MICHELE

Seems like we keep posting at the same time. Have missed you, so came back on to tell you hello.

It is cold and nasty here too. We are supposed to get warmer weather in a few days, so I am keeping my fingers crossed. This has been a very mild winter for the most part, but it has just been so darn long!

Have a great day, hope you get some sunshine today

Welcome, sounds as though you live in a lovely place. Glad to have you with us.

Thank you for the kudos on my new stationary bike. I am very happy with it. I did 25 minutes yesterday and 25 minutes today. Have been using my inversion table and doing those exercises too. Also danced a bit with Ellee and Gracee today.

It is Easter break for the kids, so I was out there all day today. Came home and fixed some food for dinner and put a bunch of veggies, potatoes and pork loin in the crock pot. Should be good for tomorrow.

Ellee is coming home with me tomorrow night to spend the night. Gracee is going to spend the night with her friend, so Ellee and I will have some alone time. We will go back out to their house about 2:30pm. I will have Max and Brielle when Ang goes to teach her aerobics class. Then when Gracee comes home, will be all 4 of them.

Will be nice to be together. I bought all four of them big bottles of bubbles, and each family new sidewalk chalk. It was cold and damp today, but Ellee and Gracee still went out for about 45 minutes this afternoon to play with bubbles and the chalk. They both wrote notes on the sidewalk to me saying "I love you Aunt Bonnie".

Getting late, so am going to stop now.

God Bless my friends and have a great week. Mine will be very busy, but good.

Willobee, welcome from me, too! Glad you have joined us

Brenda you are such a good friend to E. I agree that you should not worry too much about here as there isn't much you can really do except be there for her.

Bonnie, when I was doing rehab for my back, I always had to ride one of those bikes. I just recently had to throw out my bike at home as it finally broke. BUt I loved it.

Maci, how is your new car? What happened to your previous one? I haven'T been posting for 3 days, & now I am behind on everything that all of you are doing!

It is rainy & cold here, seems like winter has returned. I had put away all the winter coats only to have to take them out again!

have a good Wednesday, all!

Dale,

You are so right about Elinor's hoarding. I know deep down it will always be that way. She wants to unpack but there is no place to put the stuff. She is finding things that should not have come here but blames her family for bringing it but it wasn't their fault. She is, however re- packing things to go to family members but whether they get there is another story. Her daughter came to help her yesterday but she had been up all night and was too tired. I got phone numbers from her daughter in case I need to call them. She is slipping fast and her anxiety is high. Carol, her daughter, told me Elinor just wanted to visit so they did.

I went down to our Council meeting at 1, then we had our monthly birthday party and I thought I would be scooping ice cream but it was drumstick ice cream cones instead. No one has a birthday this month but we had the treats anyway. Elinor came down just as it was over so got to meet some of the residents. Then we came to my place and I called the phone company to change her service and then we went to the light company to transfer that to here. She was unable to do that, much less drive her car. Janie, my second floor neighbor, made us a spaghetti dinner and it was really good. She loves to cook and is always taking food to someone.

Anyway, I am not going to worry about Elinor and her apartment. I will just be her friend.

It was so nice yesterday with the sun warming everything up. I didn't even have to wear a coat outside. The rainstorm that was supposed to begin last Saturday didn't happen.

emoticon WILLOBEE,

You have joined a great group so jump in whenever you have time. We love meeting new members.

Sammi,
This is a wonderful little place to visit...my first visit was a little over 6yrs ago and we loved it so much..we packed up and moved down here 4 months later..no jobs, nothing!! lol
Thankfully, all worked out and we're now part of the 'island family.'

PT,
I've yet to visit Rehobeth....Hubby is content staying on 'our island' during the summer..I'm working on him for a day trip up there!!! Enjoy your walk!!!

Good Morning All,
The sun has FINALLY made an appearance, and it looks like dry conditions are in store for the next few days...hopefully we'll start drying out! Looking foward to getting outside and cleaning up the debrise and mess that the winter storms have left in the yard!!! Have a beautiful day!!!

SAMMI,
Your presence on this thread is always an upper. It's like you're spreading your good vibes around, so keep it up. Write more often. How's your husband doing right now? Are you guys going out to enjoy any cultural events or other excursions?

WILLOWBEE,
I used to go to Rehobeth Beach, Delaware every year to a cousins' second home which lies next to their state park. Walking that marshy area is such a treat and we are always on the lookout for the various bird populations.

BRENDA,
Your new neighbor's hoarding will never end. When my paternal grandparents moved from their inner city row house to one in the county, my father worked very hard to sell off their stuff. These people had furniture piled on top of furniture. Anyway, though the new place didn't do that, the piles all resurfaced because that's just what my grandmother did. It might be best for you to try and stay out of her space.

SUNNY,
You and SAMMI love Boars Head products. For 2 1/2 years my son lived across the street from one of their shipping plants, so their trucks were parked all over the lot. I've stayed away from deli meats myself and get my cheeses in all different places but I know they have an excellent reputation.

MACI,
How's your new car? Is it too new to tell? What happened to the one you had? It's great that you are able to use the Alanon principals with your SIL. The steps and traditions help with all kinds of relationships, that's for sure.

We still have snow on the ground from yesterday but it will melt later today. Our forecast is very good, warming up some each day of the week. That's refreshing news. I think I'll walk once around Wilde Lake without Oliver today because his little body would mop up melting snow and make him dirty. His fur is like the cotton we take our fingernail polish off with!

Enjoy your Tuesday,
Dale

Good Morning Sparklers --- chilly morning here --- sun is coming out and it's a yoga day.

Sunny, I only have the Boarshead once or twice a week --- I use the cute little round whole wheat bread slices. Just the right size for me. Usually either the turkey or chicken.

Willowbee, I've always wanted to visit that area. I was born in D.C. and lived in Maryland for a few years and Virginia for a few months. There are lots of nature trails and places to go in our area. Crystal River is a lovely little town and there is no shortage of critters. No wild ponies unfortunately.

Have a wonderful day Spark Friends, Sammi emoticon

Willowbee,
I went to that festival once, at least 35 years ago or more! We even bought a buffle headed drake decoy. Maybe I'm spelling it wrong but I learned what that duck looks like and was gleeful when one came to our local lake years later. That's the full extent of my duck knowledge.

160.5 (my weight has been steady holding the same number)
175 minutes exercise (for the week)

My son (Nate) came by last night to watch the three Showtime series with me that we love. We were hanging out on my bed eating melba rounds with peanut butter on them. Then this morning he shared a cup of coffee with me before heading back into the city. I love having face to face time with him!

SNOW.
I finally woke up to some, and it is pretty to look at from here yet slushy in the street. The forecast is supposed to turn to rain and stay cold all day which means we may have some ice issues this evening. I'm hoping the roads will be fine. Tonight is PASSOVER and we're invited to my Baltimore cousins' house for the Seder meal. But Mom is not feeling well today plus she has a crown that came off, so we have to just take it one hour at a time. Nate finally committed to come to the Seder for a couple of hours before picking up his friend at the airport. Sharon is working from home today. Everything is sort of out of order, and flexibility is the key.

For anyone who doesn't know what Passover is, it is the story of the exodus of the Jewish people from Egypt (Moses's story) and happened to have been Christ's last supper. Throughout the Seder meal the story is retold and there are symbolic food items there to represent various aspects of the story. Oppression to freedom!

OLIVER's finally got his opportunity to go out. I hate having him walk on that darn salt they throw but what can I do. I leave tonight around 5pm which means he'll have to go out again before then, and finally at night once I get home. That's not so bad; he's easy enough to take care of. Just a big mouth barker all the time with lots to say.

BONNIE,
Congratulations on your new bike! They are fabulous, and if the one you have at home is even better than the one at the gym, how terrific.

Today Sharon stayed home from work and instead is working from the dining room which means that I can't put on music or the TV for myself. Usually by mid or late afternoon I take a break from whatever I've been doing (which is often here at the computer) to watch something. It's not like I have a lack of options to fill my time though. Cleaning Anything would be a good idea.

Stay dry,
Dale

Bonnie,

Yay for the new bike. What fun! I am loving my fitbit and finding I am walking two miles a day just inside our building. Been busy helping Elinor with her empty boxes but letting her do the unpacking. She still has clothes and the refrigerator food to bring over plus go to the light company to switch her lights to here plus call the phone company. Myself, I would have had all that stuff done before hand but that is me.

Our rain has passed but it is still in the 30's at night.

Have a good day everyone. I'm off to our Monday morning coffee with Jill downstairs. I should probably get dressed first. LoL

Sounds like a great week, yea!

SUNNY

Glad to know you enjoyed your vaca! You will get those 4 pounds off quickly now.

SAMMI

I have been doing several different aerobic machines at the gym, including the bike, but have been switching up on everything so not as much with the bike.

I like my new bike much better than the ones at the gym, so am really looking forward to enjoying it a lot, and really strengthening my knees and back even more.

I am with you , would just like to pretend there is not snow and cold and wind out there. Have to go out for an hour or so, but I don't think I will be out long. So very tired of winter.

Have a great week my friends. God Bless.

Good Morning Sparklers! Our cold front arrives today -- it was lovely yesterday. Was really windy during the morning, strong storms missed us and went to Orlando. It was muggy and warm.

Bonnie, congrats on the recumbent bike, I'm anxious to hear how you like it. I usually just go at my own pace for the first 20 or 30 minutes and then set one of the timed workouts at the end. Don't always finish. I used to do it three times a week, but now that I'm doing yoga and walking it's only once or twice a week.

Sunny, happy to hear you enjoyed your vacation.

Does anyone else love the Boarshead deli meats and cheeses. I try to stick with the heart healthy ones. Love their low sodium munster cheese.

Hope everyone has a great week. Sammi emoticon

Hi ladies, what a great wkend!
Today(Sun) went to church w/friends, bkfst afterwards, and my brother was there. what a great surprise. Than hubs and I went to a movie marathon, saw Back to Oz, 3D. It was great. Idenity theft, and the Croons.(a disney 3D movie) fun.

Yesterday (Sat) had a dinner party w/3other couples, Made Steaks and Cakes! Everyone brought something. Our margarita girl brought us a huge Anniv cup to share (2 ft high) , but I have to say, I did drink it all, it's been along time since I drank more than one margaita. Technically I only had one! teehee. We played pingpong, apples to apples and true colors, we all laughed so hard i am sure the neighbors were more than a bit curious!

Fri- Tennis and lunch w/friends, stayed home , babysat Baby John and enjoyed the quiet at night! Hubs scrubbed the house for me, It looks great!

This wk playing M, T, W, and Friday, no league matches, all fun playdays. They are all still tough matches though. My friends and I are extremely competive w/each other.

12 step work, has really helped me w/my AJ (angry Jerk SIL) problems. I think the thing that works the most is not only the Alanon meeting I go on Tues, but all the journaling I do now, I have already filled a spiral notebook. Everytime I even start to feel the least bit frustrated, or irritated, I write till that time passes. I am much happier. While writing I think to myself, get back to balance Maci! It works.

Good luck ladies w/all your fitbits, they sound like a great tool. Well, gonna go get in some snuggle time w/hubs, I can hear his singing in the liv room, he is watching a documentry on the Eagles. so cute. Hope you all had nice wkends. ~maci~

Bonnie,
Thought you might be curious to listen in on this free series. I don't know if the links will work here on sparks but I can forward the email to you if interested. Here goes nothing:

A spiritual approach to losing weight?

From
Stephen Dinan - The Shift Network

To
rcvrygaldale@yahoo.com

Dear Dale,

You've heard the saying that everything has a spiritual solution?

Well how about weight loss, the #1 health and well being challenge for people in the United States and much of the developed world. What might the solution there be?

As it turns out, a truly holistic approach is best, one that deals with body, nutrition, emotions, mind, and soul. Food is not just physical sustenance; it connects with every level of our being. So when we're out of balance with food, there are imbalances elsewhere and if we don't address those, issues with weight often return.

The good news is that our friends and allies at Sacred Media have brought together the world's leading experts such as Marianne Williamson (A Course In We*ght Loss), Dr. Gabriel Cousens (Spiritual Nutrition), Donna Gates (The Body Ecology Diet) and David Wolfe (Superfood Nutrition), to share their wisdom on how we can successfully lose unwanted weight in a way that doesn't put ourselves into battle with parts of ourselves but rather uses a combination of love, discipline, psychological and spiritual inquiry, and good nutrition principles to get us on the path to radiant health.

What I love about the Holistic We*ght Loss World Summit is that it's not based on guilt or "bootcamp" discipline. It's truly about a sacred, holistic, and loving way to align our physical bodies with our souls. It's about finding our true physical expression and addressing the ways that we've developed unhealthy relationships with food.

It's thus really about seeing our relationship with our bodies and our weight as part of our spiritual path.

When I was first invited to share about the Holistic We*ght Loss Summit, I was skeptical of whether it would be aligned with our work on the Shift. But as I learned more, I recognized that the Shift is ultimate about our divine embodiment, and with such a high percentage of people on yo-yo swings with weight and food and feeling so much self-judgment and frustration around the subject, it's clear that a compassionate, scientific, and sacred approach could help bring sanity and love into an area of great pain.

I thus realized it's a great honor to be able to connect people with resources that help them fulfill their vision for their bodies and their relationship with food that feels true, deep, and aligned.

You can read more about it and sign up here: 2013 Holistic We*ght Loss Summit

Please feel free to pass along this message to others who might benefit from the free wisdom shared in this Summit!

The organ concert I went to with Scott yesterday afternoon (his interest not mine) was interesting because it was also a lecture that included lots of information which helped string the pieces together. Just the organist began in the first half but by the second half the concert included a large choir and full orchestra.

The Pathways movie we went to afterward in someone's home was about Para Normal Science. It was interesting but felt too long for me. I was ready to book out of there as soon as it was over while the rest of the group was happy to discuss the film and share in snacks.

I walked a total of 175 minutes this past week, and hope to start out this week by going again today. At the moment all I can think of is what to eat in addition to the small breakfast I've had. Last night food was big on my mind, too. I think I'm avoiding cooking (or shopping) and have been just foraging on nights I don't go out.

Last cup of coffee awaits,
Dale

Michele,

The fitbit counts the steps and calories burned plus activity level. You just have to clip it on or put it in your pocket and wear it all day. Can also log your BP, ect., food and whatever else. I just bought the $59 one but the more expensive ones monitor heart rates and sleep. It was a little hard setting it up but I have it handled now. It is wireless so the computer reads the fitbit and makes a chart to read. The directions say it doesn't like to be dropped in the toilet or run through the washing machine. LOL

Bonnie,

Elinor's family moved all her stuff in yesterday. All I had to do was tell them where she wanted the furniture and shelves. Elinor called me and said she wouldn't be coming over until later. It turns out she is a hoarder. I really didn't know it because I hardly ever went in her apartment at the other place. I just thought she hadn't cleaned yet. Her daughter told me she has been this way most of her life. I had told her initially she needed to throw out/give away her magazines but nope, she had me put them in boxes. I only helped her pack that one day because I could not deal with it. Her apartment here
is wall to wall boxes and the closets are bursting. She has to go through all them but I don't plan to help her. Her family said they will be trying to sort out stuff. She won't let go. She finally got here about 7 last night and I gave her a bowl of soup for dinner. She had a cold pizza but decided the soup would be better. Anyway she is very happy to be here and loves her apartment. I just hope she can reach her vision of having a beautifully decorated uncluttered apartment. Myself, I don't think it will happen. Her granddaughter told me that it is possible. We shall see...................When she arrived in the states from Canada, all she had was a suitcase and her little girl.

Regarding Joice's grouchy dog, yes she does have a vet for him and takes him regularly. For some reason he has become too protective of her. He doesn't like anyone touching her wheelchair.

Yesterday I gave a way a big plastic tote full of mostly cotton fabric. Maria, down the hall told me she is making a quilt for her daughter's 50th birthday in six months and is using fabric she has. So I told her to come and look through mine then just told her to take it all home and bring me back the empty tote, which she did. I have been hauling it around for six years now so it was time for it to go. That amazed me that I did that but decided I really wasn't going to use it so no sense keeping it anymore.

I woke up at three this morning and finally got up just before 5. I guess four hours of sleep was enough. We were supposed to have heavy rain all day yesterday but the sun came out and it actually got hot. I hope it stays this way.

It's a muggy, breezy morning which is going to turn into a stormy, cool afternoon. I'm going to enjoy the warm part while it lasts. The coming week will be unseasonably cool. I have plants to plant and can't. Crazy weather!

Got on the scale Friday thinking I'd picked up a pound or more --- happy to see I did not. Most wonderful. I just felt like with the weather being so hot and cold I was eating more. If I have a larger then usual lunch I try to have a light dinner. Guess it worked.

Don't forget to count your blessings. Have a good day Spark friends, Sammi emoticon

everyone sounds so busy. Brenda enjoy your fizbit. I move around so much---walking, riding my bike, etc. I don't think I could record all the steps I would be taking! LOL!

Fiona good for you for moving. Any way that one can move their body is better than no movement at all!

Bonnie, glad you enjoyed your sun Is it warming up any for you?

Maci, great tennis! Congrats. on your anniv. What is your tennis schedule like this week?

Today is just a relaxing day, having DH home for a change instead of working.

Will be going back to the pool again tomorrow.

BRENDA AND DALE

You go girls with your fitbits and your technology. Good for you both. Dale, hope they get you a new one quickly.

Brenda, good luck with your friend's move and helping her. Just remember to take care of you as well.

DALE

Hope you did the things you were thinking about doing today, and that they were very enjoyable.

We had more sun than I thought we were gong to today. Got a walk in the sun, went to Target and shopped and walked around a lot to get in a bit more walking. Sat on my back deck with a book in the sun for an hour or so later this afternoon. A bit chilly, but my deck is kind of enclosed as I have about 10 ft high and 12 feet back to the pool very small resin lattice work built in to frames on either side of the deck. It provides privacy and some shate in the summer, and a bit of a wind block the rest of the year.

Did go to my cousin's rehab room and spent a couple of hours with the family early in the day.

Did better with the food today. Did not eat compulsively. You are right Dale about the twelve steps, and I also have to work on getting rid of the negative thoughts and emotions and replace them with positives. I did very well with that for several years, so I know that it is a big help to me, but the last couple of years, my mind seems to just get jumbled up . Crazy me!

This site, and my friends here, are what keep me going. I am having a lot of difficulty, but without all of you, I would have gained all of my weight back, and would probably not be able to walk by now. I have to remember what I have accomplished and made a lot of changes over the years. It is a struggle to keep the negatives out, but I am not giving up. I am down, but I will get back up.

I am not giving up, so that is a positive right there!

I am very happy that my knees and my back are getting so much stronger from the exercise, so that is very helpful.

One day at a time, I have to work on not allowing myself to become so overwhelmed.

God Bless and have a great Sunday Thanks for being here

Dale,

I am still working on getting everything logged in on the fitbit. Haven't been tracking my food so need to start doing that again. Basically I lost a half pound yesterday, did 5000 steps and won my first badge. I am amazed that I was able to follow the instructions and get it set up as I am not too computer savvy for the technical things. Getting better as I go.

Cold and cloudy so far this morning so who knows what the weather will do. My chicken soup is smelling really good and the only thing in the pot is chicken stock and two hindquarters. I thought I had breasts but the dark meat will work as well. The movers (her family) will be here around 4. She still has mass amounts of packing to do. I tried to help her but it was beyond me as her family hadn't shown up to take things away that she doesn't want/have room for so I felt like I was spinning my wheels. I will help her unpack.I told her when she put her application in to start sorting but she never got around to it as she thought she had until June. We never know what will happen to the residents as most are in their mid 80's and 90's. Elinor is 83 and is somewhat of a whiner because her family is too busy all the time.

The day I came here to get an application I went home and started packing, sorting, tossing, sending to auction because I knew I would be moving in here. I have to remember that everyone isn't like me. I tend to go for it and work myself sick, which I did.

MACI, I didn't go to the Yappy Hour after all yesterday. I felt chilled all day and just not up to getting dressed. The group is a dog walking group so the dogs all get along just fine. No fighting whatsoever. That's the point.

BONNIE, Your day yesterday sounded lovely. One thing that helped me move my energy better back when I had therapy was to apply the 12 step program to my affairs, which helps me in the food indulging category. Since you're familiar with this work perhaps you would be willing to go to some meetings. I find that the group environment is a great compliment to private work.

BRENDA, how nice of you to make a pot of soup for the movers! Who else besides me and NUTRON uses a fitbit? We ought to report what we accomplish at each posting like I do with my scale readings each day.

I wanted to sleep in since Sharon woke me yesterday from a deep slumber, but the cat has other plans for me, to feed him. It's just as well. I stay up late at night and watch mindless TV lately. Between the computer use and TV I'd say I'm twittering my time away.

At least I've scheduled walking today to make up my minutes for the week. And Scott wants to go to an organ concert this afternoon. I'm not so sure that I want to join him since it's not my thing. We have a movie with Pathways group tonight, so maybe I'll be a sport and go to both just because. (The colder weather has depressed me a little bit so I begged off going anywhere yesterday. Today I think it would be healthier to make a different reality. I'm fairly certain that I'll feel better doing activities to raise my energy level.)

(Edit: Sorry, I've just checked and see that this next paragraph is redundant info.) Did I write to you about the FitBit fiasco? That it's been malfunctioning, so my son worked on problem solving for me to reset it, but it couldn't be corrected? I'm waiting now for them to ship me a free replacement gadget.

I may not make 10,000 steps very often but watching how many I do or don't walk has been very informative. It's because of the FitBit that I got into doing those double walks around Wilde Lake!

I was very frustrated yesterday with the computer because Facebook was malfunctioning. I couldn't make any comments on emails from there. Finally, I figured out that it was only a problem on my Firefox connection, that I could access it from Safari and also from my iPhone. Firefox was SO SLOW yesterday! This morning I get the announcement that Firefox had crashed. Getting it back up I find that the computer speed is back to normal AND there's no longer any issue connecting to Facebook from it.

Being able to problem solve anything on a computer is really amazing to me. I'm such a slow learner when it comes to these things. But I do feel I've been making progress, thanks to my son's help. But enough about aggravations. They're small issues in the scheme of things.

Time for a coffee refill. It's noon here now. Enjoy your Saturday,
Dale

Had a good day yesterday. Out in the sun, took a little walk, took a little bike ride, Scotty has to fix the seat before I can ride it again, it won't stay up and it moves from side to side, sat in the sun to read had a nice visit with my aunt and uncle.

Last night I went to the theater to usher, and then see the show. It was very good, had friends in it, and had a good night.

Today am going to meet some other family members at my cousin Barb's rehab center.

She has had knee surgery.

Doing ok, still have a very bad time with food, but I am able to get more exercise and hopefully the food will fall back into place.

I really am pretty sure that the problem is the work I am doing with the psychologist. I am very resistant to coping with anything but food. I wish I could just say, ok, this makes sense, I will do these other things when I am emotionally overwhelmed. Well, I do the other things, and I feel some better, but then I still eat.

My mind is a very dangerous place!

God Bless and have a great day my friends.

Yep, I love my fitbit zip. I already won my first badge for 5000 steps! emoticon and I lost a half pound! This is going to work out fine. Another obsession for me to play with.

Our weather is just crazy. I went to the food bank yesterday afternoon and just as soon as I pulled in to the parking space the skies opened up and it hailed. I could see the angry black clouds ahead of me on the way. Thursday it was windy, rainy and then it snowed really hard for about a half hour, then it stopped. Nights have been down to freezing. More rain today and my friend is moving in down the hall from me. We were hoping for dry weather. Her family is renting a U-Haul truck.

I found a beautiful white wicker over the toilet cabinet yesterday so got that installed and it is so nice. It was only $30. I have been looking for one. My friend has a space where she sells stuff 5 days a week and will take things on consignment and charges 30% commission to help pay the space rent. I might take some of my stuff there to sell.

Well, I am going to make a pot of soup to feed the movers. Probably chicken vegetable.

Have a good day everyone. Will no doubt check back later.

I got my fitbit pretty much set up, at least it is tracking on my laptop. Way cool! I missed the step where I put my greeting on it so will figure that out later. Am going to the food bank as soon as I finish my very late breakfast.

Yappy Hr? to funny! You will have to tell us how it goes, I see all the dogs growling at each other. Hardly a place to relax and drink wine!

I always say the saying to everyone. "you never have to clean if you put things back where they go" or "you don't have to clean things you don't mess up" that is probably why others believe my home is always clean. If they looked under my bed the dust bunnies would scare them! teehee.

Technology completly baffles me too! I can email, and I surprise myself alot when I try things on the net and they actually work, like getting directions! I am shocked I can do as many things on sparks as i can. Photos are my biggest conquest. I just can't seem to know how to get them out of the camera, when my hubs puts them on a disk or in the computer, i can't remember how to find them or make the disk work. Thank god he knows how. Problem is he is held hostage for me to do anything w/photos. The things we do for love!

Won 2 of 3 matches today, 3rd one was a tiebrker, so it was a tough fun day of tennis. than off to costco/lunch. Now home to get ready for the gkids after school. Taking Addie/Leah to tennis class after school. They love it! I send them to tennis day camp every summer for a wk. Tonight gonna watch Lil John while Em works.

Tomm decided to have a inprombtu dinner/game party w/4 of my closest tennis friends and their hubs. Making Steaks and Cakes. I'm supplying the stks, everyone else is filling in the rest. Off to clean the house.

160.

Brenda,
I have a FitBit that Scott bought for me as a birthday present last October. It started malfunctioning and my son helped me research every detail of how to reset it but it didn't work. I couldn't find live contact information on them but he did and so I left a phone msg. They called back same day and will send me a replacement. That's great. The model I bought is discontinued. Get someone to help you if you can't follow the set up steps by yourself, but probably you can.

Bonnie,
It's like lifting the hand weights. They're right there but I can't pick them up. lol The single pile or box is right there and I can't pick it up. I fantasize them just disappearing instead of me having to do anything to make it so.

The work my son did on the computer for me was great but I'm left with two weird problems that he says he has no idea about. I think he's just tired of working on my stuff with all his own business to deal with. My email addresses aren't opening up for me when I want to write to someone. Instead, it opens a blank Facebook contact screen. Go figure. I've never had a contact list for Facebook and have no idea why it would open inside my yahoo email page either... Also, when I get a Facebook email, I can read it but it won't open the comment button for me to be able to write anything about that post. The two problems are probably intertwined but I'm certainly not the one to be able to problem solve it... sigh

OMG. I forgot to take Oliver out this morning! It was of 2pm when I did!!! That's never happened before. The computer has my mind quite preoccupied. All of a sudden I feel addicted to using it all the time. That must have sneaked up on me because I am on most every day for hours now.

This weekend is very light on activity. I'm considering trying something called a Yappy Hour. Once a month a wine cellar has a happy hour that includes dogs. I have to investigate if it's indoors though because today is too cold to be hanging outside. Tomorrow night there is a house movie my group Pathways is sponsoring. I'll go just to see those folks and get out of the house... It might just be a good weekend to do some reading.

Enjoy the rest of your day,
Dale

Bonnie,

I have no idea where I saw Fiona's post about another message room but there were only a few messages from the first few days of March that I hadn't read before. That's why I think/thought we had two. Maybe I dreamed it. DUH

As far as keeping organized. I usually put things away after I use them because if I don't put them where they belong, I can't find them again. I hate it when I move something and put it where ' I know where it is' and then spend half the day looking for it. I don't like clutter but I have a lot of little dolls and figurines on shelves in groups so I can look at them. It's my 'stuff'. My stove top is like new. If I spill something in the burner rings, I wash it off immediately because I don't like having to scrub them. I don't understand how anyone can keep cooking on a dirty burner ring. I see it in just about everyone's kitchens. This stove is 17 years old and has been well cared for. I am next on the list to get a new stove as soon as funds are released. Now we can get a self-cleaning oven so I will ask for one.

Junk mail does not make it to my apartment. There is a waste basket by the mail boxes. I have stopped saving old bills. They go through the shredder as soon as they are paid. A couple bills are paperless, meaning I see them on line and pay them that way.

So basically, just keep things neat and put away and then you can just blow the dust off the tables and shelves. LoL

My big procrastination is my digital camera that I bought almost three years ago. I still haven't read the instructions how to get the pictures out of the camera and posting them. It is not a priority because I am too busy playing Jewel Quest. I bought a new cell phone a couple months ago but have yet to set it up. Now I have the new fitbit zip and have to go on line to see how to set it up. I wonder how long it will take me to get around to that? I still don't really know how my Kindle Fire works. I can do a few things on it.

I am an Aries and we are known to not finish projects but go on to a new one because it is more interesting. I have many UFO's (unfinished objects) that need attention.

So we all have our quirks. So do what makes you happy and don't worry about the rest.

Glad you had a good tennis week! Sounds like great exercise and great fun.

Congratulations on your Anniversary. God Bless

About the Yorkie, this is probably redundant, but have you taken him to the vet? Not sure how long this has been going on, but what about a urinary tract infection? Just brainstorming.

Hi ladies! Yes it's 4:30am! Weds was my bday , and Thurs was my 26th Anniversary! Finally finding the time to post. Didn't do much for our anniv but watch gbabies and a movie. We did it together and that was fun. Hubs is always so good w/the babies. He swears they love him more. (I don't think so! teehee)

Thanks for all the great B-day wishes! I felt very lucky this bday, lots of friends and family wishing me happy Bday. I remember in the past one b-day when hubs was in Iraq and I felt so alone, my co workers bought me a cake and I felt so lucky that someone thought of me. I have learned to call whomever I want to hear happy bday/mothers day/merry christmas etc. from and tell them, "Hi, wanted to hear from you today!" that way I get to start my day exactly how i want it! You girls jumped to the occasion, Love it!

Pups- My pup has babie issues! Everytime my gbaby, or anyother baby comes into our home, my yorkie cannot keep his nose away from the baby. He hovers over us on the top of the couch, crying. Very emotionally needy! or jealous? He won't leave the babies side.Luckily he is only 10 pds. teehee,.

I have to say as sad/mean/ugly as this sounds, I am at wits end to what to do about my yorki peeing in my home. I thought It has stopped, because he quit peeing in his usual places, (I got on him really bad, by scolding him and putting him out everytime, and spraying neutralizer and scrubbing every place he had ever pee'd) than one day i realized, my den had a pee smell and found out our newest throw rug was the culprit. When I took the rug out to clean it, it all started again. grrrrr. I have to say, I don't think I would have him here if I lived alone. It's just so hard to let a pup go when you have raised him for so many yrs. He is 7. but sometimes I fantisize about it. The only one who plays w/him is hubs, but i sure like to look at him, he is soooo cute.

Oh I wish I would get an organizing/cleaning bug! I have to say, I am the worst. I have a cute home, and it is always straitened, but if you looked under or in things you would see things stuffed to the limit! I can't throw anything out! Not only am I just to uninterested to do it, but I am attached to everything. I used to do what I called a 50/50 cleanout w/my kids. I used to dump the barbies/crayons/coloring books, etc and say "one for you, one for the poor children" until the pile was complete. It worked well, maybe it's time to do this to myself w/everything. I mean how many purses/pens/cleaning supplies/magazines etc do Jim and I need?

*I have to say, you are all great inspirations to me, I completely forget when I am not sparking w/you all that I even care about my eating habits/health/wt. I am just moving as fast as I can to keep up w/life,and being lazy when i can. Nice to stop and remember what makes me happiest in the long run! Healthy eating habits, thinking about what I want to do better, striving to be my best!

* I am so happy I have so many passions: Sparking being one of them, tennis, gkids, friends, family and now facebook, i just joined. My gdaughter asked me to be her friend so I had to say yes! She signed me up, I am completly facebook frustrated, but found out right before I sparked how to read my homepage (posts from those I love) I have to say though, I love my sparks more.

*Love reading all the chat! Miss you all when I am gone. Hoping all of you are planning something fun this wkend. one of my tennis friends asked hubs and I to go to a casino for a big lobster buffet. Not sure if we want to do anything away this wkend. Kind of tired of eating out. The ship and vacation food was enough! Plus throwing our money away at the Casino just doesn't sound like a good plan. We usually go when people ask us out, so will have to ponder it.

*Brenda enjoy your fitbit! , *Neuton hope the sun comes through for you!, *Mich enjoy your pool time, *Fiona enjoy your wkend w/your son, and big hellos to Sammi, Dale, Arro, and you Bonnie. Loved catching up on your chats, great advice!

Brenda glad you found some jeans you like. I always have to order my pants online, since Japan is "The Land of the Little People". LOL I also have to order a tall size (I'm 5'7) b/c it seems the regular size pants are just tooshort. The tall size is always a bit too long, so I also do a lot of hemming.

Swimming was hard to day, thought my arms were going to fall off! But glad to have gone.

Have a good weekend, all!

Enjoy your new toy!

Crazy that the dog has just begun barking at people and being so aggressive. I too am wondering if he is in some kind of pain. Does she have a vet for him, or family to take him to one? That does seem to be a strange change.

DALE

I so understand about the addictive personality. I am that for sure. With me, it is sort of all or nothing. In my youth, I would do things like stay up all night (I did work 3 to 11:30pm, so not so strange) cleaning my apartment, washing walls, floors, everything. I always thought that it was necessary to rearrange all of the furniture in order to clean the house.

Then I did not save so much stuff
.
As I grew older, having my own house for the last 29 1/2 years, I had gotten into the habit of not throwing stuff away. It is a very big old house.

Then I could not stand it, and would do a purge, throwing it all away, or giving it away etc.

In the last 5 years or so, I have not been able to do that kind of thing without paying the price in pain. I still did it, but then would hurt.

Now, in the last 2 years or so, I don't even clean my own house. My cousin cleans for me for a nominal fee.

When last I cleaned the basement, my cousin's grandson came over and did it all for me as I sat on a chair and told him which pile to put everything in, then he took to the Goodwill, etc, and put the rest out for the garbage. This was the summer before my back surgery, and I was in such intense pain, but could no longer stand all of the stuff.

Now that I know that I can't do it all anymore, I am much more careful with what I save. Since the surgery, I can do a bit at a time, and straighten up and put away.

The stuff I was working on yesterday was mostly bookwork and clothes, books stuff that I can move around now.

I guess the only suggestion I have for you to overcome your reluctance to organize, is to try to pick one place and work there for an hour or two. Do what you can, and leave it for a bit. Then maybe later in the day, or the next day, do the same.

I guess as I am writing it, I am realizing that it is just like "One day at a time", make one change at a time, etc. I guess that is why I am getting some better about it all. Trying to live one day at a time is actually very helpful in a lot of ways I don't always think of.

It is a good feeling once you have done a bit, and it seems to make me want to do a bit more.

Hope that helps some. Good luck.

BRENDA

You are really good at that kind of thing, any other suggestions for Dale?

SAMMI

I really admire the people who are able to do the fostering of stray animals. It is a wonderful thing to do.

So glad that the kitty you picked was fine once it was no longer scared to death.

I have to laugh, I have always wanted a Maine Coon cat. The only cats I have ever had, have found me. Most of them come to my back yard and back deck. Laura and Derek even adopted one when they lived here who just came up on our back deck and jumped on our laps.

I have decided that the only way for me to get a Maine Coon is for one to show up on my deck! What are the odds?

MICHELE

Sorry you have had such bad experiences with cats and dogs. I can certainly understand you not wanting to be around them.

Sure hoping that you enjoyed your swim today!

NUTRON

I wish you luck with those button pushing people! They are always around. I guess I don't have too much trouble with them because I am so blunt and just come right out and call them on it. I do have one friend who can do that to me, but I am working on detaching and it seems to be helping our relationship.

Feel better.

BRENDA

Glad you found new jeans you are happy with.

Not sure what you are referring to when you say we have two places to post? Have I been missing something?

Had a good day in spite of the cold weather.

Had time with Gracee and Ellee and it was good.

The other day, I told Scotty that I was going to make chili, would he get some beans from the store, I had everything else. He said sure, but said that his friend was telling him about a kind of chili he makes with black beans, corn, taco seasonings etc.

I said I will make whatever you bring home for me. So, I made it and it was very delicious, we both loved it. I will tell you the ingredients if you are interested, it is pretty healthy unless you have a problem with canned foods

I use a lot of canned stuff, so you may not like that. All of the cans were 16 oz, except for the tomatoes which were 32 oz.
can diced tomatoes
can Mesquite barbeque black beans
can Brooks mild chili beans
can cut green beans
can of yellow corn
One pound of ground sirloin drained, cooked with onions, green and yellow peppers, tablespoon of sugar, pckge of taco seasonings, chili powder, cumin seasoned salt.

I put all of that into the crock pot, and added

pico del gallo

salsa

garlic

I am not good with amounts, I just put in without measuring. Probably 2 tablespoons garlic, 1/2 cup pico del gallo, 1/2 cup salsa

pretty much to your taste

Cooked in on high in the crook pot for an hour, then on low for 2 hours, then on warm for about 5 hours. Pretty sure however you cook in a crock pot will work.

Sorry, I am that kind of cook, but I am sure you could figure it out to your taste. We really enjoyed it, and it was fast and easy.

Have a great weekend my friends God Bless.

Thanks Fiona,

I really didn't realize that we had two places to post. What fun! I clicked on his and couldn't figure out why the posts were old until I re-read your post. I love hearing about everone's daily struggles and triumphs. We are all there at one point or another.

Finally found some jeans that actually fit me and not so low cut that it feels like I am being cut in half. They are Gloria Vanderbuilt Classic Fit Tapered with the 'original tummy slimmer that flatters your figure and fits your style'. The color is called Rinse and the jean material has some stretch. I have washed them and they are on my cutting table waiting to be shortened. I found them on line at Sears on sale for $24.95 or thereabouts. Plus I got 15% off and used $6 worth of bonus points. Can't remember the exact price but they fit me well. I have a long body and short legs.

I ordered a wireless fitbit zip a couple days ago with the deal of the day at Walgreens and it came today. It was $59 plus %15 off plus tax so it came to $55. It is really cute. Now to go on line and figure out how to set it up. It is really cute.

Dale how luck you are to have your son upgrade your computer! My computer is so "old", it's slower than molasses in winter! as my mom used to say. We are getting ready to buy a new computer anynow.

Brenda, I have been bitten twice by big dogs, & am rather afraid of them now. How scary that the dog was growling at you! Is the dog old, or maybe sick in any way?

It is cold here today. The temps keep going up & down. Hard to get used to as I get older.

TOday is also fhe first day I will go back to the pool after 2 1/2 months of not swimming. The pool was closed for repairs. I imagine I'll probably be really tired after today's swim!

have a nice weekend, all!

Ate a corned beef and cabbage sandwich at an English Pub last night after my nicotine anonymous meeting. It was lean meat but the bread was greasy. If I order it again I'll ask them to toast the bread but not put the grease on it.

Last night my son came back over and upgraded my computer. He left before the email websites had been updated and I was all dumb about how to make them work. But eventually, I got them all straightened out and it wasn't complicated after all. Now I have a much more efficient system and know immediately when someone has posted something both on the computer screen and on my iPhone. That's impressive.

It's after 3pm though and I think I ought to take the dog out with the idea that maybe I'll go for a walk. It's only 39 degrees out but sunny and not overly windy. It makes me put on socks and sneakers instead of staying in my slippers.

BONNIE,
You have impressed me. I long for organization but don't touch a thing. It's like being an addict in reverse. I wonder what I can do with that comparison... Extremes of too much or too little each have an addict's personality. Hmmmn. I was surprised to learn that by going to lots of other 12 step fellowships. For instance, in OA (over eaters anonymous) as just one example, a too skinny person who has trouble keeping weight on is just as important and welcomed as a person who is fat and eats too much.

This came up in other fellowships, too. Worth pondering. Anyone want to dialogue on this with me to help my brain get some constructive insights or actual behaviors I WOULD do to deal with my avoidance? In the meantime, I'll ignore the piles by going outside with Oliver.

Dale,

We can have pets here but the pet deposit is around $400 so with that and vet bills, I chose not to have anymore pets. We have three dogs and three cats here. The last place had lots of dogs and cats and many dogs were not well trained and there were lots of 'accidents' on the way to the elevator to go outside. Many never picked up after them either. Fleas all over. It was a mess. Here if someones pets have fleas they have to hire the exterminator. Animals are not allowed in the common rooms. Then they get in trouble if the dogs bark or make too much noise.

I choose not to have pets anymore, the ones I have are stuffed animals. Dogs need to be able to run free, not have to be indoors most of the time. We always had fenced yards and the animals could go in and out.

Yesterday afternoon Joice called me and asked me to come and close her living room window because it was getting too cold. She had Polio as a child and is in a wheelchair and can't get close to the window. She had a five year old dog named Stitches who I have known since he was born. Well, she asked me if I could repair the armrest on her wheelchair because the front edge had holes and the foam was coming out. Stitches chewed it at one point. She had some stretchy foam backed material. When I touched her wheelchair and put the fabric around the arm to measure it he started growling and barking at me. I told him to knock it off, I was just trying to fix it. Then as I was walking to the door he came running after me and barking and scared the bejesus out of me. He is a medium sized over weight dog with one blue eye and one brown eye. So I don't know what his problem was. He had never done that before. Joice said he has just started doing that to the caregivers who come to help her everyday.

Bonnie,

I have been sorting and tossing things as I find them and getting other things put away in that vacant space. I have a lot of stuff here but it is organized and nothing blocking. Some apartments are so cluttered because people aren't able to cope with housework and then it gets away from them. Faith at the end of the hall has broken her toe three or four times since I have been here simply because she has stuff everywhere and not much walking space. She has congestive heart failure and no one to help her. Last year when she went to the hospital we cleaned her apartment while she was gone and she was very grateful. But now is back to what it was because she doesn't put anything away. Sad for them.

Have a great day everyone. Will check back later. We had a lot of rain all day yesterday.

Nutron, hope you got your power back. One of the first things we did when we moved here was to buy a generator. It's a small town and we are the only house on the block. In a big storm if the power goes out we would be the last ones to get our power back. Turns out we have lots of small outages and are thankful for the generator.

It's cold out today, boo, hiss. Just planted a few new plants yesterday and now we have two days of below average temps! This is a crazy Month.

I did cat rescue for 19 years in Scottsdale. Also an occasional dog. For my birthday one year I went to the pound and picked out a cute, small, young cat that I thought was just scared. The pound employee had to pick the cat up with a catch pole and put him in a
sack. I went home and put him in a kitty condo, one of those two story cages with shelves,
a bed and food and water. By the next day I was holding him. He was just scared.

Hope everyone has an excellent day. Remember to eat healthy, Blessings, Sammi
