I have more success at drinking small amounts poured into an 8 ounce glass throughout the day. I don't like water very much, so this is easier to manage for me.

We are on the same mission. I've been very focused and vigilant about getting 8 glasses of water or seltzer in everyday (for about 3 days). I've come to realize that it doesn't happen by accident and I have to be very mindful about drinking water throughout a busy work day.
Good luck!! We can do this!!

I'm terrible at drinking water. Seems like I forget to drink. Getting me a water bottle and keeping it with me sounds like a winner. emoticon Mumsey5 for the idea.

I have bought myself a really nice water bottle and have measured how much it holds. I need to drink two of them a day to get my quoter in and so I fill it and have it with me all the time.
I find that is the best way and I am normally ready to refill it by lunch time and so by bed time its empty for the second time and so I know I have had my fill - if not even more

Drinking water is a habit for me now. I drink a large glass when I wake up, two glasses before each meal and then a bottle water during or after exercise.

Remember to take time to enjoy the journey!

Brenda, thanks for your post. I eat very little salt and am drinking a lot more water. Must be more careful.

I always have water one me. I keep bottles in the car and even a bottle in my purse. If I get thirsty I don't allow myself to buy a diet coke but drink the water I have on hand. I love how water feels going down, so refreshing. I live in a warm climate so that helps. I can't stand faucet water and only like store bought water. If you don't want to spend on bottled water, try getting a filter for your home that will help the taste.

I would also suggest freezing lime juice ice cubes or lemon juice that you squeeze yourself and putting it in the glass for added flavor.

Good Luck!

Just read the message below about too much water and I agree with that. I am a big water drinker because I am active in a warm climate. Never force water down if you feel like you are going to explode if you take one more gulp as if can be dangerous. Just listen to your body for what it needs.

I was drinking mass amounts of water daily because my brain thinks if a lot is good, more is better. My ankles were always swollen and couldn't figure out why. Well one afternoon my chest started pounding and I thought I was having a heart attack so called 911 and the ambulance whisked me away to the ER. What happened was that I was drinking too much water and washed all the sodium and potassium out of my body (electrolytes). So now I am careful not to do that and haven't had a problem since. I usually drink two 22 oz bottles plus my coffee and that works for me. My ankles haven't swollen since.

I do carry a water bottle with me to sip on.

Happy journey.

Just putting up this post and having all of you respond with such great ideas has inspired me to be more aware. It's only 1:00 in the afternoon - and I've downed 5 glasses of water/seltzer!
Thanks so much!

The main help for me has just been to have water around me at all times. Always have a water bottle close by. Plus a good , sweaty workout will always make you drink more! I love Crystal Lite flavors, but pick a flavor you like and have at it--it makes water less boring and not such a chore. Good Luck!! emoticon

I had the same issue with water. Why do I want to drink something that has no taste... No fun for me. So someone told to always carry a bottle with me... No matter what. Even if I thought I wasn't going to drink it, if I needed something to drink...the water was there. It took a while but now I need my water bottle as I need my keys or glasses. It's just become part of what I do. Good luck!

If you don't like the taste, you can add a bit of flavor; I use lemon juice and stevia, or a squirt of diet cranberry cocktail. I bought some aloe vera juice to add also, but I haven't tried it yet. Or find a brand of bottled water that you like (some taste better than others). Or experiment with temperature: you might prefer hot, warm, or cold water, or lots of ice cubes. Also very important to me is pretty glasses! In my case, this means wine glasses from the dollar store. They make me feel like I'm drinking something nice. I go through loads of (flavored) water without even trying. I used to drink good bottled water but can't afford it now.
If it's a matter of not developing the habit, use "cues," e.g., before/during/after a meal, exercise, watching TV, working, commuting, etc. As other posters have indicated, it will soon become a habit.
Good luck,
Laurie

I didn't always drink enough water. What works for me is filling four reusable 16 oz bottles each morning. I drink one before leaving in the morning. Two go in an insulated lunch bag. I drank one before noon and one after noon. I drink the last one sometime after I get home. It didn't take long before it became a habit and I really wanted water at specific times during the day.

I keep a large Brita full of water in my frig and plenty of lemons on hand. I prefer cool water with the lemon which gives it a freshness and isn't as boring to drink so it made it easier to get in the habit because it tastes refreshing. If you're out and about, keep a container of water with you at all times. It takes at least a couple of weeks to get in the habit. After that, it becomes second nature, and you'll remember with no problem.

Does anyone have any tips to share that will help me drink 8 glasses of water per day? I've made this one of my goals, but am finding it very difficult to do. I keep forgetting that I need to drink water throughout the day.

Thanks!
Sharon
