, instead I was handed the smallest from with 2 hard sides, in the past i would of found a way to trade that one out, this time I didn't i just thought to myself "I am lucky to be having cake".

Everyone is doing so well! Being aware in the conscious part of our brain is very important. Remember in the unconscious part of our brain there is an actual physical response to sugar similar to the same response we have to any addictive drug.

Well, I had my pre-planned weekend treat of ice cream. It didn't lead me into a large sugar binge.

Hi Roxy, everytime I have ever lost wt, I have had a sweet a day! When I am doing great it is "always" out of the house. (I have to drive to get it) this takes care of the want to get another and another etc.

As you can tell I am not doing so good right now. I have been living off to cuff, and I can feel it.To busy to care or take care of myself. Time to rethink that.

Yesterdays yums were hard noodles and swt and sour at Panda, and mini donuts for bkfst, I forgot my granola bar before tennis, opps, that was the only thing I wanted at the 7/11. Time to restock the car.

Sooo ... I have made an executive decision concerning my sugar fast. Randy (hubby) and I usually try, but fail miserably in keeping sweet treats to just the weekend.

My previous train of thought has been the all or nothing approach. If I get myself ice cream for the evening, I may as well go all out and eat a couple of bags of candy and cookies.

That behavior slips into one day, two days ... the rest of the week and I may as well start again on Monday.

This weekend, I am going to do something different ...

I am going to get myself a small container of ice cream for tonight.
I am going to enjoy it.
I am NOT going to beat myself up afterwards.
And I am NOT going to let a bit of ice cream lead me down a path of bingeing.

After all, that is mainly what I want. I want to enjoy all foods in moderation.

Have a GREAT weekend!

Good idea linda, today my sweets were a pudding cup, and pc of apple pie, plus a gbar w/choc on it. My goal is to not eat anything else until tomm. The good part is that I did not go back and get 2nds on any of it. Progress.

I am mid-way through day 10 and am feeling very good!

My husband pointed out this morning that I am almost to the halfway point.

With that thought in mind, when I finish today, I will be 1/3 done.

I am not going to turn back now!

Dorothy I related to you "Mini pity party" in the grocery store when not buying icecream and other sugar goodies... something that helped me was to go back over a few weeks grocery slips and wrote down the sugary items and their cost ...then averaged 4 weeks of that cost and said...OK I get to spend that much on good-for-me-foods.. Frozen berries was something that is expensive but less than icecream... some special vinegar for salads, some more fresh produce, some sugarless hard condy to suck on when I get real deperate in the office where i have always had cany as rewards for getting the family business book-keeping done. Hope that encourages you. Good on you for sticking to the healthy plan.

Well my reprieve from ice cream was short lived, had 3 cups today, but goodnews is that the girls are spending the night and it will be gone by the time the nights over. No more ice cream for awhile. Unless i drive and get a Mc D cone. That's my sweet plan of action.

Other than that been doing ok, ready to take a quick lil nap. Great day, but oh so tired!

Slowly the devious sugar has been working it's way back into my daily diet. It is using it's old standby logic "only a little" but as always the cycle starts. Just a little makes you feel so good, then it's gone and the stupid brain neurons scream "I want more" so I give in to the logic, just a little, and so it goes until soon it's everyday, sometimes more than once!
It is back to my logic now. Sugar Be Gone!

Today had part of a cinn roll w/hubs for bkfst, but good news we left 1/3 on the plate! Than shared Bisc and gravy, left 1/2 on the plate. Both those things are truly amazing for me!

Today that is the only sweet eaten, plan to eat a cup of ice cream, haven't had any for a few days. I have a rule that I do not eat anything but F&Vs' after 8, so I have a short time to have my ice crm or I will have to have it tomm! Doing really good!

Starting of day #6 and so far, so good.
Thank you, Lord Jesus!

Yesterday was a tough one - but I had a lightbulb moment. It was our grocery shopping day. We go about every two weeks and our routine (it is just my husband and I in the house) is to load up on a weekend's worth of ice cream for him, ice cream, cookies and candy for me.

I go all out.

I am not saying it wasn't hard.
I am not saying that I wasn't anxious, mad and frustrated.
I am not saying that I didn't have a mini-pity party for myself at the grocery store.

But ... I realized that deep down, I really didn't want the sugar-filled sweets. I found that it was more of a habit than anything else to buy them.

I hope that makes sense.

Good luck to all today!

Than he bought me more and for the first time in my life i have no interest in eating more today. now that's a miracle that has never happened before.

Todays sugar munchies were 1c ice crm for bkfst, and 2 serv pudding surprise at the party. getting better everyday. slowly but surely.

Good luck Grammaof16 ! ((16 grankids ??? WOW !!))

No worries about a late start date - better late than not at all.

Day #4 for me is going to be a tough one ...

... cloudy weather makes me sluggish ...
... an errand into town by myself will tempt me to buy a cookie ...
... after the cookie, I will decide that since I have 'blown it', I may as well go buy a bag of candy ... my irrational mind, after three days of sugarless struggle, tells me that I should have lost at least 10 pounds by now.

Well, at least y'all are honest.

I had to go to the grocery store and for once I stuck to my list - nothing extra! I even bought the man of my dreams ice cream.

Day #2 - a success, altho a bit of a nail-biter at times.

Here I go into day #3.

Fionna and Maci - You can do it.

Hi Roxy, great idea for the monthly challenge. Sugar Fast! love it, I don't think I will go completly sugar free, but I definately need to make it not such a huge part of my diet, so I am going to post what sugar treats I have each day, It will make me more accountable and make me think before I pop the next choc easter egg in my mouth. Who knows I may figure out I don't need them to live, and real ones might be a better choice! teehee.

Today I am sugar free! of course it's only 6:30am, teehee. I am going to do better today than I did yesterday. (the reeses eggs are gone and so is the cake so it should be much easier) now the goal is to keep the crap out! I can do it! You can do it! We all can do it!

Got thru day #1 without a problem. It probably helped that I came down with a head cold and had the luxury of getting some rest.

Day #2 will be a test as I need to hit the grocery store. This is where I run into temptation to buy a bag of candy.

Today, though, will be different and I resolve to just buy what is on my grocery list.

I'm in. Tomorrow I'm starting an eating plan that eliminates sugar. It adds 3 cups of vegetables, 2 fruits, 2 eggs, 1 cup of oatmeal, 1 whey protein shake, and 2 liters of water with fresh squeezed lemon. You can eat whatever else you want for two weeks. Also 20 minutes of aerobic interval training 5 days per week. So count me in.

I have been limiting myself on sugar for the last couple months. But..... this weekend I had company and had a couple Thin Mints and a couple pieces of angle food cake with real whipped topping. Company is gone and the cake is going to work tomorrow for someone else to eat. I haven't had any pop during that time either.

It is not always easy, but I keep trying!

Valentine's Day - done
Easter - done
If I am thinking correctly, we have until October before another sugar-filled holiday is upon us. Well, maybe September as that is when the goodies for Halloween will show up in the stores.

I am going on an all things candy, cookies and ice cream fast for the month of April. Anybody interested in doing the same thing and working together in this?

It has nothing to do with losing weight (although if 10 - 15 pounds mysteriously slipped away, I wouldn't be heartbroken).

It has more to do with removing sugar as the center of my life and as my main food group. Maybe even do some exercise. Who knows ?!?
