Dale, I do not eat in bed, nor do I watch TV or read in bed, since i have a hard time sleeping. When I went to a sleep clinic, they discouraged doing anything like that would confuse my mind and not let it relax.
My stomach is just producing way too much acid in response to stress. That's what the meditation was supposed to help me control. I would like to find some soothing sounds like the gongs and the bowls. The instructor said that one, which if it were a musical instrument would be a C, directly goes to the solar plexus and what is the sound F, is for the heart. i need to go to the library to see what they've got for meditation sounds or music.

Sammi, you are right in saying that it sometimes help relieve stress when you can talk about it, and you have all helped me at one time or another. I appreciate it.

I feel a little better today. I ushered for an afternoon philharmonic of Italian themed music including some puccini, and music relaxes me. I also sat and concentrated on my breathing like the yoga teacher has said.

Mary,
I guess you do have to keep an eagle eye on the film selection since they change weekly. We have a fabulous library system out here and can get movies out like we do books. We're told our library system is the best in the country. We're in Howard County, Maryland.

As far as your reflux, do you eat at night or in a reclined position at all? I know that when I used to eat in bed at night I created reflux, and when I stopped the habit my problem disappeared. That may not be so in your case but I just thought I'd ask. It's a serious issue.

Brenda,
That chair sounds interesting. Can you take a picture of it and put it in your spark photos? Furniture sure is expensive, so you must have done lots of homework in picking this item out.

Well, Scott and I drove south to visit at Jasmine's house and hung out with her family and mom's guests from out of town. When we were ready to leave her mom asked if Jas could come back with us and sleep over so she could go out with her girlfriend. Though her step father would be remaining home, Cynthia preferred that Jasmine get a night out of the house. We're going to call my neighbor who had a baby in December and see if we can go visit for a little while. I don't know what else I will do with her for this afternoon.

Sunday, ah, a time to be relaxed. I hope everyone can.

Good Morning Sparklers, it was a chilly, windy day yesterday --- too cold to go to the Strawberry Festival. The sun was out and if you could find a place out of the wind it wasn't too bad. Reached 55, but sure didn't feel that warm. It did not go under 40 last night, a nice present. Should be one more cold day and then a warm up. Yes!

Mary, along with yoga breathing try listening to some happy dance music -- I have a few CDs I made of up, happy tunes and just sing along. I find it puts me in a better frame of mind. Do you do yoga more then once a week? I go twice a week and it helps me so much with my stress level. Also walking in the morning with a friend boosts my energy. Talk to friends too. Often if you put it out in front of yourself by talking about your stress it allows you to see it more clearly.

Have a wonderful day Sparklers. Blessings, Sammi emoticon

I read quite a few posts just now. I didn't know i'd been away from the thread so long. Everything was news to me.

Haven't had a great week, either weightwise or healthwise or even general luckwise.

The result of all my stress is that my acid reflux is out of control. And when that happens, I get esophageal spasms that make me choke. So I've been mostly taking anti acid drugs. I can theoretically take them 4 times a day, after I take my usual protonix in the morning, but I haven't had to do that in a few years. I tend to internalize stress. This morning I went to my first "sound meditation" using glass singing bowls and breathing exercises. It was a wonderful feeling, but unfortunately didn't last long. Maybe when I get the hang of it I can "listen to my breath" as the group leader said. I hope so.

Dale I have wanted to see Barbara the movie but it hasn't made it to our local art theater. We get the art films at one of the regular theaters the foreign and art films come for about a week, if you don't watch for the titles you miss them. There are a lot of places in Los Angeles but the traffic and distance means we spend more time in the car than in the theater.

This is a really busy time with some volunteer responsibilities, family commitments and a bit of travel. Reading the posts and logging in but not a lot of time to write. God weekend wishes. For everyone

Dale,

I have also heard about the four pound pressure on the knees for every pound gained, so that is an interesting fact to ponder.

Good morning everyone,

Waiting for my chair to be delivered. It will be here between 10 am and 8 pm but I may be the first delivery because I am just a little over a mile away. They are supposed to call. Yesterday I went down and paid the balance.

I have never had any kind of custom made furniture, Bonnie, so this is very exciting. The best part is being able to fork over the money to pay it in full without time payments or credit. I am very frugal and careful what I buy.

We had a run in with the pot smoking neighbor and his son last night. I told Nelson that I could smell pot in the hallway when I went to dump the trash. Well, his son came in the lobby last night where four of us were sitting and started verbally abusing us and said we would get him evicted if we didn't stop saying things and they were not smoking pot in his room. That was never said by us, just that I smelled it. Then the son said that it was probably someone else. We laughed. Then he flounced out. I came home and wrote him up and we all signed it and I put it in the managers box for her to find Monday. Now this morning Nelson told Dick that they are taking us to court. Another laugh............I hope he is packing because he already got a letter from the lawyer so his days here are numbered.

Excitin' times in the life of Judge Roy Bean these days. I could write a book.

I'm dealing with a yeast infection and feel like I am retaining water so my weight is up a couple pounds right now so I guess I will post that for now.

Have a good day.

Bonnie,
You may want to check this out to determine if it's an accurate fact:
For every pound we weigh (or gain), it puts four pounds of pressure on our knees. It certainly caught MY attention since I've heard of this before.

Your day sounds lovely. Sorry there's no theater for indie and foreign films anywhere near you. I take them in quite a lot. Columbia is located between Washington DC and Baltimore. I have a theater both to my north and to my south a half hour away that shows them. PLUS, in Columbia itself we have foreign film series that are shown at the Community College theater. It's part of the perks of living here.

Hope it warms up for you. We are supposed to have a cold spell now, maybe a week or less, then rain and 40's Good old Northwest Ohio.

DALE

Have a great visit with your granddaughter. Glad you enjoyed the film. We don't have a theater here anymore where you can see the foreign or indie films.

Hoping that as the economy is getting better, people will be more willing to spend money on things like that and we will have somewhere again.

Going to the gym in a bit. Then going to Amy's so that she, Debbie and I can get on the road to go to Chelsea Mi to have a nice dinner and see a play at the Purple Rose Theater.

Cold and windy today, sigh.

Have a great weekend my friends. Stay safe and God Bless

Marija,
Have fun with that flower show. Are you going by car or are there enough folks that you have a bus? I'm sure the show will be wonderful. How early do you have to take off? It'll be a long day for you all.

Bonnie,
That you take even 15 minute walks is great. I know from what you are saying that your knee operations will finally give yo the relief you need. Will you do one at a time? My hips were also bone on bone and there was no getting around needing replacements. Pressure on joints is just one of the many ways that carrying extra weight does damage to our bodies.

Michelle,
I can't say we are near spring when we have the whole month of March to get through, but whenever the weather is milder I appreciate the gift and take it for what it's worth. Still no snow to speak of, perhaps we will be spared once again. Last year's winter was REALLY mild.

I went into Baltimore last night to see a foreign film called BARBARA. Before it started Scott and I each had a crepe for dinner at the little shop next door to there. It was rich and filling. The movie was about a doctor in the 1980s in East Berlin. Very European in style, it had an interesting twist to it.

Now I'm playing telephone tag with Cynthia about driving down to their home so I can visit with Jasmine ('granddaughter'). Jas and I scheduled for me to do a sleepover and bring Oliver, but Cynthia has out of town company. So I'm trying to modify the plan now... Okay, Scott will come here at 1pm and we'll go out to lunch together then drive down to Jasmine. I won't do a sleepover but we'll have a long visit.

I just remembered that yesterday I was supposed to check in with the 13 lbs in year 2013 thread. Since I've been fluctuating inside 4 lbs over and over, it just doesn't seem like there's anything to report.

Enjoy your Saturday,
Dale

Good Morning Sparklers, it's the first day of our cold spell --- should be in the 50s with a chilly wind. We will have temps in the low 30s for two nights and then a slow warm up.

Hope everyone has a lovely weekend. Remember to eat healthy.

It was good that you were able to get your walk in early and with your mom. Hope you enjoyed the rest of the day.

I actually walked at the park for about 15 minutes before going into the celebration. That cold air had my heart rate up there pretty good. But, I did get a walk in. Came home and stretched on the inversion. Exercised on their this morning and this afternoon.

Read my book even after my walk, 'cause I did not want to go in right at 4:00pm. I am reading "Dust to Dust" by Tami Hoag. Pretty good book. I realized after beginning it, that I had already read it, but don't remember the ending so am reading it again. I do that on occasion. I will read a bit of the beginning and thing I haven't read it, then whoops. That's ok, it is a good book.

MARIJA

Good idea not to put too much emphasis on the scale. Obviously you are ok since it dropped again.

Enjoy your flower show.

MICHELE

Enjoy your spring like weather. I am sure it is wonderful after your cold winter. We are suppose to get about a week of colder weather before warming up and raining next weekend. That is what they are saying now at least.

We will see

Thank you all for your condolences. It was a bit of a strange affair being at the celebration of Roger's life. I did see people that I knew, but just kind of felt disconnected. Was glad that I had gone, but only stayed for about 1 1/2 hours. There was to be a "remembrance" at 7:00pm, but did not feel as though I would have been able to deal with that.

Came home and made beef and noodles with the rest of the roast beef I had made last week.. Turned out to be pretty tasty.

Am going to Chelsea Michigan tomorrow with Amy and Debbie to the Purple Rose theater. We will have a very nice dinner at the Common Grill before the show.

Looking forward to that.

Getting tired, and it is getting late, so am going to sat Goodnight! my friends.

God Bless

Whew! I caught up with all your posts but will probably fall behind since I am taking a class and busy with homework and all. Then next Tuesday a bunch of us are going to the Philadelphia Flower Show. I have heard about for quite a while now and will let you know if it lives up to its hype.
I am glad you are all well. What stands out, let's see, is Vinegar. I heard about it too, but read that the common vinegar we get in the supermarket is not the right kind. I will have to go to the Vinegar websight and figure it all out. I have also heard about lemon juice in warm water in the morning. Anyone know about that?
I weighed myself last Monday and gained 2 lbs, then a couple of days later, was down the 2 lbs. I know that sometimes I shouldn't weigh myself because it is a false high and that will upset me, but do want to weigh myself weekly. I am learning more to sense what I weigh by how I feel.
Have a good weekend everyone...M

Dale your walking is just great! keep it up. I don't always walk in my sneakers, either.

Bonnie, there are also a lot of small businesses here, too in Tokyo. I like them much better than the big companies that come in & push the little ones out. I have to agree with you on that! I don'T like Target as much as I used to either---I think their stuff is also cheap quality.

How was the memorial service? I am also sorry to hear about your loss. Did you read your book? What are you reading? I love to read!!

It is another looking-like-Spring windy day here. I have to teach english all morning & then will go to a tone chime practice at the mall this afternoon ( we have rented a room to use, today whereas on Thursdays it's at my piano teacher's house) & there will be a performance tomorrow, Sunday at the Yokohama museum of Art to commemorate the 2nd anniv. of the earthquake 2 years ago.

Bonnie,
I'm so sorry for your loss. Having just gone through the death of my 70 year old cousin, I feel ya. May the day provide some kind of comfort for you. Going early is smart. You'll be in more of a contemplative mood.

When I stepped outside my house after posting on here, my mother was also going down the steps with her dog. Spontaneously, I decided to join her on her Wilde Lake walk even though I wasn't wearing sneakers. Thankfully, this is now a done deal before noon. From here I can shower and then use the day as I please.

I am wishing you a good month! Actually I am wishing all of you a great new month!

MICHELE

I do not go to Meijer's too often, because I always spend too much money. I did stock up on stuff so that was a good thing.

I also go to Target, but not as much as I used to. I used to love Target, but while they used to have a really good clothing section for plus sizes, they have nothing but boring stuff now. I wrote them a letter quite a few years ago about the direction they were going in, did get an answer, but basically, tough luck.

I do not go to Walmart. I was raised in a family that is very Union oriented, and I was in a Union my whole working life. Even my job at K Mart had a union. Only the the waitress jobs and a couple part time jobs did not.

It is just a personal choice for me, but I won't shop there. I also object to the way they come into communities, and run the smaller local businesses out. Like I say, just a personal choice.

BRENDA

I am so excited for you to get your brand new custom recliner. I have never had anything custom made, so that sounds wonderful. Enjoy it.

Marilyn came and cleaned the house this morning. I took the sheets off of my bed and Scotty's bed, and she and I remade both beds with the extra sheets. I am washing my bedspread now, and then will put both sets of sheets in the washer and then get them ready for the next time of changing. My new washer will wash my bedspread nicely, and it will wash the two sets of sheets with no problem. I am really loving it, and not sorry I had to buy it. I certainly got my $400 or so worth of the old washer, had it for probably 15 years, maybe more. I put a great big kind size comforter in it, and it did a great job. It spins everything so well, that it doesn't require nearly as much drying time.

I am thinking that my electric bill with be much less this month because of the washer, and the dryer not having to dry as long.

This month's bill was a bit high because of all of the electric equipment we had for Aunt Betty.

Planning on going to the memorial service for my teacher this afternoon, but I am having sad feelings about it. Pretty sure if I go, I will feel better, it is just getting there. It is to be a celebration of his life, and I am sure there will be tons of people there. I am planning on getting there by 4:00pm or earlier just to make sure I can get a parking spot, and can get in. I am afraid that after people are getting off work it will be packed. He taught at my high school for 35 years, and then at another small school for a few years after retirement. Was very involved in life, so I am sure there will be lots of others there as well.

It is in a hall at my favorite park, so actually I think I will go early and take a short walk and read my book.

Have a great day my friends. God Bless

Bonnie

Good morning. Yesterday I chose to abort my walk due to a questionable cloud discharge (!) -- it wasn't supposed to rain or snow but there was a leaking of something from the sky. Maybe I'll make myself get out there today; dunno. (Oliver's facial stains have obviously tainted my poetic license. Ha) Talking about the tiny tot, it's time to take him out.

Michele,

If you do a search for the Pope, you can probably find out about his retirement or it may be on Utube. It just showed him doing his farewell speech and then going to the helicoptor for a 15 minute ride to his retreat for several months.I heard that he will be moving to an apartment behind the Vatican when they get it decorated. Last night he was disrobed and he chose to wear white. They took his ring and scarred it up and it will be destroyed. This is all new to everyone so there is no protocol for all this so they are making it up as they go along. Same with the Church bells, they didn't know which to ring so they rang them all. I think he has gone into seclusion as far as being in public but he will certainly be able to have visitors.

Bonnie,

I have heard about that substance they inject into the knees to make padding between the bones. My neighbor had double knee surgery a few months ago and she had to have her left one re-done because there was something left in there that was causing her pain. She is now walking without her walker and doing well. She took the train to California two weeks ago so will be home next week. She did not do her therapy like she was supposed to but they did finally heal.

I stocked up for winter but it never really amounted to anything so I am well stocked for the next few months.

We had a heavy rain yesterday afternoon right when I took my groceries to the car so I got soaked. Not cold tho and it actually felt pretty good.

I picked up Elinor up and brought her over here to fill out the paper work and she looked over the apartment. She can start moving stuff in as soon as they finish the cleaning and painting. She is getting very emotional about all this and just wants to cry all the time because she really doesn't want to move but she is down to the end of her money. Laurie (our manager) gave her a good deal for moving in. She knows Elinor doesn't have any money until she moves here. Here rent will be almost $400 cheaper but the trade off is only having one bedroom and no washer/dryer or dishwasher. I didn't want to move either but I got through it and she will too, but she is 13 years older than me so that makes a huge difference. Of course, with the fall she took two days ago in her apartment she is not feeling all that good right now. Her foot got tangled up in her lap blanket and she tried to catch herself on the counter top edge, hurt her finger and fell forward and hit her head on her microwave cart. She didn't do herself much damage except for aches and pains. I don't think she told her daughter either.

Dale,

It is really too bad about your dog's eyes. I hope it all grows out so the stain goes away. We had a Schipperkee and they only come in black but if fed peanutbutter their fur turns a reddish tinge. I miss that little imp. I had to give him back to the breeder when my husband had his stoke and I didn't know where I was going to end up. I was left flapping in the breeze but I survived it all and found out I was stronger than I thought.

It was 55 degrees this morning at 5, absolutely balmy. Tomorrow will be in the mid-60's so I can open my windows wide. Yesterday Maria who lives down the hall put beans on to cook, fell asleep and burned them and stunk up the whole third floor. I had turned on my toaster oven and was cooking a little single serve pizza and couldn't figure out what the smell was. I thought it was my oven. Then I wandered out in the hall and the end window was wide open, then was told about the beans. That's not the first time she has done that. She needs a crockpot. She has some mental health issues.

Good news! My new wall hugger recliner is in and it will be delivered tomorrow. I will go in and pay the balance this morning. They said it would be 8-10 weeks to have it made and it only took 8. I'm a happy camper.

Have a good day. I forgot to weigh this morning so will wait until tomorrow to post.

bonnie, I love Meijers! I like it more than any of the other stores--Target, Walmart etc. I shop there a lot whenever I'm in Detroit. what kind of things did you buy?

We are having our first "spring wind" which is always the sign that Spring has arrived here. It will be hard to figure out whether or not to put away the heavy winter coats.

have a good weekend!

DALE

I do love to walk, but before surgery, I had so much trouble with my back that it was pretty painful, actually everything was pretty painful. Now, I really need to have something done with my knees. Have been trying to see if I can strength the muscles around the knees so that I might be able to walk more easily.

My Dr said that we could try to have some substance of some kind, not sure exactly what it is, inserted between the bones in my knees. They are both bone on bone. Trying to hold out a little bit before having them replaced, but I may have to do that sooner than later.

We will see.

My exercise today was walking all around in Meijer and spending a ton of money. I was so tired from pushing the heavy cart that I asked for someone to help me get it to the car.

I went through the ad and found so many things that were on good sales, so I stocked up.

Scottie is going to bring it all in the house when he gets home in a bit.

Then I will have to figure out where to put it all. Stocking up is good, but ...

Tomorrow I am going to the open house for my teacher who died He was only 70 years old but had been ill for awhile. Will see many of my classmates. We have been talking about it on Facebook.

Wishing you all a good day tomorrow. God Bless.

Dale I'm really sorry to hear about Oliver. Five & one half years old is not very old!

Brenda was the program you watched about the pope interesting at all? It wasn't in the news here this a.m. I 'M sure that's partially b/c Japan i s not a Christian country.

today is is just cloudy & dreary looking. It is supposed to be the first windy Spring day here. Hmmm....

Have a nice weekend, all!

SunnyBeachGirl,
It IS hard to keep up with all the posters. At first I thought it so intimidating that I said I wouldn't come here regularly. And then there were fewer folks posting regularly and I got to 'know' them at least. Do what you can and don't worry about knowing everyone.

Michelle,
Oliver is 5 1/2 years old. His comb out grooming looks good but they made a mistake the time before this appointment by switching his shampoo, from oatmeal to citrus! As a bichon/maltese mix, his hair absorbs everything like crazy. That's why all of a sudden his eyes started to stain his fur from the ducts. They couldn't cut it all away unfortunately and I'm fervently hoping this won't turn into a permanent stain. I think it has though. Anyway, he looks better than he did.

Bonnie,
It sounds like you do plenty of exercises. I didn't realize that walking just wasn't one of them.

I've made my quota for walking this week, getting back into my routine, and it has given me relief. It's time to grab another one today while the weather is holding up. I don't think I'll be out there after this because very strong winds and colder temps are due.

Everyone, enjoy your day,
Dale

Yes, We are what we eat. I have known that for years. And we do need to get up out of our chairs and get some exercise. Both go hand in hand. Also, just counting calories doesn't work, it has to be healthy foods that we eat.

This journey is all about making healthy choices, it isn't a diet, it is a lifestyle.

I'm watching the Pope fly to his retreat where he will stay the next several months. It is a sad day for a lot of people but if his health is not good and he can't do the work, then it is time for him to step down. I doubt that we will ever see and event like this again, at least in our lifetime.

I read something this week, I have heard before but never really took to heart:

Losing weight is 10% exercise and 90% what you eat.

I have made exercise charts over the years and felt if I could just exercise every day I would be at my goal weight. I have finally realized I need to track my food much more. I exercise to stay healthy, strong and fit. But if I want to lose the weight, I have to track what I eat EVERY DAY!

Hello all!

Pam I hope you are feeling better. Just try to live for today, like Bonnie said. you don'thave tomorrow. It is working for me.

Dale, good for you for getting all of those walks in! Is Oliver old? I hate the way our bodies change as we get older. I wish I could wish away the gray hair, age spots, aches...!
AS for the grocery shopping, most people have baskets on the front as well as the back of their bikes. I can only buy as much as I can carry. I have to hook one of the grocery bags on the handle bars of my bike as well. Sometimes I get to go grocery shopping with Tad, my husband on the weekends. That is helpful!

Bonnie, how are you feeling today?

Off to my piano lesson!

Sunny, oops, I mean Sammi!
I like your definition of the energy stealers of this world. Dark clouds alright. Sometimes tornadoes.

Bonnie,
Are you able to go for walks? I know you've talked about all the stairs you had to climb and now that your legs are better I wondered what you are doing for exercise.

Michelle,
When the weather stinks and you still have to ride your bike to get groceries or some such thing, it must be very hard on you. I guess you can only do small shops at a time. How do you carry heavy or large supplies?

Oliver was groomed yesterday and the groomer said she couldn't get out all the eye stains on his face. I was very disappointed about that. He always had a perfectly white coat before. They had used a citrus shampoo on him last time instead of the mild oatmeal. His fur is very delicate. I don't know if he'll always have a stained face now.

It has been an early morning for me today. It's another good walking day here, I'm glad to note. When I finish today I will have gotten in my weekly minimum of minutes. That feels much better than last week did with no walks at all.

Dale

Have my computer back. My cousin's son in law fixed it for me. Glad to NOT have to use my friend's laptop anymore. It was good to have it, but I don't like to use that keyboard, much happier with my own.

PAM

Glad you are feeling better. I would like to make a little suggestion. Don't begin tomorrow, begin today. Even if you are having a difficult, just do the best you can. Doing it tomorrow is too reminiscent of being on a "diet" on Monday.

Just a little different way to look at it.

I have waited too late to get on, so just stopping to say goodnight.

MICHELE

I wish I was close enough to sew your curtains too. It would be fun to meet and for me to go to Japan. Prayers that you all are ok.

MACI

Prayers for serenity.

DALE

Hope you and your mom are feeling better. Glad you diffused the situation at the meeting.

The weather here is not good, so I just stayed home all day, and might be here all day tomorrow. Hoping that the prediction for tonight and tomorrow is not correct. If it would be just about 2 or 3 degrees warmer, we would have only rain.

God Bless and good night my friends

Very few people escape family drama but it is never fun and leaves me with a sad feeling. I do remember some of the fun times and how glad I am for the easy to get along with ones.
Doing well on the holding off any weight gain and planning to step up the program for the next two weeks. I figure I can do a lot in 14 days. Then regroup again. This last 10 pounds is taking a very long time to come off.

Thanks for the advice. My internist does my GYN stuff too. I have my annual in 6 weeks, I'll talk to her then. When I googled it though it does appear to be a pretty common thing, the balance of estrogen/progesterone can be off enough to cause breasts to increase. Who knew?? Though one medical abstract I read pointed to weight gain as being a contributing factor too. All this hormone stuff is so whacky and it's not something people talk about that much. I am hypothyroid, was diagnosed about 12 years ago. I had my yearly with my endocrinologist recently and he said my levels look good but I know estrogen levels affect my TSH levels too. It's all so inter related and the effects can be so subtle and complex.

Pam, all we can do it keep moving forward. I'm there with you checking in with JEMS.

PT - what is is with people like that? Part of me feels sorry for them because they must obviously be so miserable, but then part of me gets so frustrated that they need to make everyone around them miserable too. Sounds like everyone appreciated you standing up to her.

CLASSICCOLORS,
I have no idea what your body is telling you. Is it your GYN or your Internist who you are consulting? The symptoms may have nothing much to do with the fact that you are going into menopause. Have your thyroid checked for one thing. And be willing to go to a different doctor.

I weighed in at 161 this morning, after some concerted effort made yesterday to back my scale down. I also walked a second time around Wilde Lake.

Over my morning coffee I sit and type away to this one and that, filling up much of my a.m. hours with chit chat. No wonder I don't get anything significant done.

Last night I went to the Running Brook Condos board meeting. It was good I was there. It's sort of an anecdotal story. There is an infuriating woman who comes to the meetings and complains bitterly about the same things each month. She has attacked my mother in a previous meeting harshly enough that my mother steers totally clear of her now. The woman was going into her second rant, which is about my girlfriend Sara who is unfortunately living in the same building. This Marie has a thing about Sara backing into her parking space, claiming that fumes get into an old man's apartment. Well, last night I just called her on it and said it is impossible and imaginary. She said, what, you're calling me crazy? I said nothing more. Both the Chair of the board and the Property Manager thanked me profusely for what I did. She drives us all crazy. (Doesn't shut the hell up throughout the whole meeting.) Mom was grateful that I came to energetically balance out the meeting room. So did our neighbor Jean, who was so uptight from Marie's mouth that she was all twisted in her chair like a pretzel.

My son (Nate) was at his garage this weekend and again last night building shelving to get the shop set up for business. His first customer was due to come in this morning. I know he's absolutely exhausted, and I hope he can come back early today to unpack his room for my mother and get real rest again. He drives himself hard.

That's about it for my morning chat with you. I woke at 3a.m. and kept going back to sleep over and over. Oliver is patiently waiting for me to get him out now.

Sammi thank you for the info. about yoga. I am going to try to find a regular class.

Em, I have never heard of becoming chestier. BUt I imagine it can happen. Anything can happen to us women! I have been in menopause for the past 2 years now, since right before my 50th b-day. ( I am 52 as of December) Maybe it would be best to ask your GYN dr.?

Brenda, I am going to try to find that vinegar institute. I did not watch the Oscars; I don't know many of the actors/actresses either. It goes on too long, too. (I agree with you, Dale!)
My mom used to use vinegar for everything!

The Vinegar Institute tells all about vinegar uses. I have tried to post the link but SP will not let me.

Go to search and type in The Vinegar Institute and scroll down to Web Results. When it is open, on the left side scroll down to Uses and Tips.

I hope it works. It did for me.

Hi Ladies,

Kind of embarrassed to post this. Checking in here with a question about perimenopause. I'm 51 and have noticed my PMS has gotten worse over the last couple of years and my clockwork periods weren't quite so clockwork, but overall haven't seen much change. However I did put on 5 lbs last year that seemed to come out of nowhere.

Well in Dec. I skipped my first period but no big deal. January came and was super heavy and awful. This month my big problem has been, I think I've gone up 2 bra cup sizes. So painful! Plus every time I step on the scale, I'm up another pound. The first few days I thought it was s temporary thing, but it's been about 3 weeks now. What the heck? I had never heard of becoming Chesty McGee as a symptom of menopause??

What I've been trying to do:
* last doctors appointment my doc had suggested an over the counter progesterone cream to help with PMS. I've seen absolutely no effect.
* I'm not a big drinker but I had heard even small amounts of alcohol can have an effect on estrogen levels, so I've cut out my occasional beers
* making sure I get out and exercise, I'm a runner and so I'm always pretty active
* making sure I take my vitamins and fish oils.

Nothing has had any effect. I had to search for a bigger bra this morning and I'm dreading my run. What gives? Anyone have any advice?

Thanks!!

I'll try to remember that white vinegar is good for washing windows. I do a terrible job on windows, and avoid the task.

The dog gets groomed today so I ought to make myself get a walk in with him beforehand. That would give me 2 days in a row at least, since tomorrow will be a miserably rainy one.

I watched the Oscars last night but always get impatient before it ends, like an hour before. No red carpet viewing for me. The winners are usually strange picks anyway. That Lincoln won nothing but leading man was surprising, and Dark Zero Thirty got nothing at all. Whatever...

Have a good week. Work your program. Wish for the best.

Happy Monday,

I did watch the Oscars last night. It went on too long and I don't know most of those movie stars and could really care less. I don't know who that host was but he wasn't very funny. I did recognize Sally Fields and Dustin Hoffman. I watch all the old movies and I know all the old movie stars. The last movie theater I went to was in 1980 to watch a Halloween movie with my oldest daughter. I would not do well on a game show or trivia questions. LoL

Bedtime last night came early, just after 9 and was asleep by 9:30, awake by 12:30 then dozed on and off until 4, then up at 4:30. Cable TV went off for a little while. When it came back on they said there was another earthquake in Japan, 6 point something. I hope Michele is all right. I think they said it happened 800 miles from the one two years ago.

The scale was good to me this morning. Down another pound so am almost back to my weigh in. So now I wonder if it is the vinegar and honey I am drinking every afternoon. It can't be from the way I am eating because I am not doing that well with it lately. Nevertheless, something is working. I have also noticed I am not having so much indigestion since I started drinking it.

Maci,

I could not deal with all the drama with the jerk and it is not fair to the children. Your daughter has to stop being a wimp and stand up for her rights instead of being 'oh woe is me'. He just does it because he knows he can get away with it. An attention getter for sure.

Your snow trip sounds like a blast. How many of the children got to go with you?

I'll check back later when I'm more awake.

Happy Monday Sparksters --

Maci, it was probably better for the kids that the drama was frozen -- so sad for everyone else.
What comes around, goes around --

Michele, I pride myself in staying flexible, but when I went to my first few yoga classes and watched our teacher show us each next pose I was like, you want me to do that! Really! After a few classes, we could. Everyone in our class is progressing and pleased with how far we've come. We now look forward to the next challenging pose. I'm working on the Camel -- still can't do it, but getting closer. Do find a class, you will thank yourself.

I did not watch the Oscars -- when I saw who the host was I was not interested.

Have a great day Spark Friends, Sammi

Maci I'm so sorry to hear about your SIL Your trip to the mountains sounded just wonderful! What a great tradition!

Sammi, yes, I made it to the yoga class. It was a 1 time only class, but I think I am interested enough that I'm going to look for a regular class. I can not stretch at all! Stiff is not even the right word to describe how my body doesn't bend!! I am going to look up vinegar on line. I would like to see what I can find out about it.

Bonnie I would love you to sew my curtains, as the hems are coming down. The pillows & my daughter's favorite doll, (called "michele") is always losing an arm!

Hi ladies i started to read all the posts for the last two days , you have all been so busy on line, that is awesome. Just woke up from a long nap and a wkend of yeahs and woes.

Yeah! Our trip to the mtns (snow) was fabulous, the weather was sunny, the roads were clear, and the snow was deep and beautiful, the hills looked like glitter everywhere because the sun was shining off them. The gkids had a blast, playing in the snow, sledding, etc. we filled the back of the truck up w/snow and brought it home to make a snowman in our frountyard. (tradition) All our family came over to watch us do it. I had my SIL run to del taco and buy 20 tacos for the bunch. Memory of a lifetime.

Woe! Today was my oldest DD bday 32. She was supposed to have her kids 8-8 today , per the divorse degree. Well AJ (angry jerk) was up to his usual self. They never made it over. So our plans had to change. We were gonna start the day w/church, the kids love that, no B&B so we just took Addie, Everyone came over and my hubs was furious that the kids wern't allowed here, they were across the street, he begged my DD to call the cops, and again she wouldn't. He lost it. He told her off on her bday for not sticking up for her rights again. He started yelling across the street to Brianna and we all stopped him. it ended up my DD left our home and went w/her sister. Mom and I followed and ended the day w/some sort of peace. I just called my DD to wish her Happy Bday again. So sad.

After wards I came home and started writing about today and my conclusion was: AJ was ignoring my DDs texts for her to see her kids. She had all rights to have them today. Why were all 6 of us frozen to just walk across the street and say to his girlfriend (she was taking care of them) "Today is Kacies bday she gets to hve her kids today, please send them over?" Next time I will do better, instead of the drama maybe we could of had a nice day, my DD could of saw her kids before she left for wk on her bday and life could of felt better. The only thing that makes me feel like maybe i wasn't such a fool is that everyone in our home was frozen w/me. It's amazing what writing can do to clear things up.

Hope you all enjoyed the Oscars, hubs went to our family party tonight and had a great time, I slept through most of them, I was not ready to face family drama again. He just got home. Can't wait to see the movie Argo. Hugs...

MICHELE

When I was in high school I was a home ec major. Did lots of sewing and cooking. Was pretty good a both.

Have not done that much of either for many years. But, I am great at sewing up torn stuffed animals, dolls, pillows, etc for the kids. Thus I get calls to be the "baby" Dr.

Had a good day today. Went to Ann Arbor with Nancy for a great stage show at the Performance Network.

I am going to stop now so that I do not loss another post from typing too long. Have a great Monday.

Get my own computer back on Tuesday

Michele,

Apple Cider Vinegar is used for pickles, salad dressings, BBQ sauce, baked beans and whatever else you want to put it on. Growing up we used it to rinse our hair after washing it and it made it shine. I have a little book about what you can do with vinegar. It is very healthy. White vinegar is good for washing windows, cleaning floors, and neutralizes pet accidents. Look it up on line and see what you find out if you want to know more about it.

Michele,

On one of the websites I subscribe to they talk about as you age your digestion isn't as good and the apple cider vinegar helps replace some of what you need for good digestion, which in turn helps other parts of your body to run more smoothly as your digestion is better. I took it for about a month three or four times a week. I did lose a pound or two in the process. I'll take it.

Did you go to yoga stretching class or did you get stuck inside? Have a good day. Sammi

Dale your walking is wonderful! Keep it up! Just get back on to your good eating plan. Those lbs. will fall off!

Brenda, I am with you----what is raw honey? Does the honey you eat from bee hives tastedifferent from the store bought brand?

Marija, hope your DD feels better! My DH had food poisoning back about 10 years ago. He was very sick for 3 days, & had to be put onantiobiotics to help him.

Sammi, what is apple vinegar supposed to do for one? Is it a cleanser? Help lower blood sugar? Burn fat?

Bonnie, what kind of sewing do you do? I can only cross stitch or needlepoint. I do hem pants & shirts, but I'M not very good at it.

Another cold, windy day. It was down to 30 this a.m. (monday). and you know what that means for my house.....

I did it to myself. Three pounds up, too. Temporary!

All your talk about unfiltered apple vinegar. I have the regular stuff at home and never use it.
I guess I'm not willing to go to any lengths...

After a full week or more without walking, I took a short one out there today. Thirty five minutes worth, but since I also walk the dog around the block, sometimes I give the Wilde Lake walk an extra 5 minutes when I post it on my Fitness Tracker. I COULD have done a double walk to get the week kick started, but settled for more of an 'easy does it' experience. That would have been okay IF we weren't expecting rain to follow.

Saw the movie 'Quartet' yesterday with Mom and Scott. It was good but a little slow. About an English retirement home for classical musicians and opera singers. ...Poor choices when eating out afterward.

I've been using Bragg's vinegar for years with a bit of raw honey or stevia. it is great if i have burning urine (bladder infection) one dose of a tablespoon in 20 oz of water and some stevia and burning is gone in about 1/2 hour

If you don't know what you're doing, don't do it harder!

H Everyone,
I did hear something about apple vinegar but forgot what it helped. I will have to look it up again.
We babysat last night while DD and her husband went out to dinner. DD came home sick with food poisoning (my diagnosis), she is pregnant and I kept telling her to call her Dr. She says she is fine. What is she paying an OB/GNY for? Says if her stomache doesn't settle down today, she will call.
We had a great time with the baby though, he is so much fun. He loved my dinner and I gave her the leftovers because he "like it".
Today is a fine day and sunny to get out. Did I tell you about the Retirement Expo we went to last Sunday? What fun, I have all sorts of brochures and dreams.....
Have a good day...Marija

Sammi,

Thanks for the info about the unfiltered vinegar. Will pick some up next time I go to Centralia where the health food store is. I am using Safeway brand apple cider vinegar for now and have lost a pound of the three that I gained. I must be doing something right.

Good Morning,

I have used the apple cider vinegar -- a couple of teaspoons in water. The important part is to use raw or unfiltered -- I used the organic brand from the health food store, Bragg. The first time it's a bit bitter, but after that I enjoyed the taste. It does have strands of stuff in it, protein enzyme molecules. I had originally purchased some at the grocery store and the next day I was reading one of Dr. Weill's daily tips --- he pointed out it was the raw or unfiltered type that was used.

Have a great day Spark friends, Sammi

Had a nice long post in the works earlier, and then the laptop just died and I lost all of it. Not sure what the issue is, it is plugged in, but the battery light keeps coming on. Oh well, too late to rewrite it all. Next time I guess.

Mike called today, my cousin's son in law who took my broken computer to fix, and he has it all done. Did not have to buy any parts so that was good. He says he is not charging me for the labor, but I am going to give hime money anyway. I don't like to take what someone does for a living, and not pay them anything. I am sure it would have cost a lot of money to have anyone else do it for me. He wants to come over and work some other things out while I am here, so we can't get together until Tuesday morning.

Guess this one is ok now. I did plug it in to a different outlet so maybe that will help.

Had a good day. I fixed a nice breakfast for Scotty and me this morning. Went to run a few errands, and then became very hungry. Had fast food for the first time in two weeks.

Came home and called Grisson to see if I could come over and use the elliptical because Gracee called me last night and had a couple of things she needed me to sew for her. Took my sewing kit. Christy came home early and we all went to a restaurant for dinner. I was not hungry, so I just had a glass of water. We went back to their house and watched a movie and I fixed Gracee's things. Came home and ate a low cal tv dinner. Did twent minutes on the elliptical as well. Then did 15 minutes exercising on the Inversion table.

All inall, a pretty good day.

Have a good rest of today, and enjoy tomorrow as well. God Bless my friends.

Fiona sorry to hear about your heat & related problems! Wish some of that heat would flow this way.

Brenda, I have just started drinking apple vinegar water every day. I have heard that vinegar is supposed to be good for you so we'll see what happens. I have also upped my tofu to 100 gms vs the 20 gms I used to eat. I am trying to cut back down on the carbs.

Good Morning,

I'll try this again. I was happily writing a message and all of a sudden the Zulillie page appeared trying to sell me children's clothing. I hate it when my laptop gets a mind of it's own.

I was trying to talk about little space heaters. I have one that I use all the time that cost $20 about three years ago when my other one finally died. I never turn on the baseboard heat as it takes too long to heat up a room and costs too much. My light bill runs $25 a month. The tiny heater supplies instant heat and can be taken from room to room if needed. We also have built in air conditioning but I don't use that either. If it gets too hot, I just prop my door open and get the cold air from the hallway. Each floor has an air conditioner at the end of hall and I am about thirty steps away.

We are having wind and rain storms here so I am staying in for the duration. Elinor called last night to see if I plan to go out in the next few days because she has a prescription for new eye drops at Walmart. We will go when the rain lets up because she doesn't want to go out in it either. She is using up what she has, it just doesn't work as well. She is getting excited about moving in here so I hope she starts packing. I told her that her apartment has a corner wall outside her door so she can have her little table outside the door plus I have arranged pedicures for her by one of the caregivers and can probably find someone to do housekeeping that she can't do. Any prescriptions she has to pay for are taken off her rent. I don't know how soon she will be able to move in, depends on how long it takes to clean the apartment and install new carpeting.

Well, there must be something wrong with my scale because it is weighing me three pounds too much. Do you think it would help to install new batteries? emoticon I am trying to eat more fresh fruits and veggies, eat no sweets except one chocolate covered cherry everyday and frozen yogurt for dessert. Maybe I need to do more hall and stair walking.

We got a new treadmill down in the computer room but it is still in the box. Don't know who is going to put it together. We don't like it because it just has two short hand grips instead of bars along the sides. Ruth took it upon herself to go buy it with our treasury funds. She is the treasurer. We think it is not safe for us seniors because of no side bars. She got it at Walmart for just under $400. Oh well.................

Today I will up my protein and less carbs and see what happens. I started drinking a cup of hot water with a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar and a tablespoon of honey. Supposedly lose ten pounds in a month. It doesn't taste all that great but it isn't harmful.

Have a great day everyone.

SAMMI,
I know what you mean. As a rule, I'm really all about the healthier choices even though it may not lower my scale readings. But that once a week stretch, well, it so easily takes a toll. Last night was just a comfort food type of evening home alone. I even made some air popcorn at 11:20pm!

I have a box of Sees Chocolate candies from Valentines Day which I haven't yet opened. I know that I'll have trouble rationing myself at this stage so I'm patiently waiting until I can afford the treats. I hope it doesn't take forever.

Dale, it is difficult to eat healthy when the weather is cold and you aren't able to exercise on a regular basis. One of the things I did was get rid of some of my least healthy habits and replace them with healthier alternatives. When I do get the munchies on a cold, stay indoor type day I have a hand full of mixed nuts, yogurt, low fat string cheese, crunchmaster crackers
(my fav is the rosemary and olive oil) or peanut butter and jelly on one of those cute whole wheat round pieces of bread by Arnold.

Even one of my favorite bar type lounges has a nice veggie salad they will make for me. When I want a bean burrito or a cheese enchilada or a piece or two of pizza, I make sure it's not more then once a week. When it becomes more of a habit to eat healthy it is much easier.

Enjoy the journey on the way to your goal. Sammi

161.5 up (I'll have to back on down once again.)

FIONA,
So sorry you are melting. Ha! I hate the dead of summer. I can't breathe in the hot humid air we get. May it be short lived soon.

SAMMI,
I can "get it" about eating healthily, but I don't seem to sustain it. In and out, in and out. Last night was an "out". Sigh. Today is a new day.

MICHELE,
The time change WAS always April. Just not right now. March 10th is a gift from whomever makes these determinations.

BONNIE,
I don't tend to get up early either. It's from staying up at night with the TV going. I can't unwind too easily. But when I can wake up early, I DO like the mornings.

On another note: Whereas I did great a week ago with 260 minutes of walking, this week I wound up with ZIP, nada, nunca. When I finally got a good weathered, open day (Thursday) I just didn't seem to make it out the door. That's what happens when I'm out of the walking loop. Inside just one week I can lose my mojo. Therefore we HAVE to push ourselves to get started and keep pushing until the adrenalin kicks in.

Nathaniel (aka Nate or Nater) stopped by with his lady friend late last night after his movie let out to drop off some cat food and litter for me. We were all bleary eyed when he left at 12:50a.m. I passed out, getting to sleep around 1:30 and then a call about NicA (nicotine anonymous) woke me up at 8 this morning. Erg! I gave Nate the holiday (Purim) cookies I bought the night before because I was tearing into the pack at a rapid pace.

This afternoon I go see QUARTET at the movies with Mom and Scott. It's otherwise an uneventful weekend. Hugs to everyone. Have a great Saturday.

Hi Everyone.
I usually open a separate window and answer separately, but we are waiting to babysit, so I will wing it.
The best news is from Dale(?, this is also a memory test since I can't go back and mark the writer) that daylight savings is early.
Was it Bonnie that suggested to Mich a heater? Why didn't I think of that? When we get to the kind of temperature you are talking about, we go camp at our kids house. I hate, hate hate the cold.
Dale, My people who passed away are always with me.

OK, I am too grumpy this morning, slap me down and everyone have a good day....

Fiona,

So sorry to hear about the high heat and no rain. Our midwest states had a similar problem a year ago. Prayers for rain coming your way.

Went to yoga yesterday -- felt so good. We're having temps about 10 degrees higher then normal for this time of year -- will only last a few days as the next weather front arrives on Sunday.

Michele, you are so good at rolling with the flow. I tend to get a bit unhinged when my routine is interrupted for more then a day. Even more so if it's unexpected.

Have a wonderful day Sparklers -- remember it's not dieting, it's learning to eat healthy. If you learn to eat healthy you can achieve your goal and maintain it. Blessings, Sammi

Hi everyone. Another very hot one here today and no rain. I am so over this hot weather and everything is dieing.
The grass is brown and now just crunches when you walk on it.
Farmers are having to sell their stock so its going to the works as no-one has feed to feed them either.
Its too hot to get out and exercise or garden so I am trying to do thing first thing in the mornings.
At least I drink a lot of water and don't feel like eating

Bonnie, You & I are unalike---I always get up early in the morning, like Renay, at around am. Late is 5:30 a.m I ususally don't like to schedule appts in the afternoon as that is when I start to get tired.

Dale, thank you for the info about daylights savings. I had no idea it was in march! I always thought it was in april.

The cement for our parking space has been layed this a.m. It is hard to leave my house. I will probably have to stay home all day until it dries tomorrow

Have a nice weekend, all!
